Existing Dreamweaver templates on Joomla website

Hello,
I created a website using Dreamweaver templates for my client. The department website I created uses Dreamweaver (CS3) and the rest of the departments websites are using Joomla (I was told this after the fact). My questions are:
1.     Will this create a problem or conflict?  I was thinking I could upload my Templates and department folder directly using my FTP program.
2.     I noticed there already is a "templates" folder with some folders and an index.html file. So, if I upload my files, will my files conflict because mine refer to "Templates" and the root folder is called "templates".
Any help on how to handle this would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,
MonaE

Can you post a link to the PHP page, please? This will allow
me to see the
HTML markup on it....

  • Is there a way to make an HTML or CSS Dreamweaver template (not a website template)?

This might be confusing. I'm not looking for a way to create a website template but a layout/DocType template that has an HTML skeleton in place. The reason I'm asking is that I do a lot of email designs in Dreamweaver and I want to get a template in place but all I've found are these time-consuming website template tutorials that don't serve my needs.
What I want is to be able to create something like the DW's default DocType templates that have the initial <html><head></head><body></body></html> etc.... because I can then just start adding in content and change the HTML/CSS attributes (emails require a lot of inline css) as needed.
So far, I've been using an HTML document that I'd like to make into a template but sometimes I end up saving over it and then have to recreate it...which gets old real fast. This is why having an initial template would eliminate the worry of saving over my makeshift HTML template. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks for the help!

Snippets is a good idea. But you can also do this with a template. Each time you use FILE | New > Page from Template, as you would to create a new child page, you have the option to enable or disable an option called "Update page when template changes". If that option is DISABLED (i.e., unchecked), then the child page will be created but with NO TEMPLATE MARKUP (i.e., no editable/non-editable regions)! Seems that's exactly what you want, no?

  • Free Dreamweaver templates related to photography (fullscreen) see 2 example websites?

    Hi,
I'm a photographer and I downloaded some Dreamweaver template packs but they are all related to usual corporates, pity enough nothing related to photography.
Can anyone recommend templates or a template pack (freeware) related to photography?
By this I mean almost fullscreen to present the pics as they are supposed to), examples : http://www.haringphotography.com/?splash=1 or http://www.sandernagel.nl/photo/commissioned/portraits_various/374
I have the pictures but not the templates....
I don't know anything about programming, it may be html or other format html5,... (as I heard that other formats will be for the future, just like flash that gets less interesting)
This to relace my more amateurish looking free Wix website
Maybe there are websites with free dreamweaver templates where you can see a picture of the examples ?
    Thanks!!!

WordPress is a dynamic site.  It needs PHP and a connection to a MySql database to run.  Unless you have a local testing server (WAMP or XAMPP) installed on your computer, you won't see local content in your browser.
WordPress consists of 800+ files in 80+ folders.  Strangely enough, none of those files are complete pages.  They are all just bits of code which the web server assembles and combines with content from the database.  In short, there are no real web pages.  WordPress is a virtual site; basically a one page site that is created on the fly by the web server.   This is a difficult concept for people who are accustomed to working with static HTML pages.
Unless you're a skilled coder, you must not edit the WordPress core files in DW or you will break the site.   The only things you can safely edit in Code View are the Theme files:
    WP/wp-content/themes/theme_name/page.php
    WP/wp-content/themes/theme_name/header.php
    WP/wp-content/themes/theme_name/index.php
    WP/wp-content/themes/theme_name/footer.php
    etc...
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Templates
If you're not experienced with code, don't waste time trying to modify your WP theme in DW.  Simply install WP on your server and have a go at it...
InMotion and other reputable web hosts have apps to simplify WordPress installation.  You can invoke the install wizard by logging in to your server's C-Panel and pressing a button.
    Good luck!

  • NEW! Free Dreamweaver templates WITH Fireworks vector files

I just released some free Dreamweaver templates that include
not only the Dreamweaver template dwt file, but also the original
pre-sliced Fireworks file with all the template graphics.
The templates include the dwt, Fireworks file, pure CSS
menus, are AdSense-ready, XHTML 1.0 valid and are very customizable
through both the Fireworks file and the CSS.
If you use one, let me know so I can get a screenshot and
post a link to your site showing how the templates have been
    customized by various designers.
    Cheers!

  • DreamWeaver Template change not updating children webpages?

    Hi Group,
Sorry for my newbie question here.
I loaded an HTML webpage, and saved it out as a DreamWeaver Template file.
I then created webpages from the template file (( File - New - Page From Template - Site - Template), and made sure that the "Update Page when Template Changes" check box was selected/checked.
I then created several chldren webpages, and saved them as .html files.
I decided to change the navbar system - part of the uneditiabel region in the template - by opening the template file and edit-ing that file, and then saving it as the same DreamWeaver template file.
However, the webpages did Not Update to reflect the navbar changes in the template fle !??!???
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I believe it is something that I'm doing incorrectly with DreamWeaver ..
Here is the HTML if anyone is interested.

    Additional Info:
No -I haven't been able to get the DW Template feature to work on other sites - this is my first application of it to a website (actually it's the whole reason for getting DreamWeaver... I know it works, I know that I'm doing something wrong.. I just don't know what it is...)
All the .HTML files (index.html, cad.html, cam.html, etc. etc.)  are in the website's root directory.
The Template file is in its own sub-directory folder named "Templates".
Right now even the .css file is in the root directory....
Thank You for trying to help me -  I greatly appreciate it.

  • Problem Uploading Dreamweaver Template

    Hi,
I am using Dreamweaver 8, and decided to revise my website
using a Dreamweaver template. The pages look GREAT when I preview
them in Firefox or IE. But when I uploaded the home page, using an
FTP program, the page looked like a mess! None of the columns in
the template were there. The formatting is all wrong, and the links
don't work! This page is horrible! I don't understand since they
looked great in the preview. Can somebody tell me what I've done
    wrong?
If you'd like to view the mess, it's at
    http://www.karathecomputertutor.com
    Thanks!

    > If you'd like to view the mess, it's at
    http://www.karathecomputertutor.com
    > Thanks!
there's a problem with the way you've defined this site in
    dreamweaver.
the link you gave is at the root level of the public hosting
    for that
    domain.
    but the css link is:
    <link rel="stylesheet"
    href="../karathecomputertutor4.1/3col_leftNav.css
and the links farther down in the page also are "../
that means go up one folder level.
there is no up from the root level.
The site needs to be defined so that the "homepage" file,
    index.html is at
the root level of what you've picked for the Local Site
    Folder.
and, all the site files need to be in the Local Site Folder
    of course.
and, the remote has to show the public level, with the
    index.html file in
the root (use the "Host Directory" line in dw if your files
    need to go into
a folder like "public_html" or "www" for example)

  • Creating Dreamweaver templates in fireworks

    Hello there,
I have just created a image in fireworks CS3 that i would
like to use as the basic template in a website. Now i dont want it
to simply be set as a background on the site, i am trying to put it
into dreamweaver so that i can edit on top of the template. So i
can put text in, hyperlinks, tables images etc. As it stands, i am
farely new to fireworks and dreamweaver, as you can probably tell.
If this fireworks is the wrong peice of software for creating
templates to be used in dreamweaver, could you please recomommend a
peice of software i should use instead.
    Thanks a lot

    Use Dreamweaver, of course.
Fireworks is a graphics program. It is not designed to
produce robust HTML, much less templates for Dreamweaver.
Fireworks' HTML is for mockup/prototype use only. Use Fireworks to
create your mockups, then your Web site graphics.
Dreamweaver is a heavy-duty Web site design, development, and
production program. Use Dreamweaver to build an HTML page based on
your Fireworks image, then use Dreamweaver's Save as Template
command, making sure to mark areas where you want to be able to
enter/edit content. After that, you can create new pages using your
    template.
    Good luck!

  • Dreamweaver template / having trouble seeing the previews

I am designing a website, using Dreamweaver for the first
time, and I would like to ask your advice.
Do you know how to apply a dreamweaver template to other html
pages. I have having trouble seeing the previews in the local
browser. For examples, when I preview an html page, that has the
template included, I see the page OK. But when I click to go to
another page with the sample template, the new page shows up, but
    without the template design included.

Answered mutliple times on the DW forum.

  • DreamWeaver Template - How to remove a border?

    Hi Folks,
    I'm a newbie here.
I decided to use a dreamweaver template to start my website.  I want to remove the border of the template...as well as to make the Left and Right hand side "margins" the same background color as the webpage... can anyone tell me where to start on this?  Thanks for the help,
    Joe

For myself, the best place to learn about this sort of thing is staring you in the face... I don't like books.  I find that suffering thru solving things is the best way to learn.  The internet is a very good resource, and taking a course or two never hurt me, though I usually had most courses completed by the second class (I couldn't put this stuff down once I started).
Dreamweaver is just a tool...one of a few fairly decent ones.  Learning how to use it is nice, but the more important things to learn are the languages of web design, which can be overwhelming to catch and keep up with.  For the basics, I'd say you want to get neck deep into HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
I don't do web design on a continuous basis... my dealings are more often in the Flash realm. Other folks here may have other recommendations that may be better advice to follow.  You'll probably find a few postings where someone has asked how to learn what, so look around a bit.  If you don't find anything, just ask it straight out as a new posting.

  • Need Help Reslicing Photoshop Site Layout to Update Dreamweaver Template

I created a website in adobe photoshop cs3 and sliced it up
to created an html file with sliced images. My main navigation menu
    is made up of graphics.
I brought it into dreamweaver and created editable regions,
created rollovers etc. Then I created a dreamweaver template from
that to create the rest of the web pages for my site.
The client has come back to me and wants to add more menu
options to the site. This is where I'm stuck! When I use photoshop
to make more menu slices, it renumbers them. How do I export the
new slices with the new layout so I can use them to update my
dreamweaver template. How can I get those new slices/html layout to
the dreamweaver template without losing all the work I have done on
    my current dreamweaver template?
    issuenite

    > Why does photohshop even provided a slicing feature if
    it does not provide
    > good code?
The slicing is not the problem. It's the export as HTML that
    is the
problem. And you'd have to ask Adobe that question if you
    want an answer.
We are all just volunteer peers here.

    FW HTML is no better.

At any rate, read this -
    http://apptools.com/rants/spans.php
    - and then look
at your code and count colspan, and rowspan attributes.
    Unfortunately, the
only way to avoid this mess is to learn enough HTML/CSS that
    you can build
your own tables in DW, and do it in such a way that you don't
    rely on
merging and splitting cells (which is what generates those
    colspan and
    rowspan attributes).
Again, unfortunately, you are REALLY stuck in a bad
    situation. Since you
have a) used a completely graphic menu button array, and b)
    used a graphic
background behind the menu buttons, and c) chosen to embed
    that graphic
background in each sliced button, you cannot add new buttons
    without
remaking the entire menu. You will only make that mistake
    once. I never
start building menus until I have an approved site plan in
    hand. By the
way, that's a nice looking layout.
I don't see any clear path to salvation here. Since you are
    absolutely tied
to PS for exporting the HTML and slices, you will have to
    recreate
    everything, I believe.

  • Dreamweaver template to update file other than html?

    Hi,
I am using Dreamweaver CS4 to manage my website.
The problem is i cannot get Dreamweaver to update my .tpl (php template)
    Any idea?
    Thanks

    Thanks,
I finally figure it out how to get if fix.
May be i should say it clear, i use dreamweaver template which is a dwt file to update all html pages in my website.
But some of the file i use which is tpl extension (the same as html file but with template variables). The dreamweaver
did not recognize it. The page did not show up when i make changes in dwt file.
Then what i do is change the "configuration" > "DocumentTypes", so that dreamweaver recognize tpl as a type of html file.
After that i change extension.txt file also. Rebuild site cache. And now its done.

  • Dreamweaver Template use and Seo

    Hi,

Looking at your page code I can only see <h4> heading tags, no <h1> or <h2><h3> etc. Googles spider will look at the text between each html tag and access it for importance, <h1> being the highest ranked, <h2> the next and so on.
It's important for SEO that you use 'buzz words' between the tags which Google considers  the most applicable when it comes to look through your site to give your site every opportunity to be ranked higher.
So you might find that inserting 'Onlne Java Tuition' between a <h1> tag to be beneficial.
I would also insert the following between a <h2> tag as a kind of sub-header to the <h1>tag.
'Personal Online Java Tutor, Java J2ee Project Based Training by 8 Yrs Experienced Software Engineer. Get Practical Online Training in Java J2ee Jsp Servlets Jdbc J2ee Struts Hibernate Spring Ejb Ajax and other Frameworks.'
Obviously the 'buzz words' for your site are Java Online Tuition/Training so make sure you have quite a few of those integrated into the text on the page and perhaps the images alt tags as well.
Of course it is also important to try and get listed on as many associated sites/forums as posssibe as Google looks for back-links to your site. If it finds some on sites/forums which are already highly ranked then that too can help in the ranking.
It's a bit hit and miss though. Sometimes you can implement all of the above and virtually nothing will happen and at other times you can see some really very good results. I recently got a site ranked at no 2 in Google for a couple of generic buzz words which I never expected Google to bite on given that they were quite common to a lot of other websites in competition.
It's a lot easier if you have a catchment 'location' area which you are aiming at. For instance 'Hat Makers London' will stand a better chance than simply 'Hat Makers'.
    Good luck.

  • Dreamweaver Template Error: Error reading file (Site Location/info) returned incomplete data

    Hello!
I am working on new website we are creating for our company. I have never really had any Dreamweaver template file errors before...so this one has me really stumped! We purchased the site files from Template Monster and I have contacted their tech support, but I have not had much luck with them.
I started out by creating the Dreamweaver template folder that includes the template files that I would like to use. I started creating some pages using the template. I placed all the html pages in the main folder of the website. When I go to update the template to those pages I get the following error: "Error reading file (Site Location\Folder name\Dreamweaver template name) returned incomplete data".
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
The site is a CSS based site with a Flash navigation menu. Since it is in the production phase, I do not yet have it placed on a server so you can take a look at it at this time (although if really needed and we cannot find an answer, I may be able to get the test site on line - if someone thinks they can help me answer this problem by viewing the site). Right now the site is housed in the same place we house all of the other sites we have produced and all of our other templates on our other websites work just fine. The main difference with this site is that we did purchase files from Template Monster to help speed us along during the construction of the page structures and also this site has a Flash Navigation Menu and a few other Flash elements (something our other sites do not really have).
I am using Abobe Dreamweaver CS5 and Windows 7
Thanks again for taking the time to help find and answer to this problem!

I am curious as to why no one likes them around here.
They have spammed these forums in the past.
The code on their pages is rarely 'best-practice' code.
There are much better choices available.
My co-worker and I have to share the files, since we are editing the site together. The files are not local on our computers, but on the company's f drive that have Novell on it.
This arrangement is a recipe for disaster.  The correct way to collaborate on a site with a colleague is with the following setup:
Each of you must have a LOCAL site (local to your workstation)
You would use a single remote location as a staging area, so each of you would have a site definition that specifies your own workstation for the local site, and the same network shared location as the Remote site
You will both need to enable Check In/ Check Out
You will both have to agree to PLAY BY THE RULES!
One (or both) of you will also need to have a second site defined that has the staging server as the local root folder, and would have the PRODUCTION server as the remote site.  I'll explain how to use this site soon.
When you use CI/CO, your 'gold-standard files' are on the staging server.  To begin working, you would connect to the staging server, and double click on a file, which will a) fetch the file from the staging server to your local site, and b) CHECK OUT the file to you.  As long as you have the file checked out, it cannot be edited by your colleague.  When you are done with your edit, you would CHECK IN the file (which uploads it to the staging server).  It can now be edited by your colleague.
When you add templates to this scenario, things get even more complicated, although manageable.  If you ever need to make a change to a template you must use the following procedure:
ALL FILES MUST BE CHECKED IN - this includes both you and your colleague.
One of you would connect with the SECOND SITE, open and edit the template, and save it propagating the changes to all "LOCAL" files (i.e., on the staging server).
Each of you would then need to return to the FIRST SITE, and again check out any files you want to work on.
When changes are done, and files are ready to publish, connect to the SECOND SITE, and upload the files from STAGING to PRODUCTION.
Does that make sense?  It's important that it does.
I need to add in one more tab/link to the Flash nav bar.
Using Flash for navigation is a VERY POOR CHOICE, unless you also have redundant, text-based navigation on the pages.  By using Flash to navigate, you guarantee: a) your pages will not be spiderable by search engines, b) your pages will not be navigable by iPlatforms, and c) your pages will be inaccessible to anyone browsing with screen assistive devices.  Someone is making bad decisions about this site, in my opinion.

  • Dreamweaver Template files not updating other files

I took over a website and the site uses Dreamweaver Templates.  I'm not too familiar with the way that Templates works.  Anyway, the nav (links at bottom of website) need to be updated.  I updated the secondary.dwt file within the Templates folder.  I uploaded it, but it's not updating the pages on the website that use this template file.  Please help!

When you update the template from within DW, you should get a dialog asking if you want to update all of the files that use the template. When you click "OK" everything is updated across the site.
If you updated the template outside of the defined site, it won't update anything and you may have a bit of work on your hands.
In DW, you should have a Files tab with a drop down menu. The drop down menu should have all of your defined sites. Choose the site you are working on and a list of the files in that site will appear. Choose the template and make your changes and it will ask if you want to update everything else.

  • Where can I find some Dreamweaver templates?

I'm want to redo my website and need a new look. Where can I find some nice Dreamweaver templates?

See F1 Help -- Working with DW Templates
    http://www.smartwebby.com/web_site_design/dreamweaver_template.asp#1
Templates are a convenient site management tool.  A DWTemplate is a common layout file from which you spawn your site pages.
Editable Regions are for content that will change from page to page.
Everything outside Editable Regions is common to all  site pages & only editable from within the main template.dwt file.
