EXIF Data, iPhoto 08, Event Dates

Yo, after upgrading to iPhoto '08, I noticed that some of my events have date ranges associated with them that are not correct. For example, pictures to the pumpkin patch last October have a date range of December 31, 1999 to October 19, 2006. Of course, the last date is the date we actually went.
I tried to edit the EXIF data using the "Adjust Date and Time" feature. I've also run a date "Batch Change" setting all the dates at October 19. When I look at the photo information in the lower left hand corner, all the dates correctly say October 19. When I look at the detail after selecting "Show Photo Info," all the dates (Original Date, Digitized Date, Modified, Imported) are correctly set (none say December 31, 1999).
If I create a Smart Album asking for pix prior to Jan 1, 2000, nothing shows up.
So, it seems to me there is some date data that iPhoto is looking at in creating Events that I can't see and can't edit. Ideas?

This has been found by some to fix a bad event. Select one of the photos that show the correct dates and create a new event with it. Then drag the remaining photos into the new event.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto 11 events' dates are all messed up

Hi, my iPhoto 11 events' dates are all messed up.
I tried a solution that I found in the forum in which one should delete file com.apple.iPhoto but I don't have the said file.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Yes you do. In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
You can then find and delete the necessary preference file.

    Hi,
Sorry, we do not support a matrix-question field.   Please try the multilines text field (where your participant can enter multiple lines in the input text box) and see if it works for you.

  • IPhoto wrong event date

    Right.
So, I've recently added all my photos into iPhoto - great.
But, the problem is...all my old photos were taken on a camera that didn't set a 'Date picture taken' attribute but does have a 'Date modified' attribute (close enough anyway). But, when I add these into iPhoto - they've all got the wrong event dates. Surely iPhoto, if it couldn't find a 'date picture taken' it would have gone with 'date modified' - like picasa 3 does.
    Any help?
    Cheers,
    Tom

For future reference there's an application, PhotoInfo, that can batch change the EXIF date in photos, either by adding or subtracting a given time differential or by changing the entire date and time entirely. It would be best used on a batch of photos outside of iPhoto before importing. It's great for changing the time when you travel and take photos in a different time zone but didn't resset the camera's clock.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto 11 Event Date Question

I have a question about iPhoto 11 events.  My camera was set to the wrong date for part of an event.  I went in and did a batch change of the time and date of the affected photos.  However, the date range beneath the title of the event still has the old erroneous date, and the event gets sorted by this date range.  Is there a way to go in and change that date range under the title of the event?  I go to the event and click on info, and the event shows the correct date range for the pics, but it is not changing the date range under the title.  Thanks for any help in advance.

Thank you - I had the same problem and found your helpful answer.  However, this is actually a work around to a bug in iPhoto - it's not how the Apple Support pages say it works and common sense says that if you change all the dates in an event it should sort to the right place without being re-created.  Can you help me with one more thing - how do I bring this to Apple's attention so that they fix it in a future release?
    Thanks again for the help.

    This gives your resultset.
I've added the cte to give a newenddate because your dataset doesn't close off the previous one in all cases and gave duplicates - you can remove this if it is a mistake in the data. Also you would need to add the employee to the partition to run on multiple
    employees.

  • Changing an Event Date

I like the way Iphoto arranges photos into Events, which are displayed in date sequence.
I am about to start scanning my old slides, but I would like them to appear for example under 1971.
    How can I arrange that?

It's a little tedious but this works.
iPhoto gets these details from the  Exif of the photo. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. However, scanned images don't have Exif - and indeed, it would be off from the date of the photo if it did.
So: Scan all your 1971 images. Scan the images to a folder on the desktop. When the scanning is done, import that folder to iPhoto. An Event will be made of it but the date will be incorect.
So, in that Event select all the Photos and go Photos -> Batch Change and set the date to something in 1971. If you don't have specific dates for the particular photos, just choose a 'catch-all' Jan 1, June 30, whatever.
Now all the photos have a 1971 date, but the Event date is still wrong.
So, select all the Photos again and go Events -> Create Event

  • How to edit the date in an event

Help please, I uploaded some pictures into iphoto (I'm new to it). However they were uploaded and dated in an event automatically as 2004 and they are supposed to be 2009. Does anyone know how to change the date for events manually? I cannot figure it out. Thanks!!!

Check your camera set up - the dates iPhoto use come from it
to correct dates select the photo(s) you want to correct and adjust the time and date - iphoto menu ==> adjust date and time

  • How to use event structure of event data nodes event filter nodes in programming

    hi,
I need manual of how to use 'event structure' events of 'event data nodes' and 'event data filters'...please help me....
    Regards
    Ravindranath

I'm not really sure what you are looking for here.  Did you do a search in the LabVIEW help for Event Structure?
The Event Data Node just returns information about the event, like control data, control reference, what caused the event, etc.
The Event Data Filters are just used in Filter Events.  This allows you to discard an event or change the data that the event will recieve.

  • EBiz Business Events contain no event data

    Hi,

The event definition is set to Customization Level = Limit so i can only enable/disable the event. The Generate functions are blank and greyed out so can not be edited. I guess my question was that now i can see the event data in the <event data> tag in the .xml type form (see extract below) i was wondering whether there were any .xsd's that can be used to parse this payload data into a usable structure?

  • Iphoto recent upgrade - all Events gone. Photos there, sorted only by date. No events

Since the recent upgrade, the new iPhoto has eliminated all Events. The photos are there (I think they all are, but not sure) but there are no events, the photos are all just sorted by date (no titles/events). I had just finished organizing all Events days before the upgrade.
    Not happy with this upgrade.

    KEY WORDS: "until it's resolved"
Rest assured, the new Photos lack of ability to automatically add new photos as "Events" will be resolved in much the same way that many unwanted, unneeded, and for some users, workflow-crippling changes to Apple operating systems and related software are ever resolved:
    1. Apple will do nothing. If few people complain through the proper channels via Feedback, the product will remain as is, and users will either eventually adapt to the new organizing schemes, or will find and use another product that better fit our ways of thinking, manipulating, and organizing our digital images, all shaped by our existing libraries of images that were in iPhoto.
    -OR-
    2. If enough authentic and specific complaints (in the low millions, at least) are sent promptly and directly to Apple via Feedback, and if the complaints are precise and persistent, and continue relentlessly over a period of years, then some similar capability MIGHT be added later, in some future update, in a couple of years.  (Think OS X 10.13.1, "Ellis Island" or whatever geographic icon that future iteration might be named after. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to import their digital images directly into "Events" once again…)
(There are of course many other possible scenarios, none of which involve returning iPhoto to the marketplace, nor "fixing" Photos to be like iPhoto was.)
    Not complaining*, simply explaining.
*Because registering outrage and frustration by complaining here in Apple Support Communities does absolutely nothing to ever resolve any issue with Apple. This is a only a user community that Apple allows to exist at it's pleasure. Apple does not officially monitor or ever officially respond to feedback here, and the moderators do not tolerate rants.

  • IPhoto Events 'date range' have ALL changed by 16 yrs+

I'm very new to iMac (from Windows) and when I was editing some Events in iPhoto somehow I've managed to change all the Events to a random date range of 'now to 16yrs +'  ...  Is there a way that I can revert to the a previous version for dates of Events or will I have to copy a back-up version from Time Machine into iPhotos?  I have 6000+ photos and any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for reply .. yes, I'm talking about the Event date (I think it is in grey underneath the key photo in Event view). I think when I was updating the date range of a couple of Events (that were showing a date range back to 1993 at the time) I inadvertantly applied a new date range to ALL of my Events (not sure how I did that).
I've read a few posts about 'bugs' but I think if have the most recent update!
Some of the more recent Events I can manually amend but for those photos that are quite a few years old, it now displays a date range - in some cases up to 2028 - and I would like to be able to see the 'original' date that the photo was taken.
I am on iPhoto 11 (9.1.5) and using Lion OS.
I have checked System Preferences> Date & Time and I don't appear to have a 'custom' date/time preference.

  • How can I use "date modified" from metadata to date iphoto events?

I am very frustrated trying to move photos from windows to iMac.  I have a number of photos, all of them have some metadata with date created and date modified.  This worked well in Picasa in Windows and kept everything in order.  Now it seems iphoto will not read date modified or assigns date created (if there is no date in the metadata) as the date everything was switched over.  I looked over some of the wrongly organized photos (there are thousands) and realized that under the old sustem, Picasa in windows must have used either date created or date modified, which ever came earlier or perhaps whichever was available.  In iphoto, it doesn't read "date modified" or does this crazy thing where even if the modification date is before the creation date, puts all photos in the order or when they were brought over from windows.  I have a lot of photos dated September 18 -- thousands.
Is there any way to get either iphoto or some other program (I'm not terribly impressed by iphoto) that will properly organize the photos in an imac environment. In other words, I want a program to look at (1) creation date or (2) modification date (which-ever is earlier).
Even Picasa is now confused (in the mac envirnoment).
    Thanks,
    Mark

No, as this is file metadata not photo metadata.
You can adjust the date and time using the Photos -> Adjust Date and Time or even the Photos -> Batch Change command.

  • IPhoto ignoring Created date on imported photos

Hi. I just got my first mac three days ago, and I was excited about iLife, but I'm having some trouble.
I view a given picture in finder and see that it has "created date" of "1/4/2002 2:53 PM". However, when I import the given photo into iPhoto, the "original date" is "1/4/2000 12:46 PM". This happens whether I import from the file menu or by dragging from finder into iphoto. It does not happen with all photos, mostly ones taken with my older FujiFilm FinePix camera. I have thousands of pictures, and I can't manually correct them all. What can I do to make iPhoto correctly recognize the exif data contained within my JPEGs? Thanks for whatever insight you can provide.

Thanks for the link to the app. That's a handy little tool. In any event, it reports that the EXIF date is correct:
    Camera-Specific Properties:
    Equipment Make: FUJIFILM
    Camera Model: FinePix2400Zoom
    Camera Software: Exif Viewer Ver.1.1
    Maximum Lens Aperture: f/3.5
    Sensing Method: One-Chip Color Area
    Maker Note Version: 0130
    Image-Specific Properties:
    Image Orientation: Top, Left-Hand
    Horizontal Resolution: 72 dpi
    Vertical Resolution: 72 dpi
    Image Created: 2002:01:03 09:23:51
Nowhere in the EXIF data does the "1/4/200 12:46 PM" timestamp appear. I really don't know where iPhoto is getting it.

  • Event date does not agree with photo dates in the event

    Mavericks
    Iphoto 9.5.1
I have made a new event and put lots of genealogy pictures for one family member in it.  I changed all the photos to Jan 4, 2002.  These are docs, pics, obits, etc. Thus I have given this one person this date.  Other family names  have another date.  I modified all the original files within each event.
Beside this couples name on the "Event" label it says Jan 3, 2002 - August 23, 2014.  Therefore it shows itself in the Jan 3, 2002 group of people.  That is about 20 family groups up the page.
    I have done the following:
--Made sure that there are no pictures with the date Jan 3, 2002 in the event
--Have taken all the pictures in the event and separated them out into new events--census, certificates, pictures, obits, etc.  Thought I would trick the event to restarting!
--Did a "select-all"  of that event and created a new event--same thing.
--Closed down iPhoto and started over again.
I have no idea why the Jan 3, 2002 is showing up.  These are one side of the family.  The January 4 is the other side!
On August 23, 2014, I did take a couple of the cemetery pictures in this event.  However, they were given the new date of January 4 and Modified the original files using the checkbox.  I put the same picture in another family member's event and it is OK.  I
Hope I have given enough details.

I think I have solved it!  After much frustration and then writing for help, I was not to be stopped.  I kept looking up other helps and one person suggested that one of the pictures might be a problem.  So I tried that approach.  I made an event just out of the "possible" problem pix (the August  2014 date.)  It was not causing a problem in another event, however.   From that  event with the same pix, I exported the pix to the desktop, and then imported the pix back into iPhoto.  Then I put them into the event that was having the problem.  So far so good.  The date of the event matches all the dates of the photos.  I will now delete the "problem children."
Maybe this will help someone else.
