Exif and editing an image

Hello.  I have a question that I could not find through searching so...
In PS 5 or 5.5 (whatever the last few versions #'s are), say if a portrait is taken, then put into PS and retouched, removing wrinkles and the like, then saved as a jpeg, what EXIF info will show up?  Specifically with relation to the photo taken date?  Not sure if the original photo was in RAW or jpeg, but the resulting image was jpeg.  Would PS write the camera and photo taken date on the image as when it was retouched  (assuming that the EXIF info was NOT manually changed during retouching)?
Here's the scenerio, a portrait was taken (again, unsure if RAW or jpeg), then retouched and saved as jpeg.  When viewing the EXIF, it states the camera make and model, f-stop and shutter speed, along with photog's and/or retouchers name, and the photo taken date.
I need to know if that date is accurate.
Thanks for any input/answers.

Normally if the EXIF is still present the date will be the date the image was taken if the cameras data and time were set correctly when the photo was talen. If the Photo has GPS info it masy also help you may  need to correct time zone. I know when I travel I don't set the data and time to local time.  My trip to New Zealand and OZ are a day and many hours off.
However a retouched can easily strip if the choose to using save for web metadata options. As you know Metadata  even RAW files metadata can be edited by some programs. There are also programs available to chage date and times to help muser correct images the have with wrong date and times you set the difference in days hours etc and the program will batch correct timestamps in exif data.

  • Help with Importing and Editing an Image

    Hello All,
I am working on a project where I need to import an image into LabView and edit it. The gist of my program is that I want to create a VI that generates an interactive floorplan.
I want to be able to import the bitmap or png into my file so I can edit the file by assigning flashing colors to each room, etc.
I tried to import the .png by wiring "Read png" --> "Draw Flattened Pixmap" --> "new picture".
When I run the program I get a "general I/O" error in the "Read PNG" block even though it lets me select which png I can import.
Does LabVIEW 8.5 not allow for importing PNG files? Does anyone have any idea why I am getting this error?
On another note, I was reading about some of the IMAQ VI's and they seem like they may work for importing an image and creating graphics, etc. Should I try to delve a little deeper into the IMAQ stuff?
    Thanks much for the help!

Great call on checking whether it was just a bad file.
I tried to convert it from a .bmp to a .png by simply renaming it which LabVIEW did not like...
So I just opened it up and re-saved it with photo editing software and it worked!
Now I just have to play around with my editing options to get the graphics I want.
I'll post some sample code just for suggestions that anyone may have. This is just my preliminary structure without most of my condition statements. All the code inside the case structures will be added when I figure all this stuff out.
My goal is to have each strobe and interlock correspond to a different graphic on the floorplan. For example, when strobe 1 reads red, I want the corresponding room to flash red and vice versa with green and yellow. Also, when interlock 1 reads false, I want a flashing light to pop up next to the corresponding door.
Anyone have any ideas for how to make these kinds of graphics? I figured I may be able to use a color box for the solid colors and LEDs for the flashing lights but I would rather edit the pixels to make it look more professional.
    Thanks for all the help!

  • How to select and edit background images in templates?

I open a template in pages ('elegant brochure' for example) and there is a background image that takes up the entire background of the page. When I click on the image, instead of being surrounded by the 6 little circles (that allow resizing) there are little x's. I can't move or change the image. I thought this was a master object, but it does not have blue circles, and I have 'master objects selectable'. I find it a little annoying that I want to use a prepared template but edit it beyond what apple gives me. Why can't I have more control (short of making a template from scratch)? How do i edit the images that have x's surrounding them?

    easiz,
The x's indicate that it's a locked object. Click on Arrange > Unlock to edit it.

  • Photoshop 7.0 and editing Raw images

I'm new to dslr's and would like to snap raw images. I have ps 7.0 and have never used the open as nor do I know if this application will edit and work with Raw images. if anyone can help me I sure would appreciate it.

    Erik,
You can also check out www.officedepot.com as they still sell CS3 upgrade for 198 bucks. It is a legal copy too. They no longer sell it in their stores so you have to buy it on line. Then if you want buy CS4 upgrade later on. Save you 299 bucks total.

  • How to view and edit raw images from Nikon d610?

Just bought a Nikon D610 and was surprised that the raw images are not supported by Aperture.  Thought they would be the same as the D600.  Any easy way to fix this?

Any easy way to fix this?
    Not really.
You might import raw+jpeg pairs, while you are waiting for the raw support, and set Aperture to use the jpeg as original file. That can be switched back later. Or import only the jpeg, but keep the raw on the card and add them later.
Another possibility - use te software that came with your camera to develope the raw and import tiffs to Aperture, or use Adobe's dng converter to convert the raw to dng and work with the dng files.

  • Can I use iPhoto to view and edit images not stored in the iPhoto Library

    Hi folks,
I'm a newbie to Mac after 20+ years on PC...just switched 2 weeks ago....wish I'd done it years ago. Everythings so easy and fast...e.g. setup wireless broadband in 25 mins with no probs....and I have never done anything like that.
    Here's my Q.
I have a load of images, downloads and scans, of old manuscripts, authors etc. which I don't really want in my iPhoto library (which I would like to keep for actual photos. Is it possible to point iPhoto to another location (say in Documents) where it will let me view and edit these images without importing them into the library.
Alternatively can I view images as thumbnails in this other locations, and not as default file type icons.
    Hope this is plain,
    JP_MAC
    Imac G5 17" 1.9Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi jp-mac,
iPhoto 5 imports all images into it's own database. (this has changed with iPhoto 6 so you might want to check out iLife 6)
The other files you want to view but not have in the library...are they image files?
If so, you can view that folder as icons and then make the icons larger so you can see what they are.
To do this open the folder in question. click the first icon on top of View in the toolbar. This will make that folder contents view as icons
Now go all the way to the top of your screen and click on View>show view options.
Slide the icon size slider all the way to the right to view them larger. Also make sure you have the "show icon preview" checked.
This will work most of the time, but sometimes if you edit images in other applications they might not make icon previews, so check their preferences to make sure you have that checked.
There is also a little third party program that will do it for you.
    One is called Pic2Icon
    Pic2Icon
Another one is a contextual menu item called QuickImageCM.
    QuickImageCM
check out that page because there are some other useful contextual menu items that I use all the time.

Need software which can send images to my editor, have them make selections, share them with me so I can edit the images and send the final results back to them.  Will Lightroom work?

What I would like to do is to use Lightroom as I have been doing with LR 5.7.  Tag certain images to be shared to the Creative Cloud which my editor can then see and tag as to which she would like to see final versions of.  In the best case, I would then see these tags and edit the images as appropriate and save the JPEGs back to the Cloud where she can download them for final production.
    Possible?

  • Confused about editing RAW images on iPad

I just got a new 3rd generation iPad. I got it primarily to store, view, and edit RAW images captured by my Canon DLSR.
My camera takes 12 megapixel images. I am able to download them from the camera to the iPad using the Apple Camera Connection Kit. I can later move them from the iPad to my Mac. Everything flows through at the full resolution. This is all good.
My problems occur when I try to edit the images on my iPad. I have tried both Snapseed and Photogene. Both of these editors save the modified images at 3 megapixels. When I Google the exact dimensions of the saved files, I see they correspond to the size of the embedded JPEG preview stored in my Canon RAW files. So it looks like these editors are reading the embedded preview, and not the full RAW data. I do have Location Services enabled for the iPad and for these apps.
Is there an iPad image editor that will read RAW image data at full resolution? Maybe Filterstorm? Or do I need to use a RAW converter like PaRAWnah?
    Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the comments. I do use LR and PS at home, and I do most of my editing there. But since I don't have a laptop, I was hoping to be able to occassionally process a raw image on my iPad when away from home, in order to extract details from highlights or shadows that did not expose well on the jpeg preview.
Since I originally posted this question, I did purchase PiRawNah just to see what it was like to use. You can see my thoughts on it here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1046&message=41066455
    Thanks again for the help!

16bit? Pixels extending beyond the canvas? (from a crop with delete unused pixels turn off).  Have you previously been saving PSD files?
IME you sometimes have to tell Photoshop that the first save of a session is JPG, and it remembers from there on.  The way to 'tell' Photoshop that JPG, or PDF, or PNG etc are now your preferred format is to Ctrl (Cmd) click on that format in the Save As drop down list.  So long as the file does not have parameters that your chosen format does not support, then this should work for you.
[EDIT]  Just noticed that you did include 'Crop' in the subject line.  Do you have 'Delete cropped pixels' checked?

  • How can you use one image and edit it three different ways to export later?

I am a new Lightroom 3 user.  How can use the same image and edit it multiple ways to produce mulitple images to later export?  For example,  I have a picture of a bride and groom.  I want to use that image and create a color image, a black and white image, and a close up of their hands.

Do I need to do either of those options before I start editing the image at all?  For example,  what if I am working on the image and doing some creative edits.  Then I think of another option that I could do.  Is it too late at that time or can I still get the original image to begin with?

At the moment I would say it is uncertain whether Acrobat is completely ignoring the change, or whether the changes you are making aren't affecting the ink density. I have a suggestion for a test you could make to see which is the case.
When editing in Photoshop just add a box or mark on the image, for your tests.
    - If this box does not appear in Acrobat, you know Acrobat is not seeing the edit
    - If this box does appear in Acrobat, you know the problem is that your tool for changing ink densities is not taking effect.

Hi I have a question about shooting in Raw with my Canon EOS 6d.
I'm in the process of learning photography and my goal was to start shooting in raw.
I have Photoshop CS5. When I tried to edit my images in raw I received an error message stating, "The photoshop camera raw plug-in did not recognize the format. If these files are from a camera, you may need to update your camera raw plug in."
In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6. My version of CS5 is 6.0.0.205. Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost. THANKS in advance!
    Heather

In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.
That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.
Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
Or you can upgrade to CS6 (non-Cloud) and pay the upgrade fee
    Creative Suite 6
Or join the Cloud and pay the monthly fee
Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR

    Hi Karen
You may the sort set to Custom. Click the dropdown menu on the toolbar (to the right of the word sort) and change to capture time.
If you can’t see the toolbar above the filmstrip press the T key. Press T again to hide.

In the History Panel (on the left) of the Develop Module, click on any previous edit to see what the photo looked like at that step.
If you are going to regularly want to see two versions of edits on a single photo, consider using either virtual copies or snapshots.
