Expand "all day" pane size in week view

In Mountian Lion's Calendar, the week view shows the all day events in a narrow pane aong the top of the calendar window. However this pane is fixed and can't be resized to show more than 3 all day events. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to change the size of this area?

Hello RobertBL,
I have the same problem. In week view i only see 1 event on days with multiple day events. I use firmware version 4.6.1.152 (platform 4.2.0.91). My Curve 8900 is T-Mobile branded (Netherlands). Until now i haven't found a work around. In other calendars (pocket informant and Agendus) i don't have this problem in weekview, so it must be a BB firmware bug.

  • How can I see more than 6 all day events in the week view without scrolling?

How can I see more than 6 all day events in the week view without scrolling?  I need to see all of my all day events at once.  I use this for scheduling and comparing of # invoices.  Going back and forth to scroll is cumbersome.  I just want to be able to expand the top section so I can see everything at once.

    Any ideas, anyone?

  • Multiple All Day Events Missing in Week View

    Hello,
I just got my first BB a Curve 8900 and am very impressed.
The only thing I don't like is that if I have more than one all day event on a particular day, in Week View I can't see them.
(I've used a variety of other phones/PDAs over the years and this is not normally an issue)
I've googled this and haven't found much relating to it, other than people not seeing all day events on the home screen or something.
Is this a BB 'feature'? Is there a work around?
I'd like to be able to see my week ahead at a glance and don't seem to be able to.
    Thanks in advance.

  • In ICal is there a way to see all of the text in all day events on the month view of the calendar.  Seems to wrap text only if there is a time on the event

The paths won't agree on the two OSs so a simple XML import isn't likely to work.
See Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers and, if needed, Make a split library portable. The techniques in the first link will work when moving the library between Windows and OS X as long as the library is "portable", but iTunes takes quite some time checking the database when the library is opened under a different OS.

  • No days or dates in weekly view

Just recently my iCal in weekly view hasn't shown the days of the week and the dates either. I have gone thru everything in the prefs and the menus and cannot find anything to bring them back.

It appears that that is a change in '11

  • Start day for global agenda week view

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the first day of the week for the global agenda week view? For example, instead of having the week start on Monday, it starts on Sunday.

    Hi Christopher,
The WEEKDAY function allows specifying either Sunday or Monday as the first day of the week:
    WEEKDAY
The WEEKDAY function returns a number that is the day of the week for a given date. WEEKDAY(date, first-day)
date:  The date the function should use. date is a date/time value. The time portion is ignored by this function.
first-day: An optional value that specifies how days are numbered.
Sunday is 1 (1 or omitted):  Sunday is the first day (day 1) of the week and Saturday is day 7.
Monday is 1 (2):  Monday is the first day (day 1) of the week and Sunday is day 7. Monday is 0 (3):  Monday is the first day (day 0) of the week and Sunday is day 6.
But I think you are referring to the first day of the 'workweek', for which I do not see a means of defining a custom value.
Since you want to 'insert categories', though, you could easily define your own, using WEEKDAY(date) or WEEKDAY(date,1), plus an IF statement to return the category label appropriate to the day. Here's one for a Sunday to Thursday work week. Dates are in column A, the formula is in whichever column you want as the Category column. For the example, I've placed it in column B.
    B2, and filled down: =IF(WEEKDAY(A)<6,"Work","Off")
The top table shows the weekday numbers returned for each day of the week for each of the three permitted values for the optional second argument. The bottom table shows the results from the formula above, used to define a category label for each date:
A10 was left blank intentionally, to determine if the lack of data resulted in an error. The Warning message, flagged by the blue 'warning' triangle, is "The formula uses a number in place of a date." The 'date' assigned to this numerical value of zero was a Friday, but I'm not certain when. Probably best to avoid extra rows with no date shown.

  • How do I expand the view of all day events in iCal?

I am unable to find an answer to this question any where.  Is it possible to expand the area in iCal where all day events appear in the day and week views?

Did you ever get an answer on this?  I can see everything in the DAY view but need to see the all day events in the week view.  I have events that start on say the 15th and run to the 21st.  I've started putting the end date in the location field but it was so much nicer when the all day even portion expanded to allow you to see all of them without having to scroll.  Having to use the DAY view makes it really hard to schedule.  Any chance this will change in the new version?

  • Expanding the all-day region in iCal

Is there any way to expand the viewing region of the all-day events in the week view of iCal?  It is apparently limited to 6 items and expands or shrinks to fit the largest number of daily items for the week.  It would be useful to allow a user-defined maximum or a fixed size. Usually grabbing the border line between the all day events and the hourly events allows for adjusting but that does not seem to work.

And another year on and this is now an issue for me also, still just the 6 can be seen with no way to expand the field.
Best I can do so far on the iPad is to click on the search field and that at least opens them all in list view and from there they can be individually browsed.

  • How to view iCal all day events in notifications tab?

First of all I really don't like the new iCal app in ios7 but for now I am dealing with it and am contemplating getting a new app to use for my calendar. However I am trying to make this one work first. One of the problems I have is if I have iCal events that are scheduled as "all day" events, and when I swipe down to view my notifications tab it says I have no events even when I have an event for that day.  However it shows up if I have a time for that event, ex: 8:00 am to 10:00am.
Is this a bug or is there a way to get them to show up? I have everything turned on in settings for the notifications tab settings.
My other issue with iCal is I have two calendars (one for work and one for home) and when I view my month, I want to be able to see the color of the event i have planned on certain days, instead it just shows me a grey dot for the days i have something planned. My ipad with ios7 shows me the view I want my iphone doesn't, just grey dots.  This forces me to actually click on the day and then try to scroll through the day timeline to find my event.....any help?

  • HT202337 list all-day events in day view on Mac icalendar with Yosemite upgrade

Before I upgraded to Yosemite, I loved that the day view of the iCalendar on the Mac showed all the calendar events (including all-day events) in a list view. Now that I have upgraded, the day view shows in the same format as week view with timed events primarily displayed and all-day events at the top in a small section with a scroll bar.  I use all-day events a lot, and would much prefer the list of events (including all-day events) when looking at the day view!  (It is this way on the iPhone, but no longer on the Mac icalendar.)  How can I get back to this listed events in the day view?? Or if not, is there a way to move down the bar underneath the all-day events section (to show more of the all-day events at a time)? PLEASE? Help??  Thank you in advance!!

  • Showing more All-Day Events in Month View?

Even with the iCal window maximized, when more than 4 All-Day events take place on the same day, Month View shows "..." instead of the usual All-Day colour bar, even if there's still half the space left in 'box' for that day....
To be clear: it shows the first 4 colour bars for the corresponding all-day events, then "..." at the top to show there are more, you have to switch to Week or Day view to see them
I looked at the plist and can't figure what could be changed.... any tips? It would really be convenient to see the maximum possible number of All-Day events even in Month view.
    Merci!
    François
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Unfortunately, it appears that this is intentional. The iCal Help file states:
"If you're in Month view and you see three dots (an ellipsis) at the top of the day, there is not enough room to show all the events on that day. To see all the events in Day view, double-click the ellipsis."
I suspect that half of the box is saved for all-day events and half for timed events. On my iMac G3, I get three dots and 3 events, on my G5 with a much larger screen I get three dots and 4 events. If anyone figures out how to alot more space to all-day events, it would be a big help.

  • How to highlight days in Calendar Week view

I miss the old system of highlighting the current day's column (in "Week View"). It was eye-catching. The red dot doesn't do it for me.
Is there any way to get that feature back?
P.S. - I wish Jon Ive would go back to designing hardware. There is such a thing as "over minimization".

  • Expand All Mail Conversations by Default

There are quite a few threads out there on this topic but none with any suitable response.  Has anyone figured out a terminal command that might force this, sort of like we do for forcing font size?  Its frustrating to have to keep going to view and selecting "Expand All Conversations" manually evertime you switch views.
    Looking forward to a response.

That checkbox is checked, I have to go to View/Expand All Conversations about 20-30 times a day to expand all messages because it continues to collapse whenever I "switch views" meaning, going from one folder, to a keyword search, to a smart folder, etc.  It would be great to have some command line "defaults...xxxxx" that sets the "Expand All Conversations" default to on rather than persistent off - even if selected from the menu.
It would appear that I'm not the only one frustrated by this, many others seem to have the same thoughts so I'm hoping that someone in this community have figured out that simply setting a command line in Terminal sets the default to on with a bit flip.

  • New ical no longer lets you see all-day events without scrolling, can this be changed?

I have lots of all-day events on my ical, just upgraded to from mobileme to ical and the new calendar does not expand all-day events to allow you to see them all without scrolling.  I really need to see all of them without scrolling through them.  This applies to both the weekly & daily views.  Is there a way to change this?  The previous version allowed you to view them all, I don't call this progress.

I understand now - that behavior is annoying under the circumstances you describe, as you clearly want to indicate only a 'delay' in the start date and not necessarily and extension of the end date.
This is one of those human interface things where they may have considered the behavior, and decided that instantly and automatically maintaining the event duration was the best choice, though a savvy programmer could have likely avoided the issue by testing for a duration of > 1, and changing only those cases where the duration was = 1. Durations of < 1 would not exist, by definition, so it would have been an extremely simple conditional test.
I don't think that you are actually being too picky: the case you describe is not necessarily the controlling event type, but is highly likely to be encountered [it seems] and therefore should have been accounted for in the manner I described just above, or by some other similar mechanism.
It's funny how these issues arise: the recently released Entourage single day event definition is different than the one used in iCal, as that team chose to define an all day event as:
    2006-03-15 00:00:00 +0000 for start, and
    2006-03-16 00:00:00 +0000 to end
While both the iCal event description and the Entourage description might represent the same data points on either a 12 or 24 hour clock, they are clearly not identical, and this 'disconnect' in definitions might cause future problems as both applications push different representations to the truth while describing the same event.

  • ICal "all day events" separator bar

Is it possible to adjust the "all day events" separator bar in iCal in the Daily or Weekly view.  When you have more than 6 all day events on one day a scroll bar appears, and it's not possible to view all of the all day events at once.  I know that this sounds like nit-picking, but I've developed a work-flow where I would like to look at all of the informaiton at once without extra clicks or scrolls, or to glance at the information without having to bring the application to the surface, or make it the active application.
Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the separator bar to allow the user to see more then 6 all day events in the weekly or daily iCal views
Another ideal solution would be additions to the View or the Preference options that would allow the user to view all of the "all day events" and have the separator bar automatically adjust.
    thanks,

I agree with you...  this used to be a flexible field and would handle infinate "all day" events.    To answer your question...  no, you cannot adjust this field.  I too use this for business and really need to view all the "all day" events.  I've been forced to use the daily view and put a date notation in the "location" field to know when the event ends.  It's the only way to see everything.
I found a nice little calendar program SaiSuke but Apple doesn't play well with others.  You can enter into the iCal or iCloud calendar program and it will seemlessly appear through iCloud into the SaiSuke calendar.  But Apple will not release the information allowing SaiSuke to talk back to iCloud.
Basically what I'm saying is it's a one way conversation between SaiSuke & iCloud, it can bring data in but not return data back.  So if you enter a new event in SaiSuke it will not be anywhere other than the iPhone or iPad you entered it on, it cannot make it back to iCloud without plugging your phone in and doing a manual Sync.  Of course this process will produce duplicate events.
So unless someone out there has more knowledge ...  and you want to have your events be the same on multiple platforms (phone, pad & desktop) we are stuck with using their iCal product.  Apple calls this progress.
