Exit playlist and return to all songs on iPod
I put a playlist on my iPod classic for this morning's workout. Now I'm at work and want to listen to other songs but I can't seem to "exit" the playlist. Is there a way to tell the iPod to leave the playlist without resyncing to my MacBook (which is at home)?
the hold button is off. when i return to the "music" menu, if i look at artists, albums, songs, etc. i only see the artists/albums/songs/etc in the playlist. so instead of seeing 3500 songs, i see 16. if i look under "settings", i have it on shuffle: songs and repeat: all, but it's only playing the 16 songs from the playlist. so that's what i mean about exiting the playlist... how do i tell iPod, listening to the playlist was nice and all, but i'd like to see all my music now.

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.

How do you take all the songs of a specific artist, and put them into a separate new playlist- and have those same songs OUT of my regular itunes library??

Create a new playlist option flag called, perhaps, "Exclusive source" or just "Source". When set this would make the playlist appear within the sources section under the built-in sources such as Music, Movies, Audiobooks etc. Any files moved into one of these playlists would not appear in any other source. Either regular or smart playlists could be used. This feature could be used, for example, to create separate library sections for Classical Music or Comedy. This would make it less likely that totally incongruous pieces would be thrown up during shuffle play modes as Shuffle would work within a source. Such user-defined sections should also be replicated to the iPod and could inherit the same sub-sections as Music, i.e. Cover Flow, Artist, Album, Genre etc.
If you don't use the Audiobooks section for it's intended purpose, single-tracked audiobooks then, from iTunes 8.0, you can easily set the kind of multiple tracks to Audiobook and use this source as a dumping area for all the files you don't want to show up in Music. I have a number of multi-tracked audiobooks for which nested playlists is the only way to make them navigable on the iPod.

i have recently installed windows 7 and want to transfer songs from ipod but most have been put on via cd then tranfered to ipod touch.last time i done this when ipod synced up it wiped every song
The ipod is not a storage/backup device.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your computer. -
when i was at my soccer game i realized that someone opened a bottle of gatorade and poured it all over my iPod touch 5th gen. it had a whole in the upper right side and thats were the gatorade went in. it won't turn on, but heats up if i try to charge it. i put it in a bag of ice for about a 3weeks.Still wont turn on.WHAT CAN I DO? Playlist and duplication of the songs
Hello,
First of all i would like to know why a great company like apple computers does not suport an email for the customers, (maybe there is an email support but i could not find it).
THE PROBLEM : I create a playlist named for example (My Albums), and i want to insert a hole album. So far so good. But if i make the mistake to reinsert the same album in the same playlist (drag and drop), then itunes does not inform me about the duplication but it simply inserts the songs again. Unfortunatelly i have to delete them song by song. It is very boring!!!! I beleive that i do not make any mistake and i think that this is a problem of the program. I suggest that it would be great if in the next version of itunes this problem would be solved!!

Create the playlist (Playlist 1).
Before adding songs to it, create a new smart playlist called Not Playlist 1.
Match rule Playlist is not Playlist 1.
Select this and drag songs from this smart playlist to the other playlist.
If the song is already in Playlist 1, it will not show up in in the smart playlist to be able to drag to Playlist 1. -
IPhone: Spotify app playlist doesn't load all songs
Hi Guys, I created a playlist on my computer with at least 50+ songs on it.However, on my iPhone, despite recognising the playlist correctly, it won't recognise all songs!? Hi there, and thanks for the welcome, but I've been a member on here since 27-04-2012. :) I haven't got any local files on this particular playlist, no. It's still only showing 19 tracks... it's definitly way more than 19 in that playlist. Don't know what's causing the issue. It's fine on my PC, just seemed to have "stopped" syncing or recognising more songs on my iphone App. I have even gone as far as already deleting my spotify app and reload ALL my offline playlists back on my phone today.

Syncing playlists/all songs (mutliple ipods)
Ok, kind of confusing here. I have a 30gig video ipod and a 16gig ipod touch that i have synced to the same library. I am at the point now that the 16 gig ipod is almost full after syncing all songs and all playlist. The problem now is that i want to be able to keep adding more and more playlists to my 30 gig ipod.
Now the questions i have are:
Is there any way to sync all song and playlists EXCEPT certain playlists?
Is there any way to set up a smart playlist to include all songs so that i can sync that playlist and the other playlists i want for each ipod? If so, how?
I know i could set up a separate library for each ipod but i really wanna leave that as a last resort.
anyway, thanks in advance for any help.The previous answer is incorrect. It is possible to sync ALL songs and only certain playlists. The trick is to make a smart playlist. Call it whatever you want. Under the settings of the smart playlist choose "playlist is"... "Music" where Music is the main music list default of iTunes with the blue music note as shown at the top of your library. This is the main list of music according to iTunes. This will send a copy of all the music files over to iPod. Then manually select playlists to sync (instead of automatic). The drawback is if you want to sync most of your playlists it may take a while to select all of the ones you want. Of course don't forget to check the smart playlist you just created.

I recently noticed that a ton of songs weren't playing all the way through and I tried to sync them up. That led to "restoring" my iPod a few times. Finally able to sync and get all songs and podcasts and photos onto my iPod, but along with an error message that the sync couldn't be done due to an unknown error 13010. The songs are there but I can't do anything with them such as make playlists or even change how they're listed. This is incredibly frustrating as NOTHING has happened to this iPod to cause this to happen.
AND i already tried to delete the iTunes library genius.itdb file!!

My computer crashed and we lost all songs on itunes!!!
my computer crashed and erased all 2000+ songs on my computer along with it.... does anyone know any way to take the songs on my ipod and put them back into my library... my brother put his ipod on the comupter and it erased all his songs and i dont want that to happen to me... i called up apple support yesterday and the girl on the other line said she would send me an email telling me step by step how to do it and either she never sent or i never got it... and i called up today and was told that i had to spend 50 dollars for the support call and that there was no way to do it... which is bull

Can't edit a specific playlist and change order of songs.
I set up a new playlist and am unable to move the songs around to the order I want. My other playlists are letting me edit/move around the order without a problem. How can I access the edit feature for my "blocked" playlist.
If you want to order your songs manually select your playlist and display your playlist in the browser,
then click on the header row - the small triangle in the leftmost column.
Then you should be able to drag your songs into the correct order. -
Itunes wont list all songs on ipod, only some of them
My itunes doesn’t list all the songs on my ipod, only some of them. (Only the ones uploaded after a certain date, when I think I forgot to eject my ipod one day).
The ipod definitely has all the albums I've ever uploaded on it. I know because I've tried looking on my friends’ computer and his DOES show all songs on my ipod.
Sounds like a PC problem, not an ipod problem, right? So I tried re-installing itunes, but that doesn’t fix it.

Select the iPod as the Source. Do not select any of the playlists on the iPod, just select the iPod itself.

To make a long story short, I'm helping out a friend who just converted from a PC notebook to a Mac Pro. A sweet choice, I know...
But he thought that he had backed up all of his music on an external but erased it thinking he had backed up his collection elsewhere. So now his collection of music is lost, except for that his songs are still on his iPod classic. It's not stored in disk mode, unfortunately. It's just synched up normally.
There must be a way to put his songs on his new computer. We've scoured the forums and can't find much. Can you help, please?For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer. -

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.
