Existing IMAP notes not available in notes app after mountain lion installation

After today's mountain lion upgrade (from lion) my notes stored on an IMAP server are not available in the new notes app. The folder of the IMAP Account itself is shown but appears empty. On my Iphone all notes of the IMAP Account are shoen correctly as well as on another mac still running lion.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Okay, I assume there are some different reasons for the syncing problem.
I got my notes syncing again by just losing the prefix on my iPhone and renaming the existing notes folder. For those with a similar problem, here's how:
Old situation:
Within OS X Lion I used a Gmail account with notes (IMAP). To avoid a messy layout with the Gmail folders I used [Gmail] as IMAP Path Prefix (found under Accounts, tab Advanced).
Under iOS5, 'Notes' was ticked on under the Gmail account. The result: Apple created a IMAP folder '[Gmail]/Notes' to store all notes.
New situation:
After upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion I ticked 'Notes' under the Gmail account within system prefs, 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars'. The new Notes app remained empty and didn't show my existing notes that were still on my iPhone.
Logging in to www.gmail.com reveiled a new folder created by Mountain Lion: 'Notes'. The existing notes folder was named '[Gmail]/Notes' - because I used the [Gmail] prefix - and contained al the existing notes.
So Mountain Lion syncs with the IMAP folder 'Notes' and the iPhone syncs with the folder '[Gmail]/Notes'
In Lion the Mail settings were used for both Mail and Notes. So the IMAP prefix applied to both.
In Mountain Lion, the IMAP prefix only applies to Mail, not to Notes.
New situation, fixed:
As Mountain Lion can only use a folder called 'Notes' for syncing, I had to change the folder my iPhone was syncing with: '[Gmail]/Notes'. I removed the newly created folder 'Notes' via www.gmail.com under the label settings and renamed label '[Gmail]/Notes' to 'Notes'. After that I removed the IMAP prefix '[Gmail]' from my iPhone Gmail (advanced) account settings, making the iPhone sync notes with the folder 'Notes' instead of '[Gmail]/Notes'. That's it.
Btw, I maintained the use of the prefix within Apple Mail under Mountain Lion as that is totally separated from the Notes section.
Hope this helps.

  • Wordpress sites are not displaying correctly on my mac after mountain lion upgrade (on all browsers - chrome, safari, firefox)

I am having trouble viewing anything that is on wordpress, including the wordpress site. This means I cannot view my own wordpress blog too properly - no images are viewable, only plain text and hyperlinked text. This happened immediately after I upgraded to Mountain Lion. My Mac is mid-2010. Everything else works fine. Thanks.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • After Mountain Lion installation a new folder does not open

After installing Mountain Lion when creating a new folder in my home folder the new, empty folder will not open correctly. When double clicked, the new, empty folder shows the other folders in my home folder not an empty folder. The icons displayed also get slightly smaller.
If the newly created folder is clicked once it remains selected until a new selection is made in the sidebar. Doing this also does not allow any other folder in the home folder to be selected.

After I downloaded Mountain Lion to my computer I am not able to access a website I had bookmarked because it says the certificate is expired or something like that and the option to open it up or do anythingn to correct it is grayed out, does anyone know of a fix for this?  And it says it wont let me access it anymore for some reason.  Any help would be appreciated.

I tried both of those and when it says this site is trying to access your computer there is an accept and a deny box and the accept box is grayed out and the deny box is the only one you can click on, is there anything else I can try?  Ive tried to get that certificate to be accepted always and entered it but it just wont let me click on the accept box, it is still grayed out, the only one I can click on is the deny box and clicking on it is the only way to get the whole box off of my screen.  Again, any help would be appreciated

  • Missing the Message App after Mountain Lion Update

My Macbook Pro totally crashed after the Mountain Lion update, and a wonderful tech support lady at Apple walked me though hours of restoring it. However, now that it is working fine and all programs re-installed, I noticed that the Message app is missing. I really like this app and want it back. I paid for the OS and think I should get everything I had before, plus the update. I shouldn't lose a program in the update, should I? I've read through all the other message boards and can find only general suggestions to search in the spotlight (which I did to no avail), and I have searched for a third-party download. After the trouble I've had, I really just want the program back from Apple. HELP!

If it did not get reinstalled for some reason, then you will need to reinstall. See the following. You can avoid this if you have a prior backup.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able toauthorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

  • Anyone having RAM issues with Notes.app on Mountain Lion?

I have installed ML a couple different times. All is well except for Notes. Once Notes is running and after it has synced therough iCloud there is a process that continues to run named "com.apple.NotesMigratorService" and it gobbles up RAM until there is no space left on the drive. The last time I watched in Activit Monitor and killed it but within a few minutes it would start up again. Currently, after running Notes, killing the process twice then quitting Notes, and now some 20 minutes later, I have ...
    183,217 Page Ins
    4,380,504 Page Outs
Last time all the drive got eaten I had ...
    687,422 Page Ins
    15,363,792 Page Outs
    MacBook Pro (early 2011)
    2.2 GHz i7
    8 GB RAM
    256 GB SSD

This issue is a big problem on my Mac, I can only imagine that it's affecting many more people than the few who've posted in this forum. 'timothylance' has indicated that Apple has contacted him and they're running diagnostics/addressing the issue. I certainly hope so.
This problem is affecting my early 2009/dual quad-core Mac Pro. I had two notes on my iPhone before I installed Mountain Lion. The notes were sync'd to my Mac, two MacBook Pros, and my iPad. I installed ML on my two MacBook Pros, and didn't notice any problems.
When I finally installed ML on my Mac Pro, I noticed a lot of hard drive activity. Applications were locking up left and right (I was running out of RAM). Eventually I had to kill a bunch of applications, and the hard drive activity was still high. I restarted the computer and had the same problems. Eventually, a window pops up stating that you've run out of 'disk space'. I checked the Activity monitor and saw that the 'com.apple.NotesMigratorService' had eaten up all my available Real (RAM) and Virtual Memory (Hard disk space availabe to use as Virtual RAM/swap space).
You can use the 'Activity Monitor' application to locate and Force Kill (quiting doesn't seem to work/help) the 'com.apple.NotesMigratorService'. This should immediately frees up the Real and Virtual memory being eaten up by this process. A Force Kill also stops the process from restarting, until you launch/restart one of the applications which triggers the activation of this 'com.apple.NotesMigratorService' process.
So far (in my experience), it seems that the following actions trigger the activation of the 'com.apple.NotesMigratorService'
    - Launching the Notes application.
    - Launching the System Preferences application and accessing the iCloud preference. (Note: My Notes preference in the iCloud pane is checked/synched, but I can't get Mail checked/synched via iCloud. This may be unrelated/a different problem.)
    - Launching the System Preferences application and accessing the Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference.
(FYI - In Safari 6.0 the bulleted list view doesn't display properly. The paragraph above was drafted/originally posted as a bulleted list, but appears without any indentation or list bullets when viewed in Safari 6.0. I edited it to add hyphens and hard breaks to simulate a list view.)
Hopefully Apple will patch this soon. I find it extremely annoying that I have to continuously monitor my 'Activity Monitor' to watch for this process. If I find additional triggers for the process, I'll reply to my entry here.

  • Notes.app in Mountain Lion leaves multiple messages on Google Gmail account!?

Hello, I've set up the Notes app in Mountain Lion (10.8.2) to sync with Google Gmail Notes and I've come across something rather peculiar.  I typed a Note into the Note app, it created a message in the Gmail account with the label "Notes" like I read it was supposed to do.  (I'm still baffled why they designed the Notes sync this way but that is besides the point.)  Then I proceed to update the note in the app and it updated the note in Gmail.  I though, "sweet, it's working," so I began typing away.  After imputing a bunch of notes into the Notes app, I went over to Gmail and clicked on "All Mail" and to my surprise there were HUNDREDS of partial messages left behind by the Notes app!  Apparently everytime a note is updated and the Notes app syncs with Gmail (which is every few seconds), it creates a new message.
I know that a work-around solution is to just use iCloud, but I haven't found an easy way to sync up iCloud Notes with an Android.  I know, I know, I should just get an iPhone and call it a day, but for those that use Gmail Notes, has anyone found a solution?  It's so annoying!!
(I wonder if Apple did this on purpose so users will switch to the much easier iCloud and iPhone.  Hmmmm.)

    Good day all,
I had the similar issue. I did the following to recover my notes before the upgrade:
You need to locate the StickiesDatabase under your Library folder.
Once you have a copy of your StickiesDatabase under
    /Users/<insert_your_home_directory>/Library/StickiesDatabase
    Export stickies created by Stickies.app
Install National Velocity (NV) - http://notational.net/ and start the application
In Finder open your Library folder and locate StickiesDatabase
Drag StickiesDatabase into the list of notes in NV main window
After you are able to see your notes in NV, it is up to you how to transfer them to Apple Notes. You could export as HTML/RTF etc or copy paste manually...  I have decided to use NV from now on.
The instructions above is from the following page:

what does it mean on itunes when it says a movie will not be available on the cloud after purchase?

It means that you get only one download of the movie per purchase, so once it's downloaded, you'd be wise to make a backup. Otherwise, if something happens to delete the movie, you'll have to buy it again.

Good question. That's the main way it's supposed to be installed. You shouldn't even need to choose a partition. You purchase Mountain Lion through the App Store, it downloads to the Applications folder and automatically begins the installation on the drive where Lion or Snow Leopard resides as soon as the download is complete.
