Existing Library Files flagged as Damaged after Move to new iMac

Hi -
I just upgraded my mid-2011 iMac to a late-2012 iMac.
I have the iTunes library on a Thunderbolt Raid (Promise Pegasus) and have connected the Promise to the new iMac.
I'm trying to get the 'new' iTunes to see and use the library on the Pegasus, but each time I try to start (using the option key)
and choose the Raid library location, iTunes tells me the .itl file is damaged, renames it, and builds a new .itl and .xml file.
I have restored both of those files on the raid and re-connected it to the old iMac (I still have both machines) and the old iMac sees all the media, playlists, etc just fine.
Does anyone know what I need to do to correct this?
I am POSITIVE the library on the Pegasus Raid is intact and undamaged, just need to convince the iTunes on the new machine of that fact.
Thanks!

Ah, I wondered if it might have something to do with the retina display. I tried what you suggested and made the LR window about 1/4 size of the display. I was then able to apply presets instantaneously, with no lag at all (much faster than my previous system). I also opened some images in Photoshop and the Nik filters, and reduced the window size. The Nik filters are still a bit more "laggy" than I would expect, but overall there was an improvement.
Is Adobe planning on updating the max preview size given these new displays?
I wish I would have considered this prior to purchase. Probably wouldn't have stopped me, because the retina display is so stunning, but the lag is really annoying.

  • HT1660 iTunes library files full and cannot download movie but plenty of open disc space?

iTunes library files full and cannot download movie but plenty of open disc space?

To clarify, currently on the 2TB external drive are music and videos. I want to split them up and hopefully save some space - and maybe foresee problems in the future when I hit max capacity on the 1TB external, and think about a 4GB (not the best option I see at this time) or another 2 2TB drives.
Doesn't the Library file just save locations when iTunes closes down so everything should be OK? I mean, the prog can recognize everything, it just won't download to anything, even if I move from the external drive an older movie to the new drive, it refuses to "see" the movie so I can download it.

    Hi,
Based on your description, I have done a test and I can’t reproduce your issue.
I have used SharePoint Designer 2013 to open a SharePoint Online site and there are no issues.
I’d like to clarify whether you encounter any issues when accessing SharePoint Online sites. If there are no issues during the accessing procedure, SharePoint Online service should be working fine at your side. The issue may be caused by specific SharePoint
Designer client or network. I suggest you refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Use SharePoint Designer to open another site and check whether it is successful.
    2. When you are prompted to enter Office 365 account and password, try other users’ accounts and select the remembering the credential.
    3. Perform the connection procedure under another environment and verify whether the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, can you provide related screenshots for further troubleshooting?

  • TM doesn't see its backup after migrating to new iMac and restoring system.

TM doesn't see its backup even though it still exists on the HD. I just migrated to a new iMac. After using OS X disc to 'Restore System From Backup' with TM backup it was showing the latest backup attempt had failed. The same disk was highlighted under TM Preferences too. But once I reset it TM began to make a new backup under a new folder/computer name (adding a number to the end). Is there a way to make TM see the existing BU and continue on?

I'll try to recall to the best of my memory what I did... It's been stressful, frustrating, trying to deal with it.
    Computers:
    1) iMac6,1 (Late 2006) Intel 2.16 GHz Nvidia OS X 10.5.6
    2) iMac8,1 (Early 2008) Intel 2.8 GHz ATI OS X 10.5.4
Perform final backup of iMac #1 with TM and SuperDuper!
    Shut down and disconnect.
Hook up iMac #2 and power up.
After OS X intro select 'Transfer from another Mac' with Set Up Assistant (note: this was from the SD! backup).
Everything was selected for transfer; Users, Apps, Network,..etc. (I assumed it would update OS X too).
    Transfer complete.
    Restart.
    * I have both Admin and User account. I noticed things weren't performance was off; log in was slow (Menu Bar items took longer to display, clock too), and generally overall apps,..etc seemed slow. Apps were asking for license and reg info too.
Second attempt (restore system from TM backup):
Startup from OS X 10.5.6 disc.
    Erase HD with DU.
    Select 'Restore System from Backup'.
    Select TM backup.
    After that completed, restart computer.
And that brings us to now. Well, sort of.
So what is the proper way to migrate as it were from between two different Intel iMac's? I have to assume I transfered over system files that caused a conflict with the new iMac's HW, correct? What can I do now? I've already performed new backups of both SD! and TM. I didn't think it mattered since either way the backups come from my old system. I'm guessing I should have updated OS X first on the new iMac and only selected User files, Apps, Network settings,.. etc., for transfer, or maybe installed apps fresh. I thought I was doing it correctly.
    The new iMac still seems off with performance to me. I've tried performing multiple 'Repair Disk Permissions' too. There are about 32 differing permissions but DU doesn't seem able to repair them as they come up again and again. Here are some examples;

My final attempt to straighten this out is to install from OS X disc fresh (erase/install). Transfer only User files, Network settings, anything pertinent to my Users (email, browser, keychain,..),... and nothing else. Reinstall 3rd-Party Apps. I had to do this before after updating from Tiger to Leopard because it didn't take well.
    Any help/insight appreciated.

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • How do I copy files from my old pc to my new imac?

how do I copy files from my old pc to my new imac?

There are many methods, however you are specific about the type of files you want to move. The first time your Mac turns on it begins with Setup Assistant and asks if you want to migrate from another Mac or PC, you must have missed that. I'd recommend looking over Pondini's Guide and following the directions for using Migration Assistant. You can find them by clicking How to Use Migration Assistant From PC to Mac 10.7 Lion.
If you have specific files you are attempting to migrate then moving them to an external HD and then just dragging and dropping them from the EHD to the Mac would be very simple. Apple explains migration strategies in Switch 101

    Hi Dears
My Apple wireless Mouse and keyboard   dose not work since one Month after getting the new iMac 27 !
The Bluetooth assistant could find the Devices for few seconds but can not pairing them ? at least get  an error
Operation system is already of version 10.7.5 updated ,but no use ?!
Could  getting the Os x 10.7.5 Bluetooth utility  repaired after  updating  to  Admin Tools 10.7.5 ?
When not ,than advice me please to repair or solving this problem ,

Your problem is likely due to
    com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard 5.9.1
I would recommend tracking down the app that uses this and unionist all it completely from  your computer. Also if you have upgraded the RAM on the machine you may have a RAM falling DIMM or it may have become unseated or it might not be the correct specs for your machine.

  • IPHOTO Library file will not open after update of iPhoto 9.6.1

I am trying to open up my IPHOTO Library in IPHOTO 9.6.1 with not success.
My computer is a Mac (27-inch, Mid 2011), 2.7 GHZ Intel core i5 processor, 8 GB ram, AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB graphics card, 1TB Hard Drive.
My iPhoto 9..6.1 appears to be created on March 16, 2015 and was modified on March 20,2015 which I assume is from a security update 2015-003.
My iPhoto Library was created March 22, 2012 and was last updated March 1, 2015.  To the best of my knowledge, it has not been open since it was last updated.  Unfortunately there are no current backups to the file.
When I launch IPHOTO the screen shows a rotating sprocket then after a period of time I receive a message:
Your photo library is either in use be another application or has become unreadable. Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again.  If the problem persists, try rebuilding your iPhoto library,  to do this , quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed.  You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
When I follow this am left with four  items to chooses from:  repair permissions, rebuild thumbnails, repair database, rebuild database.  The first is selected and assume this is by default. I am not sure what the best choice is to select.  Secondly since i have no backup of the file and I am not sure the file is corrupted, I started trying to create  a copy on on an external drive however the file (192GB Size) new completes a copy routine. I considered a backup process which would take multiple hours.
    Looking for direction.

    1. make a back up. No matter how long it takes.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
    2.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Can I simply copy and paste an existing library file from XP to a Mac and then copy and paste the music files themselves? Of course, the music files will be in a different location...

    Hello Gurus,
I have an aged XP machine with a large music library in ITunes. iTunes will not run any longer (tried uninstalling and reinstalling etc to no avail) but the music files are backed up onto an external drive so all safe. I have purchased a Mac which of course already has iTunes installed and I can copy the music files onto the Mac, but can I simply copy and paste the iTunes library files from the XP machine to the Mac so that all of the playlists, tags, ratings etc transfer, or do I have to start again?
    Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like you have a split library. Ideally you would make this portable before attempting to move it to the Mac. See make a split library portable for details.
Perhaps you can get iTunes running on the old box long enough to sort things out...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
You will also want to deauthorize the XP system once everything is working properly on the Mac.

  • Change File Format For Existing Library Files? How?

Lightroom v5.3: I'm a long time DNG file user for Pentax and Nikon cameras. I recently discovered that about 300 of my RAW Nikon files already imported into the Library are NEF files instead of DNG files as my other 5700 files are.
I know that I made an error somewhere along the way, but- Is there an easy solution to converting those existing NEF files to the DNG format?
I was thinking of renaming them, but..........somehow that seems too easy.
Thanks for any wisdom you can send my way.

Thank You, John. That menu command went right by me when I searching the best way how to do this task.

  • Moved Library File (*.itl) without damage  HuH?

This is an odd question.  It's odd because everyting is working well, and given the stupid thing I did, they shouldn't.
In the course of moving some files around recently, I moved the folder that holds the database (iTunes Library.itl) for my I-Tunes library.  I didn't move the library itself - just the folder with the database file in it.
Moving the folder was an accident.  I didn't intend to do so, but I did.
What's puzzling to me is that this mistake did not cause me any problems.
It seems to me that what should have happend is that the next time I started I-Tunes, it should have been unable to find the database, and it should have prompted to me either find it or ask for the creation of a new one.
But, that didn't happen.  It opened like normal.  All my music was still listed in the library.  All the playlists were intact.
How come?  How did I-Tunes know where to find the database.  Does it do a search when it can't find one?
One last hint:  I think I-Tunes might have been open when I mistakenly moved the folder with the database.  Does that enable it to notice that the file is being moved and to update its pointer to the location?
I guess I shouldn't look a gift-horse in the mouth.  I avoided a problem, but the fact that there's no problem challenges my confidence that I understand how this works.  That's why I'm asking the question.
Does anybody have any insight that would shed light on this?
    John

If you moved the folder when the library was open then the one file that won't have actually moved would have been the .itl file. Other files in that folder will be regenerated if missing.
For details of what will and won't break when you move things around see this post of mine.
A recent change (not sure when) means that if your library file isn't where it is expected to be then iTunes will just create a new blank library in that location. Previously this would only happen if that location was also the default <Users's Music>\iTunes folder, otherwise you would get the Choose or Create library prompt.

  • Itunes Library that I swapped in after switching to new PC is out of date, missing ~3 months of added music

    Hi,
I just got a new PC laptop (replacing a dying one) and transferred my Itunes library to its C drive from an external drive, and copied the Itunes Library folder over as well so that I wouldn't have to recreate playlists (and, more importantly, redo all of the checking-and-unchecking to make my chosen library fit on my 160GB Classic).
When the library first populated, I was very happy to see that checks-and-unchecks seemed in order, but then as I was syncing the Ipod to the new computer I realized that the library file must be out of date, as two or three months' worth of additions don't seem to be in there (even though the Library file says it was created on July 20).  Is there anything I can do to find the most up-to-date library file on the external drive and put it in place on the new laptop?  It's weird - the newer songs themselves are in the new Itunes Media folder, but they aren't showing up in my Itunes library unless i re-add them.  This, and the fact that the last sync added stuff that I chose months ago to remove from my Ipod so as not to run out of space (I'm in the last 1.5GB or so), is very frustrating.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Search for all files of the form *.itl. The most recently modified one will be the active library. The one before may be the library that was most recently active on your previous system.
See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for tips on how to switch the library you want to access into the correct location.

  • IWeb doesn't show JPEGs and PDFs after move to new computer.

I bought a new Mac mini (running OS X 10.8.2), moved all files from the old one, installed the most recent Domain.sites file from the old computer into the new computer's User/Library/Application Support/iWeb, but now iWeb opens with all embedded .jpg and .pdf files missing and a long list of "missing file" error messages appearing on startup. All of the .html, .png, .gif, .css and .js files appear to be working O.K. Everything in the "Sites" folder is unchanged since iWeb worked perfectly in the old computer. What can I do to fix this?

Version 1.1.2. I didn't realize until you asked and I checked, that iWeb has been discontinued and I must have transferred my version over from my old computer along with all the other applications. I see I can still buy an old CD version of iLife '09 from third-party vendors that includes iWeb '09, which is presumably version 3.0 and upgradable to 3.0.4 -- near as I can tell the last version before the program went out of production. Evidently iWeb 1.1.2 has compatibility issues with OS X Mountain Lion? I don't want to buy iWeb '09 (the other components of iLife '09 are useless, since 2012 versions were shipped with OS X 10.8) unless I can get some assurance it will work with my existing files. I have RapidWeaver 4.4.2 but I don't have time to recreate everything from scratch. It's frustrating that there's evidently no way to export all the work I've put into my iWeb website over the years into a form that can be edited using other web design software. Or is there? I bought RapidWeaver expecting to be able to open and edit my iWeb files. It's all HTML and JavaScript, isn't it? Why aren't all my files interchangeable between web design programs?

  • After installing a new iMac Elements 8 will no longer launch.

I recently installed a new iMac (OS 10.10.1), and Elements 8 will no longer launch, returning Error Message 150:30. Can anyone help with this?
    Scott Hunter

I've had the same problem today with my Mac.
Went back to OS 10.8 after a disasterous few months with 10.9/
Now Elements would open and I get that same error code message.
I re-installed my Mac OS, but now Elements won't open. Licensing stopped working. Error code 150:30
    See below.
I think it's all to do with this FlexNet, which is nowhere to be found on my computer now.
How do I get it back though?
Can't find any way to contact Adobe. I do have the Elements 8 CD though.
Okay, I've found that this is a recognised problem.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html
Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Mac OS
and all the solutions tell me to find the folder FlexNet Publisher in my library.
Problem is FlexNet Publisher doesn't seem to exist there. Can't find it anywhere on my hard drive.
Gettting down to the end of that page gives me the following info....
The FlexNet folders and files required to run Adobe applications can become corrupted or have permission problems if moved from one machine to another. They can also be damaged through a Time Machine system restore. FlexNet service licensing failures cannot be resolved by reinstalling the application or by using the Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool. If permissions issues prevent the FlexNet licensing service from launching, accessing data, or communicating with Adobe processes, a licensing failure occurs.
Well it looks like backing everything up using Time Machine may have caused all this problem. Anyone know how to get Flexnet Publisher back?

  • Migratiing files from a MacBook Pro to a new iMac via firewire connection

The firewire connection does not appear to work between my older MacBook Pro running 10.4.11 and my new iMac running 10.5.6. I've been trying to use migration assistant and it never gets passed "waiting for old mac to restart". I 've put the target macbook pro into target disk mode by pressing "t" at startup and then using system preferences, start up disk, start disk in target mode. It appears that the iMac just can't see the older mac. Any suggestions to trouble shoot? Very little info on apple's support documentation. I have over 90 GB of data (music, files, photos). I can do this over a network connection but it will take 30 hours just to copy my itunes library.

I would start by doing the following on the MBP:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Next, turn off both computers. Connect via a Firewire cable. Boot the MBP into TDM. Wait for the TDM screen to appear. Now boot the iMac normally. See if the disk drive of the MBP doesn't appear on the iMac's Desktop.
