Exhaust Fan not turning on.

Could someone please tell me how to turn on my exhaust fan?? My MB is running at about constant 55℃, which is normal, but I ran the yes>/dev/null and it was up over 110℃ with CPU idle% usage of 47% and still no fan turned on. It used to come on all the time while I was watching videos etc and now - nothing. I've recently had the logic board replaced - coincidence?
smcFanControl is installed - no effect.
FanControl 2.1 is installed - no effect.
iStat is installed for monitoring - exhaust fan reads 0rpm.
Help!!
Thanks.

I would take it in to Apple.

  • Macbook air's fan not turning off and it will not sleep when the lid is closed?

I downloaded OS X Mavericks yesterday. The fan will not turn off. It runs whenever i turn on the computer. The computer does  not turn off when i close the lid, and the fan still runs. There is also no battery icon anymore on my home screen. Is this just a bug with Mavericks? My computer is a mid 2012 edition.

  • Help!!! Macbook fan not turning on!

    Hello there!
I have a problem with my macbook fans. The fans do not turn on until the computer has been running at 80°C for 5 minutes and only then my macbook only runs at 3000 revolutions. The fans idle is 2000... I know this because I have an application from the mac app store called temp. guage and that tells me temperatures and fan speeds.
The fans to both of my brothers macbooks turn on once the computer is about 60-75°C and it turns onto 6000 revolutions and their idle is 2000 revolutions . Could it be that I have a macbook and not a macbook pro? Or could there be something wrong with my fans?
When I got the computer about 1 year ago the fans turned on a lot but I didn't have this app for various reasons but I could hear the fan turning on. I know that the fan back then was faster becaue i could heat it and when the fans now are at 3000 I can not hear it.
Could a connection be loose - I have never opened the back case but I carry the macbook a lot with my in school? Could there be so much dust on the fan that it tries to spin faster but it simply can't? Could it be the grease on the fan? can anyone help me narrow my decision? Do I need to replace my fan?
Today I was at the apple store and I did a diagnostic test. The only problem was with my speakers but I did not notice that. Point it the fans were all right in the diagnostic test but in reality the fans are not all right...
Someone please help! This is a desperate problem my computer keeps on shutting off because it gets too hot.

  • Fan not turning on...

Hey guys, hoping you can help me out.
My fan is not turning on and the case is hot to the touch. Noticed this a few days ago. Usually the fan turns on before it gets this hot.
I have run Cocktail maintenance and I have reset the PRAM, but still no go. I also have noticed that my machine chokes up doing simple things such as swithcing applications—like from Safari to Mail or Preview. Nothing overly CPU intensive.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    BGreg,
Turns out, my HDD was going bad. I actually found out yesterday morning when my machine froze during boot-up (spinning pinwheel). I booted from my Tiger Disc and ran Disc Utility...Low and behold the "Failure" warning from the S.M.A.R.T.
To answer your question though, I actually did run Activity Monitor during those fwe days and the cpu load was low. I didn't have my Hardware Test Disc since I am on vacation. Also don't have a processor temp application. DO you have any suggestions?
Anyhow, I had to call Apple Care to make sure they can cover the repair of my Pbook while I am on vacation here in the Philippines-which they do since APP is global for portables
NOTE: If you don't have Apple Care with a Powerbook, I highly suggest it. It's worth the piece of mind. My PBook was just 3months out of the 1yr Hardware Warranty.

  • Exhaust fans not spinning

    hi,
i moved my g5 the other day, and i noticed the fans at the back are not spinning. i think they're the exhaust fans. i looked in hardware monitor and ot says they are. but i can see they're not.
    anyone have any ideas?
    cheers

sorry, just being a ****! realized that those blade looking things aren't the fans. and the fans are spinning.
    sorry!

  • Exhaust fan not spinning

    hi,
recently my mac's been overheating, catastrophically, it causes crashes, freezes etc. during high processing situations.
iStat pro can show fan rpm's on both sides, the one on the left is fine - often running at 7000rpm,
but the one on the right is always 0rpm, and i cant hear this fan spin either, so i trust iStat's result.
i've seen many discussions on fans not working in these 15" powerbooks.....any solutions out there?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
While it looks pretty conclusive the right fan isn't working, I would still run the Apple hardware test to confirm ... it does turn the fans on and off during the test.
In terms of fix, you can try resetting the power management unit (PMU): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431 . No guarantee this will fix it, however, won't hurt either.
If that didn't fix it, then you need to replace the fan. If you have AppleCare, let Apple take care of it. Otherwise, you could take it to an Apple store for repair or an Authorized service center, which can be found in the US at http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/ . Or if you're familiar around a computer, you can replace it yourself. Instructions for replacing the right fan on the 1.5/1.67 low res system are at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G4-Al-15-Inch-1-5-1-67-BT-2-0-LR/Right -Fan/64/20/

  • IBook fan not turning on anymore

    Hi!
I'm using my iBook G4 (1.33 GHz) for about 9 months now and most of that time i played some game every now and then (hardware intense games like Halo or World of Warcraft). Normally, the fan started working for a few minutes and everything was fine. But in the last days (it's really hot here in Vienna...), the fan never turned on. Even when I'm playing WoW and the temperature reaches 72 degrees C, the fan doesn't turn on (normally it starts at about 65 C). I'm really wondering if this has got something to do with the 10.4.7 update because I didn't play for a few weeks and now this problem arised.
Are there any known problems with this update? Or is there some software that allows me to turn on the fan manually?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marco
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I have had my iBook g4 1.42ghz for almost a year now. I have not once heard the CPU fan turn on, not even when playing Doom 3.
Then again, my CPU rarely passes the 55 degree mark.
It should be the case that if the CPU gets too hot, the iBook will shut itself down.
Does anyone know the max temp for the CPU before failure?
My main concern is not for every single instance you would expect the fan to come on, so much as accumulated damage to the mainboard from maintaining such high temps. Maybe you should run a hardware test? Heck, with everything you have already tried, you may as well boot to the install disk and run disk repair and repair permissions. I can't imagine what could be wrong with the filesystem\permission that would cause this, but sometimes a little nonsensical voodoo magic cures problems that should not be related to these things.
Good luck, and keep an external fan blowing on your machine until this is resolved.

  • Fan not turning on until very hot

My Air has recently taken to getting very hot even when only running basic stuff, like surfing the internet. The fan is not cutting on until the computer is very hot. Is this a fan problem or a temperature reading problem? Is there a fix I can do or should I take it in?

Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.

  • Fans not turning off.

I don't know if this is in the right topic but here is my problem. I have the 790fx-gd70 in my custom build, my os is windows 7 home premium. When my pc goes to sleep, the fans keep running all night long. How do I correct this problem?

Yes there could be something in BIOS but since we do don't have a clue as to what your hardware is you're not going to get much help until you let us know what you have.

  • My macbook air does not turn on    i did try the sugestions of previous queries but all i can achieve is turning what i assume are the fans.still the screen is dead, although i have my macbook since christmas ,i only been using it for two months .

i have only been using my macbook for the last two months, yesterday before turning it off ,or shutting it down i revised the batterie charge and it had 97% charge so i shut the computer with the apple icon and shut computer off . four hours later could not turn it on , i read previous entries on the isue and there was a sucseful result ... i believe the first idea was to press power switch for five seconds unpluging it previously from the wall ,and try after ? did it two times ,but nothing, then on the prosses of resseting the cistem..SSsomething ,it mention pressing control and something else at same time ,to force quit anything that might be still running ( i notice then that the fans or the fan was making a noice.then press power for ten seconds and i could heard the fans off . i tried two times the reset option especific for the mac air with non remomable batteries ,but it still does not turn on ... i am very fustrated as the last two months have been very painful ,for i am very much a mac starter and at my age learning does not came easy ,and just as i am getting to enjoy the diference ... dead new toy   . can someone please advise? but regardless of .thank you . is unfortunate approching this community because of a need , but at the same time glad to know there is more than a shop assistant out there .thank you all .

  • Computer will not boot up but fan will turn on and stay on.

I have a Gateway and I did not have enough memory.  I bought 1Gig to give it enough memory to run the basic systems.  I added the memory to the slot in the hard drive and now it will not boot up.  The fan just turns on and runs.  I took out the new memory and it does the same thing.  No working computer.  Need help on what I should do besides Punt.
    Thanks,
    ZCDJSouza

First and foremost, recheck all internal connections to make sure you didn't bump something loose while replacing the RAM. I had the exact same thing happen to me once before only to find that I had accidentally loosened the cable to the hard drive.

  • Macbook pro not turning on after SMC reset. I have the following problem. Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011does not sleep when closing the screen. smc due loud fan and an X on battery symbol

Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011 dos not sleep when closing the screen cover. Today I Turner my laptop in. However the fan was working loudly and stayed loud. After Start I noticed an X on Battery symbol. Clicking on it, it showed 'no battery.' I found out that a potential solution for this problem was SMC reset. I also noticed that the leds on magsafe was not lightning. Despite this I tried to execute the smc reset as described on apple support site. Switching off, plugin the magsafe connector, pushed the buttons shift + alt+ ctrl + power. Then i pushed the power button, but my mbp is not turning on. I pushed several times on the power button but nothing works. The magsafe is also dark meaning the leds not lightning. Can anyone here help me on this ?

Problem solved by my own. But do not how :) magsafe again working and the laptop tooo

  • HT201257 Fan on my MacBook Pro came on and will not turn off, what could be wrong or how do I fix?

The fan on my MacBook Pro came on out of no where and will not turn off. The computer is not heated nor are any applications running in the background. The seems to be going on full blast. Before now it worked fine. Would turn on or off when need. Please advice what could be wrong or if ther is anything I can do to fix or troubleshoot. Computer is not even a year old.

LexSchellings: Now I know why you wished me luck and hoped everything would clear up asap hehe. I've been doing some reading and it is quite possible that my MBP late 2011 is sadly part of the probably million of MBP's out there with logic board issues. I am glad I am under warranty (still have to wait and see what apple techs decide on my comp) and sad that my comp will probably be done with in a few years. Not even 4 as it turns out. I can honestly say my old iBook G4 was amazing gave me 8 great years. Never had an issue with it.
Something funny is that about 10 to 15 mins ago the fan on my comp (the only indicator I got of any issue going on) quite down and the comp was working perfect. It has been running really slow since I noticed the fan being over worked even if nothing is running. Then it started up again and once again quite down, functioned well for like 10 seconds and started being noisy and slow again.
However there is an issue that bugs me, if according to my AHT results it is a faulty logic board how come my comp is still functioning? Of course being slow and noisy. I've read on some sad stories on here
Wish me more luck and send me lots of good vives. Going to need them. Especially if I end up not being able to fix the comp.
Apple is letting me down and to think I just purchased an iPad mini for xmas :/
