Exif info desappears after postprocessing in ps cs5. How to preserve it

The exif info desappears after postprocessing in ps cs5. How to preserve it ?

Photoshop and other programs can strip meta-data including EXIF data frome images for example save for web and devices has that as an option. You can use that option to make files a little smaler and keep prying eyes from being able to see your meta.  If you edit a image file stripped of metadata and and save a PSD file it will not have EXIF data.  Stitching programs may also save PSD files without Exif data for even if all the image stitched were shot using the same setting their exif data would not be the same the time stamps would at least differ.  PSD file may also be created form a new document that have images placed or pasted into it. Photoshop would not create Exif data for open new document and pasteing an image from the clipboard content would not have exif data. If you placed in images into your new document their Smart Object layer many have EXIF data if you double click on the smart object Photoshop will open the embedded object in Photoshop.  So the question you need to answer is did the PSD file ever have EXIF data. How was the PSD file created in the first place.
Why is your question in a scripting forum not the Photoshop Windows/Mac foums. Also Photoshop can be used to change images size and I do not beleive it would change any EXIF data to reflect that the image's size has been changed. Or is that what your verifying that the current images pixel size is the same as the exif pixel size. But then canvas could have been so there would ba a border around an image the may or may not have been resized.  What is it that you are trying to verify?

  • Histogram fails to show exif info

I shoot in raw, I import into lightroom by doing a sync folder. Then I edit my picture using photoshop cs6. I save it as a jpeg. Finally I export this image as a jpeg to a sub folder called Publish, which means its ready for the web.
problem is when i look at image in lightroom on the right side the histogram has no details, it wont show iso, fstop or anything.
why is all this data gone? if I look at my original RAW file i can see the exif info in the histogram but on my final exported image its all gone.
why is this and can it be fixed?
furthmore it looses all its tags and meta data, I have to copy the metadata back to this file.
it would be nice if lightroom would reinsert the meta info and exif once its reimported into lightroom.

maybe i'm doinh something wrong in my workflow. This problem only came recently when I started using LR4
I import my pictures using Nikon transfer
than I use View NX to Rename, Tag and delete what i consider bad images.
now I geotag them using a program called Geosetter.
finally i go into lightroom 4 and tell it to sync folder 2012
it finds the images with no problems.
i go into my folder ie 2012-05-05
next I stack my images, since i shoot hdr i usually end up with 5 images that are part of a bracket set.
here is where my confusion and problems begin.
i have a metadata preset already made "meta info"
it has my name, and all other details i want each image to have.
but after i sync my folder this meta info does not apply.
is there a way after a sync to make it automatically do this.
problem is i tend to forget.
so i do this manually. I high light all images on the folder than on right side panel i slect from drop down my Meta info
    it applies ok.
now i start my post work, i edit file (as original) in photoshop. do what I need and than save it as a jpeg, full rez and full size.
now i go back to lightroom where my picture i edited appears, as it does not from my photoshop editing.
but its missing exif info and meta data info also. in fact its been stripped of all data
at this point i dont know what to do
so i pick the original raw file right click and select "metadata presets" > copy
a box appears and it lets me select what fields to copy. I copy.
now i select the photoshop edited file and right click paste meata data info.
i double check and the info is good its all normal again.
    here is my dilemma
if I upload this image to flickr or the web it looks different than what it looks on my computer
i dont know why and i'm guessing is because it has lightroom adjustments to it
so my workaround is to Export this picture.
I right click and choose export to hard drive, and export with full size and res as a jpeg.
now when i upload this exported JPEG it looks identical to one on my computer but serious problem
exif and meta info have been stripped
i dont get it??? i did not tell it to do this
so i try to copy meta info from the original file but it fails
it lets me do it but info simply wont stick
i open file in windows explorer to verify and its NOT read only.
    so i'm at a loss

  • EXIF Info issue with Teleconverters

    Hello everybody,
I think I have a problem with EXIF in Aperture (version 3.4.3) on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.8.3).
For photos taken with Canon lenses plus 1.4/2.0 Canon teleconverters both Camera Info and EXIF Info are displaing all the information correctly except for the TC which is missinig. The "+1.4x/+2.0x" is not displayed after the lens model name which, as I said, is correct. This wasn't happening in the past; older photos in the same library are still showing all the proper information.
However opening raw files with Preview, under the Canon tab in the More Info Inspector, I can see the name of the lens + TC. I've checked this both for a "new" photo (not working properly in Aperture) and an "old" one (ok in Aperture); therefore I think it's not an error within the raw files.
Does anyone have an idea for that and how to fix it?
    Thank you very much.

    Dear Umang,
It is very clear that when Condiyion Type is not maintained in VD52, there is no error. Ideally, Condition Type is not to be maintained in VD52, to avoid such issues.
Hence it is advisable to convince the client that it is not recommended practise to maintain Condition Type in VD52.
It is also recommended that along with a Abaper, debug and try to identify the root cause.
It is also possible that Condition type Maintained in VD52 and in Pricing Procedure is different.

  • EXIF info in Finder and iPhoto different

When I import pictures from my Canon Powershot Pro1, iPhoto has the correct exif info, but any other program, either finder or another program called "Name those files", uses faulty exif information, namely that the creation date of the file is the import date. I like to rename my files, including the original date it was taken, and I am not able to because of this glitch, although maybe I should rename in iPhoto. I don't know.

    mevannorden:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There's a contextual menu application, PhotoToolCM 2.0, that will batch rename the files to the EXIF date -0 YYYY-MM-DD-01.jpg. You can use it before importing into iPhoto. You can also use another renaming application, like R-Name to append the additional information to the file name. You will end up with a file name like this: YYYY-MM-DD-01-your info here.jpg
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • JPEG Export = Save EXIF Infos as part of the image

Is there a way to export jpegs with some exif info (creation date and tile) which should be saved directly on the image. Like the showing of the timestamp on the picture  which can be turned on on some cameras.
Reasoin is: I want to use those pics on a digital image frame and I want to show some image data as well. As there are no options in the software of the digiframe to display exifs I have to integrate them in the pictures...
if it is not possible with lightroom then probably you can tell me another way (bridge, photoshop, ...) - just not manually...
    thanks

You can do a text overlay in the print Module and then print to JPG file.
Text overlay is done in  the "Photo Info" panel.
Print to JPG is done by selecting JPGf file under "Print to:"
For details read up in the Help menu.

  • Create Info objects after extracting ds from ecc

    Hi All,
I have replicated ds from ecc to bi and executed the infopackage. Now the data is upto psa level. How to create info objects after loading data to psa level to load the info objects to data targets like infocubes and dso. I have done to sucessfully to a flat file.
    Thank you.

    Hi Sudhir,
You can go into 2 directions: use as much as possible Business Content InfoObjects or use custom InfoObjects. A combination is also possible.
Especially in conjunction with SAP ECC extractions the Business Content InfoObjects are a safe choice. However, please consider the advantages it can have to use custom InfoObjects.
If you would like to go into the direction of custom InfoObjects, then I suggest reading the following blogs:

  • Displaying Exif info at the import screen

Is there a way to view exif info of each photo on the LR 4.2 import screen. I'd like to view Exif data before making the decision to import the capture but can't figure out how to do this. Ideally it would appear as a 'tooltip' when hovering over the image in gridview, or, when looking at a single image it using the "I" key should display image info like it does in other modules of LR4. Are there any plugins that could do that?
    Thanks!

I don't think this feature exists.
I believe the philosophy here is import the photos, then use the power of the Library Module if you want EXIF information.

  • Getting iPhoto to reread EXIF info - force rebuild of Library.iPhoto6 file?

    Hi all,
I'm a new Mac & iPhoto 6 user. I imported some photos from my camera into iPhoto. Then I realized that the timestamps on the photos were wrong - I had forgotten to change the time zone when I travelled.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way for iPhoto to add 16 hours to the timestamp for each photo.
So I used jhead to fix each photo's EXIF timestamp. (In both the Originals & Modified folders)
However, now I can't get iPhoto to reread the EXIF data from the photo. I assume that this data is stored in the Library.iPhoto6 file. I've tried just deleting the file & restarting iPhoto, but that doesn't work.
How can I force iPhoto to rebuild the Library.iPhoto6 file?
    G4 Powerbook 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   iLife 6

Thanks for your help, but I'm afraid that neither response solves the problem!
    1. jhead can indeed batch change the date. I used it to change the timestamps on all of the photos in my Modified & Originals folders. I can also verify that the EXIF info in the files themselves has been updated.
    2. Holding down command & option when you start iPhoto does indeed let you rebuild some of the internal information. Unfortunately, it does not solve this problem either. iPhoto does not rebuild its EXIF info in Library.iPhoto6 when you start it up in this fashion.
    3. Deleting the Library.iPhoto6 file doesn't work. When iPhoto is started, it thinks that it doesn't have any photos. So you then have to reimport everything.
Is there no way to get iPhoto to rebuild that file? Reimporting everything would be extraordinarily tedious.
    Cheers,
    Andy

  • Problem transferring white balance Exif info from iPhoto to Aperture

I originally posted this question on the Aperture discussions page, but it was suggested to me that maybe I should try asking it on the iPhoto page as well.
I want to transfer my iPhoto library over to Aperture, but am reluctant to do so until I have familiarised myself with the new program. (I have over 23,000 photos in iPhoto.)
As a start, I have imported a few of my recent photos from iPhoto so that I can find my way around Aperture. One thing puzzles me. I can see the white balance information for each photo in iPhoto but the white balance field is greyed out in the Aperture metadata, and there is no 'cloud' or 'sun' picture at the top right of the Info panel, even though the white balance field is ticked in the Metadata Fields panels for Exif Info and Camera Info. I really need to know which camera setting I used for each photo to help me learn how to take better photos, but as far as I can see the information is not available to me anywhere in Aperture.
I have performed Aperture Library First Aid (repaired permissions and database, and rebuilt database) but the problem still exists. At the suggestion of someone on the Aperture page I have also created a new Aperture library and then imported some original photos from iPhoto which I exported to the desktop and then into the new Aperture library. I had the same problem, with no white balance information showing. That's when I was advised to try the iPhoto discussions page as well!
Does anyone have any ideas for me please?

Well, Terence, it duly showed up the white balance data when I shot a Raw photo. But I don't understand why Aperture recognises white balance for Raw but won't show it for Jpegs, whereas iPhoto recognises both.

on same drive as OS X (and OS X was and is running Leopard and not SL or Lion)
Only CD #1 I can think of is XP SP2?
Well, that is what backups are for, system restore image, WinRE CD (WinRE3 is latest).
XP: reinstalls I've read pretty much had to be done twice a year to keep Registry and system running properly.
Malware? maybe not current or something.
Was low on disk space and now has issues
Not sure why "it" won't be accepted.
With Mac Pro, pull all the drives anyway other than the one with Windows and use Windows 7 Pro (dual cpu sockets, 64-bit).
Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 with EFI32 do have issues with booting and installing 64-bit Windows.

  • EXIF info as watermark at export

Does the current 4.?? (or 5) provide a way of including selected EXIF info as text on the image at export ?
I want to place lens and exposure info on each image as plain text. Years ago folks suggested Morgrify but that
    no longer works.
    thanks, Larny

My Mogrify 2 plugin works fine for me and is recognized in my LR 5 upgrade. See attached screen shot.

  • IPhoto cuts EXIF info when eksporting ?

I've encountered a slight problem with iPhoto. It seems when i import a RAW picture (Nikon NEF file) directly into iPhoto from the SD card, and then drag/drop the picture from iPhoto to my desktop, iPhoto converts the picture from RAW to JPEG (which is fine) but it also cuts a lot of the EXIF information.
The RAW file has all the EXIF info before entering iPhoto and getting converted to JPEG - but somewhere along the line in iPhoto, a lot of the information is lost.
-Is this a well know 'feature' in iPhoto? Or am i exporting to jpeg in the wrong manner (if i want preserve all EXIF info)?

The User Comment field in the Exif was designed for use with Tiff files and is deprecated now.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/780507
Modern practise would expect to find that in the IPTC core data. "Aperature" (or Aperture as it's more commonly called) supports IPTC Core.
iPhoto never claimed access to all Exif or IPTC metadata. It's an app aimd squarely at the home user with a point and shoot camera
