Exiting a Runtime Process without calling destroy()
I have a child process that I have started with Runtime.getRuntime.exec(). Is there any way to stop this process without allowing the child process to run to completion or calling Process.destroy()?

If on Unix/Linux, you can exec some script code to run "ps" to find your process (perhaps by examining the command line) and send it a SIGTERM via "kill".

How to run the variable exit without calling the variable selection screen?
Hi all
I have a query with 2 variables 0P_PRQUA (Previous Calendar Quarter (SAP Exit)) and ZCCDAT02.
ZCCDAT02 is a Key Date variable that is derived based on the last day of the quarter that is entered in 0P_PRQUA. The exit code works correctly when calling up the variable screen and ZCCDAT02 is derived properly.
The problem is that 0P_PRQUA is set to "Can be changed in query navigation". So if the user changes the value of the quarter the exit is not triggered and the value of ZCCDAT02 does not change.
Is it possible to trigger the exit or is there another way to do it? Ideas would be appreciated. I am trying to create a Web Template with a Dropbox box for the Quarter.
Query is written in BW 3.X.
Regards
ChamiHi guys
Just to restate the requirement. I want the user to be able to change the value of the variable, WITHOUT calling the variable selection screen.
I want the user to be able to change the value of the quarter by using a dropdown box from within the web template. Once that is selected I want the value of ZCCDAT02 to be derived from the new value of the quarter.

Calling a Business process without using RMI nor WS.
For efficience reasons we are interested in calling business processes from java classes deployed in the same server that WLI but without using RMI calls.
In the documentation it's said that you are able to call Business Processes via WebServices, or via the JPD Proxy. This proxy could be used from a java class but it uses RMI.
<b>There is an intermediate interface that we could use for executing processes without using RMI?.</b> Is this interface java accesible or we have to develop a Wrapper to adapt the call?
Thank's, David.Hi,
I experienced the same behaviour with my setup here - only he ws-addressing is used. I am using Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0.
After redeploying the process several times, i gave up ...
I wonder if the correlation property is entirely ignored ?
Thanks in advance,

Dynpro call during processing -- Without PBO, Dynpro remains visible
Hello!
My problem is as follows:
During the build of a tree hierarchy, i check how long the work is going on since starting the process. If work lasts longer than an amount of time, i interrupt processing and call a function that calls a Dynpro. After leaving to screen 0, I continue processing but as no pbo is called, the before called Dynpro remains visible on screen until procession finished and a pbo is executed by system.
Is there any possibility to tell the Dynpro to disappear before PBO?
Many Thanks in advance,
ThomasHi Arnab!
Thanks for the fast reply!
But that's not the problem.
I'll try to show you what I've got:
In ABAP-Objects I've got a manager class that runs a method M.
In this Method M I'm extending a CL_GUI_ALV_TREE-Object by adding nodes recursively. In the recursive method I check if some conditions are false, and if so, call an ABAP-Function that calls a Dynpro. After leaving this Dynpro (by using leave to screen 0), the PBO of the parent Dynpro is not processed because process is still inside the recursive method. The update is done not before Method M and the recursive Method have been fully processed.
Method M.
loop at nodes.
call method build_nodes_recursively.
endloop.
endmethod M.
Method build_nodes_recursively.
if condition is false.
call function D. //Function call that calls Dynpro
if function_call_d is true.
return.
endif.
endif.
call method build_nodes_recursively. //recursive call.
endmethod build_nodes_recursively.
Maybe you understand my problem now?
Because there's no PBO of the parent Dynpro, recursive progress goes on after closing the child Dynpro but the child Dynpro is still visible until Method M is finished and PBO of the parent Dynpro is processed.
Thank you for helping,
Thomas

Hey guys,
I'm having some major issues installing PE8. I can open the installer screen fine, and it installs fine until it gets to installing the Air Runtime Process. I have left it downloading that one process for about 5 hours, and i'm not exaggerating. Finnally, I get too mad waiting for it to finish that I exit out of the installation process. Even though the installation was never fully finished, for some reason I do have a Desktop icon for PE8. I click on that and it opens the splash screen with the buttons "New project", "Open Project", and "Organize". When I try to open "New Project" it begins loading the files that it needs to to open it. When it gets to loading the Windows Media file, it freezes and then crashes.
I have uninstalled the PE8 and reinstalled it about 5 times now. I have also used the Windows Cleanup program to clean these corrupted files out of my system before reinstalling. I have called in twice now to the technical support and they haven't helped me one ounce. Any answers would be appreciated! Thanks
Thanks Again,
Spencer

User Exit for Inbound Process - Changing IDOC control record
Hi,
I want to utilize the identification field (under details tab) of the IDOC Control Record. What is the suitable user exit for inbound process that i can use to change the IDOC control record?It's been a long time since I have done any IDOC processing.
Go to SE37 and enter the function module IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS. Display the source code. Search for "CALL CUSTOMER". You should see several "CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION" lines. These are enhancements where you can manipulate the IDOC data. If you locate the correct one (where the data is read from the IDOC but not yet validated), you should be able to map the partner function value. Double-clicking on the number in quotes will bring you to an "EXIT_" function module. A "ZX" INCLUDE program is referenced. If you haven't used the exit yet, double-clicking on the ZX INCLUDE will create it. The values passed into the function module are available in the INCLUDE.
Ideally, you should create a project in transaction CMOD that references the chosen enhancement. This way you can activate/deactivate without commenting/uncommenting the code in the INCLUDE. -
User Exits for Inbound Process
hi all
can any one please give some example user exits in inbound process and explain the omportance of user exits
Thank you,
Swapnahi
Userxits allow us to add our own functionality to SAP standard program
without modifying it . These are implemented in the form of subroutines and hence are also known as FORM EXITs. The userexits are generally collected in includes and attached to the standard program by the SAP.
Types of User exits
1. Menu Exits
2.Function exits
3.Table exits
4.Screen exits
5.Keyword exits
6.Field exits.
also refer to the links below.. can get more info on user exits

Hi,
It is my understanding that only one forms runtime process is spawned per session.
Is this the case? So everytime you call a new form you shouldnt be opening a new
forms runtime process correct?
Thanks!Hi
CALL_FORM, OPEN_FORM, NEW_FORM are the Built-ins that will help us in creating “Multiple Form Applications”.
This built-in is used to invoke more than one form in a single session.
So everytime you call a new form you shouldnt be opening a new forms runtime process correct?If you are using
NEW_FORM, you are starting a new form and terminating the current EXISTING form.
OPEN_FORM opens the new Form but also keeps the calling form open and running.
The third way to execute another form is the
CALL_FORM builtin. This would call a new form and suspend execution of the calling form. Once the called form is exited, the control is returned to the calling form.
Usefull to see the On-Line help & pls Study this link...

Hope this helps

Threads, Process, exec( ), and destroy( )
I have the following code:
public class A extends Thread
private Process myProcess;
public synchronized void killProcess()
if(myProcess != null)
myProcess.destroy();
public void run()
try
synchronized(this)
myProcess = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "some process");
...... code to handle streams ..........
myProcess.waitFor();
catch(Exception e)
e.printStackTrace();
}One thread will be creating a Process and then waiting for it to finish. Another thread may
determine that the process needs to be destroyed. I cannot put the call to waitFor( ) in the
syncrhonized block bacause that would block any other operation on the Process.
Is it ok that two threads will be using the same reference at the same time?
Do you think there is any other problem with this code?
Thanks in advance!Doesnt look that good, however an important thing you
forgot so far if multiple threads are using the inner
var myProcess - you not only have to synchronize your
thread itself (methods) but also the object myProcess
too...Not really. Whoever wants to access the myProcess variable will have to go through killProcess which
is synchronized. So there is no way two threads can access this variable at the same time.
Well.. no way other than what my original question is: one thread calling waitFor( ) and another tread calling destroy( ).
But since waitFor( ) blocks, I cannot synchronize it. Btw, I have actually tried this code and it does exactly what I want, but I am just not sure if it's likely to see any unpleasant surprises at some point. -
Getting the Output Stream of a Process without exec()ing it first.
Hi there,
I am writing a java application which needs to open another application "gnuplot". Now my operating system is windows and I open pgnuplot .
Also I want to send input to the above gnuplot (say plot sin(x) ) via the outputStream. The following is what I do :-
String gnuplot_cmd = "plot sin(x)\n" ;
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:/gnuplot/gnuplot4/bin/pgnuplot.exe");
PrintWriter gp = new PrintWriter(p.getOutputStream());
gp.print(gnuplot_cmd);
gp.close();
But the above doesn't work fully , in that only the blank wgnuplot terminal window pops up however I am unable to direct input to the gnuplot application.
The reason being that , pgnuplot checks for
its stdin being redirected the moment it's started. If, at that time,
the "PrintWriter" is not yet connected to the OutputStream of the
process, that check will fail, and pgnuplot will revert to just executing
wgnuplot, without any command line redirection.
I am facing a problem of how to attach a OutputStream to the process, without getting exec()ing the process.
Is there anyway at all, i can get a process without starting it, so that I can attach an output Stream to it before it gets executed?
I am open to work arounds, anything that will automate the process of writing to the gnuplot terminal.
thanks!
nandita.The reason being that , pgnuplot checks for
its stdin being redirected the moment it's started.
If, at that time,
the "PrintWriter" is not yet connected to the
OutputStream of the
process, that check will fail, and pgnuplot will
revert to just executing
wgnuplot, without any command line redirection. I'm not convinced this analysis is correct. gnuplot doesn't need to know that there's a PrintWriter there, and it probably can't know. It just needs to know whether its standard input is coming from console or not. The Java library code that can invoke processes probably handles the redirect right away, and that's why there's the OutputStream available even before you create the PrintWriter.
exec can be tricky. I think the problem may be that you're not dealing with standard output or standard error. Read this:
When Runtime Exec Won't
If that still doesn't help, there may be options to gnuplot to tell it exactly where its input is coming from. -
Webutil error "unable to communicate with runtime process."
Hi,
Yesterday I configured webutil with Developer 10g (9.0.4).
I used webutil_106.zip and jacob_18.zip.
I succesfully deploy a form that display the selection file dialog with the function:

Today I tried to test again the form, and I got an error when the form is opening, I review the log and I find "unable to communicate with runtime process.".....
I didn't change any configuration... what I'm doing wrong..... It just work great yesterday!!!!
I tried signing again the jacob.jar and frmwebutil.jar files..... However I still have the error.......
Any help is welcome....

Is there a way to make a rescue email address without calling apple support?
I see lots of questions about rescue emails etc. I am having problems with security questions as well I don't remember ever making those security questions either. So I am wondering of there is a way of making a rescue email address without calling the apple support team in which I do not wish to go through a whole bunch of people taking hrs to actually get it done , my dad has had experience with this before and isn't happy with calling them either because he has to recall so many times and go through the process over and over again so. Is there a way with out calling them?
This only leads me to calling apple support to change things ,in which I wish to not do so, I have money on my account in which I can't use because of these security questions in which I did not put up and when I made this account on iCloud it did not give me the chance to make a rescue email. Thus leading me to where I am now.

Need to start process without SAP_BPM_SuperAdmin
We would like to give a class of users the ability to launch BPM processes without giving them SAP_BPM_SuperAdmin.
The problem with doing that, is that they could access NWA and change the process repository, if they found there way there.
Is there a way to just assign the role temporarily to the application?
Any thoughts?Hi Jim,
Try this:
Create a wsdl in your bpm dc and assign it as an interface to the 'Start' of your bpm process. Build and depoy the bpm dc. Now create a small webdynpro dc with a button say Start Process and call the web-service which you have assigned to the Start of the process. Assign this wd dc to a page/role and assign it to the reqd users.
Hope it helps.

Is JVM shared by Forms (9i) runtime process?
Hi,
I am currently testing the Forms 9i for our future project and would like to understand how good is Java/Forms_Runtime interoperability.
If a form invokes Java code (imported by the Importer), does the Forms Runtime Process share a JVM or it always creates a new instance? The documentation says that a new instance of JVM is always created. I developed a small test Java class, imported it with the Importer, invoke its method (a method runs about 30 s.) from a form's trigger and deployed the form. I run 2 simultaneous clients, each client form calls the Java method on the server. I can see 2 "ifweb90" processes but it looks like they share the same JVM. At least, a number of java processes was not increased on the server. Could it be true (with Forms 9i)?Frank,
thanks a lot for your reply.
So, it looks like the Forms Runtime Process (ifweb90.exe) instanciates the Oracle own JVM (so called virtual JVM) for every session (with imported Java). And each mini-JVM shares somehow a general JVM (java.exe where the OC4J is running). Now the question is - how can I specify some initial parameters (i.e. memory size)for this mini-JVM? My java method does a memory intensive operation and as a result, its execution fails.
