Existance of a Shared Library on my iTunes

I now have a new computer and I have installed iTunes 7 on it. For some reason I am unaware of, I have under the SHARED section something called 'feuerbac's Library'. I don't know how it got there. I can delete it because when I click on it, I am asked for a password.
I don't know any 'feuerbac' and have never tried, on this new computer or my old computer, tried to share my iTunes with any one.

You're seeing the shared iTunes library from some other computer on your local network. Go into the iTunes Sharing preference and turn off "look for shared music". If you don't want to similarly be sharing your iTunes library with other computers, make sure that the "Share My Music" option is unchecked.

  • TRYING TO SYNC A SHARED LIBRARY WITH LOCAL ITUNES LIBRARY - PLEASE HELP

Hi. I am so desperate. I have not been able to update my iPod for 6 months and am about to go OS and would love to download all my recent music.
The prob is that all our music is in a Shared iTunes library (called iTunes server, on my husband's computer. We are networked). There is not much in my local iTunes library. I am trying to drag all the music from the Shared iTunes library into my local iTunes library but am having no luck.
Does anyone know how I can make my local iTunes library reflect what's in our shared library? Once I work that out then we can do the same and update my husband's local iTunes library, which is where I update my iPod from (since mine is a work computer and has no USB access). Thanks alot if you can help... DESPERATE

When iTunes Match is is on, you don't sync music or playlists with your computer.

  • Why won't my iTunes home sharing library load in iTunes 10.5.1 on OS Lion?

Home sharing isn't working for me anymore, my shared library just continues to sit in the 'loading' phase and I cant see the my homeshare on any other idevice. C'mon Apple whatever happened to 'It just works'?

So many views on this post yet no helpful reply says that there is no good answer to this problem yet. I've gone through similar threads and tried ALL the suggested fixes. Nothing has worked. My ringtones are missing from my iphone now too. I was looking forward to upgrading to OSi 5, but I can't upgrade until I can backup and sync my iphone!  Come on!  Help!

  • Sharing library over network / iTunes won't launch

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro. It's great. My itunes library is stored on a firewire drive which is connected to a Powerbook elsewhere on my network. I would like to load up the iTunes library from that machine rather than store it on my MacBook for space reasons.
First question is: What's the best way to do that?
I had it working by making a link (using ln in the terminal) from ~/Music/iTunes to the remote volume (/Volumes/Disk/iTunes) and that worked great. However I just accidentally launched iTunes without having that disk mounted. It presented an error and went away.
Now with the disk mounted, I can run iTunes but the main window never appears, and it is always "not responding" in the force quit window. (It does however mount any connected iPods which seems odd.) I've removed the link to the remote drive, deleted all traces of iTunes, and reinstalled, but nothing's changed.
    Any advice?

    Endquote,
This may sound simple, but have you tried to delete the .plist file associated with iTunes?
What's interesting, if I've found the right file, is that its not a standard .plist file. Apple calls it "iTunes Music Library.xml" and its in the active iTunes folder. This file seems to contain data about your library and I'm not sure if iTunes will rebuild it so back the file up before you delete it. Simply renaming it should suffice.
Please post back and let the community know if this worked. I only have one system right now, but you may consider for multiple systems to keep the Library local to the mac and use iBackUp to keep things in sync. This way you have multiple copies in case something should go south on one of the disks your music collection is on.

  • HT3819 Does anyone get an unknown library under their shared libraries on the ITunes desktop?

I have never turned on sharing and have a secure home network yet somehow I have a shared library under my ITunes desktop that I would appear to have access to.  This seems really strange.  Anyone seen this before?

I have never heard of a virus that is transmitted via a shared library.
What you are seeing is regular sharing, not Home Sharing.  Regular sharing allows listening, but not copying.  There is a short description here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12350

  • Troubles syncing photos from a shared library..

    Hello,
When I try to sync photo's to my ipod touch from a iPhoto library that is shared in a folder within the "Users" directory - I get an error that says "You cannot sync your ipod touch as you do not have enough privileges ..." or something very similar.
I used to sync my own iPhoto library without issue and I think (but cannot be sure) that the issue arose when I went to a shared library.
I am pretty sure it is the photos that are creating the problem as when I turn off the option to sync photos all other sync processes complete without error.
I have repaired permissions on my disk (twice)
I have restored my ipod touch once
I have checked to see that permissions are set correctly on the iTunes library.
None of this has solved the problem. One other note of interest, even though the sync is not completing properly my Macbook is seeing the structure of the library file as my sync options mirror the events and folder structure that exists within the shared library.
I hope someone can help and I welcome any direction or suggestions.
I have checked the permissions on the actual library and

I got the same problem with a shared iPhoto library which was created according to
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
However, when I deleted the iPod Photo Cache as suggested, the problem still occurred to standard users (my wife and son), but not my account (admin). I checked the folder privilege after it was created after deletion and found that "everyone" shown "read only", not "read and write". Even manually change it to "read and write" cannot solve the problem.
    Any idea?
N.B. The iPhoto library can be shared among different users on my iMac without problem.

  • How do you import all songs from a shared library?

I have 862 songs in my iTunes library on the family computer, and i would like to transfer them to my iTunes on my laptop. I already have home sharing on, and I can see the shared library on the iTunes on my laptop, but is there a way i can transfer all the songs from the shared library to the iTunes on my laptop without having to import each song on its own? Thank you in advance.

what you want to see in iTunes is this (view from my iMac's iTunes seeing the library on my Mini)
once the homeshared library has loaded, two buttons will appear in the lower right corner of the iTunes window, being settings and import.
now you should be able to import any content from any shared library by selecting (highlighting) it and clicking the import button.
via settings, you can select which newly purchased content is transferred automatically to homeshared libraries

  • Sync movie in Shared Library to IPhone

I can see movies in a shared library (not the ITunes library on this laptop), but can't get those movies to sync to the IPhone. Only the movies on the local laptop are syncing. And when I try to move from the old library to the iphone to the new laptop, then back to the iphone, it doesn't work. Tips? Ideas?

    Figured it out. Duh.

  • Account Dim in Shared Library doesn't have CustomXTopMember or EnableCustomXAggregation Properties

We are upgrading from 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.3.500. We use the Shared Library for our HFM application. In 11.1.2.3.500, there are no options for EnableCustomXTopMember or EnableCustomXAggregation (where X is the number of the Custom dimension IE Custom 1, Custom 2, Custom 3, Custom 4).
In the local account dimension in the new version, it does have these properties.
In the shared account dimension in the old version, it does have these properties.
In the shared account dimension in the new version, it does not have these properties.
In the new version, I had to copy the account dimension from the application to get the Dimension Associations to create in the Shared Library, but even with the Dimension Associations created, we still do not see the properties in the Shared Library.
We do have our Custom dimensions setup in the Shared Library.
We have tried importing via LCM and Import Profiles, but LCM gives us errors and warnings that it cannot associate the property with the dimension:
"There was a error processing the dimension association for the base dimension 'Account', target dimension 'Custom1'; please make sure that the target dimension exist or is included in the dimension section of the import source.  Member properties for this association will not be processed."
Any ideas on why the properties do not exist in the Shared Library and will not import or copy into the Shared Library in 11.1.2.3.500?
    Here are some screenshots:
    Thanks,

    Hi Steve,
I have encountered the same problem too.
As a workaround, start creating a dummy application with the shared dimensions of the new version. This will create the associations. After that, you can delete the application.
    Cheers,

  • Shared library, 2 iPhones, 1 MBP... I struggle

I have a MBP running iTunes 10. We have two iPhones (iPhone 4, 3g). To avoid sync conflicts we created two accounts on the computer (not just two iTunes accounts, but two computer accounts.... Like the screen rotates to log-in the other person.) When I sync the iPhone 4 to the main account, all is good.
When I go to the second account, I open iTunes 10 and there's the shared music library. I try to drag music from the shared music library to the second iPhone (the 3g) but it won't go. I can select the music, but when I drag it over the iPhone 3g icon, it makes no attempt to copy the music.
    Suggestions?
    Many thanks.

That helps, but I'm still hoping to find a solution using the setup I describe. With the two iphones, we had a "situation" once where the contacts on her iPhone replaced the contacts on my iPhone. I'm sure that was related to the sync settings I had established (not a software error) but to avoid a similar episode in the future, we decided to use a second account on the computer.
So... I discovered that if I drag music from the shared library to the iTunes library, she can then transfer the music to her phone. But that seems to create a second copy of the music on the computer and eats hard-disk space. Any way to drag directly from the shared library to the iPhone?
Thanks and appreciative of your suggestions.

  • Strange shared library?

I suddenly have a "shared library" on my iTunes page with a name I don't recognize. No clue where it came from or how to make it go away. Help?

Hey Chris... I am running iTunes 10.7 and am having the same issue others have reported in this post (unknown libraries suddenly showing up). I checked the Preferences, but do not see an option to uncheck "look for shared libraries". Any suggestions?

  • Sharing two or more iTunes library

    Hello,
I have just bought an Apple TV2, but I have all my films in an external hard drive.
I have created a new iTunes Library on the external drive, and I tried to make a second shared library (my Mac and now the external hard drive). How can I see both libraries in the Apple TV, so I can have the music and all videos and films?
Is it possible to share more than one iTunes library in the same Apple account?
How can I solve my problem? Put all the iTunes stuff in the new library (external drive)?
If its the only way, how can I export the actual mac iTunes Library, to the external drive?
    Best regards
    Tiago B

You can only view one iTunes library at a time on Apple TV. So moving all your iTunes files to one library would enable you to view all your music, videos, and films.
    http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/easiest-move-itunes-library-external-drive/
To move your collections to another location, open iTunes “Preferences”. Use the menu “Edit – Preferences” (Windows) or “iTunes – Preferences” (Mac). You can also use the shortcut key combination: “Ctrl + Comma” (Windows) or “Command + Comma” (Mac).
Go to the “Advanced” tab and click the “Change” button for “iTunes Media folder location“. While you are at it, check the “Keep iTunes Media folder organized” and “Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library” boxes.
Browse to the new location where you want to put your collection. Create a new folder if you have to.
After you click “Create“, iTunes will update the library.
Now you have assigned a new location to store your collection, but the multimedia files are still in the old location. To move them to the new location, you have to consolidate them. Go to “File – Library – Organize Library” menu (similar under both Windows and Mac).
Check the “Consolidate files” box and click “OK“. If you’ve organized your files in the iTunes Music folder before, the second box will be greyed out.
Then the waiting game will begin – iTunes will copy all the files inside the iTunes Music folder to the new location. The process could take a while depending on how large your collection is.
Now that your collection is safely stored in the external hard drive (or another location that you chose), you can delete (some of) the files at the old location to free up some space in your hard drive. You can keep your favorite songs/movies so you still can play them even without the external drive.
Another point to remember: Even though the multimedia files are in the external drive, iTunes stores the information about them in the iTunes Library file in your local hard drive. So don’t delete the iTunes Library file.
    What Will Happen Now?
With a larger empty space in your laptop’s internal hard drive, you are convinced that moving your multimedia collection out was a good idea. But you also realize that bringing an external hard drive everywhere you go is a bit impractical. The question is, what will happen if you open iTunes on your laptop while the external drive is unplugged? You will get this error message every time you want to play a file that doesn’t exist in the local hard drive. Then an exclamation mark will appear next to the item.If you still keep the items that you want to play inside the local drive, click “Locate“, browse to the location, and you can play them without any problem. If not, click “Cancel“. You don’t have to do anything because this issue will be automatically resolved the next time you plug in the hard drive. If you add new music or movies during the unplugged period, you can always consolidate those files to the external storage later.Another possible path to take is to create another iTunes library for your local multimedia files. You can do this by holding the “Alt” button when you open iTunes, You will have the option to create a new library.
Give a specific name to the library so that you can easily tell the difference between the one that points to the local files and the one that points to files stored in the external drive.
Pressing “Alt” while opening iTunes will also let you switch between iTunes Libraries easily.

  • ITunes Shared Library Password

Sometime ago, I created a 'Shared Library' of all my music and password protected it.
I have lost / forgotten the password. Now I cant access the shared library. Is there a way to recover/change the password to the shared library or delete the existing library and set up a new shared library?
    FYI:
The shared library was set up on iTunes 9 via a Windows XP machine.
The shared library shows on the 'Shared' list, but can't access due to password issue.
    Hope someone can help.

If you are using home sharing within iTunes then you should be using your iTunes account and password to enable the sharing. I've used it to copy iTunes purchases and my copied CDs between computers.

  • ITunes can't connect to shared library UNLESS it's manually connected?

this is a problem i've been monkeying with off and on for nearly a year now, but haven't ever found a solution for.
What I am specifically looking for is a way to connect to a shared library on my local network but do so without having to physically click the library to connect it. Everything that I've found has worked after the library has been connected, but I can't find a solution that actually connects to the library.
I've asked doug at doug's applescripts for help... he had no answer.
i've asked hanaan rosenthal (author of a few applescript books) for help.. he had no answer.
    i've posted a few times on macscripter.net ( http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=35511 ) ... nobody had an answer.
i've dug around the apple discussion boards (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2324452) and found similar questions, but there were no satisfactory answers...
both of the following scripts work when the library is already connected but fail when it's not... how can i get it to work every time...
    activate application "iTunes"
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "iTunes"
get the value of static text 1 of row 17 of outline 1 of scroll area 2 of window 1
    end tell
    end tell
    tell application "iTunes"
    activate
repeat with theSource in every source
if name of theSource as text is "MY SHARED LIBRARY" then
set theLibrary to user playlist "MY SHARED PLAYLIST" of theSource
    end if
    end repeat
    tell theLibrary
    set shuffle to true
    set song repeat to all
    end tell
    play some track of theLibrary
    end tell
any help would be very much appreciated.

this new format has erased my response twice now and is kinda ******* me off. grrrr.
the gist of my previous two posts (they were much better explained/phrased).
THANK you very much.  you very quickly answered a question that I had spent a fair amount of time looking for an answer to.
the code worked beautifully when i ran it by itself, but when i paired it with the rest of the code i wrote for this little project my follow up code never executed...   i'm not sure if this is because of something in the handler/subroutine code or because the whole thing runs as an Automator application.
the edited code isn't as elegant, but it does the job I needed it to.  Thank you very much for that.
    tell application "iTunes"
      activate
              set sound volume to 100
tell front browser window to if minimized then set minimized to false
tell application "System Events" to tell scroll area 2 of window 1 of process "iTunes"
tell (first row of outline 1 whose value of it's static text 1 is "MY SHARED LIBRARY")
                                  set b to exists
if b then select -- connect
                                  delay 2
                        end tell
              end tell
tell source "MY SHARED LIBRARY" to if exists then
tell user playlist "MY SHARED PLAYLIST" to if exists then
                                  set shuffle to true
                                  set song repeat to all
                                  play some track
                        end if
              end if
    end tell

  • Remote app on iPad2 not showing iTunes interface on ATV2 shared library

I have an AppleTV 2 that's sharing an iTunes library via home sharing over Ethernet from a Mac Mini. Running Remote App on my iPhone 5S, I can control that library as expected. Running Remote App on my iPad2, however, I'm unable to see the main iTunes-like interface that lists songs, albums, artists, etc. on the shared library. While I can see the currently playing song at the top of the screen and have access to the Back, Pause, and Forward buttons, the main pane below that only shows the icons for Home Sharing and Using Gestures. Under Home Sharing, where it says "Tap the Apple TV button in the bottom left...," there's not Apple TV button, only "Devices." I can use the gestures interface in Remote App on the iPad2 to control playback, but I never see the main library interface. Any thoughts you have for remedying this would be really appreciated!

Well the response I got to the above post was outstanding!
Shall we put this in the bracket along with "If a tree falls in the forest with no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?"
If anyone is wondering, for my party I ended up using my Mac as the server for the iTunes DJ. And I discovered that if more than 5-7 people try to get onto it, it crashes the whole system and the music stops. Glorious.
