EXIF data display on iPhone???

Isn't there a way (or an app?) that will allow me to see photo details on the iphone? Seems like there should be an info option there, somewhere...
Much of the discussions I have researched end with "sync to your computer and view the data there".
What do you do when someone asks "when was that photo taken?"
I must be missing something obvious, right?!
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I am able to see the exif data (gps and date/time) when I export to my PC, too.
But, I still do not know of a way to list that data *from the iPhone itself*.
For example, if I spend a week taking pictures, I cannot determine which photo is from what date without pulling the pictures off the iphone. This seems a little odd to me. My $30 LG VX had a simple "Info" screen for each photo.
What would you do if you were showing pictures from your iPhone and someone asked when they were taken?

  • EXIF Data Display missing

What I'm really missing in Album is displaying of some EXIF-Data (Shutter Speed, ISO).
Other Apps like QuickPic show in three small rows the important data. But because of Google's restrictions I can not delete images with this app, so it's uncomfortable to switch between two apps.
I would love this in the Album-App.

       I'm feeling totally ignored.

  • IPhoto '08 corrupts EXIF data on export

    Hello All,
In using iPhoto '08 (including the latest update to 7.1) I am noticing the when I export files the EXIF data is getting corrupted.
My original files are fine--all EXIF data shows up properly, and galleries which I post to that are capable of displaying EXIF data display it just fine. However, when I export a file from iPhoto to JPG format, the galleries are unable to display the EXIF data. Using the Firefox extension, 'EXIF Viwer' ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3905 ), I see there are errors in the data (screenshot here: http://jaaulde.com/exif_viewer.png )
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Jim

    Jim:
It may be the server side software that's causing the problems. Another thread went thru something like this extensively and we found that files from some cameras, Canons for one, are not read properly by the software. We've downloaded the files and read the EXIF data and it was all there. I have a gallery of files from various cameras as an example: http://gallery.mac.com/toad.hall/100196. Click on the "i" button in the slideshow and you'll see those that get the EXIF data correct, primarily the shutter speed, and those that do not. I don't remember the thread but you can search this forum for "EXIF web gallery" or similar.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. iPhoto doesn't not have to be closed to run it, just idle.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • EXIF data - Why is so much is missing in LRx but in RAW / DNG / CR2 images

I've seen the limitations in the EXIF data as shown in LR. I've seen the comments that it would be SO useful to sort / filter by all the EXIF data available in LR.
However LR shows a small proportion of the information that is available in the Meta data but there is missing EXIF data, that is of use to users, not every day, but it is there and with the aforementioned improvement of searching / sorting / grouping / stacking, I'd like this data to be accessible.
I was looking to find all the correctly exposed images in sets of 3 auto bracketted images -2, 0, +2 from todays shoot but this info is not listed in LR
So I looked in PhotoGrok, and it told me that the image I was looking at was AEBBracketValue -2, ie 2 stops under exposed in a set of auto bracket.
It also told me my camera was 37º when I was shooting in Cape Town this morning. It most certainly was not that warm outside.
My reason for finding the correctly exposed images in the sets was to see if they had sufficient exposure data to be used as one image rather than combining the 3 bracketted images using fusion / enBlend software to rescue the shadow detail and highlight detail in my shoot.
If you do play with PhotoGrok, you see more info than may be / is / could possibly be useful. But it does list a great deal.
    I do get the basics
    exposure
    aperture
    focal length
    35mm equivalent
    focal distance
    hyperfocal distance
    colour balance
    AEBBracketValue
    and the list goes on.
More importantly, this data has been extracted by LR from Canon 5DII CR2 files to DNG, so LR can see all this info.
    Anyway, that is my request.
There is limited EXIF data displayed in LR, there are requests for sorting / searching / listing / stacking by more of the meta data that LR accesses.
I would like to see much more of this data available to be sorted / searched / stacked, so I can find amongst all the EXIF data, the AEBBracketValue = 0, ie correctly exposed images.
Rob Cole  - Does your anyfilter access more of this info?
Hillrdg- you asked me to give my motivations for making suggestions, so I''ve taken your advise on board and to substantiate my argument.
yes, there is a workaround - It is to sort all the photos by capture time or file number and arrange them into 3 images in a grid view and just select the correct column, but this is slow. More importantly, this request is about vastly improving access to EXIF data and for other uses of the vast amount of EXIF data available in images.

Now I was under the impression Preview/Versions only take up a miniscule space on the HD since they don't FULLY copy the master file, they more create a bridge between the two that amounts to a few MB. Is it possible that it's taking up a much larger amount than intended here (a la the same basic mail attachment problem, but with Preview)? If so, what directory would that be located in?
Apple's documentation on Versions and what is kept in the Versions database is misleading, in my experience, though others will argue to the contrary.
In any case, all the Versions files and the database that keeps track of them are in an invisible folder in the root directory called
    .DocumentRevisions-V100
The easiset way to check its size is to show invisible files by pasting the following command in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE; killall Finder
    press 'return' on the keyboard.
Now navigate to the hard disk in Finder and you should see DocumentRevisions and its size.
To turn off invisible files, use the same command as above but replace TRUE with FALSE.

  • CS6 Bridge "Not Displaying Subject Distance Information in Exif Data"

In Bridge CS5 the "Subject Distance" information is displayed for Zoom lenses which report distance information, under the Camera Data (Exif) panel.
In Bridge CS6 either 64 or 32 bit, no "Subject Distance" information is displayed for the same files, which report this information under CS5 bridge.
I have checked that the "Subject Distance" is checked and turned on under the preferences section. Not sure if the data is either not being read or just not being displayed.

    Thanks Ian,
Read Metadata from File isn't the answer since doing this obliterates everything that has been added to the metadata since the original import, but does add the Subject Distance.  I'm using RAW (NEF) files without xmp sidecars.  If I save to xmp and then Read Metadata from File, it works.  I just hoped there might be a simpler way to get the Subject Distance into the catalogue.  I also have many jpg images in my catalogue (before I started shooting raw) and the xmp solution can't be applied to those, although I could save the metadata to the jpg files (I don't really want to do that either).  I originally started with a Nikon D50 and those images have Subject Distance in their Exif data, so the information is there for all my images, I just need an easy way to get it into the catalogue.

  • Bridge - Exposure Camera Data (Exif) metadata display problem

I'm working with raw files with thumbnails displayed in Bridge Content.  In Bridge preferences > Metadata I have Exposure and Exposure Bias Value checked on. (These are the first two lines in the metadata panel.)  When I select a raw file in Bridge the Exposure and Exposure Bias Value metadata are displayed in Bridge Metadata panel as expected.  When I open the raw file in acr 7 and make some edits, click Done in acr and return focus to Bridge, the Bridge thumbnail is updated  but the Exposure line in Bridge metadata panel disappears -- the Exposure Bias Value is the first line of the metadata panel.  If I clear the settings, the Exposure line and data return to the metadata panel.  I also have 'Exposure' selected for one of the additional lines in thumbnail metadata, where the exposure data is correctly displayed even when the exposure metadata line is not shown in the metadata panel.
I do not see this problem in pscs5 with acr 6.7 beta.  Is there some setting I need to check or is this a bug?

For anyone who may find this post wondering why they can't see the specific EXIF data for each photo... "Show Metadata Placard" may be what you're looking for. Click the drop down at the top right of your Metadata panel and tick "Show Metadata Placard."  This will display a panel that looks like the info. panel on your camera (shutter speed, f-stop, iso, white balance, etc.).
I had to figure this out after getting frustrated by the fact that Camera Data (Exif) in the Metadata panel only shows the "Max Aperture Value" of the lens instead of the aperture value that you actually shot.

  • EXIF data LENS MODEL information is not displayed

I have imported my photos into Aperture 2.0.1 and notice that in the EXIF data, the Lens Model is blank. I know the information is in the RAW image file because when I open it with other RAW converters I can see the lens information that I used to take the shot. I am not sure why this information isn't showing up or how to get it to see it or display it.
Don't know if it matters but I shoot with a Pentax K10D.

The lens data doesn't appear for my K10D either so I guess it does matter. The images I'm working on were just imported into Aperture 2.0.1. I've switched between Raw 1.0 and Raw 2.0 with no change. The field is still blank. It's get the focal length right so I expect the data is there. I'll bet it works fine for most of the Canikons.
I really would like to be able to use this field for searching. I'll keep checking though.

  • Photo EXIF Data Stripped When Sync'd BACK to iPhone via iTunes

I'm not sure whether this belongs here or in the iPhone forum, but since it looks like an iTunes problem, I thought you all might have an idea. Here's the problem:
    1. Take Picture with iPhone (3GS, if it matters) in portrait orientation.
    2. Import Picture into Photoshop Elements 7.
    3. EXIF Data survives (including correct orientation).
    4. Put Picture in "iPhone Pictures" Album in Photoshop Elements 7.
    5. EXIF Data survives (including correct orientation).
    6. Delete Picture from Camera Roll on iPhone.
    7. Sync "iPhone Pictures" Album (which includes Picture) to iPhone using iTunes 8.2.0.23.
    8. EXIF Data lost (including incorrect orientation).
    9. Picture appears on iPhone with incorrect orientation and all other EXIF Data appears to have been lost.
This appears, then, to be a problem with the way iTunes is treating the Picture when it syncs it back to the iPhone as a part of the "iPhone Pictures" Album, but I'm not certain.
My particular concern is with the loss of the orientation flag (which results in all portrait images rotated 90* CCW).
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks.

Great bug report! Sorry, I don't have any ideas on how you might workaround it. I can only suggest that you submit it to Apple as a "real" bug report.

  • Photos uploaded from iphone have exif data stripped out

How can I upload a photo from iphone via safari or an app with the EXIF data still intact? When I upload now from the phone via safari or an application, the EXIF data is lost.

You need to use the photo stream folder to share photos on a PC.

  • Pentax lens type not displayed in exif data.

I have an SMC Pentax-DA 18-250mm lens, which I use on my K10D. I save the raw files in .dng format directly on to the memory card, then import them unchanged into LR.
LR has persistently refused to show the lens type in the exif data for this lens - other Pentax lenses that I have work fine, as do all the other lenses that I have used in the past. This applies to all LR versions, including the current v2.1 beta. It DOES correctly show the actual focal length used for the shot, and the 35mm equivalent.
The lens type data is definitely present in the .dng files - the Pentax supplied raw convertor shows it.
I know the lens is a relatively model from Pentax, but I bought it nearly a year ago now, and LR has undergone several updates since then - enough time for LR to catch up, I would have thought?
It is an annoyance, rather than a big deal, but I'd appreciate any thoughts or comments.
    Cheers
    Steve Morton

I am testing Lightroom 2. I believe this problem is still occuring.
    Can this be confirmed?

  • Problem creating a 'used sources' list based on EXIF data in InDesign CS5

    Hello everyone,
I recently started to use InDesign CS5 to work on school projects. These projects regularly require us to have a list of sources, not only for citations and referenced work, but also for images. As I sometimes make quite long documents, keeping track of what image is where, and where I got it from, gets tedious.
I had the idea of generating a caption based on EXIF data, which I'd move to the pasteboard, and group it with the image. The text in the caption has a seperate, numbered paragraph style. On one of the last pages, I generate a table of contents, which the numbered paragraph style selected. I chose to display it using another paragraph style, without page numbers.
What I want to have as the end result is:
    Table of contents
    1. <Title>. <Author> (<Creation Date>). Retrieved <Date Placed> through <Description>
The captions display correctly, as shown above in the body of the table of contents. The table of contents itself however, shows only the numbering in front of it, and not the variables.
I already tried converting the live captions to static captions, but that doesn't work. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?

  • How do I get my data stored in iphone 4S  internal memory, which was stored via USB connected to PC? Able to access just DCIM files ie image files and other docs like PDF, word and exel are not showing up

Please, help in retrieving my data stored in iphone 4s, which displays just DCIM folder when access from PC.

You can only transfer contents back, if they are associated with a certain app that takes up documents. If you go to the sync pane for apps and check the lower list of apps, clicking them one by one and check if contents you need are showing on the right hand side.
Other contants cannot be transferred back, especially synced pictures cannot be transferred back to the computer.

  • HT1296 I have a problem synching calendar data between my iPhone 3GS iOS 5.1 & Outlook 2007 on MS7.  The basic calendar is OK but the birthdays (little box icon) are a day early & cannot be changed to the correct date. How can I fix this?

I have a problem synching calendar data between my iPhone 3GS iOS 5.1 & Outlook 2007 on MS7.  The basic calendar data transfer is OK but the birthdays (little box icon) are a day early & cannot be changed to the correct date. The birthday entries in my Outlook contacts have correct dates. How can I fix this?

The following peocess corrects the calendar entry:
edit the contact & change the birthday, save the change; edit the contact & change the birthday to the correct value, save the change again. The calendar entry then displays on the correct date.  Alternatively as a temp solution I can just de-select the "birthdays" calendar which stops the icon being displayed.
Thanks for your advice, I think that it's n going to be a slow process to fix all the entries for not much return.

  • IPhoto for iOS removes the GPS exif data from the photo after an edit

iPhoto for iOS removes the GPS exif data from the photo after an edit
Using the iPhone camera, I take a photo and then I want to make the photo a little brighter.
So, I edit a photo using iPhoto for iOS and then save the photo back to the camera roll.
Now, I might want to see where that photo was taken via another app (like Photo Mapo) or on the map using the Photos app, or even the Mac iPhoto app.
However, the GPS data has been removed. Looks like all of the other exif data is still in the photo.
Why not just have a feature to remove the GPS data if the user wants? no reason to remove it for them.
The user explictily chose to have location services turned on so the GPS data would be in the photo.
    Is this a bug?
    Thanks,
    Brian.

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.
None of my cameras has a GPS function so I never see that data in the info of a photo in iPhoto for iOS. But I do see the map choice to set a location for the photo. Perhaps a reboot will fix this for you.
