Exit codes from PowerBuilder executable in Redwood
We are currently in the process of Integration Testing for SAP Go-Live planned for March 31, 2008. Our Integration Testing is being done thru Redwood Job Scheduler. There appears to be a problem with exit codes from our PowerBuilder executable that does not correlate to condition codes in Redwood. The PowerBuilder executable either returns an exit code of 1 for successful or -1 for not successful. Redwood interprets -1 as KILLED. In reality the situation is that some records are processed successfully, but once a bad record is encountered, an exit code of -1 is set to indicate an error. The question is - what can be done in Redwood to interpret PowerBuilder exit codes correctly? In this case, we would expect an ERROR status to be produced but not a KILLED status which is misleading.
This is much simple. Redwood is based on Oracle. You can get a help of oracle developer, you can handle this based on either exceptions or decode statement.
Otherwise, you can write a job that gets triggered based on killed status of this job and checks the actual error in PB log file. Then it will change the status of this job to Error in database instead of Killed.

How to get exit code from C code when calling java method via JNI?
Hi, All
in my project, i need to call a java method from C code using JNI, yet I do
not know how to
retrieve the exit code of java program. the java code is like below
public static void main(....)
if(error){
System.exit(-77);// the exit code is -77
and the JNI c code may like below
/* Invoke main method. */
(*env)->CallStaticVoidMethod(env, mainClass, mainID, mainArgs);
//here I want to retrieve the exit code from java to check if there is an
error
any suggestions? thanksHi Liang Zhang,
In your C code add:
void (JNICALL y_exit)(jint code) {
and when you are initialazing JVM options add:
JavaVMOption options[...];
options[...].optionString = "exit";
options[...].extraInfo = y_exit;
See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/jni/jni-12.html

ORA-27369 Exit-Code: 255 when executing sql script as job
Dear all
I'd like to find and compile all invalid objects in an instance. This should be done every day as a scheduled job with the use of DBMS_SCHEDULER.
For this, I set up the following sql-script:
---------start script--------------
set heading off;
set feedback off;
set echo off;
Set lines 999;
Spool /tmp/run_invalid.sql
select
'ALTER ' || OBJECT_TYPE || ' ' ||
OWNER || '.' || OBJECT_NAME || ' COMPILE;'
from
dba_objects
where
status = 'INVALID'
spool off;
set heading on;
set feedback on;
set echo on;
@/tmp/run_invalid.sql
exit
------ end script ----
The script ist working well when executed manualy via sqlplus. As you can see, it spools the commands to a second file (run_invalid.sql) which is the beeing executed to compile the invalid objects found.
I now want to schedule this script via DBMS_SCHEDULER (running the job every day at 7AM). Creation of the job:
BEGIN
DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB (
job_name => 'compile_invalid_objects',
job_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
job_action => '/home/oracle/scripts/sql/compile_invalid_objects.sql',
start_date => trunc(sysdate)+1+7/24,
repeat_interval => 'trunc(sysdate)+1+7/24',
enabled => TRUE,
comments => 'SQL-Script, und invalid objects zu finden und zu kompilieren'
END;
Manualy execute and error message:
BEGIN
DBMS_SCHEDULER.RUN_JOB (job_name => 'compile_invalid_objects',
use_current_session => true);
END;
FEHLER in Zeile 1:
ORA-27369: Job vom Typ EXECUTABLE nicht erfolgreich mit Exit-Code: 255
ORA-06512: in "SYS.DBMS_ISCHED", Zeile 150
ORA-06512: in "SYS.DBMS_SCHEDULER", Zeile 441
ORA-06512: in Zeile 2
--> Sorry for this, I'm using german localized oracle.
Unfortunately, it seems that only Shell-Scripts can be scheduled when using job_type='EXECUTABLE'. Can you confirm this?
BTW: The script is chmoded to 777, therefore it can't be a permission problem.
Is there maybe another solution with one single script using dbms_output functionality and run the script in a loop?
To complete my post, here are the commands used to create and test the job:
BEGIN
DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB (
job_name => 'compile_invalid_objects',
job_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
job_action => '/tmp/compile_invalid_objects.sql',
start_date => trunc(sysdate)+1+7/24,
repeat_interval => 'trunc(sysdate)+1+7/24',
enabled => TRUE,
comments => 'SQL-Script, und invalid objects zu finden und kompilieren'
END;
Thanks for your help
CasiYou could more simply use $ORACLE_HOME/dbms/admin/utlrp.sql

Inconsistent exit code from Runtime.getRuntime().exec
I'm getting non-deterministic behavior from a call to a native process. Here is the code:
public class Test {
public static void main (String[] pArgs) {
try {
String cmd[] = { "cmp", "-s",
pArgs[0],
pArgs[1] };
System.err.println("running command: ");
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
System.err.println("getting exitcode...");
int exitcode = p.waitFor();
System.err.println(exitcode);
System.err.println(p.exitValue());
} catch(Exception e) {
System.err.println("Caught exception while executing cmd");
e.printStackTrace();
And here is the output:
bock@homeruns[~/work/index]10:08> java Test output output.old
running command:
getting exitcode...
0
0
bock@homeruns[~/work/index]10:08> java Test output output.old
running command:
getting exitcode...
1
1
bock@homeruns[~/work/index]10:08> java Test output output.old
running command:
getting exitcode...
0
0
they should all be 1's because the files are different. when i run it on the command line i get:
bock@homeruns[~/work/index]10:13> cmp -s output output.old ; echo $?
1
any help would definitely be appreciated!
thanks,
rogerthanks for the link. i read through it but it doesn't seem to address why the exit code would be inconsistently reported. the other problems described by that link don't seem to apply to this case because i have not experienced hanging and there is no standard input, standard output, or standard error associated with "cmp -s" - all it does is return the appropriate exit code.
should i be reporting this as a bug to sun? up till recently i've been assuming it was a problem with my code but now i'm not so sure... -
User exit code does not execute
I'm having a problem with User exit code that does not execute yet seems to be set up correctly.
The User exit is implemented as FM "EXIT_SAPLIPW1_001" in function group XQSM.
I've tried everything I know of with the CMOD and SMOD transactions, and I suspect some sort of transport error.
The only clue I can find in comparing the development system (which works) with the test system (which does not work) is that running "Extended Check" in SE80 on function group XQSM fails with the following error:
"The namespace of program SAPLXQSM has the setting "C" and cannot be tested."
Has anyone any idea what could have happened?Let us try to retrace the steps.
1. You created a Z project in CMOD and assigned the enhancement IQSM0001 and the component EXIT_SAPLIPW1_001 and activated the same. This is there in the transport.
2. You double clicked on the include in the user exit and created it. You activated the code and included it in the same transport.
If you did the above steps, then your user exit should be active in your test system.
Can you please go to SE10, and list out the objects in your transport? You should see entries in there like below(not necessarily a complete list)
R3TR CMOD <your project name>
R3TR PROG ZXQSMU01
See if you created any of the objects as local objects.

Pass exit code from batch file to MDT 2012?
So i have batch file that creates some directories, sets up the path for log files before i install an application ( msi installer).
It goes something like this :
MD C:\mylogfolders
Set logfilename = C:\mylogfolders\appl1-date.log
msiexec /i app1.msi /qb REBOOT="ReallySuppress" /l*e "%logfilename%"
exit /B %errorlevel%
This batch file was imported into MDT along with the msi files, and the silent command is running this batch file.
The installation works fine, the log produced also indicates it is successfully installed, with error code 0. I double confirmed the errorlevel variable is 0 by echoing it.
But at the summary pane, it always shows warning with error code 255 for this application. Is there any other way to pass the error code to MDT??The "exit /B %errorlevel%" line seems redundant. Why have the last line return the errorcode from the previous line?
if this is an application run though ZTIApplications I would use the following:
msiexec.exe /q app1.msi /qb reboot=ReallySuppress /l*e %logpath%\app1.msi

Exit codes from the Java Virtual machine
Hi,
I've been asked to write a C wrapper program on UNIX and Windows which launches java (or java.exe) with the appropriate command line options and jar files to run an application.
So far so good.
However, I can't find any documentation saying how the status code returned by java or java.exe is constituted. e.g. How do you tell an error returned by the virtual machine, such as NoClassDefFoundError due to a missing jar or entry point, from a status code returned by a running Java application?
Are the possible status codes returned by the JVM documented anywhere? Are they the same on UNIX and Windows? Should the Java application use a particular range of return status codes so they don't collide with the JVM's own?
Thanks in advance for any pointers on the subject.Ah, I see, you're asking what if any existing codes are returned by the JVM implementation.Yep, that's it. I need to know that if the application chooses to use System.Exit to return (say) status code 2 meaning "your print job is queued", that the JVM won't ever return 2 meaning "couldn't find your application jar files" or some other generic condition outside the application's control.
I can move the application's return codes into a specific value range, as long as I can find one that is guaranteed safe for JVMs on both UNIX and Windows. Sounds like that's a bit optimistic. Thanks for the source code suggestion, but don't really have control over the customers' choice of JVM. -
Hi all,
I've a problem with windows shell, I've search through the entire forum database without success.
I need to return a custom exit code to the windows shell that is calling the Form Builder application (through Form Builder runtime). By this way I can determine from an another application (calling my forms through window shell) if I pressed one button or another.
How i can solve this problem?
I use Form Builder 6
Thanks a lotI need to open a Forms application from an HTML page and get a custom exit code from this application in order to use it in the HTML page.
With Javascript I call a shell function to start the forms application and ask to the HTML page to wait to the application exit code response.
The shell command I execute from Javascript is described bellow:
WshShell.run("c:\...\...\ifrun60.exe formname.fmx parametername=parameter",1,true)
where parameter identified a specific code that I've to send from HTML page to Forms application.
The page is waiting for application response. When I close the Forms application I receive the '0' code. What I need is to customize this exit code from my forms application.
Thanks to all -
How do I get the return value from an executable?
I'm running an external executable from dbms_scheduler but how do I get the exit code from the program run or any screen output?
Hi,
In the additional_info column of schedulerjob_run_details there should be something like
job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: Operation not permitted
"Operation not permitted" is the error code (as translated by the errors header file for that platform).
In releases 10.2 and up there may also be a line in the additional_info
STANDARD_ERROR="Error text here"
This gives the standard error messages output by the application. There is no way to get the standard output of the application.
Hope this helps,
Ravi. -
Javaws stdout stderr and the exit code
Hi,
I would like to write a java app that will launch jnlp app.
The task by itself is simple, but I have a few questions:
1. Every time JNLP app is launched (failed or not) I get the same exit code from javaws is ALWAYS = 0 Any reason why?
2. In case of the failure, I can not get the actual error/message to the std out/err I would like to log it to my own log file.
3. Debug parameters are not inherited by the JVM launched from JNLP. How to debug the actual app running in the sandbox?
Is there any doc that describes execution sequence of javaws.exe?
Can JNLP app live in the same JVM as javaws?
The code looks like this:
public static void main(String... args) throws IOException {
List<String> command = new ArrayList<String>();
command.add(new StringBuilder().append(System.getProperty("java.home"))
.append(File.separator)
.append("bin")
.append(File.separator)
.append("javaws.exe").toString());
// this does not work the way I want. It sets debug flags on javaws JVM but not on the jvm that runs out JNLP file
if (args.length > 0 && "debug".equalsIgnoreCase(args[0])) {
command.add("-wait");
command.add("-J-Xdebug");
command.add("-J-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5433");
command.add("-J-Ddeployment.javaws.traceFileName=" + System.getProperty("logging.dir") + File.separator + "javaws.trace");
command.add("-J-Ddeployment.trace.level = all");
command.add(configurationManager.getProperty("ws.url"));
ProcessBuilder pb = new ProcessBuilder(command);
pb.redirectErrorStream(true);
log.info("About to start - " + command);
Process pr = pb.start();
IOWrapper inWrapper = new IOWrapper(pr.getInputStream(), "JWS OUTPUT", log);
Thread inThread = new Thread(inWrapper, inWrapper.getTag());
inThread.setDaemon(true);
inThread.start();
try {
int exitVal = pr.waitFor();
log.info("ExitValue: " + exitVal);
} catch (InterruptedException e) {
log.error("Received interrupt", e);
}Thank you for help.what about

Error while executing UNIX script from BODS - exit code 127
I am trying to execute a unix script by calling it in BODS job. It is giving an error saying Program terminated with exit code 127. The same script when i am executing in UNIX it is working fine. I am unable to trace the issue.
Hi Sabre,
As per the guidelines provided by the article, i had done below changes..
InputStream is = null;
InputStreamReader iStreamReader = null;
BufferedReader bReader = null;
String line = null;
try{
String fileName ="test.ksh";
String argValue ="satish"; // value passed to the script
String exeParam = "/usr/bin/ksh "+fileName+" "+argValue;
Process proc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(exeParam);
is = proc.getErrorStream();
iStreamReader = new InputStreamReader(is);
bReader = new BufferedReader(iStreamReader);
System.out.println("<ERROR>");
while((line = bReader.readLine()) != null)
System.out.println("Error is : "+line);
System.out.println("</ERROR>");
int exitValue = proc.waitFor();
sop("Exit Value is : "+exitValue);
catch(Exception e)
e.printStackTrace();
Now , it's showing something like..

Error: ORA-03113 while executing complex java code from Oracle PL/SQL
Hi,
I am trying to execute a complex java code from Oracle PL/SQL. The classes were resolved successfully. But in the middle of execution, I am getting the following error:
ERROR:
ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
begin
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
Process ID: 13685
Session ID: 21 Serial number: 20
Is there a way to debug the Java classes loaded into oracle? Or is there any utility to find out why the connection was lost?
Regards,
SaravanaHi Saravana:
You could use simply System.out.println(..) at your Java code and see the output at the .trc files generated for your Oracle session.
Or better than this adding Java Util Logging messages at your code, to see how to use JUL API at the OJVM please see this blog post [Using JUL API inside the OJVM|http://marceloochoa.blogspot.com/2007/11/getting-logging-entering-exiting-and.html].
Best regards, Marcelo.
PD: ora-0600 generally are associated with RDBMS bugs, but these bugs can be bypassed by replacing the code which throws the exception by other with a workaround. -
ORA-27369: job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: Not owner
Hi
I created a backup RAC database job using DBMS_SCHEDULER under RMANTEST schema (a DBA account) and I got the error as subject.
begin
dbms_scheduler.create_job(
job_name => 'scheduler_backup',
job_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
number_of_arguments => 2,
job_action => '/opt/oracle/admin/bin/rman_fullbackup_RAC_TEST_test.sh',
comments => 'backup via scheduler'
dbms_scheduler.SET_JOB_ARGUMENT_VALUE('scheduler_backup', 1, 'TEST');
dbms_scheduler.SET_JOB_ARGUMENT_VALUE('scheduler_backup', 2, 'TEST2');
dbms_scheduler.enable('scheduler_backup');
end;
Thanks,
KevinHi Ravi
Thanks for your input.
"ORA-27369: job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: Not owner" is what I copied from ADDITIONAL_INFO of USER_SCHEDULER_JOB_RUB_DETAILS.
One thing I don't understand of your words is that
"On 10gR1 and 10gR2 you can redirect the stdout/stderr within your script and take a look at those log files."
In my script, I have log files but I cannot see it. I guess the job fails directly without hitting the redirection line in the script. Do you mean I shall write something like this
dbms_scheduler.create_job (
job_action => '/opt/oracle/admin/bin/backup.sh > backup.log'
Another one is
"make sure that the user that external jobs run as must be able to run your script"
But OS user and database user are two different accounts at different level.
I am using 10.2.0.2 RAC. The Unix script runs successfully every night. I just want to take advantage of DBMS_SCHEDULER to avoid host dependency.
Thanks,
Kevin -

ORA-27369: job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: Incorrect function
Hello,
I am calling a windows bat file using dbms_scheduler and getting the following error. I have searched the forum and the internet and tried different switches and options. None of them solved my problem.
Oracle Version: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
OracleJobScheduler is running as a service

*Cause: A problem was encountered while running a job of type EXECUTABLE.
The cause of the actual problem is identified by the exit code.
*Action: Correct the cause of the exit code and reschedule the job.
Here is the code for scheduler
dbms_output.put_line(os_commandline || utlPath || fileSeparator || 'get.bat >nul')
dbms_scheduler.create_job

dbms_scheduler.run_job(job_name =>'PS_GET_RESULTS');The dbs_output prints a line which shows that the parameters os_commandline, utlPath and fileSeparator are set correctly.
C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /q /c E:\UTLDir\get.bat >nulThe windows file (get.bat) is:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\WinSCP\Winscp.exe" /script=e:\utldir\get_resultsThis batch file passes a script file to the executable winscp.exe to get files from another server.
The script file (get_results) is:
option batch abort
option confirm off
open sftp://username:password@ipnumber:port -hostkey="ssh-rsa 1024 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
cd /usr/dropbox/
option transfer binary
get *.results E:\UTLDir\Results\
close
exitI tested the batch file directly and works fine and "gets" the files from the server. But, invoking from Oracle dbms_scheduler fails with ORA-27369: job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: Incorrect function.
Appreciate your help and time in suggesting additional guidelines or pointers.
Thanks,
RoseHere is an update, if somebody else is having a similar problem.
The ftp command "cd" to change the directories should be an absolute path. I was given a path "/usr/dropbox/", but on the server it actually corresponds to "/usr/local/apps/dropbox/". After updating the directory path, the scheduler worked fine in invoking the batch file for transferring the files.
Thanks,
Rose
