EXIF Data for Collections?

I want to know if there is any EXIF Tag which Lightroom can read to automatically put a photo into a collection with a matching name. I'm working on transfering thousands of pictures from an old photo management software to lightroom and it would be really helpful if lightroom could automatically put the photos into collections based on some EXIF data.

You could create Smart Collections based on many different EXIF data fields.
I don't think you can create regular (not-Smart) Collections in any automated way.
Alternatively, you could use keywords in Lightroom in place of collections, and if the keyword or tag exists in the photo file (or sidecar file), Lightroom will read it and you're done. If the keyword or tag doesn't exist, but the information is in another field, you could use ExifTool to write the information to the keyword field, and again Lightroom will read it and then your all set with your keyword in Lightroom. No need for a collection if you have the desired photos identified by a keyword.

EXIF data for PNG files

I seem to have lost all EXIF data for pictures that I first converted to PNG format, and then edited in iPhoto.
The EXIF data is still there in the copies of the files in the "Originals" folder in the iPhoto Library. If I open these files with Graphic Converter, I can see the EXIF data.
But the EXIF data seems to be missing from the PNG files in the "Modified" folder.
Is this some sort of quirk with PNG files in iPhoto?

I just googled this and the issue appears to be that png does not support EXIF data, or if it does, only in a very limited way. I'm no expert in this field but have a read of this:

How to copy EXIF data for a single photo?

Hello,
I post photographs to a few different photo forums for community comment and critique. Including the basic technical data for each photograph is common and having to type it in manually is tedious. Is there a quick and easy way to copy or extract basic EXIF data (exposure, focal length, EV, ISO, exposure program, metering, make, model, lens) for a single photo to the clipboard? The information is all over LR I just can't determine how to get it out quickly.

I don't see anyone provided you with an answer.
The hard way is to export the metadata to the file and use an external program. There are many programs that manipulate metadata. I haven't wanted to export it in the way you describe.
What operating system are you on?

QuickView uses EXIF data for preview, even when bogus. A plist to turn that off?

We moved to MBPs with SnowLeopard recently and just found that many downloaded images usually from publicity or stock-photo sites - give distorted or no preview when we use QuickView (tapping the space-bar) on them in the Finder.
Some investigation showed that the distorted images have EXIF data tha has either been corrued or purposefully messed with. Here's an example where the QV preview widget opens to the width of the screen but at minimum height:

The EXIF data says the X resolution is 0.0ppi.
These files all open fine in Photoshop or Graphic Converter. Sometimes GC's resolution tool shows that the horizontal & vertical resolutions are different (300 x 0.3 for example) and I can correct it, re-save the jpeg image. and QV then previews them just fine in the Finder.
Most, however only have this bogus resolution in the EXIF data and evidently QuickView preferentially uses that info.
There are tools that can be used to simply carpet bomb the EXIF data of a batch of files, but most of it is useful to us so we'd rathr not rsort to that. Is there a QV plist where clever folks can edit it so QV uses the actual image resolution rather than what's in the EXIF data?
Incidentally, QV in Leopard ignored this data which is why we only now began to encounter images where QV is useless. Bogus EXIF resolutions have probebly been in image headers for years and we did not realize it until we found SnowLeopard's Finder payed attention to them.

Wrong EXIF data for JPEGs in Bridge and PS

Hello,
My Nikon D300 files are not being properly read by Bridge and Photoshop. RAW files are fine. When I get file info for JPEGs, though, much of the EXIF data is corrupted. For instance, ISO Speed is shown as "51200" instead of 500, and Focal Length is shown as "2.0 mm" instead of 140mm, etc. This incorrect data shows up in Bridge (in the metadata panel and file info) as well as the file info dialog box in Photoshop.
When I get the EXIF info in Preview.app, all the info is correct.
Anyone know what might be going on?

Update - this problem is not limited to my D300 files. I just realized that the JPGs from my Canon SD800IS point & shoot are also not being "seen" properly by the Adobe apps. The ISO value doesn't even show up in CS3 apps, but I can see that data in Preview.app.

Inconsistent import of EXIF data for RAW images

As of the last month or so I have started to notice import issues related to EXIF data within Aperture. When I import images from a card into a new album, some of the images import EXIF data and others do not. This behavior is seemingly random and affects a subset of all images. Even images taken on the same card with the same camera seconds apart can have differing behavior. At first I presumed that it was a faulty CF card but I now see this behavior across multiple cards (CF, SDHC). Even more perplexing is that the EXIF data will be associated to some images when I import once, and after reimporting the same images once agin from the same source, some do not have the EXIF data. This inconsistent behavior leads me to believe there may be a bug in the import process.
Has anyone had a problem like this? Any advice?

Yes, it is weird. My experience matches zeroorone's. No EXIF inf. showed. I wasn't using a metadata preset that showed _all_ EXIF, but a lot of it, and all the "important ones". It seems reasonable to assume that none of the EXIF was showing.
Brand new installation of everything, less than 1 week old, all up-to-date (I am re-installing everything, slowly; porting nothing except some pref and support files, and data files). Only happened once so far (but on three consecutive imports).

Only One Billing Date for Collective Invoices

Hi Gurus,
I have a peculiar client requirement.
There is a Order related billing. Now this Order type and Billing type is used by 30 RBUs.Now I want to do Collective billing for a particular RBU on last day of the month. Also I dont want the billing to happen any time of the month in between so I can think of blocking of Order but this will block all Orders for that type. Also if I use Billing block this will block all Billings !
I am thinking of taking ABAP help.

Does PSE11 show HDR exif data for a Canon 5D Mark III?

I have taken some pictures with the HDR feature on my Canon 5D Mark III. The HDR image that the camera creates does not show that it was created using the camera's HDR feature when viewed with PSE11. The Canon Software that came with my camera is ImageBrowserEX 1.4.0 and it shows these data: HDR Shooting Enable, Adjust dynamic range +-2, HDR Effect Natural, Auto Image Align Enable. Is there a way to show the HDR exif in PSE11? Thanks, Anne

Thanks -- I should have mentioned in my original question that I had already looked at File>Info. The usual stuff is there but nothing about the image being created from the HDR camera function, or at least that I could see. I went through all the tabs including Advanced and just don't see it. I will try to figure out how to ask Adobe Technical Support and how to request that they get that info included if it's not there. Anne

Exifa data for Nikoon lenses

i have more than one lens covering the same focal lenght (i.e. 12-24 DX and 17-35) but Aperture just gives me the lenght used and not the lens info (this data is available if i open the RAW file with any nikon software product as nikon capture).
There is a hope to have this fixed in the future?

Photoshop not seeing lens model in exif data from A3 export

Hi, I am trying to use the lens correction features in CS5 but the lens type can't be read in the exif data of an image I've exported from A3. It sees the focal length and body type. The lens type is listed in the Metadata Inspector in A3. I took the image into iPhoto and checked "extended photo info" and the lens type isn't there either. This happens with at least 2 lenses. One prime and one zoom. Any ideas?

Having played with metadata a bit more, it is possible to include EXIF data for the lens size etc.. eg...EF300mm f2.8L IS USM But it doesn't append the manufacturer's name, eg I use Canon, yet 'Canon' is not appended to the Lens data like it is to the camera name..
In the library Inspector click > Metadata > where it says 'General' click the down arrow, then click > Edit > from the window that appears click > EXIF > from the drop down list click > Lens (scroll down a bit)
The lens you used will now be appended to your data.
I have not tried exporting this to Photoshop so maybe you could post back if its possible to export this data to PS or not.
Maybe someone has information on this and can chip in here with advice....

PS to all reading this, I also noticed while playing around with this ( I have not delved into metadata too much since Ap2) that all my personal details like mobile number, address, email etc are all appended by default, I imagine my address book info has been used here.
A useful feature indeed while selling photo's, or if you intend it to be there..... but not so good if you are not aware it's there in the first place.....!

Export of RAW files loses EXIF data

I am having a problem when I export files out of the PSE Organizer from RAW format to JPG that I am losing EXIF data on the resulting JPG file.
I am using PSE 6 on Windows Vista and primarily manage my images in RAW format (Nikon D300 NEF) within the Organizer. I am using the latest Adobe Camera RAW plugin ver 5.1 but I have tried this with the last three Camera RAW plugin versions without any difference.
I typically need to get the RAW NEF images into JPG format to post them to my blog so I normally select several NEF files at once within the Organizer then CTRL-E (or File, Export, As New Files), select JPEG, then Export.
The resulting JPG file has no EXIF data for the camera (e.g. Camera make, model, f-stop, exposure, etc) that was on the original NEF file. I am determining this by right-click, Properties, Details on the file within Windows explorer.
Other tests I have done to diagnose this are:
1. Opening an NEF file in Full Edit mode from the Organizer then doing a File, Save As (JPEG), the missing EXIF data *does* get saved properly. The problem with this approach is that it is not suitable to export hundreds of NEF files.
2. I downloaded a trial version of PSE 7 and it behaves identically to PSE6 in this test.
3. I downloaded a trial version of Lightroom 2 and the export feature works properly in this test.
Any help would be appreciated.

My observations of what is happening is exactly what you are seeing with one exception about the XMP update. My reply that I posted about seeing the XMP file being updated was based on the observation that when I did a File > Write Keyword Tag the time and date changed on the XMP file as seen with Windows Explorer. I also looked inside the XMP file with a text editor and saw the updated comments and tags inside. Pentax lens type not displayed in exif data.

I have an SMC Pentax-DA 18-250mm lens, which I use on my K10D. I save the raw files in .dng format directly on to the memory card, then import them unchanged into LR.
LR has persistently refused to show the lens type in the exif data for this lens - other Pentax lenses that I have work fine, as do all the other lenses that I have used in the past. This applies to all LR versions, including the current v2.1 beta. It DOES correctly show the actual focal length used for the shot, and the 35mm equivalent.
The lens type data is definitely present in the .dng files - the Pentax supplied raw convertor shows it.
I know the lens is a relatively model from Pentax, but I bought it nearly a year ago now, and LR has undergone several updates since then - enough time for LR to catch up, I would have thought?
It is an annoyance, rather than a big deal, but I'd appreciate any thoughts or comments.

Incorrect EXIF date

Last night, I closed Aperture and went to bed. Everything was fine. This morning, I woke up and saw that a picture had gotten out of order when sorting by date.

Nikon EXIF data incomplete

If I look at the EXIF data for a file in iView Media Pro I can see what metering was used for a shot (i.e. matrix, program, spot, etc.). The same field in Aperture shows up with numerical values (0, 3, etc.). Is this a Nikon thing or a problem with Aperture?

Yeah, the same thing happens to me with my Nikon D50 and the latest Aperture version. I guess Aperture doesn't recognise some special Nikon EXIFs.
If you abosolutely depend on this feature you may "translate" the EXIF information using EXIFutils (U$D30) from http://www.hugsan.com/EXIFutils .
You can, for example change all numerica data to actual metering mode text: "Matrix, Spot, etc..." But please be aware that EXIFutils are command-line utilities that need some typing / scripting.
Otherwise we'll have to wait for Apple to fix this.
These are the standard values and corresponding metering modes.

IPhoto 11 - Extended EXIF data where?

Hi,
I've just upgraded to iPhoto 11 and can't access the extended EXIF data for each photo that was available with "Show Extended Photo Information" in '09. I regularly retrieve the long and lat of the photo from here so if it is gone it is a problem for me. Anyone else found a way to get to the full EXIF data?
