Exfat support in airport extreme

Anyone has figured out how to connect and access EXFAT formatted external HDD to Airport extreme?

Sorry, neither NTFS or ExFAT are "readable" formats by the AirPort. Only HFS+ or FAT16/32.

  • Printer supported by Airport Extreme

What All-In One Printer (Printer, Copier, Fax) works with Airport Extreme. I currently have HP Officejet 5610xi All In One Printer but I could not add it on the Airport Extreme Router. Also, I have both Mac and Windows PCs networked via Airport Extreme. I have tried setting up the PCs by bonjour for Windows. Would I have a problem with this kind of network? I am particurlar with print sharing - ie both my pcs and mac should be able to print via APE.

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link.
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help:
o Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if the printer you are interested in is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

  • Mac OSX server not supported behind Airport Extreme NAT router?!!

For a customer, I recently installed a new XServe, within a local network with an Airport Extreme (n) with FW 7.4.2. Mac OSX Server manages the router (which has a fixed IP from the ISP). Because the Mac OSX Server runs a DNS server (supporting a local domain), OSX Server reconfigured the Airport Extreme, so that it would forward DNS queries to the server. The server's dns server will forward queries for non-local domains to the ISP's dns servers.
All clients get their IP configuration using DHCP from the router. You can't use the DHCP service of the server, as you can't disable DHCP on the router (in NAT mode).
All clients get the router's IP as the dns server.
    HOWEVER:
The Airport Extreme can't connect to the internal DNS server! *It doesn't seem to be able to route dns requests to the internal network* (verified using nslookup). Any dns queries sent to the router will time out.
Come on, Airport Extreme team.. you can't claim the Airport Extreme to be the ideal router in combination with an OSX server, if this simple and very common setup is not supported! How hard can it be to either:
...*Allow us to disable DHCP on the router* (even when in NAT mode), so we can use the OSX server for this (which will dispatch the correct DNS settings)
...*Allow the router to route DNS queries to the local DNS* (OSX) server (which should be working anyway)

    That is true.

  • Does 10.6.8 support new airport extreme?

Does the new airpot extreme work with OSX 10.6.8?

You will need to be running Lion or Mountain Lion on your Mac with AirPort Utilty 6.3.1 installed....or....an iPhone or iPad with AirPort Utility 1.3.1 installed to be able to setup and configure the new AirPort Extreme.
However, once the AirPort Extreme has been set up, a Mac running 10.6.8 will be able to connect to the wireless or wired network as a client.

  • Add Supported Channels Airport extreme Macbook Pro 15' late 2010

My wireless network at school recently added another router under our classroom. The channel for this connection is channel 13 which is not supported under the default supported channel settings.
I was wondering if there is way to add or change these settings.
    Thank you,
    Danny Dagan
p.s. We are having this problem only with 4 MBP's late 2010 although we have 3 iMac 24's that DO CONNECT TO channel 13.

    Hi Bob,
Thank you for the reply. One thing I forgot to mention is that I am in Israel. I didn't think this would be an issue! Anyway, during this week I was able to find out a little more information about this problem.
Our wifi network at school is "shared" by two routers. The first is in one building about 300 meters away and it is using channel 5, and the second is in our music studio and it is using channel 13. We asked our network administrator at school to either change the name of the second router in our studio or to just change the channel to 1-11. He said that just because we have macs he will not go through the trouble(hater). The iMacs we use in our classroom were bought here in israel, so I am assuming that this is the reason they have channel thirteen and everyone who bought a mac book pro in America does not have channel 13.
    ANYWAY!!
Definately an annoying problem that can be solved in a minuet, but because of some very lazy people it might take a little more effort. Thank you once again for the help, I really appreciate it.
    Thank you,
    Danny Dagan

  • How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n?

I have just purchased the new Airport Extreme (August 2014) because Apple's website states
    Simultaneous dual-band support.
AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. That means it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time. So no matter which band your wireless devices use, they’ll automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest possible performance.
I have number of Macs in my home from a new MacBook Pro with Mavericks to a Macbook Air with Snow Leopard (due to required software) and iPads.
So after setting up the new Extreme my new MacBook only accesses 11n as does my older Macs. I checked by holding down the option key while clicking the WiFi icon at the top of my Mac. Well, not so automatic then as I was expecting 11ac and 3 times faster access (as stated by Apple).
I then looked for some documentation for setting up but cannot find anything.
    Hence my question here.
How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
At present the new Extreme is no better than my previous 2 year old one.
    Thank you.
    Michael

How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
Assuming that it is operating correctly, 802.11ac and 802.11b/g/n are broadcast simultaneously by default.
That is advertising. The real information is usually found in the small and hard to read footnotes:
Based on theoretical peak speeds. Actual speeds will be lower.
AirPort Extreme is based on an IEEE 802.11ac draft specification. Performance based on comparison with Apple’s 802.11n products. Comparison assumes AirPort Extreme network with 802.11ac-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires a Wi‑Fi-enabled device. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
Since the 802.11ac signal is being broadcast only using the 5 GHz band, some users report that they have had better results by using the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band, and then pointing their Mac to that specific signal or network. You may want to try that option.
But first as a test, please locate the MacBook Pro about 10-15 feet or 3-4 meters from the AirPort Extreme with clear line-of-sight between the two devices. Restart both the AirPort Extreme and the Macbook Pro and then check to see if the Mac is connected to an 802.11ac signal.
If not, please power off your other wireless devices...computers, mobile devices, etc. temporarily, and try the same test again.
    Please report on your results.

  • Does the Airport Extreme work w/Time Capsule (as prior info. said?)

Seems to me that any person contemplating the purchase of a new Airport Extreme should at least be able to see both what it is and is not capable of doing... Time Machine does not support a properly mounted Airport Extreme disk. Period. Unless this is the darker side of the product-- or lest this technical incompatibility is found to be "inappropriate" subject matter, I see no reason why this is not a valid technical question to be answered by Apple.
Why does the AE not fully support the feature-set of Leopard? Time Machine incompatibility is a serious and costly issue for all of us who bought AE's just weeks prior to Leopard's release...
Apple did indeed state (prior to release), that Leopard and Time Machine would fully support the Airport Extreme's disk-mounting feature. This is no longer the case, however, and it seems that Apple simply does not want this subject to be brought to light... This is a technical problem that can (and should) be solved via new software for the AE, or within Leopard itself.
I have been told to "call Customer Relations about this instead"-- however, no phone number was provided. In my experience, that department has proven to be incredibly difficult to connect with via Tech. Support. Why can't this issue be addressed here? Technical. Software. Hardware. Leopard.

    Kevin Brening wrote:
Just because this issue can't be solved, does not justify pulling the post from this forum-- as this information is vital to absolutely anyone who is contemplating the purchase of an Airport Extreme.
Actually it does. If you rant about a feature missing or spam the forum (which you did both) it will be removed. Read the Terms of Use you agreed to when you signed up:

However, this also includes those which are libelous, defamatory, indecent, harmful, harassing, intimidating, threatening, hateful, objectionable, discriminatory, abusive, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive in a sexual, racial, cultural, or ethnic context.+
+3) Post constructive comments and questions. Unless otherwise noted, your Submission should either be a technical support question or a technical support answer. If your Submission contains the phrase “I’m sorry for the rant, but…” you are likely in violation of this policy.+
This is a technical incompatibility, and as such, has a valid place in this forum.
Not really. Its a missing feature, not an incompatibility. Incompatibilities are things that a product should be able to do but can not due to conflicts. The AEBS was never compatible with the retail version of Time Machine, nor was it every said to be compatible with the retail version so its is a missing feature.

  • Airport Extreme USB problems

I am posting this information as part of case number 757-73818. Level 2 support for Airport Extreme has not returned phone calls, despite giving me a specific telephone number to call.
I am new to the MAC world and I must say, I am disappointed. I have been having EXTREME problems setting up my with a USB-2 drive attached to the Airport Extreme. I have a brand new iMAC (Intel version) and OSX with all of the updates. I have Microsoft Office Suite for MAC - 2004 with all of the updates installed. I have also conducted tests with a new Maxtor 300G external USB-2 drive and a Lacie 500G external USB-2 drive. The drives were both formatted using Apple's "journalled HPF+. The problems encountered are repeatable with both products. I have spoken with Apple Level 2 technical support and they are unresponsive and have not followed through on any promises. Based upon personal investigation, I have been able to run the following tests which might help someone correct the problem. I am not an engineer, I am a lawyer, so I apologize in advance if you find the approached flawed:
HERE ARE THE THREE PROBLEMS - THE FIRST WHICH I RESOLVED.
PROBLEM 1: When a USB-2 drive is mounted to the AirPort Extreme and I logged-off as a user, the system hungs. After numerous tests, all of which are repeatable, I determined that one Airport Extreme configuration will cause the system to hang, and the other will log-out normally. See my notes below:
1 Log-Off User w/o hanging computer connected to Airport Extreme with USB Drive
Option Checked Option Unchecked MENU ITEMS
    System Preference
    Network
    Options
    Disconnect from wireless
    network when a user
    logs out Hangs Normal log-out
PROBLEM 2: When saving Microsoft Word documents to a USB-2 drive attached to the Airport Extreme, I get an error message and the program crashes. The same file with the same extension can be saved to the local drive without a problem and to the USB drive if directly attached to the iMac. The problem appears limited to the .DOC extension. The file, saved locally, can be copied from the local drive to the USB-2 Airport Drive without issue:
Here is the error message and the results of my tests:
    Note 1: Microsoft Word Message
There is an unrecovable disk erron on file "Word Work File D-2" The disk you're working on has a media problem that prevents Word from using it.
    Try the following:
    * Try formatting antoher disk.
    * Save the document to another disk.
When trying to save the file as "Test.doc", a file is created by Word called "Word Work File D_X"
In "Finder" get info. The icon shows the file as EXEC. The file cannot be opened as an Excel file.
I duplicated this problem on a Maxtor and Lacie USB drives connected to the Airport Extreme.
I tested the following file extensions and obtained these results
    2 Saves Microsoft Word Document
EXTENSION LOCAL DRIVE USB/EXTREME USB CONNECT TO IMAC
.Doc Yes No (Note 1 above) Yes
    .RTF Yes Yes Yes
    Text Yes Yes Yes
    .HTM Yes Yes Yes
PROBLEM 3: When saving Microsoft Excel Workbooks to a USB-2 drive attached to the Airport Extreme, I get the following error messages. If I save the same file using any Excel extension to the local drive, no problem and no problem with the USB drive connected to the computer. The problem appears to apply only to the certain Excel file extensions when saving to the Airport Extreme USB drive. The files can also be copied from the local drive to the USB-2 Airport Drive without issue:
    Here is the error message
    Note 2: Microsoft Excel Message:
Microsoft Excel cannote access the file '[servername] SERVER:\{username]:Documents'
    There are several possible reasons:
    * The file name or path does not exist.
    * The file you are trying to open is being used by another program. Close the document in the other program and try again.
    * The name of the workbook you're trying to save is the same name as another document that is read-only. Try saving the workbook with a different name.
None of the above recommendations had any utility. Here are the results of my tests:
    Saves Excel Worbook:
EXTENSION LOCAL DRIVE USB/EXTREME USB CONNECT TO IMAC
Excel Workbook Yes No (Note 2 above) Yes

    Workbook Yes No Yes
    Excel 5.0/95
    Workbook Yes No Yes
    Excel 4.0 Yes Yes Yes

  • What is voltage power block at Apple Airport Extreme?

What is voltage power block at Apple Airport Extreme? 110 or 220 Volt. Or both type support.

The AirPort Extreme will operate on 100-240 Volts and 50-60 Hz, so it will work just about anywhere in the world if you have the right adapter for the wall jack.
The outboard power supply provides 12 Volts to the AirPort Extreme at about 2 Amps.

  • I need the the latest firmware for Airport Extreme Model A1034 (M8799LL/A)

    Hello everybody:
I want to flash my Airport Extreme Model A1034(M8799LL/A)with the latest firmware available..
    My Airport have a internal modem , 1 Wan , 1 Ethernet & 1 USB ports
I checked some firmware updates, but I am not sure what is the correct update ..
I don't want to ruin my Airport for flashing the Airport with the wrong update ..
I only have Windows Xp computers ,, I need a Mac to do it ?
Please somebody help me to find the update ,,
    Thanks in advance ,,

Do you know if this is still the case? (Version 5.7 is still the latest available for the 802.11g version of the AirPort Extreme Base Station).
I'm a little confused after the release of AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002 for Windows:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007002forwindows .html
It clearly states that "AirPort Utility v5.2.1 software supports the AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n, AirPort Extreme Base Station and AirPort Express Base Station." But then if you read the System Requirements it says that you need:
    * Windows XP with Service Pack 2
    * Windows Vista
    * AirPort Utility 5.0 or later
    * AirPort Extreme Base Station with *802.11n*
So what is the latest version for the 802.11g version of the AirPort Extreme Base Station?
    Thanks

  • Scanning with Airport Extreme

Just set up my new Airport Extreme, printing is working fine but I can not scan. Is scanning supported with Airport Extreme?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

from looking through the discussion forum more closely I found that is probably the issue...printing only and no scanning. A bit of a disappointment as I do a fair share of scanning. Seem interesting to have to wire-up for a function when wireless is so convenient.
Anyone think that this will change?

  • Make your Airport Extreme work JUST LIKE A TIME CAPSULE!

Do you own Leopard, yet can't use *Time Machine* because *_IT DOES NOT SUPPORT THE AIRPORT EXTREME'S USB HARD-DRIVE FEATURE?_* Is there an inexpensive solution to this problem, or does it require a new _Time Capsule?_
Well, the AEBS hardware does not seem to be the issue. Both a Terminal work-around and a UNIX script exist, both of which *ENABLE FULL AEBS USB DRIVE FUNCTIONALITY -- with no Time Capsule required.* Any current AEBS can function just like a Time Capsule-- here's a link to an Automator program that can run a UNIX script for you, which will set up your AEBS hard-drive for use with Time Machine:
    http://www.9to5mac.com/time-machine-fix-flux-capacitor-43262455
This will *ENABLE FULL AEBS-TM FUNCTIONALITY--* +*at no extra cost!*+ This "software fix" seems to work just fine in most cases... However, it's not "official", so use at your own discretion.
*Does anyone know of any other, potentially better software fixes or work-arounds?* The more solutions there are, the more functionality that Airport Extreme owners can get from their hardware.

I've done this, and it will let you do Time Machine backups to the air disk. But I recommend against it. The issue with the AEBS seems to be the nature of network writes. The AEBS (with the current firmware) doesn't guarantee the data is written before responding to the network, so it's not a secure backup. Everything will probably be fine, until there's a power fluctuation or network dropout or something disruptive like that.
Time Machine to another Mac is also disabled, until the 10.5.2 update. I believe this release improved network writes, so you can safely back up to network volumes of any Leopard computer. I'm now able to use a network volume from my server (running regular Leopard).
I'd wait until new firmware comes out for the AEBS, that will hopefully give it the Time Capsule functionality.

  • Airport Extreme and Verizon Hub

I recently purchased the Verizon Hub and I am currently using the airport extreme to communicate with it wirelessly. It is working great just one little set back, sometimes when trying to make a phone call i can not hear the phone ringing but in fact it is and eventually the person picks up but sometimes i hang up since i do not hear it ringing. I called verizon and they told me that i had to disable the SIP and ALG. Verizon does not support the airport extreme so im stuck not knowing how to disable this. Could someone please help me.

There is a thread over on the verizon forum. http://forums.verizon.com/vrzn/board/message?board.id=Verizon_Hub&message.id=220 &query.id=34881#M220
Some people have reported getting it to work. Maybe someone there can help.

  • Power Mac G4 + Airport Extreme

so i just got a Power Mac G4 running OS 10.2
i put in an Airport Extreme card... tried starting it up, and my monitor wasn't picking the computer up.
so i started the computer up without the Airport in it, just to see what was happening, and while the grey startup screen was going i put in the Airport card, and the computer isn't detecting it in the "Network" System Prefence...
how do i get this thing working?

Very interesting especially since pretty much all Power Mac G4's will not work with an Airport Extreme Card. even my MDD Dual G4 i have which I got new in late 2003 only came with a good old std Airport Slot the good old 802.11b variety which is rated at 11Mbps max.
what model PowerMac G4 do you have?
Also OSX 10.2 doesnt have full capabilitiy to support the Airport Extreme codecs. You'd likely need to upgrade your OSX to Panther or Tiger.
