Executing SQL-query based on user input in text-box on APEX page

Hi,
I'm new to developing in APEX, and I encountered a problem...
Is it even possible to make such thing: use text area for input of some SQL-query and then execute it on my schema and show results in report item? And if the answer is yes, can somebody provide me tips on how to do that?
Thanks in advance.

  • Query Based On User Input

    Hello,
    Is there a way that I can get Discoverer to run different queries based on user input? In other words, I have two parameters "A" and "B". If the user enters a value for "A", execute QUERY1. If the user enters a value for "B", execute QUERY2. If both parameters are left blank, execute QUERY3. If the user enters values for "A" and "B", execute QUERY4.
    I'm fairly new to Discoverer so any help that I can receive on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You

  • How to execute PL/SQL query based on given input parameter

    Hi all,
    I have a pl/sql code which is in Region source. It extracts data from database. I want to execute the code based on input I give. I have to give date as a input parameter.
    e.g.
    If I give date1 as a parameter, then following code should executed
    select col1, col2,..... from Table where date1 between '01-jan-2010' and '31-jan-2010'
    If I give date2 as a parameter, then following code should executed
    select col1, col2,..... from Table where date2 between '01-jan-2010' and '31-jan-2010'
    Your help is very much appreciated.

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO EXECUTE A QUERY BASED ON USER

    Hi,
    I need to restrict a set of queries to a user. Is it possible.
    Thanks
    Mini

    This is done by standard parametrization using query groups and user authorizations.

  • Hide user input in text box

    Is there a way to hide user input in an applescript text box?  I'm using the 'display dialog' command to get the user to type in a password and i would like to display it on screen as "*******" or something.

    Try display dialog "Password:" default answer "" with hidden answer

  • Include Button that executes PL/SQL procedure to SQL query based region

    I would like to add two columns to a SQL query region.
    These columns would not be sourced from the query, but rather would be used to execute a PL/SQL procedure.
    For example, I would like to have a manager approve or deny adding an additional employee to the department.
    There would be one button for APPROVE. And, one button for DENY.
    The PL/SQL procedure would execute to perform the required DML based upon the selected action (either APPROVE or DENY).
    A sample output would look like this:
    <APPROVE>, <DENY>, John Doe, Accountant
    <APPROVE>, <DENY>, Jane Doe, Accountant
    Is there any way to add a button to a SQL Query based report region where that button executes a stored proc? If so, what is the basic process for doing this?
    Thanks!

  • How Can I Execute Sql Query in Managed bean?

    Hi,
    I want to execute sql query in managedbean and get the query result. How can I do?
    Best wishes!

    You can do this by having current Database connection your application is using like this
    public static synchronized DBTransaction getDBTransaction(){
    FacesContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ValueBinding vb = ctx.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{data}");
    BindingContext bc = (BindingContext)vb.getValue(ctx.getCurrentInstance());
    DataControl dc = bc.findDataControl("AppModuleDataControl");
    ApplicationModuleImpl am = ((ApplicationModuleImpl)(ApplicationModule)dc.getDataProvider());
    return am.getDBTransaction();
    and then user DBTransaction object to create Statement and PreparedStatement you can find those in java doc.

  • SQL Query based BI Pub report - Taking too long to produce the output

    Hi All,
    I was trying to produce a BI Publisher based report through enterprise edition of BI Publisher 10.1.3.4
    Its a sql query based report and it has around 20 columns and it has around 1 lakh records.
    The query actually takes only 2 seconds to execute in the database but when we execute from BI Publisher it takes a long time and also it times out most of the time
    Is there something I am missing in the configuration options ?
    Thanks
    Shasi

    I am facing the same problem as well. I am using the Publisher Web service API to run a report with 1 Million records. This report is configured to use OBIEE. It takes a lot of time to generate the report ( around 30 Mins) and even though OBIEE generates the data, my web service client either timesout. Even after increasing the timeout, a 500 internal server error is thrown . Does anyone know of a solution to this.
    Thanks

  • Redirect to different pages based on user input value

    Hello,
    Anyone please help.
    I am trying to redirect to different pages based on user inputs. I have a form in which I have one text item and a submit button. For example consider text item to be empno; So once the user enters a empno and hits submit button; I need to redirect to different pages based on this job.
    For Ex: if user inputs empno whose job is 'ANALYST' then redirect to page 1
    if user inputs empno whose job is 'MANAGER' then redirect to page 10
    For this scenario. i wrote a pl/sql process for the submit button; but no luck -- its not at all redirecting instead its in the same page. Below is the process.
    declare
    v_job varchar2(20);
    begin
    select job into v_job from emp where empno = :P9_EMPNO_R;
    if v_job = 'ANALYST' then
    OWA_UTIL.REDIRECT_URL('f?p=&APP_ID.:1:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.::', TRUE);
    end if;
    if v_job = 'MANAGER' then
    OWA_UTIL.REDIRECT_URL('f?p=&APP_ID.:10:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.::', TRUE);
    end if;
    end;Please help. I am using Oracle APEX version 4.2 and database Oracle 11g R2

    Thanks,
    OrtonI have a similar scenario in my application and this is how I handle it.
    1. Create a page item on the page, say Px_PAGE_NUM
    2. Create a "On Submit - After Computations and Validations" page process to set the above page item. In your case, you can use the same logic that you have already in place (except the call to OWA_UTIL.REDIRECT_URL) :
    declare
    v_job varchar2(20);
    begin
    select job into v_job from emp where empno = :P9_EMPNO_R;
    if v_job = 'ANALYST' then
       :Px_PAGE_NUM := '1';
    end if;
    if v_job = 'MANAGER' then
       :Px_PAGE_NUM := '10';
    end if;
    end;3. Create a "On Submit: After processing" branch. Specify the "Target Type" as "Page in the application" and "Page Number" as &Px_PAGE_NUM. (with the dot).
    I hope the above helps.
    BTW, the following thread in the forum related to OWA_UTIL.REDIRECT_URL might help:
    issue OWA_UTIL.REDIRECT_URL with APEX 4.1.1

  • Error in executing SQL query

    Hi All,
    I am working with labview application.
    The database being used is Access.
    The tables i have to use contains the special symbol -   (not underscore.)
    Let the table name be user-data
    When i am executing the query select * from user-data its showing
    error message syntax error in from clause.
    I tried just typing the query in access also and got the same error.
    I believe its because of the usage of the special character other than underscore in table name
    Many applications using the same database is running in VB already.So there is no way for me to rename the table.
    I know i am asking an invalid question.But still....
    Is there any way for me to use the same table name and execute sql query.
    Thanks in advance

    There should be. Try putting the table name in quotes - some DBMS use single quotes, some use double quotes. For example say the table name has a space in it. Try something like:
    select * from 'a funny table';
    or
    select * from "a funny table";   (Actually, I think I'd try this one first...)
    Failing this, you have two choices: change the name of the table, or dump Access and go with a real DBMS - which you will probibly want to do anyway because it will only be a matter of time before you start hitting a performance wall. Access is particularly bad if you have more than one process making a connection to it at a time. Interms of alternatives, there are a couple really good open-source products out there, as well as no-cost versions of Oracle and SQL-Server.

  • Displaying alert message based on user input on input param screen

    Hi,
    Based on user input I wish to display an alert popup on my report. I
    have provided the user 2 dropdowns called sortasc and sortdesc with all
    the column names used in the report to simulate dynamic sorting.This is
    because we do not have dynamic sorting in CR XI R2. When the user
    selects same column name in both sortasc and sortdesc then the sort
    type which has priority in the record sort expert is executed. This is fine but we want an alert
    or message popup displayed so as to prevent user from selecting same
    column names.
    I tried adding an alert with the following code:
    if {?sortasc} = {?sortdesc} then true else false
    So far I have not been prompted with any alert message box.
    Let me know if there is any other option.

    Hi Shalu,
    I have created a alert and it is working fine, please follow the steps
    Create a new Alert using two static parameters and give the condition for message like :
    if {?Myworld} = {?Myworld1} Then
    'You have entered a correct word'
    else
    'This is not a correct word'
    Then create a condition like :
    {?Myworld} = {?Myworld1} or {?Myworld} <> {?Myworld1}
    Also check the check box Enabled and save the alert.  Now it will popup if the myworld is equal to myworld1 or myworld is not equal to myworld1.
    Hope this will help you
    Thanks,

  • How to configure the schema name dynamically based on user input.

    configure the schema name dynamically based on user input.
    For ex:
    We have two schemas:
    Schema1  - base schema having 15 tables.
    Schema2 -  tables which is specific to modules. Having only 10 tables which is also available in Schema1
    Login to application using Schema 1
    Access a particlular module and select the country. Here country selection is identified.
    Based on the country selection, we need to connect the schema respectively.
    If the user selects France --> It should connect Schema1
    If the user selects Germeny --> It should connect schema2.
    Used: Eclipselink

    You may want to have a different persistence unit for each country, then you just need to switch persistence units, and can put the schema in your orm.xml file.
    You may also want to investigate EclipseLink multi-tenant support,
    http://www.eclipse.org/eclipselink/documentation/2.5/jpa/extensions/a_multitenant.htm
    You can the schema in a persistence unit in code using a SessionCustomizer and the tableQualifier.

    how to add column dynamically based on from_date to to_date?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Chris Jerome.

    You cannot add columns dynamically. But you can define a maximum number of numbers and then hide unused columns in your form useing SET_ITEM_PROPERTY(..,VISIBLE, PROPERTY_FALSE);

  • Command the execute sql query and does not clean up data in Table

    Hi Team
    I have an SP, which writes source and target data to Temp Tables and runs except query to get mismatch details
    I am using Exec command to execute source query that writes data to Temp Table, once I execute query using Exec, data is written and immediately #temp table is cleaned, now I cannot use #temp table for comparition.
    Is there any way to execute sql query in SP without using EXEC and will hold the data in temp table.

    You need to create temp table before EXEC statement and rewrite your dynamic query also as below
    declare @source_Sql nvarchar(1000)
    ,@target_Sql nvarchar(1000)
    create table #TempTable1 (name nvarchar(10))
    create table #TempTable2 (name nvarchar(10))
    set @source_Sql = 'INSERT INTO #TempTable1 SELECT [Name] from Employee'
    set @target_Sql = 'INSERT INTO #TempTable2 SELECT [Name] from Employee2'
    EXEC (@source_Sql)
    EXEC (@target_Sql)
    select * from #TempTable1
     Except
    select * from #TempTable2
