Existing APEX: Migration to new host/database
We'll be migrating the database containing our APEX install to a new host and new database. As long as all of the objects, views, etc. are copied from the present location where APEX resides, will there be any special considerations we need to factor in for the transition to go smoothly? Also, would APEX need to be reinstalled on the new database, or will copying the objects suffice? Obviously, our intent is to avoid recreating our applications within APEX. Any insight would be appreciated.
Jason,
You can do a full database export and import (I think that means all schemas) or just do selective ones. For Application Express that would be FLOWS_030000 for versions 3.x, FLOWS_FILES, and APEX_PUBLIC_USER. If you do that you'll have to generate and run a script to grant privileges from SYS as described here: Re: 404 error after restoring the database
Another approach would be to simply reinstall Application Express. From your old database use the apex workspace export for each of your workspaces and gather those export files. Then use the apex workspace import pages to import those workspaces in the new instance. Then do the same for all of your applications, i.e., login to each workspace as an admin, export each application, then repeat this on the new instance but import/install each application into each workspace. This can be tedious.
I hope others will offer their recommendations about this. It sort of depends on how many workspaces and apps you already have.

Movig MR from existing RAC db to new standalone database
Hi,
I installed MRCA and created MR on existing RAC database. (Sun X86)
I installed application server by using that MR on RAC database.
Now this application server Portal as middle tier went alive.
Now I would like to MR from existing RAC database to newly installed standalone database.(Sun SPARC 64)
Is it possible0? If yes, how? If no, Why?
source db platform is Sun X86 and destination db platform is Sun SPARC64.
Source db is using ASM file system and destination db is using normal filesystem.
After the move, my application server should work. (Because this is production system).Hi Roberto Barrera,
I’m sorry for the way I posted my queries.
The document you suggested me is really useful but I want to make sure this document will surely applicable for my case. Our concern is to move the entire database which is also MR for Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.3.0. Let me explain you more about our architecture.
Dbnode1& dbnode2 (Sun X86 – OS: Sun Solaris 10)
We have two node RAC db and created MR on that db by MRCA. (Oracle home 1)
We installed Oracle AS Infra tier Identity Manager. (including OID, HA, DIP but excluding SSO component) (oracle home 2)
Midnode-1 & Midnode2 (Sun X86- OS: Sun Solaris 10)
We installed Oracle AS Infra tier Identity Manager. (Including SSO, HA, DIP but excluding OID) (oracle home 1)
We installed Oracle AS Middle tier (Portal and wireless services). (Including Web cache and Portal along with default component j2ee, http) (Oracle home 2)
We need to move whatever running on dbnode1 and 2 to another couple of Sun SPARC64 – OS: Sun Solaris 10 machines. We know binary migration is not possible between X86 and SPARC64. Therefore, I have installed a new database with SPARC64 installation media and created fresh MR by running runRepca.sh script. In one of the document Oracle recommend to do RMAN backup to move entire data from existing (original) database to new (target) database.

(Oracle® Application Server Administrator's Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) B13995-08)
Chapter 9 Changing Infrastructure Services
9.6 Changing the Metadata Repository Used by Identity Management
In this procedure, new database also must use the same Oracle home, datafile location, SID, and global database name as the original Metadata Repositorys. Our newly installed database is not RAC database with ASM but this is standalone database on qfs file system. We could not create database with the same datafile location as the original MR.
• Can we do full database export/import? (your document only talking about portal schema but in my MR there are around 60 schemas related with MR and we need to import all the schemas)
• Is there any other possible solution for case?
Thanks in Advance :)

SLD/JCo Migration to new host
Dear Experts,
I have gone through many posts but still not able to understand fully the procedure to migrate SLD from one host to another. So its my humble request you to read my issue and guide me.
We have a situation that we have moved from physical to virtual host on our SLD. But when I shutdown the previous host, my ESS/MSS on Portal stops functioning.
My Landscape is : Portal 7.1 - Old SLD -- Was serving as both Solution Manager and SLD (for around 20-30 systems)
Now we want to move the OLD SLD to a new host, -- New SLD -- Will serve as SLD for all systems.
There is one production Portal system which has ESS/MSS with Jco's, it is currently pointing to OLD SLD. When I login to OLD SLD and search for my Production Portal, I can see that it has few Jco Destinations and few "deployed objects" as shown in screenshot below
These are the steps I have followed in my new SLD.
1. Went to Visual Admin of my Portal system -- Changed SLD Data Supplier (CIM) to NEW SLD. Restarted Portal
2. Logged in to new SLD and created JCO Destinations (exactly same as in OLD SLD)
This is my NEW SLD, I cant see the "deployed objects" but i have created the JCO destinations (manually)
But then, I am getting errors in ESS/MSS Applications for Jco related.
Can someone please help me in figuring out what I am missing ??
1. Importing CIM data in new SLD from old SLD ??
Any guidance on this will be helpful.
Thanks,Hi Rajat,
Take a look at More on System Landscape Directory. There are several blogs there that talk about migrating from one SLD to another. (Especially Switching between 2 SLD Systems in Sync with an LMDB or a 3rd SLD).
It sounds to me like you changed the setup for the data supplier side, (so your new SLD has the correct data) but you haven't changed the SLD-client setup of the portal (so your portal doesn't know to look at the new SLD for data). Take a look at this SAP help document, Synchronizing the System Landscape Directory with the Portal, and see if you can find what you need there.
I hope this helps!
Best regards,

I need to migrate existing 12c OMS host only from smaller resource host to large resource host with the same repository database. From all the docs I have understood to follow below steps:
1.Shutdown OMS on existing host
2.Install OMS on new host with connection details to the same repository db
3.Migrate all agents to point to new OMS by modifying the <AGENT_HOME>/sysman/emd.properties file
If anybody has performed similar OMS migration please let me know if this is the right approach or I am missing any steps?
Thanks in advance
AmitHi Venkat,
I am now proceedin with the migration of OMS, going through the list of steps, I was not actually able to get Step 7 in the doc link you provided:
======================================================================================================================
7.In the Cloud Control console, locate the 'WebLogic Domain' target for the Cloud Control Domain. Go to 'Monitoring Credentials' and update the adminserver host to host B. Then do a Refresh Weblogic Domain to reconfigure the domain with new hosts.
======================================================================================================================
I tried to explore the "monitoring credentials" option but it seems to be something different but not sure I went to the Weblogic console where it has the option of lock&edit and change the admin server host. Do you know am I at the right place?
Thanks

How to migrate existing OID user to new OID
Hi all,
How do i migrate all existing OID username to new OID server?
Do i also need to migrate their password?
Assume i'm using oracle database version 10.2.0.2.0 and how to i know which Oracle Application Server and OID version are certify to Oracle Database version 10.2.0.2.0. Please also let's me know where i can find more detail about this.
Thanks in advance,
KevinKevin,
export/import can be done using ldifwrite/bulkload see Backup and Restoration of a Directory (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28196_01/idmanage.1014/b15991/backup_restore.htm#i1006559)
or use ldapsearch/ldapadd
It's up to you to export/import the userpassword. If you want to force them to create a new password using the new server don't import the password.
w.r.t. certification you'll need to check the certification matrix found at the bottom of the download section of respective product. e.g. Oracle Application Server 10g R3 (10.1.4) contains OID 10.1.4 here you'll find the link to the certification matrix.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/idm_certification_101401.html
or you search for certification and the product version number
Using a pre-existing DB with OID requires to use RepCA to create the metadata repository into this existing DB before you can point the Oracle Installer during installation to use the then existing MetaData Repository.
RepCA has dependencies on the DB version to be used. See Oracle Application Server Metadata Repository Creation Assistant Documentation
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28196_01/getstart.htm

Move Portal Database to New Host
Hi,
We currently have EP7.0 installed and running on a single host. We are running a DB2 database on AIX and would like to move just the database to a different host.
Can anyone advise the process by which we can do this?
Thanks,Hi Michael,
Not sure about AIX & DB2, but for Windows & MS SQL the next steps should be performed:
1) Shut down J2EE and move backup of DB on the new host;
2) Run ..\usr\sap\F12\JC30\j2ee\configtool\configtool.bat and change DB parameters here;
3) Start J2EE.
In your case I think will be the same.
Regards,
Andrei -
I had to change the details of my mail accounts to the new mail server details of the new host and also the port. All files have been deleted off the previous server.
I did have a lot of folders with emails stored and I can access these through the mail option on my new host's cpanel. However, they have disappeared from my still existing version of TB that I have running on my PC.
I did do a back up copy a few weeks ago but I don't know how to reinstall that. I also figure if it exists on the new server / host, there may be a way to 'pull them back in' to my existing profile?
Thanks in advance for any help :-)
KymI'd suggest to check with your service provider about their IMAP server. It's functionality may be limited, or you may need to configure something on the server.

Restore Database with Oracle 9i with a New Host using RMAN
Gurus,
I am trying to restore a database from some RMAN created files on a new host with a new directory structure for some testing. I do not have access to the source database.
The database is Oracle 9i.
The files that have been created are the following:
'C-2995630462-20110214-00' is the control file and SP file backup.
'B_ABM4KAJ5_1_1' is the database backup.
B_ACM4KARS_1_1 and B_AAM4KAIV_1_1 are archived redo logs
Here is the RMAN listing from when the files were created:

I am new to using RMAN and I'm hoping someone could point me in a direction of some documentation to assist with the scenario described above. I've looked at several Oracle documents but have been unable to find a way to separate out the spfile from the control file.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Thanks Meeran.
I have attempted to follow the directions from the RMAN document that you posted and have run into the following error:

In an attempt to move a DSEE 6.3 instance I inherited to a new host without having to do a fresh install (as I did not do the initial install and have no documentation on how it was done) I copied our /opt/ldap install directory from hostname auth01 to hostname uauth01. I made what I thought were all the appropriate 'find and replace' changes in the dse.ldif files for the DSC and ldap instances, but nothing being as easy as it sounds, I get this when trying to start up. Can I rename the certificate or how do I replace it ? I will appreciate any help or advice.

[HELP] Problem with restore and recovery to new host
Hi, guys!
I have been trying for two days, but still cannot get it to work.
I have taken a full hot(online) backup with archive logs as well as the control file and SPFILE, and then copied the backup to the new host with the same directory structure and settings. Finally, I have tried to restore & recover the database on the new host but failed during the restore process.
Both the original host and the new host have the same Oracle installed down to the patch level. I couldn't figure out the proper solution to this problem base on my limited knowledge about Oracle DB.
Could anyone help me out here? Any advice would be appreciated!

Creating a new access database using JDBC
Hi Forum,
I have a problem in hand. Let me describe the problem:
I want to create an "access database" from java at runtime. "Access database" is file based, so for a database named test, it will have a file test.mdb.
Now, everything's sweet and wonderful, if somebody creates an "empty access database" at the client machine and i then connect to it and create the tables i require.
But the issue is i want to create the database at runtime (the database name and tables are determined at runtime).
Using the JDBC:ODBC bridge driver , i am able to connect to an existing database, but any "create database" statements are not supported.
A last ditch solution would be that i create an empty database using access and copy the file contents in the SQL server database as a a blob object. Then when i want to create a new access database at runtime, i create a file in a particular folder , with an .mdb
extension, copy the file contents from the SQL server (i also have an SQL server connection) BLOB object, and then try to connect to the
.mdb file.
But this approach seems a "quick hack" and can have problems (which i can't see as of now).
Can you suggest a better alternative for the problem.
See the Java Sun forum at this address for a discussion of a similar problem, but sadly with no solution.
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=31&threadID=484731I have an applet that was previously connected to Oracle 9i. I am faced with connecting to MS Access temporarily for testing purposes.
I have been unable to successfully code connection in java. I have set up the DSN and can access in SQL Worksheet in JDev.
I saw your question regarding creating an access db, and thought you might be so kind as to help me code the connection to access!!!!
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I have a huge application to finish with alot of sqlj already completed. Connectivity is not my area of expertise!
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!
I am not sure if I have to use bridge? Am I progressing in right direction to migrating to SQL Server if need be? -
Hello,
I have APEX installed already in my database and currently it's catering 2 schemas, say schema1 and schema2. Schema2 has been dropped now and new Schema3 has been created.
I changed dads.conf file and pointed to new schema, Schema3, restarted HTTP server but when trying to access URL I am getting
Error 403: Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /pls/apex_1/apex_admin on this server.
Also upon checking the log file, i could see ORA-1017 error which means apex_public_user doesn't exist in Schema3. So just wondering do I need to go for another installation of APEX or there is other better alternative.
Regards
PankajHello Jari,
I think my last post was not that clear. Here I am not referring to apex internal schemas.
Below is dads.conf which includes two different database, database1 and database3(new).
APEX url for database1 is working fine but I am getting error 403 for database3 as it's newly created.
So My question is how an existing APEX configuration works for new Database.
