Exercise PP 20 of Global Bike

Exercise PP 20 reports "A master record for D010/Labor exists only in 2008.  (E KL 002)
I am working with Chico Client 310 and 315 of Global Bike and get no labor costs from the Production Planning Exercises.  This Exercise goes to my classes next Tuesday, April 7.  Assistance would be appreciated (including how the fix is made).  Thanks much!

Dave,
Thanks for the post.  More of our course authors monitor the private forums over in CW for curriculum related questions so I've reposted your question there.  That'll be the quickest way for you to get the answer.  The link is below.

  • Global Bike configuration (?) problem in dataset

My class this semester is working through some of the Global Bike case studies.  We recently completed the initial case study where a new customer is created, an inquiry, quotation, sales order, etc. through to payment.
Dataset 56 appears to have what I am guessing is a configuration problem that I have not yet been able to find the source of.
In short, orders against plant 56A2 do not result in stock status changes until the post goods issue process.
This first manifests itself after creating a sales order.  When one reviews the stock overview for plant 56A2 the stock overview list shows a quantity of 0 for sales orders of the items.  I have both reviewed the student's work and keyed in 2 sets of the sequence myself and get this same result.  In reviewing the sales order itself against a known good sales orders, all the fields are populated the same (except with changing references to sales organizations, plants, etc. based on the dataset number).
If one selects a line item on the sales order itself and selects Display Availability, there is a correct indication of the number of units in storage location 30--so unlike the above, everying on this screen everything appears to be correct.  It does show the correct plant.
When one initates the delivery process, no items are shown in scheduled for delivery for the plant.
When one picks the merchandise (against sloc 30 and the correct plant), there is no change in the stock overview.
Only once one has posted goods issue is there a change in the stock overview:  a scheduled for delivery quantity is shown along with a deduction in unrestricted use stock.
I'm inclined to think that for some reason dataset 56 is configured slightly differently in this regard than the other datasets.  Can anyone point me to the specific source of the problem or how to correct it?
Edited to add:  A student question motivated my initial investigation, and all of the above is based on my walking through the sequence 'starting over.'  I just went back to the student's work to see what might be going on there.  The same inventory status issues as above are there, but the student cannot begin the delivery process.  When attempting to do so one is told that the order cannot be delivered.  The long text in the display log indicates "Copying is not poss. because an entry is missing in Table TVCPL:AF"

For what its worth, here is a log of little things to watch out for that I posted on my course discussion board.  The students reported that this list helped them out a lot and whenever they seemed to get stuck, this list would get them back on track.  The list refers to the PP section.
refers to your ID number. So, if your id is 10 and you are asked for ##A1, enter 10A1.
The lab does not have 2008, 2009, and 2010 costs loaded. You can ignore all errors regarding costs.
Be extremely careful entering data. A wrong data point can impact the entire lab as everything is connected.
There is no reset button for the lab so if you make a typo you will need to navigate back through the lab to correct it. While this isn't lab friendly it is reflective of real world business which would require multiple authorizations.
Specific page comments are listed below:
    Page 2
The forecast data should be entered over a 4 year time span in the TOTAL CONSUMPTION area. Be very careful not to put this in the unplanned consumption area. If it is Jan 10, start entering data in December 09 and go all the way back to December 05.
    Page 4
Slight typo #A1 should be ##A1
When asked for a industry sector, just choose any one but remember it as you will need it later in the lab.
    Page 5
The consumption mode selected is backwards only. Thus, if prompted make FWD consumption = 0.
    Page 8
The table that SAP provides is wide and you need to scroll right / left to show it all.
    Page 9
To create a finished product routing, the lab states to to navigate to u201Cu2026Master Data>Routing>Standard Routingu2026u201D however the actual path is u201Cu2026Master Data>Routing>Routing>Standard Routingu2026u201D
On this page, you need to enter the material number and the plant number and then hit the hat instead of the green check. You will then see the CompAlloc button.
To allocate SF-0010-## (et al) select teh whole row before selecting new assignment.
    Page 11
when it is asking you to enter the data for forecasting it does so in a generic way. When it says enter the period interval from historic data from 1/2003 to current year - one period, you really want to enter the 4 year time interval you used in page 2. So, if it is Jan 2010, you would enter data from December 05 - December 09 as historical data.
It also asks how far to go forward as current period + one year. Again, if its Jan 2010, you would go forward to Feb 2011.
When you are working with your production order (page 21 and beyond) be sure to note how much you will be producing.

  • Teaching with this book

I'd like to learn if others are out there that are teaching with this book this semester and how you plan to use it.  I'd like to 'compare notes' and perhaps steal some good ideas.
I'm teaching with this book this semester.  The class is mainly undergraduate students that would have gone through a class where I used the other Magal and Word book Essentials of Business Processes and Information Systems.  In that class the students would have also used ERPSim.  There are also a few graduate students in the class and they would have a similar background in regards to SAP ERP.
I'm not using the Global Bike exercises as, at least my thinking is, the students have seen those types of transactions already.  Instead I've adapted the BPI-1 and BPI-2 materials so that the students will be doing configuration exercises.  (I could see in the future having the students do Global Bike configuration in this class.)
In light of the students' background I plan to fly through chapter 1 and part of chapter 2 before we 'dig in' to the new content.  Finding the right level on which to cover things is a challenge that I see.  (I try to spend class time amplifying or expanding on book content and so there is no shortage of material that could go there.  I hope to draw on background related to TERP-10 instruction as a guide here.)
I'd love to learn what others are doing, how you're proceeding through the material, what you're doing for labs, etc.

    Jim,
Most people will use some type of SAP hands-on exercises with the text.  You have two options.  One is the set of (very good) exercises available from the UA protal.  These were developed by Stefan Weidner (and a team of people whose names I don't have).  The other is the set of exercises available from Wiley that we (authors) developed.  Either will work well with the text.  Stefan and I (and Jeff) developed the data for the new GBI 2.0 (with lots of help from our interns), so, while two sets have a few pedagogical differences (screenshots, questions, etc.), they essentially follow the same steps.   One other key difference is that once the Wiley exercises are available on WileyPlUS for the first edition (the current one is a preliminary edition), there will be mechanisms for automatic assignment submission, and, in some cases, automatic grading of student work.
Whereas most faculty will choose to use one or the other sets of exercises, a few (like Tony) will use their own due to the unique nature of their class.  For example, Tony's exercises are focused on configuration. The UA and Wiley exercises are focused on process execution.
With regard to the demos.  They are intended to be a substitute for demonstrating concepts and techniques with a live system.  They are interactive pdfs which allow faculty to explain things without using a live system.  The advantages are:  you don't have to depend on a live system being available, and (2) students can replay the demo on their own - this option is not available with live demos.  The disadvantage is that you cannot show something that is not in the recorded demo.
The Wiley exercises and demos are available from your Wiley rep for the preliminary version of the text.  In the first edition (expected March 2011) they will be available from WileyPLUS.  I have asked our editor to ensure that someone from Wiley is in touch with you to gain access to these materials.
Thanks for using the book.  We welcome feedback from teachers and students.

  • Replacements for FS and Marshall Muffler cases

My students have previously taken an ERP course that included the Mueili Simulation Game. In the next course, I had them do the Fitter Snaker configuration exercises followed by the Marshal Muffler case. Now, it seems that the Fitter Snack configuration series of exercies will no longer be available, and is being replaced by the Global BIke case -- yet, I cannot find any material for the Global Bike case -- when is it to be avaiable?
Also, the Marshall Muffler case does not seem to be available either -- I cannot find a reference to it in the UA site. If it is no longer available, what is a good replacement for it? I have not yet looked at the Kite case to see if it is a good candidate to replace Fitter Snacker or Marshall Muffler.
What I would like is a series of exercises that takes students through some configuraiton, and then forecasting, production, purchasing, selling (like the Fitter Snaker configuration). After that, I would like them to do another case without detaied instructions to do some configuraiton, produciton, purchasing, sellling (like Marshall Muffler).
The BPI series of exercises might do some of the above.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

The Marshall Muffler case is still available along with all of the otherFitter Snacker configuration materials.  Navigate to:
    https://cw.sdn.sap.com/community/uac/bpm
Then scroll down to Fitter Snacker configuration and download that material.
I will be providing a modified module 12 document for the community network shortly.  There are a couple of fixes needed for the ECC 6.0 version that I didn't catch the first time I revised the documents.

  • Creating Sales Order- Item Category TAN is not defined.

    Hello all,
I am working on Creating sales order for Global Bike Inc case. But when I enter the material and quantity number and click check mark it says "Item category TAN is not defined". Can some body help me how can we define TAN or why it is giving me that error.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sujan

    Hi SujanB,
As your question is already answered. An indicator that defines the characteristics of a document item.
For example, the item category controls the type and scope of:
    Pricing
    Billing
    Delivery
    Inventory posting
    Transfer of requirements
    Providing further deatils ;--
    01. How item category is determined :--
Depending on the item category group that you apply & the sales doc type you are processing the system automatically proposes an item category in the document.

2.item category group (source: material master)
3.item category of the higher-level item (source: user defined)
4.item category usage (The usage is defined by SAP and is hard coded in the programs)

  • Health Care SAP Business model

    Hi,
    Greetings.
As a part of our Health Informatics degree and MBA/MS specialization in Healthcare, we at Georgia State University are exploring options to create a classroom SAP Business model for the Health Care industry (similar to Global Bike and/or ERPsim - which is primarily water bottles and Muesli). Has anyone in this forum tried something on those lines ?
The model that we intend to design should bring out the nuances of the Healthcare industry specifics.
Any experience shared will be highly appreciated.

    Sumantra,
Hi! What your thinking of is very interesting! My first thought is that it would be worth considering an extention off of Global Bike which is designed by professors for professors and their students... Creating this curricula and data sets along with their scenarios is a big undertaking... Building an offshoot from a current, major program might makes sense vs. starting something from scratch (that's your call though!)...
Suggestion...keep it simple... Try to identify one area that works for you...
From SAP Healthcare here are some examples - http://www.sap.com/industries/healthcare/solutions-overview.epx
"Quickly access disparate data u2013 anytime, anywhere
Make better decisions with relevant and trustworthy data
Collaborate easily with patients and other care providers
    Mobilize your healthcare professionals
Make your workflows more integrated and efficient
    Reduce process cycle time"
Perhaps you think of a bicycle race with hundreds (or a thousand plus) racers. You provide a First Aid station or testing which is connected to a local hospital, an ambulance, the police to help with their safety. You have the idea... you can assess this scenario or another...
    Good luck!
    Best regards,
    Richard

  • I am stuck on this account determination in SAP.

  • Trying to connect our exercise bike to our wireless network.  It sees the network, but once pass phrase is put in, it won't connect.  Any suggestions?  We have an Airport Extreme.

I am trying to connect our exercise bike to our wireless network.  It sees the network, but once pass phrase is put in, it won't connect.  Their tech support said the problem is with the router and we may need to open ports 80, 443 and 4348.  We have an AirPort Extreme and I scanned for open ports and found 80 already open but the others are not.  Tried using Port Mapping, putting the port number 443 in both the Public UDP and TCP fields and the Private UDP and TCP fields also.  The Private IP address defaulted to 10.0.1.201 which is right outside of the DHCP range.  Will this be the IP of the bike or should I change it to something else?  Are the values I put in the fields totally wrong?  Bike is still not connecting.  Thanks for any help!

    Here's an update:
Now the light is not blinking. It's a solid, consistant green. I don't know if it helps to narrow it down or anything, but I just figured I'd mention it.

Maybe you should update your iOS and find out?

  • Global data getting reset when running under IIS?

We have a scenario using IIS with an ASP.NET web service written in VB.NET. When a call to the web service is made, the web service calls a native dll (written in C, compiled using VS2010) using platform invoke, which in turn calls into our product API:
    VB.NET web service -> native library (p/invoke) -> native API ....
Web service requests are successfully completed and the system runs without problem for hours. A trace of the native API shows it is being called by multiple processes and multiple threads within those processes.
The main native API dll contains a static global variable used to detect whether it is the first time it has been called and run initialization logic if it is. This dll is itself linked to a second dll that contains a global variable used to detect if it is
the first time it has been called.
After some hours the trace shows that the native API is invoked by an existing process but that the initialization logic is being exercised again, even though the global variable was set to indicate not first time and is never reset.  One theory was that
the first process has ended and a new process has started almost instantaneously using the same process ID. However this is not the case as existing thread IDs from the same process are seen to write to the trace again after the first time logic has executed
for the second time, indicating the process has not restarted. The problem occurs regularly.
It is as though the process's global data has been initialized again and malloc'ed memory freed while the processing is still running. Is there any way this is possible when running under IIS?
There is an internal thread which waits on a blocking read of a named pipe (via ReadFile), and when the problem occurs, the ReadFile call ends with ERROR_NO_ACCESS, which appears to indicate the malloc'ed buffer is no longer valid, again implying something
has happened to the memory allocated to the process.

  • RE: Globals/PVSOs

Both David Bell and Pierre Gelli have outlined some interesting
techniques to get handles to, what I like to term, Partition Visible
Shared Objects (i.e., PVSOs). These objects are not true service objects
since they can not be referenced directly by name. However, both
techniques offer a mechanism to provide local (within a partition)
shared object references for all partitions.
The techniques described by David and Pierre are very similar to work
that we have done recently and I would like to comment and expand upon
    their ideas. First, one refinement...
Code snippet from Pierre Gelli's agent approach:
Then, for any instance of a class that needs a global
variable, only two lines of code are needed, at
initialization time, to get a reference to the local
cache of the partition, then a global variable is
accessed as if part of a local objectThe above technique should be refined such that a class instance should
resolve this "local shared reference" each time it is needed since the
class instance may "live" in many different partitions during its
lifetime. However, the technique will work as described so long as the
class instance is anchored and never cloned or copied to other
    partitions.
To expand upon the earlier techniques, we created a strategy where each
class defines a virtual attribute which does the agent look-up using
code similar to the following. The virtual attribute was defined so that
the developer did not need to copy the following code, but could instead
reference to "self.PVSOVirtualAttribute" and get the required reference.
    Sample code:
    theAgent : SystemAgent;
    thePVSO : PVSOClass;
    //Get partition agent
    partAgent : ActivePartitionAgent;
    partAgent = ActivePartitionAgent(task.Part.ActPartAgent);
//Get named agent and cast managed object reference to appropriate class
    theAgent = partAgent.FindSubAgent(name = 'agentName');
    thePVSO = (PVSOClass)(theAgent.ManagedObject);
This sample code can be reduced to a single line as follows:
    thePVSO : PVSOClass =
    (PVSOClass)((systemAgent)(task.Part.ActPartAgent).FindSubAgent (name =
    'agentName').ManagedObject);
The above technique has been tested with the beta 2 release of Forte 3
(i.e., 3.0.B.0) and works when running from development, when
distributed and when deployed. One word of caution is to avoid the
situation where multiple PVSOClass instances might be instantiated when
running from development. This situation will raise an exception when
the second PVSOClass instance tries to attach its agent into the agent
    hierarchy with a duplicate name.
Now, to expand upon the above techniques, consider the following:
    1) Create an abstract super-class which defines the signature (i.e.,
interface for Java and Forte 3 buffs) for the PVSO in your Base Project
    2) Define a PVSO virtual attribute on your base class(s) in your Base
    Project
    3) Change to above sample agent code to cast the agent's managed object
    to your abstract super-class
    4) Now every object which inherits from your base class(s) can get an
"abstract class" reference to a partition visible shared object at run
time (SO LONG AS THE PVSO SUBCLASS OBJECT IS ALREADY INSTANTIATED).
The reason that the PVSO subclass object must already be instantiated is
because of supplier project reference issues. That is, the Base Class
can not instantiate the PVSO subclass since the Base Class does not know
about the PVSO subclass (i.e., the project with the PVSO subclass does
not and can not supply the base project). Therefore, one of the
following techniques will need to be used to ensure that the PVSO
subclass object is in fact instantiated in every partition.
    Client Partition:
    1) Create the PVSO subclass on the client from your application start
    class
    2) Define a UVSO in the client partition based upon the "PVSO subclass"
    class
    Server Partitions:
    1) Define a UVSO in every server partition... okay, this is not very
    practical
    2) Define a Base Manager class in a project that has the "PVSO subclass"
project as a supplier and have the Base Manager class instantiate a PVSO
subclass object during initialization (if one does not already exist).
Then ensure that each server partition has at least one SO which
ultimately inherits from the Base Manager class
So, now our strategy allows any object which inherits from our base
class(s) to access a partition visible shared object simply via
"self.PVSOVirtualAttribute". However, this it just the tip of the
iceberg, because gaining access to this reference can also resolve some
    supplier project reference issues.
As an example, lets define SecPVSO and CachePVSO abstract super-classes
(class signatures only) in the base project and, using the agent
technique above, supply references to these abstract classes via virtual
attributes in the base class. Then, define two projects called the
SecPVSOProject and CachePVSOProject which implement SecPVSO and
CachePVSO subclasses respectively and have the Base Project as a
    supplier.
Now, all classes in the SecPVSOProject which inherit from the base
class(s) can reference and use the CachePVSO class via the base class's
virtual CachePVSO attribute. Additionally, all classes in the
CachePVSOProject can reference and use the SecPVSO class via the base
class's virtual SecPVSO attribute. Therefore, when applied correctly,
the strategy described above makes it possible for multiple projects to
cross reference and use each other's services. Stated differently, this
strategy conceptually allows project to circularly reference each other.
Lastly, some additional things to consider:
    1) In Forte 3, the abstract classes in the base project can be converted
    to interfaces
    2) Also in Forte 3, the instantiation of the PVSO subclass objects can
be handled much cleaner directly in the base class(s) using dynamic
loading and library distributions. We're currently using this approach
and it works in development, distributed and deployed tests.
    3) The Builder design pattern could be applied to provide a single PVSO
reference/interface which encapsulates calls to all the partition
visible services like security, caching, timing, logging, etc.... This
provides a number of benefits like delayed instantiation, etc. while
still allowing the projects that implement the various security, caching
etc. services can reference and use each other freely.
    4) Known limitation: The various method signatures for the PVSO
superclass/interface(s) in the base project can not have parameter types
which are defined in projects it supplies (e.g., no SecTicket, etc.
parameters allowed). Therefore, these parameters must be defined as type
"object" (or something similar) in the base project superclass/interface
and cast to their real type when they are referenced in the overridden
    methods in the PVSO subclass(s).
    5) I am currently investigating a variation of the above strategy, which
I term LVSO (interpretation of this acronym is left as an exercise for
the reader), to allow R3 Applets to communicate with each other and to
share "local" object references without ever leaving the launcher
partition. If you are interested in the outcome of this investigation,
    please let me know.

  • Rebooting Global Container

Is there a way to reboot the global container and all non-globals with one command?

Rebooting the global zone will force all local (aka non-global) zones to reboot.
The clean ways is to look through the zonelisting on the global zone and halt each local zone prior to rebooting the global. This gives you a clean shutdown.
Here's a zone table from one of my machines I'm working on:
    essgzdu31z0|global$ sudo zoneadm list -cv
ID NAME STATUS PATH BRAND IP
0 global running / native shared
    5 essapdu31z1 running /zones/apps_zones/essapdu31z1 native shared
    12 essapdu31z4 running /zones/apps_zones/essapdu31z4 native shared
    17 essapdu31z3 running /zones/apps_zones/essapdu31z3 native shared
    - essapdu31z2 installed /zones/apps_zones/essapdu31z2 native shared
    essgzdu31z0|global$
This command prints the running zones on the machines:
    essgzdu31z0|global$ sudo zoneadm list -cv | grep running | grep -v "global " | awk '{ print $2 }' <
    essapdu31z1
    essapdu31z4
    essapdu31z3
    essgzdu31z0|global$
You could use this as a front end to zoneadm -z "zone name" halt
Then it's safe to reboot the GZ.
The rest I leave as an exercise to the reader :-)

  • Global variable readonly

I chose to try/use a global variable to resolve a complex situation I was having.  I followed the "Creating Global Variables" from LabVIEW help and everything seemed to work fine.  The global stopped working, however, when I checked my files into CM and the xxxGlobal.vi (created by the global variable process) was readonly.  I didn't see a runtime error, but the global always returned the default.  Then, when I changed the file's attributes (enchecked readonly), I could exercise the other functionality.
Is this a known issue - do I have to make this global.vi read/write for all users, or is there another solution?

I don't think my conclusion (above) is correct.  I had a case statement error that made it appear that the readonly was the issue, when it was not.  I'm not sure what the deal is now.  Here is what I did.
I placed a global variable(gv) in the block diagram of one VI, then double clicked on the gv and got a blank vi.  I dropped a text control onto the front panel and named it ReportFormat.  I then did a "save as" to save the new (global) VI.  I then added some logic (where I originally dropped the gv) to populate the global variable with the user's selection from a drop down (two possible choices) .  I then went to another VI and in its block diagram I did a "Select VI", found/selected this global.vi I just created.  Since I only have one item on the front panel (in the global.vi), I received an association to ReportFormat.  I did a  "Change to Read" so I can use the string output to drive a case statement.  The default case is always selected, though.

  • Global Variable Update for URL Link

    Hello
I cant seem to find the article anymore and not sure if I was imagining this.
Within OBIEE when editing a dashboard we can add dashboard objects including a link
For this link, we can have any web URL we want to redirect to another web page.
For this URL, is there anyway to declare a static variable for this so we can go to one central location to update the URL?
Recently I had to go into each dashboard and update the URL manually one by one. Rather avoid this exercise if I can just make one global variable change
    Any ideas?

So I finally found what I was looking for and it was right in front of my nose
In the catalog manager there is an option for "XML Search and Replace"
To update all the URL's across all my dashboards I just needed to use this function
    http://obiee101.blogspot.ca/2010/08/obiee-catalog-search-and-replace.html

  • Can substitution methods other than the Global be used in a procedure ?

    Hi All,
I am very much new to ODI .Apologies if the question seems silly.
As part of an exercise I am working with ODI variables and substitution methods.
My question is substitution methods like odiRef.getColList,odiRef.getFrom,getTargetColList() used in KM's for Code Generation while executing an interface,
can they be used in a ODI procedure giving the necessary parameters as they require .
Eg : Command on source :
    select
         <%=odiRef.getColList("", "[COL_NAME]", ",\n\t", "", "")%>
    from <%=odiRef.getObjectName( "TABLE_NAME" )%>
    Command on target :
    insert into <%=odiRef.getTable("L", "TABLE_NAME", "D")%>
         <%=odiRef.getColList("", "[CX_COL_NAME]", ",\n\t", "","")%>
    values
         <%=odiRef.getColList("", ":[CX_COL_NAME]", ",\n\t", "","")%>
Ofcourse ,this is what an interface does but my requirement is to pass table name as variables and run this code iteratively to load targets, which again will be passed as variable.
Will this run as a ODI procedure ?I tried and am getting exception errors. The getobjectName being global works fine with the proper table name generated in the code, but the getCollist does not work .Hence wanted to know if this standalone procedure is possible or will this code run only as part of KM over a interface?
    Thanks,

    Hi ,
I had gone through this document, and from other sources also got a same answer that it cant be used. But is there a way it can be done?
Actually we have many number of the small tables with just 10 records to be brought into the warehouse. The idea is to instead of doing it via an interface , why not try with a control table with an just the relevant entries and a procedure as above posted code.
    Some ideas would help.
    Thanks,
