Expand Files Panel confusion

G'day. I just (reluctantly) downloaded a new version of
Dreamweaver CS3, after being advised by Adobe that my old, crashing
version (MX 2004) would no longer work with Mac OSX 10.5 (leopard).
What I want to do is use the Expand Files Panel function so
that I can view my remote and local files side-by-side, for simple
FTP access (as I used to do with MX 2004). I cannot figure out a
way to do this.
This is really the only use I have for Dreamweaver - I use it
to shuttle files back and forth using FTP and update them from time
to time. I really hope that it will be possible to have this
side-by-side view in the new version.
Does anyone know how to make this view appear?
Thanks.

Nope. That didn't work.
Maybe I'm real dumb. I find the files panel (with tabs
showing Files, Assets, Snippets)
I click the files tab, and click F8. The files are revealed
in window below. There are no icons (just a blue link to 'manage
files')
On the 'Files' menubar (far right) is a small black icon. I
click on that and see (among other things) 'Expand Files Panel'. I
click on that and it opens a new window with all my files and a
bunch of icons on the menu bar. There is a drop down menu which
lets me switch between my hard disk, the website and something
called 'Computer'. But no side-by-side view.
On the far right of the men bar is an icon which (when I run
the mouse over it) says "collapse to show only local or remote
file". It takes me straight back to where I was.
Whatever I do, I cannot seem to get a side-by-side view, with
my website on the left and local files on the right.
What am I doing wrong?

  • How to make Files Panel stay visible (on Mac)

this has always driven me crazy, and now i'm at the top of the iceberg.
whenever i'm working in dreamweaver (on Mac with CS5 currently), and i need to pop over to another application or the Finder, i HATE that i have to either cmd+tab or click the icon in the dock to get back to DW. i so wish there was a way to make the expanded files panel STAY visible no matter what app is in the foreground/focus.
does anybody have any solutions? are there any extensions or widgets or hacks to make this happen? i've gone thru each menu option & preference option and can't find anything that would do this.
    thanks!

    @SnakEyez02
    thank you for your suggestion.
i guess what i want just isn't possible yet. in the rest of the CS5 suite i use (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) the Window Menu -> Application Frame option which keeps it all open/visible all the time. i don't know why Adobe hasn't yet put that option into DW.
but at 'least' i was hoping there was a hack or extension that'll keep at leat the files panel open/visible all the time.

  • Folders in Files panel always expanded

I have another thread that hasn't been answered (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/934856), so I'm trying alternate wording.
In the Files Panel there are several folders that are always expanded when I initially open Dreamweaver.
I can collapse the folders, but as soon as I expand another folder, the original folders auto-expand themselves. It's very annoying.
I noticed that Illustrator's Layers Panel exhibits similar behavior. They must have been coded in a similar way.
Anyone know how to stop this behavior?

I'm not the OP but I did figure out a fix for me. Not sure if it will fix the problem for others but here is what I did.
First let me add here that I did find that when I upgraded to the new Creative Cloud version of DW and it imported my 12.0 site settings, the problem followed those settings into the 13.0 version.
Im on a Mac so these instructions would need to be taylored to the PC in regards to the location of the file referenced. And I am not sure if it's even the same file on the PC. So I can only speak for my experience on the Mac.
I've fixed my 12.0 version and my 13.0 version this way.
It was a corrupted "Site Prefs" file. I tried to fix it, but the entries where so mixed up that there was no way that was going to work. So I deleted the "Site Prefs" file and let DW recreate it.
In order to recreate the Site Prefs file, it meant loosing all of my site settings.
    To make things less painful...
Open DW and go to Manage Sites. Select all sites and do an export of all .ste files, with passwords and user names, into a temperary folder and close DW.
Now find file folder called "12.0" or 13.0" in the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/12.0 (13.0 for the cloud version)/Sites/ and rename it to "12.0_old" or whatever. (Note: you may need to Option-click the Go Menu in the Finder in order to get the Library choice to appear).
Reopen DW and it will recreate a new blank "Site Prefs" file. Go to "Manage Sites..." and click on "Import Site". Select all of the .ste files and import them.
DW will update the site's cache the first time you open each site and it might also ask you to give permission to access the password stored in you keychain. Choose "Always Allow" for each one.
That's it. Now my corrupted folder doesn't pop open every time I click on another folder.
    Mac OS 10.7.5
    DW CS6 (12.0 build 5861) &/or DW CC (13.0 build 6391)
As I said, this worked great for me. But use these steps at your own discretion.

  • File Panel Expanded View - DW8

Using DW 8 in Windows XP, open File Panel expanded view. (F8)
When I open a page from my site (local file) the page opens
int he editing view but the File Panel view remains in front of the
page I want to work on. The only way to get rid of it is to
collapse it (F8), which is a pain in the butt.
Using the Mac version the page you selected to edit appears
automatically in front of the File Panel.
    Thanks

That would be a pain, and it's definitely unexpected
    behavior. I recommend
you contact Adobe directly and use one of your one-on-one
    support incidents.

  • Missing buttons on file panel

    Hi There,
I have just switched from MX to 8 and am having trouble
puting files to the server. When I go to Window, File, the file
panel comes up with out the buttons to up load the files. When I
click on the box to expand file, the butons show up but are not
working. I've been through the preference box, and can't find
anything to adjust the preferences. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the information. I have been through the trouble
shooting papers...several times. There is a lot of information with
a lot of things I don't understand. Is there a troubleshooting
tree? That way I don't have to sift through information that does
not apply. (It is overwhelming and confusing)
I did not mention that 1.) I switched from a PC to a Mac the
same time I upgraded to DW8. And 2.) I downloaded the trial version
of DW8, so I could use it until I got the DW8 cd. I am pretty sure
I did not have this problem with the trial version.

  • Folders in Files Panel won't stay collapsed

There are 2 folders in my Files Panel which won't stay collapsed.  When I open Dreamweaver, they are expanded.  If I click the arrow next to them a few times they will eventually collapse, but then as soon as I open any other file or folder they re-expand themselves.  This first started back when I was using Dreamweaver CS5 with one folder which refused to collapse. A year later, I had updated to Dreamweaver CS6, and now had 2 folders which wouldn't stay collapsed. This morning I updated to Dreamweaver CC, and the same 2 folders still won't stay collapsed!
I searched the forum and found people with the same issue going back to 2007, but have yet to find any solution.  A few people recommended editing the Windows Registry - but I'm using the Mac version.  Several people said that they had some luck completely deleting the site settings and re-creating it - but that seems a bit extreme, plus several people said that it just started happening again later with another folder!
Does anyone have a permanent solution??
Here are a few of the other posts regarding this issue:

Also - just as an FYI.  If I rename the folder, it stops happening.  I can close and restart Dreamweaver and it stays collapsed. But, as soon as I rename the folder back - even if I do so after closing and reopening the program - it starts doing it again!!
Not sure if this is related either - but I saw in someone else's post that setting Related Files to Automatically, instead of Manual, fixed the problem.  I did try this, to no avail.  I even tried many times to turn off Related Files (by unchecking the Enable Related Files box in Preferences) but it keeps re-enabling itself!

As Jon Suggested , try rebuilding the site Cache

  • How Do I Configure My Workspace in DWCC To Be Like DWCS6?  File Panel Issue Here.

I open a lot of files at one time to work on similar coding but when expanding the Files Panel, it moves left and gets into the way of the scroll bars.  I have to close Files to get access to the scroll bars.  I want the Files/Assets panels to remain open as a dropdown in the right handed Panel set like in CS6.  The pop-out Files panel gets into the way.  I just want it to remain open in the panels column.
Anyone know how to do that?  I find I keep going back to CS6 because I can work faster without dealing with the pop-outs.
    Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but...
To move window/panels around in DW, you can click their name tab and drag them to new locations.
When you drag them to the edges of the application window, the edge will highlight. When you release, the window will lock to that edge. You can also stack windows on other windows this way, by dragging to the edges of one window until it highlights, and releasing.
If you drag them from an edge to the middle of the application frame and drop them, they become floating windows.

  • How Do I Set Dreamweaver F8 Key To Open "Full" Files Panel

    Hi,
When I press the F8 key Dreamweaver displays the Files Panel, but it is the small one that expands from the panel column.  What I want is the full one.
It's really annoying to have to press F8 to expand the Files Panel and then have to mouse to the right corner and click on "Expand to show local and remote sites."
Maybe there is another shortcut key i should be entering?
    Thanks

CwboyInAZ, I created a workspace but I don't know how to save the "full" panel to open when I hit F8 ( or any other shortcut key ).  Just to clarify, the issue is not in opening the files panel within the side column but rather in opening the "Full" view ( ie...the file browser that is shown when you click on the "Expand to show local and remote sites" button on the top right of the "files panel")

  • File panel gremlins in DW9/CS3

I consistently have weird behaviors when browsing the file panel in DW. I'll click the "+" to expand a folder, and some other folder will expand. Often I will have to expand/contract several folders before I get the proper folder to stay open.
FWIW, I've had this same issue in DW for CS2 - it has persisted as well across installs on several computers.
Everything else works fine. Just a chronic annoyance. Anyone else see this behavior/have solution?

Actually I had failed to notice that you had it on several computers before hitting the send button.  I have not been able to duplicate you problem and I have never had it myself, so I was thinking it might be an issue outside of dw,

  • Reset Files Panel

    I don't know if I have a different version of Dreamweaver 8,
but my "Files" panel (with assests and snippets) panel does not
have all of the icons used to connect to the server and upload. It
only has a drop down window that lists local files and a manage
sites link. When I go to my site files, there is no way to upload
them. When I go to expanded window view, I can see all of the icons
now but they are greyed out and I cannot use them. I think I have
found a major glitch in Dreamweaver. I'm trying to upload my image
folder and had to upload them one slice at a time and it took 45
minutes. Maybe this is the way you have to do it. Any help would be
    greatly appreciated.

Did you try right clicking on the image and selecting "reset
    size?"

  • File Panel Directory Problem

I'm running Dreamweaver 8 on Mac OS X accessing a connected
samba file share. In the file panel, I noticed something strange.
Some directories do not show as folders, but as an unknown file
type. Refreshing the list produces the same. I began looking at the
pattern of strange directories. Every one that has a problem
contains a subdirectory named the same as the parent. By renaming
the subdirectory to something different, and then refreshing the
file panel, they appeared normally. Since I cannot rename all of
the subdirectories, I need a better solution. Any suggestions would
    be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Have you seen if this same problem occurs on another site?
    Just to be sure
