Existing line at address but there isn't!

I am moving to a new property this week and BT have now decided to tell me that I cannot have a phoneline Infinity there for another 10 days because there is an active line there already and they need permission to use it from the current subscriber.
That's certainly news to the old owner who moved out 2 months ago, whose service was with Sky and and they are already connected on the same number elsewhere.
Is there any way around this?  The wall socket is dead (as expected) because there is no phone line there.  If there was then the old owner would be paying for it still.

sounds like the other provider has not released the line back to BT yet for what ever reason

    Thank you, Allen.  My iMac is a 2009.  I can't shine a light into the disc drive slot as it has a built in whisker cover that prevents anything from getting in.  It will accept a disc half way in before the disc reaches a springy obstruction.
    About 3 weeks ago, the computer locked up so I inserted the OS disc and reinstalled it.  In general, the computer works just like it used to but we've had a few quirks appear; for example, this is one of them.  Also, we can't figure out how to keep from having to sign-in when we turn the computer on.  Also, we can't access our one on-line account anymore.  Very strange.

    thank you.  that worked but i do have another question.  i was able to import photos as you instructed but i had to import the whole album.  how do i import only one or a few photos?

    well PhillyPhan, I can't tell that you're better looking just by your iphoto icon, now can I? Although it is a lovely sunset you've got there.
    Thanks for your response to my question, I see your point and will do that, however, I have another folder that was created before I had a Mac, which has all sorts of lovely titles and labels and some of those pictures I brought over to my ibook when I first started. So there are some duplicates in my iphoto library that I already have backed up in that other folder. I guess I shouldn't really obsess about those. I guess I am just nervous about deleting all my prior iphoto library, but I should have faith that it will all be there in my pictures library. Just trying to clean up the virtual mess.
    I'll hold my breath and take the plunge.

    If you're running Java 7, then in System Preferences > Java > Java Control Panel in the Security tab there is a check box to enable Java in your browser. To check for update go to the Update tab.

    Check to see if your system meets the minimum requirements. Other have reported that if it doesn't, then PPRO will not show in the list.

    Because there are many personnel wifi networks around. It seems that most households have one. The assign a password for two main reason;
    - To not allow other users to steal their internet connection
    - To help prevent outside users from gaining access to their computer.

  • Phone thinks there is a headphone attached, but there isn't.

    My 3G phone "thinks" there is a headphone attached, but there isn't. I cannot hear calls coming in, and if I call someone I cannot hear them, nor can they hear me. When I click on the volume button on the side it says "headphone" when it should say "ringer". Occasionally it says something I have not seen before: "ringer" and with "headphones" in parentheses underneath.
    But I can make calls fine with a headphone plugged in.
    I also notice that music is playing on iTunes all the time, when I have not turned it on.
    I have talked with an Apple iPhone tech person, and we have tried most things we could think of, including a total restore. After the restore I got it to work for a few minutes, then it went right back to thinking there was a headphone attached when there isn't.
    Any ideas out there?? Other than my having to buy a new phone?

    Lint or fluff is a frequent problem, even if you don't think there could be much in there. The best way to remove it is to switch off the iPhone and then use a needle to excavate. Naturally you should not poke blindly. This is a far more effective method than using canned air.     A compatible SIM card would be from AT&T and would not work in India.  It sounds as if your iPhone was hacked to unlock it and when you updated it, the hack was removed, thus relocking it to AT&T.

    Sounds like some form of ad-aware.
    Boot up your pc in safe mode w/ networking, open FF and type "about:plugins" in the url address bar. Take note of anything that looks like it may be associated w/ "Facemooch". Close FF and do a search for any malicious looking files listed under the plugin section and append "bak" to the extension. You may need to open task manager prior to doing this to ensure the file isn't running, if "rundll32.exe or a malicious looking file, a simple search should be able to determine this, end the task prior to changing the extension (ie. somefile.dll.bak) <- this can be changed in the search wizard.
    Fire up msconfig while your still in Safe Mode, and uncheck any startup programs that are of unknown origin. (this does not delete anything, but just keeps it from booting at startup) msconfig should be available from the run command, just type in "msconfig" and enter.
    norton also has a freeware program called "autorun", very useful in stopping malicious files in their tracks.
    Most file validity can usually be determined by the directory they are lying in, for example, most viruses or malicious programs tend to load themselves into the c://windows/system32 directory or root directory (synonym).

  • HELP says there is an "eport bookmarks" option in the bookmarks tab, but there isn't. I'm using Firefox 4.1

    I wanted to export my bookmarks into Safari because in Firefox I can't open up and view friends pictures in Facebook. I'm using both browsers now (Firefox & Safari (for FB) I wanted to export my bookmarks from Firefox to Safari. The Help section in Firefox says that in the FF Bookmark menu there is and Export Bookmarks option. But thee isn't. Did this latest revision of FF 4.1 leave out that option?
