Expand Multiple Version Sets

I just upgraded to PSE9 from PSE6. I am doing a little housecleaning and need to move many many many files. Is there a way to select a whole bunch of pictures and expand all the version sets in there? For instance, if a find by a date range, then find all version sets, now I would like to 'select all' and be able to expand the version sets. Not Possible??? Doesn't seem to be. Any ideas how I can use a workaround?

How do you know?
Your expectations are simply unrealistic.
That's not the answer. I know there are a number unrealistic expectations with the organizer. Let's see if it's the case here.
What's the problem ?
It's very different from the original subject, not about expanding multiple version sets.
It's simply about trusting, or the limits in trusting in the 'file/move' function of the organizer, which is a subject you'll have seen discussed many times, and for which I have never seen a clear answer. On the other hand you have seen hundreds of times the advice to use the organizer move feature instead of doing this outside of the organizer. Where is the truth? It's not because I have personally never met a problem with the move feature that it can work in all circumstances, in all versions and OS.
The reported behaviour is that the algorithm plays nicely and ends without warning nor freezing after skipping many files. This is very unusual, but it seems to be repetitive in a given environment (we don't know the details of...) This hints rather at a 'bug' in the algorithm rather than a compatibility problem with the OS or an available RAM or disk space, but we can't know without searching further.
You'll note that the move feature is a basic and fundamental argument in favor of a database management system : it's not anecdotic, so it is just natural to expect it does work properly.
If there are limits in the conditions the move feature can work properly it's realistic to expect to know them. And if those limits are known to the developers, something should be done to warn the user and avoid program crashes or false results.

• I have installed elements 13 from a disc and the organizer recognizes version sets, but won't let me expand them. Is there a patch?

I have installed elements 1`3 from a disc and cannot expand a version set. Help?

This is PSE 13? If so, it's not a bug, it's a feature. The new adaptive grid view in the organizer, where you see the thumbnails edge-to-edge, doesn't do stacks or version sets. Press. Ctrl+D/Command+D to get back to the old detail view instead.

• How to move all images in a version set

I have found need to re-arrange some of the pictures in my Organizer (PSE 3.01, Windows). I have found that if I move an image that is the top of a version set, only that top image is moved. All the older versions remain in the old folder.
Of course one can get around this by opening the version set and moving all the pictures from there, but I was moving a bunch of images, some of them version sets. This meant that I had to treat all the version sets a bit different. Would have been nice if everything went as a package to the new destination folder.
Any suggestions?

Sorry Larry, but I also found that in PSE 3.0.1 the only thing that worked for me was to expand each version set (one at a time), select all of the photos in that version set and do the Move.
Before starting my Moves, I had done a test (with an insignficant photo version set) of moving with Windows Explorer and then doing Reconnect. My moves were to a different physical hard drive and Reconnect was not automatically finding the new location. So I decided that expanding each of the version sets was the lesser evil for moving and updating the Catalog.
>Would have been nice if everything went as a package to the new destination folder.
Definitely agree.
Does anyone have feedback on what happens in Elements 4 for doing a
b Move
to a different physical hard drive when
b Version Sets
are involved?

• Hidden Version Sets

When I have only "landscape" tagged photos (for example) shown in the organizer and try to expand a version set, PSE5 says I need to "go back to all photos". This is fine except that I have version sets that are tagged "hidden". Try to expand these; go back to all photos; of course they're not there. Any work around?
Thanks

I think the only workaround is to make the version set un-hidden. If you have a lot of these, you could create a tag Other > Formerly Hidden, assign that tag to all the hidden photos, remove the Hidden tag. When you're done, select all photos with the Other > Formerly Hidden tag and make them hidden again. Pretty klutzy.
This wart was fixed in PSE 6.

• Elements 13 expand version sets

Just installed PS Elements 13 and cannot expand version sets. I can go into Editor and open the original of the version set, but when I save that photo, it replaces the existing one in the organizer. Geez.

Well, I discovered the problem. Under "View", you must check "Details" to get the version set expansion arrow.

• Expand/Collapse All Version Sets

PSE 10, Is there a simple way to open all the Version Sets with one set of keystrokes, and having them stay open. I have a lot of version sets built up over time, and I would prefer not having to open each one individually. When I tried doing that on a small batch, as soon as I changed to a different batch of pics, all of the Sets I had opened, promptly closed. The View > Expand/Collapse All Stacks does not work on the Version Sets.

Hi Surya
Create a new HTML region at the top of your page, using No Template and use this as the Source:
<script type="text/javascript">
function showHideAll(displaystyle)
var hideIMG = "/i/htmldb/builder/rollup_plus_dgray.gif";
var showIMG = "/i/htmldb/builder/rollup_minus_dgray.gif";
var k;
var r = document.getElementsByTagName("DIV");
if (r)
for (k = 0; k < r.length; k++)
if (r[k].className == 't12Hide')
r[k].style.display = displaystyle;
var i = document.getElementsByTagName("IMG");
if ( i )
for (k = 0; k < i.length; k++)
if (i[k].id.substr(0, 5) == 'shIMG')
i[k].src = (displaystyle == 'block') ? showIMG : hideIMG;
</script>
<a href="javascript:showHideAll('block');">Show All</a>
<a href="javascript:showHideAll('none');">Hide All</a>The image names and className (t12Hide) are based on my test page - change these as appropriate for your own page (you may need to do a View Source on the page to check these values).

• PSE13 Organizer: stacks and version sets do not expand

Converted three catalogs from PSE12 show the stacks/versions sets overlay symbols in organizer but there seems to be no way to expand the stack/version set. All the menu choices for doing this are disabled.
Anybody else seeing this? Any workaround? Any ETA besides PSE 14 or higher for a fix?

I had the same issue. It took me a lot of time playing with the interface before I finally figured out the problem. Even though, when you double click a photo (single view) from within the default grid view, you "do" get the option to expand a stack or version set (not greyed out). However, it does not work. My frustration with that is that since it was not greyed out you would naturally expect it to be functional and it is not. In grid view the option is greyed out however that caused confusion as well since this option works in Elements 12 default view. So, one assumes it is a defect. Right? So the solution is to switch the grid view to detail view (view -> detail). Once you do that then the expand function works as expected. This should have been explained as I believe it is a change in functionality (user work flow) from earlier versions. I did try to find wording about this in the help file but no luck.

• [Forum FAQ] Schedule multiple versions of System Image Backup in Windows 8.1

As we known that there is no UI for user to configure Image backup in Windows 8.1, this is a guide for your to schedule multiple versions of System Image Backup.
Step 1: Create a task to schedule an image backup with following command:
SCHTASKS /Create /SC WEEKLY /D MON /TN WeeklyFullBackup /RL HIGHEST /ST 13:00 /TR “wbAdmin Start Backup -backupTarget:F: -include:C: -allCritical -quiet”
Step 2: Schedule a robocopy to backup the saved image with BAT file:
Please create a new folder (in this example, the new folder is e:\test2) to save your multiple copies of image backup:
Write following batch file to copy backup and rename with backup date:
*****************BAT********************
@echo off
robocopy e:\test1\ e:\test2\ test.wim
ren e:\test2\test.wim test_%date:~10,4%%date:~7,2%%date:~4,2%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2%.wim
NOTE: e:\test2 is my location to save multiple copies of image backup; e:\test1 is the location I create the system image backup.
This BAT can also help to rename the copy of image backup with date and time like below:
3. Set up a basic task in Task schedule:
Note: please make sure the time you configured follows the time you set for image backup in Step 1.
Action -> Create basic task (Name you task) -> Trigger (Set how often this task should be run) -> Action (Start a program) -> Under Program/script, point to your bat file you create in Step 2.b -> Finish
At the end, you can know more about SCHTASKS and Robocopy via following links:

• Multiple version of Java on one machine

Is it possible to have multiple versions of Java co-exist on the same XP Pro machine?
Here is our scenario: we have apps that use Java 1.5, but we have one critical app that doesn't support that version yet. It has to use the 1.4 version. Is there a way to allow both versions to exist and be usable for their respective apps? If so, how?
Thank you.

I can't, however it's never a good idea to have
multiple versions of Java on one machine. Try and
standardise if possible. If OP used JAVA_HOME as you
often suggest, then he would be knackered wouldn't
he? JAVA_HOME can only point to one JDK. Your
advice is conflicting kaj.Nope. JAVA_HOME should always be defined in the start script/file for a java application, so it's not set per system. It's very common that companies have applications that requires different JDK/JRE versions, and it's usually very expensive to upgrade all applications (if it's possible at all). You can of course also alter the PATH variable if you want to in the script.

• Multiple versions of an application on one Forms Server

Is it possible to have multiple versions of an application available via one Forms Server?
We have a DEV, TEST and PROD version of an application and we would like to have the versions seperate on one Forms Server.
Would this be possible using any other Oracle tools (Portal)?
Thanks for your help.

Yes, all you have to do is create a batch file which sets the env variables you want and also starts up the forms listener on a different port. This way you can have a forms listener on e.g.
Port 9000 With Forms60_Path - c:\temp
Port 9001 With Forms60_Path - c:\Production
Port 9002 With Forms60_Path - c:\test
That way you will pick up different files as well.

• Aperture - multiple versions

Hi all,
As you might know, Aperture easily gives one the possibility to create multiple versions of a photo, e.g. a B&W version, a color cropped version,... In Aperture these photos are grouped in a stack - but can be considered as independent photos.
When switching to the Pages (or Keynote) one has the possibility of easily importing images into a document through the media browser - with some reservations to the resolution though - see my other post:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=936858&tstart=0.
However: the media browser only shows one version of the stack (the one that is the top one in the Aperture stack) - rather inconvenient at times.
Until now I only found 2 solutions that work through the media browser: re-order the photos inside the Aperture stack and quit-restart Pages to refresh the media browser; or unstack the images in Aperture such that the media browser (once refreshed) sees them as independent images.
Another way would be to export the versions one wishes to use as separate images - which at the same time bypasses the resolution issue with the media browser.
But again: this renders the media browser rather useless...
Any hints?
Many thanks in advance,
Christel

I am having the same problems, but with only one set of photos (same date only). And, although I love cheerleaders as much as the next guy, I don't need 250 versions!!!
Setup:
1. These photos are in a project containing 3800 photos.
2. The project has .CRW (D60) and .CR2 (1DMkII) files.
3. The problem files are .CR2 files (only for this date).
4. All other files from different dates don't create the same problem (.CRW or .CR2).
5. Aperture Libraray is on internal 300GB SATA drive (not on system drive).
What I tried:
1. I removed 3rd Party Ram (Apple blames all my problems on this, but everytime I remove it the problems persist. Another story).
2. Repaired Permissions.
3. Rebooted.
4. I created a new user. Still have the same problems.
5. Yes, turning off 'Create New Version.....' stops this, but I like having new versions for compare.
Anyone with similar setups and issues?? Any fixes?? Is Apple still working out a way for us 6600 card owners to upgrade??

• Support Photoshop Elements 5 Stacks and Version Sets

I would like to see stacks in Lightroom that work the same way as those in the Photoshop Elements 5 Organizer. PSE5 stacks are far more capable than Lightroom ones. (Can stack across multiple folders, can include version sets in stacks, etc.)
Additionally, I would love to see support for PSE5 Version Sets. These are similar to the "Stack with original" option, but work more smoothly (latest version is always automatically on top, for example).
Since Adobe has already implemented these in PSE5, you would think it would be pretty simple to also include them in Lightroom.

Why is that when I am composing a new message do I end up with multiple versions of my message I am composing up in my Google Trash mailbox? How can I stop this from happening?

It was very hard to see what the box says because the message displays for less than one second. However, I was able to record it with my iphone and pause it until I got a shot of the message. The box says the following:
"Do you want the application “java” to accept incoming network connections?
Clicking deny may limit the application’s behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences."
I did make some changes. I will see if it works.

• Problems using version set in Elements 9

Hi!
I have problems using the version set. When saving files in the Element 9 editor I can not mark the "version set" option, its not highlighted and not possible to mark or use. Is there a basic setting that I´m missing or??? I have the MAC version of Elements.
Also I have noticed that when I have edited a file in the Elements 9 editor and I come back to the Organizer the editor have changed the time of the photo? This means that its rather difficult to find the photo in the Organiser. It often change the time 1 or 2 hours.
As I cant use the version set I can not keep my tags on the edited pictures. Is there a setting for keeping the tags and catalogue belongings to a edited file?
As of today this software makes no sense to me and I can basically not keep working with it as it does not support basic functionality that I´m dependent on.
Best Re
A

I’m not seeing this in my own version sets in PSE9; when I expand the set every image has the same date and time under each thumbnail.
I’m wondering if you have used the “save for web” command at some point, which
wipes all EXIF metadata, including the date & time of the original - in order to optimize the image for display on the internet. So if you have imported such an image Elements has to make an estimate. Apart from this known scenario I can’t really explain what’s going on.
