EXIF Data in Bridge CS5

Is there a way to get Bridge CS5 to display even more EXIF data than it does by default?

Some fields in the EXIF standards are optional and many camera makers do not fill in optional fields like lens info.   They record information like that in their camera makers notes instead.  To verify what is what use a good image viewer that displays meta data well I think PhotoME does a good job.  Use it to display files written by your Camera to see what EXIF data it writes to begin with.

  • Problem creating a 'used sources' list based on EXIF data in InDesign CS5

    Hello everyone,
I recently started to use InDesign CS5 to work on school projects. These projects regularly require us to have a list of sources, not only for citations and referenced work, but also for images. As I sometimes make quite long documents, keeping track of what image is where, and where I got it from, gets tedious.
I had the idea of generating a caption based on EXIF data, which I'd move to the pasteboard, and group it with the image. The text in the caption has a seperate, numbered paragraph style. On one of the last pages, I generate a table of contents, which the numbered paragraph style selected. I chose to display it using another paragraph style, without page numbers.
What I want to have as the end result is:
    Table of contents
    1. <Title>. <Author> (<Creation Date>). Retrieved <Date Placed> through <Description>
The captions display correctly, as shown above in the body of the table of contents. The table of contents itself however, shows only the numbering in front of it, and not the variables.
I already tried converting the live captions to static captions, but that doesn't work. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?

  • How to view video Exif data in Bridge

I cannot view video Exif (i.e., camera settings) data in Bridge.  I can see it for still images.  I shoot video in both MOV and MTS, but can see it for neither.  How do I view it?

Thanks.  Is there some equivalent of Exif information for video?  For stills, I shoot RAW and much appreciate being able to veiw the camera settings once the file is in Bridge.  I'm new to video.  It would be even more helpful for me to see the video details, so I can better learn from my practicing.  I can view some video file data in my camera after shooting:  f-stop, white balance method, compression method, aspect ratio, and frame rate.  So, this data is being captured and stored on my memory card.  After downloading to Bridge, I'd like to be able to view this same info there.  Is this possible?

  • Writing EXIF data in Bridge

    Hi,<br /><br />I'm trying to write EXIF information into photos using Adobe Bridge and Extend Script. There were lots of scripts I found very useful as a start in this forum, but still I'm not able to write EXIF data.<br /><br />Found several approaches<br />1. According to the Bridge JS Reference it should be pretty straight forward:<br /><br />var m = app.document.thumbnail.metadata;<br />m.namespace = "http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0";<br />alert( "Metadata.Exposure: " + m.<metadataname> );<br /><br />But this doesn't return a value nor is it writable.<br /><br />2. A different syntax I found in a adobe script (using the MdNs objects from the AdobeLibrary3.jsx) would be:<br /><br />var md = <somethumb>.synchronousMetadata;<br />var exifKey = "exif:GPSLatitude";<br />var mdElement = null;     <br />var mData = null;<br />var mdElement = MdNs.elements.get(exifKey);<br />if ( isValidReference( mdElement ) ) {<br />   mData =  mdElement.getValue( md );<br />   alert(exifKey + "=" + mData);<br />}<br /><br />This syntax is working for reading the data. But how do I write?<br /><br />I would appreciate any help here, since the Adobe documentation on that is much too short.<br /><br />Thanks, Gerrit

Hello! It would be nice to have a migration script in Bridge too...
In the past, there were folders you could copy, but given the database changes, I'm not sure, I need to check first with the team.
On a Mac, it is in the collections folders in ~Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/Bridge CS5/Collections/
    PC(XP): C:Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS5\collections
    VIsta/7: user/app data/roaming/Adobe/Bridge CS5/Collections
    Hope this helps
    Was this helpful?  Yes    No

When upgrading no files are copied from the previous version.  So you will have to find them and copy them over.  Locations are in post above.

  • From Bridge To PS To Export - EXIF Data Lost

    Hi all,
I'm wondering what happens to my EXIF data when I import a Canon RAW file via ACR from Bridge to PS. When I export the file as a JPG and then right-click the jpg properties, none of the camera data is recorded. Perhaps there is a tick-box I've just not ticked?
Also, if I add keywords in Bridge, should they carry through the export process? I'm interested to know if it's possible to auto complete the keyword field in flickr when uploading an image.
    CS5 with W7 and Canon 5Dii RAW.
    Thanks in advance.

Can you be a little more explicit about the exact steps you're taking?
I just opened an image from Bridge into Photoshop by right-clicking a CR2 file, choosing Open In Camera Raw, then hitting the [Open] button in the Camera Raw dialog.  Then I did File - Save As - JPEG, and all the camera metadata was retained (per Explorer's Properties, Details tab).
When you say "export", exactly how are you saving the file?  With File - Save For Web & Devices, there's a Metadata field that allows you to specify how little or how much to keep.

  • Bridge CS6 overwrites EXIF data and changes image orientation.

    Hi,
I seem to be having issue with Bridge CS6 overwriting or corrupting my image EXIF data.
The situation is this, while in Bridge CS6, I open a folder with some images in it. There I select one image. Right-click on it and select File Info. In the XMP dialogue box I fill in the fields I need and save this file as a template. Then, I select the rest of the images, go to Tools and choose Replace Metadata. In the fly-out, select and click the template I've just created and this is where I have the issue. All the updated images now have the the same date and time. I NEVER had this happen in Bridge CS5. In Bridge CS5, while all the IPTC data was overwritten, the EXIF data was left alone. This does not seem to be the case in Bridge CS6 where both the IPTC and EXIF data now seem to be overwritten. If this is the case, need to ask why?
Hope someone here can confirm and comment on this. Cheers.

Then, I select the rest of the images, go to Tools and choose Replace Metadata.
You have to choose 'Append Metadata'  this adds the template to the already existing data instead of overwriting the already existing data.
And without knowing your needs or workflow, why don't you create a template (or some extra if you have specific difference you often use) with the most common and always used info (copyright etc) and add this to al your files.
Then when in Bridge choose the metadata panel with IPTC core section in view.
Select the files you want to alter and in the Metadata click on a field with the pencil icon (means you can add info to it) and fill in the fields you need the info in. If keywords needed switch to the keyword panel to add the wanted keywords to the selected files.
Just another approach that might be more suitable and faster.

  • Exposure exifs in Bridge CS5

After having read a similar thread (What happened to exposure-related EXIF values in the Metadata panel?) which doesn't really answer my question, I got to start a new one:
    1) In my Bridge CS5 I want to know the "Exposure" entry with info like "1/50 s at f/2.8" in the meta data placard.
    2) So I set this in the Bridge presets / meta data / camera data (Exifs)
by activating "exposure" plus "exposure correction".
    3) After that exposure values of jpgs and tiffs show up in Bridge --- so far so good.
    4) But next time when opening Bridge this preset has been "forgotten"! Isn't it stupid work to do above number (2) each and every time after starting Bridge?
    Looking forward for help...
    MtMichel

Adobe applications only save their prefereces when you quit them in an orderly fashion.
    mtmichel wrote:
…it seems that only if I leave Bridge by File/Exit it remembers changed presets after next pc restart.
You should never, ever leave applications in any other way, only through File > Exit or Control+Q.

  • CS6 Bridge "Not Displaying Subject Distance Information in Exif Data"

In Bridge CS5 the "Subject Distance" information is displayed for Zoom lenses which report distance information, under the Camera Data (Exif) panel.
In Bridge CS6 either 64 or 32 bit, no "Subject Distance" information is displayed for the same files, which report this information under CS5 bridge.
I have checked that the "Subject Distance" is checked and turned on under the preferences section. Not sure if the data is either not being read or just not being displayed.

    Thanks Ian,
Read Metadata from File isn't the answer since doing this obliterates everything that has been added to the metadata since the original import, but does add the Subject Distance.  I'm using RAW (NEF) files without xmp sidecars.  If I save to xmp and then Read Metadata from File, it works.  I just hoped there might be a simpler way to get the Subject Distance into the catalogue.  I also have many jpg images in my catalogue (before I started shooting raw) and the xmp solution can't be applied to those, although I could save the metadata to the jpg files (I don't really want to do that either).  I originally started with a Nikon D50 and those images have Subject Distance in their Exif data, so the information is there for all my images, I just need an easy way to get it into the catalogue.

Have you checked that your Adobe version is compatible with your OS - 10.5.8 is a bit old; you should consider updating to Snow Leopard regardless. You can buy the retail disk at online resellers or the Apple Store for $29. It'll be at version 10.6.3 or .4; you can then update to the latest via Software Update to 10.6.8.
In the meantime, you might want to consider to also contact Adobe; ask about the compatibility and if they want to see the report.

  • Updating EXIF date/time in XML files (Bridge CS4)

Is there a way to re-read the EXIF date/time information from RAW camera files and update that existing information in the XML files?

To my knowledge not with Bridge, maybe with a script.
Basically the problem occurs while using multiple camera's that have not all the same correct date and time. To my experience the quickest way is to bite the bullet once and using the filters for date time for each dslr and apply labels to each dslr, then manual select the correct sequence and rename the whole bunch with a sequence number in front of all the filenames so you can use filename to sort the correct order.
And after this of course check next time all date and time settings before starting a new job :-)

  • How to insert EXIF date time data on photo using Photoshop CS5.5

Is there any script or function available in photoshop CS5.5 which can help me in inserting date time from EXIF onto the photograph.
An automated solution which can do multiple images at once will be preferable.

Before proceeding further, it is to be highlighted that the version being referred to is Photoshop CS5 Extended which is actually Photoshop Version 12.1 and is a part of Adobe Master Collection CS5.5. A screenshot of the version information is attached below for information.
Hence, I dont understand the concern expressed by many about the lowest version eligible for scripting being available in the product.
My version is in effect 12.1 and not 7 or 8.
Accordingly someone may advise on what script to use for inserting the EXIF data onto the image. I also want that the positioning of the text is predetermined and same for a batch of images required to be processed. I dont want to fix the position of text for each individual image.

  • Wrong EXIF data for JPEGs in Bridge and PS

    Hello,
My Nikon D300 files are not being properly read by Bridge and Photoshop. RAW files are fine. When I get file info for JPEGs, though, much of the EXIF data is corrupted. For instance, ISO Speed is shown as "51200" instead of 500, and Focal Length is shown as "2.0 mm" instead of 140mm, etc. This incorrect data shows up in Bridge (in the metadata panel and file info) as well as the file info dialog box in Photoshop.
When I get the EXIF info in Preview.app, all the info is correct.
Anyone know what might be going on?

Update - this problem is not limited to my D300 files. I just realized that the JPGs from my Canon SD800IS point & shoot are also not being "seen" properly by the Adobe apps. The ISO value doesn't even show up in CS3 apps, but I can see that data in Preview.app.

  • How to embed my name within multiple image's EXIF data at once-Bridge CS3

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for some time and just can't understand how to get my images both Raw and JPEGs to show my name in the EXIF copyright or author entry when entering it in the "File Info" dialog box so it shows up viewing EXIF data using EXIF Viewer or within Bridge CS3.
Can I get some help on this? Point me to a tutorial or something?
I've already read Bridge Help and it's worded in such a way that isn't very clear to me on how to do this.
Thank you for your help on this.

Let me see if I understand this correctly. That "Digital Workflow 1" pdf told me to uncheck all IPTC boxes which is opposite what you just said.
You are free to create the workflow that suits you, check or uncheck IPTC in Bridge prefs is only a way to organize the view in the metadata panel, not adding or deleting info from it.
So I'm suppose to enter my name in the IPTC Contact-"Creator" entry section within the "File Info" dialog box of a selected image/images within Bridge CS3 and check the IPTC boxes in the Metadata section of Bridge's Preferences dialog box to turn them on so my name I entered as "Creator" in "File Info"/IPTC can be seen in the Metadata placard Bridge work space interface but does NOT guarantee my name will be EMBEDED IN THE EXIF of the selected image/images?
As above, all info you add to IPTC and apply to an image is embedded in the exif and xmp data of that file, no matter if the boxes are checked or unchecked for visibility in metadata panel.
IOW checking the IPTC boxes in Bridge's Metadata Preferences is just for previewing within Metadata Placard work space interface in Bridge? I'm using Filmstrip view as a Bridge work space BTW.
Yes. And consider an other workspace for metadata, I attach some screenshots from my workspace I crerated myself in Bridge using the prefs and drag and drop with panels. It is from Bridge CS4 and apart from the top pathbar it is basicly the same as CS3.
Filmstrip is very nice for sorting with big preview but not the best for adding metadata. You can create as many workspace as you like and you can easily switch between them (in CS3 use the number buttons bottom right.
To actually embed my name entered as "Creator" in "File Info" IPTC section in a selected image/image's EXIF data I have to apply a custom made template to the image/images already residing on the hard drive and viewed in Bridge OR append the IPTC data within the EXIF of the image/images upon import from camera CF card reader through Bridge's "Get Photos From Camera" drop down menu. Correct?
Yes, I have choosen for the last option because now all my downloaded files have this template in it and I don't have to bother later. No matter if the files are keepers or not. You only have to create a template once. See also a screenshot from the info I filled to the template but it is up to you what you like to appear in there.
Another question, what is the difference between the "Description" section where you can enter "Author" (which would be my name) and the IPTC Contact section where you can enter "Creator" (again, my name) both within "File Info" dialog box?
check this wikipedia info about IPTC:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Press_Telecommunications_Council
Another question, I just selected a batch of images within a folder in Bridge and tried to create a Metadata Template and it shows a blank box with a statement at the bottom "Only checked properties will be added/changed to this template"...and below this "Properties selected: 0". What and where are checked properties? Does that mean I have to check the IPTC boxes in Bridge's Metadata Preferences?
Don't know that. You should first create a template without selecting multiple files. After you saved this template select the files you want to change and click on the append template option.
I have to wonder how and why another photographer would need all this nested clutter to accommodate alternate workflows on something as simple as input/output processing on a batch of images. It's beyond my understanding. This just seems way too complicated to have to sort out. Just my opinion.
Nothing is ever that simple as it seems....
