Exit/minimize block is blacked out
I have ms W8 and after the latest firefox upgrade a few days ago the exit minimize box in the upper lefthand corner of the page is blocked and I cannot see and graphics on common sites such as facebook and Mozilla support when going to this sites throught firefox. I also cannot play nay videos on any site. When I use explorer or chrome all funtions are normal. Please help.

Also, scrolling functionality isn't working; when I try to scroll most of the time it is unresponsive and whether or not it responds to the scrolling the Entire page (everything below the tabs to the taskbar) has a better than even chance of blacking out. Tinkering with moving my mouse pointer or clicking in random places will get rid of these.
I've restarted the browser in Safe Mode, Reinstalled, Restarted computer, Drivers were updated incidentally on Friday (before this started), Full virus scan on Thursday morning. When I restart Firefox in Safe Mode the problems aren't as bad by an order of magnitude, but still bad enough to be unusable.
Firefox is essentially unusable for me at this point. Since I can't downgrade to 7, I'm very close to just washing my hands and switching to Chrome (which I dislike).Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver. -
When I load up some sites like Facebook with the desktop version so I can have all the options that the app and mobile site doesn't have Safari blacks out and takes me to my main front page on my iPhone 4S and it also happens when I'm using some apps. Why is this? I'm upto date with iOS 7.0.4. Is there a way to stop this happening? Clearing up etc?
ThanksI spoke to ipod tech support and was told "We do not support itunes. It is only a web based support" Which apparently does not exist.

Random laptop screen Black out / Turn off .

first of all my laptop is : HP Pavilion dv6-6160se Entertainment Notebook
to the problem now
A few days ago my laptops screen started out of a sudden shutting down/turning black( no lights at all ). This was happening while using the laptop at random. The screen had no lights, and if i use a flashlight on it there is nothing. like its turned off completelly.
Before this happens. Ths behavior varies. Sometimes it flickers from my desktop to a black screen then back on and some times not. Most of the times screen changed to a radom color (green mostly) then becomes black/shuts down.
NOTE: The laptop keeps runing, i can hear the videos playing so it probably isnt a gpu chip or gpu issue , music and games.
I searched the web for all kind of reasons that this could happen and tried some of the fixes .
Here are everything i tried and all or the details i could accumulate in past coupe of days:
1. If the screen flickers , blacks out and then turns back on i get a message that gpu drivers have stopped working and recovered ( on both amd and intel ).
2. If the screen blacks out, on rare ocasions if you close the laptop lid and let the laptop go to sleep , when waking up screen works again ( noticable due to screen moving)
3. I tried installing 4 different drivers all with clear install. ( didn't work)
4. I tried to to recover system with restore point. ( didn't work)
5. I tried to lower the screen brightness. ( didn't work)
6. tried this trick:
Turn off laptop
Remove battery
Hold the power buttong for 30-45 seconds
Plug-in the charger ( dont put the battery in )
Turn on laptop and see if it works.
Very Noticable details:
7. Since on of the rare fixes requires to move the lid i tried shaking the screen a bit or pushing it slightly to different directions. This actually does the trick and turns the screen back on ( i am right now typing this after using this "trick"
So, with this one as a hint there are a couple of stuff i have in mind but i am not sure and need help since i am not a technician.
a) There is a loose LCD cable and when i type a little vibration moves it and ends up in a black screen.
b) I read that if you use a flashlight and you cant see your desktop it means its a bad inverter.
c) Can the inverter have a lose cabe instead of the lcd ?
That's all the feedback i could give you that i can recall now.
Currecntly the screen looks ok ( maybe its the certain angle it has after i moved it so i would aprecciate a fast reply before it goes black again
EDIT: Tried to play a game for a few mins and i got the black screen again. Closed the lid so the laptop goes in sleep mode then opened it and it worked. Just for the records.
EDIT#2: Just tried to play a game again. got the blackscreen, shaked the screen a bit and it worked but for the 1st time i get the message " Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" , Can it be that its the GPU after all or maybe drivers?
EDIT#3: Tried to play a game again and it seem to trigger the issue . ( i am currently running the laptop with only the intel drivers installed)

I have read through your post and it seems there are a couple of possibilities, and I noted that you have already tried several of the things I would normally suggest.
I will however post some of those links anyway for you to review, it is always possible there may be something in one of them that may have been missed or may inspire an idea of the cause. Since you mentioned that sometimes just moving the screen will cause the problem or make it disappear, that does seem like either a loose connection or maybe something like pressure on a part of the display causing the issue. Of course that last part may just mean the display is on its last legs, but hopefully not.
First I will give you a link to the service manual, to help you check the connections. Just be careful to read the sections on precautions, to protect yourself and to prevent any other damage.This manual is also useful in that it lists all the compatible parts, so if the display is defective you could use this guide to help order a compatible replacement if you choose to do so. Why my notebook sometimes blacks out, in windows 7, when I watch video online or just browse some web pages which contains quite a lot pictures?
1. I am not sure whether it is the problem of the graphic hardware, relevant softwares or the system itself.
2. I am not sure whether browsing a webpage with a lot pictures would make the graphic hardware, or other hardwares if possible, massively burdened and then just crash.
3. Or if possible, is the reason that the heat dissipation doesn't work well?
I am looking forward to any replies that might be helpful. Really appreciated.it could be heat, not enough RAM, but you don't tell us enough.
There is no reason to assume this is anything other than running Windows natively btw.
Browser of course matters probably the most.
I like IE10 now, but use to use FF until recently. I'd like Chrome except for a few concerns I have over using it, it can eat up a lot of RAM and it builds up HUGE disk cache if you don't clear history and cache on exit and run CCleaner regularly ( good for all browsers )
So assuming 64-bit and 4GB or more and core i5 or better...
Also make sure Wiindow has 10GB of free space or more.
Biggest concern is what happens afterwards and whether you have run a check of your hard drive (chkdsk on startup) or if the problem cascades and gets progressively worse on top of the first - like do you have to do hard restart or able to bring up Task Mgr and kill or better yet, Resource Mgr and see if you have any thread locks.
Safari is not well versed in multithreading and handling what you want to do and are doing. IE9 isi usually good but I found it could not handle a lot of tumblr photo streams and sites. Try Chrome. With Firefox, use noscript, blashblock and see how it goes. -
Using Black Outer Glow: no joy.
In Illustrator CS3 I've tried using a black outer glow around text objects with success.
However, when I place said text over another coloured object (i.e. a white square), the outer glow doesn't appear correctly. I can see the outer glow peeking out from underneath the coloured object but NOT surrounding the letters themselves. When I drag the text to an empty area, the black outer glow appears as it should. It's as though the effect is there, but is somehow blocked by the underlying object. I've re-started Illustrator, opened new files, etc. I can't seem to solve this problem on my own.
If anyone has some kind of answer, I'd appreciate it!I'm using CS4 Mac.
Outer glow set to black and Normal or Multiply works fine against a white rectangle that's larger than the text. But if I reduce the size of that rectangle so its edges fall inside the text, the glow's spread appears to change as it crosses the rectangle. The spread (density and size) is stronger over the rectangle than over the artboard beyond it. The transition is so abrupt that one can actually "see" the edges of the rectangle.
One might assume this is somehow a function of the artboard's "vector transparency" which interacts differently with the glow effect than an object painted white. And maybe there is some explanation along those lines, but it's beyond my technical grasp. If, for example, I place a larger, second rectangle -- white or another color -- behind the first one (so it's lowest in the stack of three objects) that unsightly transition vanishes.
More important (and a reason to doubt the hypothesis above) is that Tom's drop shadow technique does not produce this problem. The drop shadow is even over the edges of the small white rectangle and out onto the artboard.
So there's something going on there with the outer glow effect.... -
I bought my iphone around January last year, i've been having problems with it really since the first three months. I haven't really 'bothered' to do anything about the problems i've encounted because of sheer laziness (bad on my part i know) however it has now become beyond irritating.
the problems are:
1) when calling the phone freezes, the screen blacks out, meaning i am unable to cancel the call.. which results in most of my friends and family having very long answer machine messages, funny at first but bloody annoying. i cannot bring it back to the main screen unless i reset, sometimes it flashes back but the screen doesnt appear to register my touch.
2) i'm not sure if my screen is extra sensitive or (lol) i hold my phone to close against my face, i endlessy put people on hold or call other people in my phone book. i'm not sure if its my cheek or the actual iphone?
I havent ever restored my iphone
i do not have excessive amounts of photos/apps/dodgy apps
and i do not have any songs/videos on it either.

Standard def STB repeatedly blacks out for a second or 2
A site search on "black out" does not turn up a similar issue, of course it may be my search skills are lacking.
New subsciber since Sep 2010. I have 3 boxes, 2 standard QIP2500 phase 3 (basement/MBR) and 1 hi-def (LR). Hi def TV in MBR, standard in other 2. Both standards would on occassion 'black out' for just a second or 2 ever since original install. No problem with the hi-def. One standard is wired with coax, one with s-video, the hi-def with HDMI. When the black out occurs, the screen will freeze for an instant, then the screen goes black, then it comes back. The information on the box does not black out, the TVs don't power-off and restart. It's just the screen goes blank and then comes back. It happens without any seeming warning, and will happen at any time of day. Sometimes it will happen repeatedly, sometimes it won't happen for a long time. Both boxes have been repeatedly reset and rebooted with no improvement. During one tech call the tech had me relocate one of the standard boxes to the hi-def location to isolate that it wasn't a location (in-house cable) problem. I thought it curious since it was happening at 2 different locations but went through the drill anyway. The relocated standard worked for a few minutes, then went black for a second as the problem does. Plugging the high-def back in resolved the issue at that location. The tech said he would send 2 new standard boxes. The replacement boxes have not resolved the issue. Any suggestions?if it's doing that on two different boxes using both coax and s-video then I think that leaves a possibility of the coax. that would be a unusual symptom of a bad coax/splitter but try this.
Wait for it to start acting up - when it starts acting up, stay tuned to that station, and hit your menu > customer support > in home agent > network diagnostics and click ok to start.
check the video signal using that menu selection. after it's done running it will give you a general message like "you're video signals are not in the optimal range" after you see that, hit info and then look at the SNR DB it should give you a number.
32-36 is optimal, below that is questionable.
If it is below that then it's probably going to be a problem with the splitter at your house, and you would either replace it yourself, or call verizon to replace it. be sure to tell them the DB -
MBP C2D 15" display blacks out!
My week old MBP C2D 15" blacks out on me. I find that it happens when applying light pressure on the back side, at a surface square underneath F1 - F5 - F - Caps Lock. Light pressure makes it flicker, a little harder results in complete black out. Obviously a production fault and I will of course take it in when I have time... this is my work tool so no way I can just leave it in for days. But that is another issue. Maybe someone else experience the same black out? My build is 8N1037

Did you find out the reason? The same message shows up in the system.log of my iMac Core Duo after the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update, but the iMac works fine.
Cleaning all caches, repair user rights, PRAM and SMC Reset didnt help. Also no luck with Preferential Treatment tool to check for corrupted preference files, it didnt find corrupted plist files. -
Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15" Blacks Out Without Warning
Quick Summary of Problem: My MacBook Pro is currently shutting down without warning. It would be more accurate to say that the screen goes blank but the machine remains on as can be heard by the fan. Nothing resolves it without powering down and restarting. It has occurred when attached to a power source or via the battery.
My machine specs: Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15” with 500GB hard drive, 8GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics/nVidia GeForce GT 330M with 512MB, anti-glare 15” screen with max resolution 1680 x 1050). Running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with 2013-001 Security Patch installed.
I have AppleCare which commenced when I first bought the machine in July 2010.
System Profiler says my battery condition is ‘Normal’. Cycle count: 610.
Detailed Summary of Problem: Back in January, my MacBook Pro shut down several times without warning. Each time, I was creating selections on high resolution imagery in Adobe Photoshop CS5.
Not long after, I saw the ‘MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7’ relased on Feb 12 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1633) and installed it via Software Update. By coincidence or not, my MBP behaved much better afterwards and the seemingly random blank screens requiring a restart disappeared.
But then I installed the ‘Security Update 2013-001 (Snow Leopard)’(http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1642) via Software Update and that’s the only thing I can really remember changing to my system. Since then, the black-outs have reappeared. As before, I was usually using Photoshop and working with high resolution imagery. However, one time the machine blacked-out, I was simply doing a two-finger scroll on the built-in trackpad whilst in Chrome (Version 25.0.1364.172).
The blackout has occurred twice now not being connected to power, and twice with it being connected to a wall socket. Needless to say, I lost work in Photoshop (even though I’ve begun to save more regularly) and now it feels like it’s a ticking time bomb and I don’t know when it’s going to go off.
One thing I’ve found rather odd is that in the crash log, the kernal version doesn’t seem right for Snow Leopard:

Fixes I’ve tried:
1) Resetting the NV-RAM has done nothing. (was suggested
2) I’ve tried reinstalling the ‘MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7’ by downloading the manual installer from Apple, however it now says ‘Alert: This software is not supported on your system’ which in a way makes sense given I’d already applied the firmware update, but a more accurate message along the lines of ‘This firmware update has already been installed’ would be more reassuring.
3) If all else fails, I could resort to copying over a backup I created with Carbon Copy Cloner, which was done before I reinstalled the 2013-001 Security Update for Snow Leopard. But that’s a bit of a headache too, because my documents I’ve updated since the backup will be out of sync. Another reason this isn’t a great solution is that I can’t take advantage of the 2013-001 security update, nor future ones.
Any suggestions? There’s probably no good time for something like this to happen, but this is a particularly bad time – I’m currently beginning design and finished art freelancing and brushing up on some applications I haven’t used in years. Nor am I going to make an impression meeting with recruiters without my folio being presented from my MBP.
I’ve already booked a Genius appointment 2.5 days from now, but all help and ideas greatly appreciated!

However, the issue described by TS4088 is not a soldering problem. It is a Latent Defect -- a flaw built into certain batches of those chips from the day they were packaged and installed.
If your Mac fails the VST test used to detect this Latent Defect, re-flowing the solder is likely to have NO EFFECT on its performance -- the solution is the remove the defective chip and replace with a good one.
There certainly can be problems in these and other Macs where a re-flow would be beneficial. But I caution Readers not to generalize your solution to Macs that are known to fail VST. Re-flow alone will not solve the Latent Defect problem. -
In my Macbook Pro, on a few occassions, the apple menu bar blacks out. its displayed as a negative image. The desktop wallpaper get greyed out and i get a blank screen as wallpaper. No idea why this happens. I reset the system and issue gets resolved.

My app Injustice Gods Among Us is really being a pain. It started blacking out around a week ago, and it wont let me in to the game. I was told to delete the app, and redownload and rebbot my Ipad, but it didnt work. And I lost all my characters, like Lobo, Batgirl, Darkseid, and a ton of others. Can anyone help me? My neighbor got the app, and his works fine! What the heck.

Prior saved .pdf sometimes has blacked out content. How can I prevent this?
I use Mac OS 9 Maverick, read email in Mail.app and Yahoo.Mail, switch between Safari and Firefox for browsing (because Safari does not allow Flash videos to appear on pages). When I want to save an email or an html file or report as .pdf, I use Command-P and select Save As PDF from the Print popup. Normally, I can go back years later and read the .pdf document in the Home File I filed it in using Adobe Reader. Sometimes, however, when I open a .pdf file--and I cannot tell prior to opening it--all of the content has been blacked out. It is as if someone redacted the document after filing it, which I don't do.
How can I prevent these redactions? The content being blacked out varies from extremely personal and important health files to simple email correspondence I want to save. Sometimes I have paid for a document and have to contact the publisher to send hard copy via USPS due to this problem.
What am I missing here? Do I need a specific plug-in? Is there a way to retrieve the blacked-out content from my computer stored file?

Macbook Pro- shortly after upgrading to free software upgrade to Mavericks- 10.9.5-
has suddenly been freezing up, but went more directly to 'shutting down,' CRASHING on its own. Most of the time, if I'm even able to successfully get the laptop turned back on, it only stays up/on for a few moments before repeating the failure. The failure is often accompanied with the monitor going 'blank,' or most typically either 'blacking out,' or going blue/green or grey screen with lines or grids all over the monitor. All Desktop visibility, functions or applications in process disappears. This has caused repetetive 'forced shut downs,' which I never usually do, unless prompted to because I have no choice like this.... Or as I said, the computer itself will just shut down and turn off by itself.... Can anyone tell me what this issue is, and I'm pretty sure other Mac users have seen this exact thing I'm describing happening on their laptops, with their systems or on their monitors. Someone please explain or point me in the right direction... as naturally my laptop just went out of warranty as well.... And I don't know if this means the entire system is basically corrupted, dying/dead... and or if it is a monitor issue, a hardware issue, software issue or if there is anything that can be done to restore, repair it, etc.? Also another thing I have noticed ever since getting this laptop- (few years old now...) is that it runs VERY HOT... has in fact burned my lap /skin many times... and seems like the fan or internal operating systems/functions are also perhaps not functioning properly. Can this also be causing the problem? Or is it a corruption or virus of some kind? etc. Thank you.What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.
