Expand/Pinch gesture in Finder

Hi,
since I updated to Mountain Lion, the expand/pinch gesture in Finder (to resize the icons) doesn't work anymore. The only way are the preferences menue or the slider in the status bar. I searched the web, but it seams that nobody has this problem. Is there anybode else? Do you have a hind for me, how I can restore the behavior from Lion?
Regards

I believe that this is normal, although in my eyes it's not a problem. The old behavior in Lion irritated the heck out of me, as I would frequently trigger a pinch gesture accidentally. I'm a bit anal about my desktop, and resizing the icons would screw up the entire arrangement, so I'd have to go back into the desktop's view options and set the icons back to 64x64 again.
So I definitely noticed that the pinch behavior in the Finder went away, but I was glad about that rather than upset. If there's a way to get the old behavior back, I'm unaware of it, but I have doubts that there is.

  • OS Lion does not support pinch/zoom gesture in Finder

I've seen multiple posts on this same issue.  I just want to add my vote to Apple to restore the pinch-zoom gesture in Finder to OS Lion.  I'd love see either a solution, or software update that will rectify this issue.  I don't even know why there would be any sense in removing this feature.
    Vic

Thank you for your response Rodney.  The issue isn't with the browser though.  The pinch-zoom works perfectly in Safari.  The issue is with Finder.  When I'm sorting/organizing files in Finder, I the pinch-zoom functionality doesn't work, so I'm limited to the 4 viewing styles buttons that are available.  I can't scale my views which is really inconvenient.  Finder used to have this functionality in OS Snow Leopard, so I really hope this function is restored in OS Lion.
Any feedback or ETA if this is going to be addressed by Apple?  I see many other cries to have this feature restored in OS Lion.
    Sincerely,
    Vic

  • Disable pinch gesture in Safari

Is there a way to disable the pinch gesture to "zoom out" and see the tabs in safari?
I find that it gets activated very easily when using the trackpad and keeps showing me the tabs. I prefer to use CMD+SHIFT+\ for that.

Me too... this is actually the reason I can't use Safari as my default browser, despite wanting to. The inadvertent gesture keeps showing all tabs, which is so interruptive and annoying as to drive me away.
I need pinch-zoom in too many other apps to disable it globally. Interestingly, I don't find myself constantly triggering it in those other apps, or if I do, the consequences are so trivial that I don't notice it and it doesn't interrupt by train of though or require a complete cognition reset in the way switching to tabs does.
Safari's interpretation of "zoom out" to include switching from re-scaling content in the current window to going up to tab view is a non-standard one that I'm afraid is just too clever by half. It's a cool idea, but since it's different from all other apps treatment, should be an app-specific preference that can be disabled.
I hope Apple makes this an app option override soon. I grew tired of Firefox's constant craving for additional memory, and would like to get away from the sense that Chrome tracks me in ways that the best blockers can't really seem to stop. But I'm accepting both of those over this aggravating window behavior.

  • Enable pinch zoom in finder. We need this feature to resize icons, thumbnails etc.

Enable pinch zoom in finder. We need this feature to resize icons, thumbnails etc.
    We just need it.

Better Touch Tool does the snapping as well and with gestures too! so you can probably get rid of that other one.
I agree, it's something that seems to not make sense. on the other hand I didn't realize you could do it until the second year of using my mac. of course after finding out about it I would use it to shrink or enlarge the icons on my desktop when I wasn't using them so it wasn't cluttered.
I think one of the fun things about having the mac are the little easter egg abilities that aren't necessarily written out for you to know but you have the expereince of figuring them out on your own through using it or finding it out as a secret tip to quicken your workflow. Getting rid of this is similar to having a dream that you won a billion dollars and then waking up knowing you don't.

  • Multi-touch pinch gesture

    hi,
how to handle multi-touch gestures like pinches ? because its a problem if you hit first with the first finger or hit first with the other finger or you hit the display with both fingers at the same time.

I've provided an image for reference to making the corrections:
I had this problem with my browser as well. I'm using OS X 10.6.8 but, Try this: type the following into the address bar: about:config
Then use the filter (top left side) and type the word, Gesture.
Make the following changes to the following 2 fields:
    For Zooming IN:
browser.gesture.pinch.in ~ enter the field and type, '''cmd_fullZoomReduce browser'''.
    And for zooming OUT:
gesture.pinch.out ~ enter the field and type, '''cmd_fullZoomEnlarge'''
These changes should immediately restore the pinch gestures you are used to. Try it as soon as you make the changes and let us know. I've included a screenshot.
Note the changes in the 2 lines and make them. This worked for me. Good luck.

  • Zoom-in, zoom-out pinch gesture stopped working a few days ago for no apparent reason.

Zoom-in, zoom-out pinch gesture stopped working a few days ago for no apparent reason. I went to Preferences>Gestures, turned off the selection, turned it on again, rebooted, etc. HELP. Any suggestions?

Try Settings>General>Siri>Off. Restart the phone then go back and turn Siri on again. It can take a few minutes for Siri to totally activate again.

  • Upgraded to Lion, Mac, but with firefox browser, unable to zoom out/in with pinch gesture

installed Lion 10.7 for Mac. I have a MacBook Pro, 2.53 GHz intel core 2 duo, the pinch gesture for zoom in/out doesn't work on the firefox 5.01. For the Safari, the gesture DOES work.

.... is there a way to downgrade back to lion 10.7.3 since that' worked fine.
The only way would be to revert to 10.7.3 by using Time Machine or by cloning from a previous 10.7.3 clone.
Hence, the importance of always having a backup, even more important with a slow Internet connection.

  • Tab View in Safari 6 on Mountain Lion is not activating with the Pinch Gesture.

The pinch gesture that activates Tab View in Safari 6 is not working. I have the latest MacBook Pro 17" with an updated Mountain Lion OS.
Everything else in Safari works fine, even the keyboard shortcut for Tab View works. Whether I pinch on my laptop trackpad or the standalone trackpad the pinch gesture doesn't activate the new Tab View feature.
    Anyone else have this issue?

Sorry but what is the keyboard shortcut to activate tab view? KineticBranding, you said, "Everything else in Safari works fine, even the keyboard shortcut for Tab View works. " I've been looking everywhere for a keyboard alternative to the pinch out gesture that activates tab view. I am aware of cmd+shft+arrow to got left or right a tab, but is there a shortcut to activate tab view?
    Thank you.

  • 3gs - Buggy Pinch Gesture (when connected to itunes)

    Hello,
I think I have found a bug on iPhone OS 3.1.2.
When iPhone is connected to iTunes, the pinch gesture doesn't work correctly (only horizontal pinch works, vertical pinch causes wierd zoom/scrolling behaviour
When iPhone is working on battery or is simply charging from the wall plug there's no problems.
I tried restoring the device but that didn't solve the problem
Anyone else with iphone os 3.1.2 can try this and tell me if it happens?
    thanks

My phone zooms normally whether pinching vertically or horizontally (with the phone in vertical or horizontal position) when connected to iTunes. I have to say I never tried this before - the only functions I can see for using the phone connected to iTunes is for syncing/backing up, updating or restoring.
If this is still happening after restoring using a backup, there are corrupted settings in your phone, try the following steps as needed:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Restore in iTunes as a new iPhone

  • What happened to the multi-touch gestures in Finder?

I've updated to Lion last week.  Overall, I think what Apple did was great to the overall experience.  However, my only gripes are in Finder.  What happened to the multi-touch gestures?  The only thing that I can do is flip through files in cover view using two finger swipes.
What happened to the pinch to zoom in and out?  I've seen other posts about this so I'll stop here.  Apple please bring this function back.  I'm tired of moving my mouse to the drag handle.
Secondly, I was using three finger swipes to navigate to the previous and next folder in Finder.   Since two finger is used to flip through cover view, I see why they couldn't extend the back/forward function to two finger swipes as they did in Safari and I know that three finger swipe is used to change desktops.  I wish that Apple was more creative to leave this function in somehow.
Is there a way to bring these functions back to Finder?  These are the functions that I used all the time.

That doesn't explain why they would remove the pinch to zoom in and out.  That is not be used by anything else in finder.  If I'm going through pictures, I would like to zoom in on the images for cover view.
As far as the three figure swipes to go back and forth in finder, I understand why that has been removed.  However, Apple could have implemented the two finger swipe just like in Safari which is sensitive to the acceleration of the swipes.  If you swipe with two fingers somewhat fast, you can go back and forth between previous and next page.  If you swipe with two fingers slowly, you can pan left and right on the same page.
They could have done something to retain the functionality versus taking out the functionality all together.  As of now, these functionalities do not exist.  I'm hoping that something is going to change and we'll have to see what the future brings.

  • Gestures in finder

Zooming Gesture and two-finger back or forward gestures don't work in finder! How can I fix this!

below is the reply from the linked thread that will fix the "problem" you are asking about.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15737724#15737724
"Go to system preferences - trackpad and under more gestures select from the drop down menu the option to swipe with two or three fingers to move between pages. You will be able to go back and forth pages with a three finger swipe in finder, app store, iphoto, firefox...etc and at the same time use the two finger swipe feature of OS lion on safari."
Basically the new default setting for Lion turned these gestures off but they can be turned back on quite easily.  I think that this should have been the default as it does not make much sense to turn these gestures off.

  • Flash AS3 Pinch Gesture Support

I'm working on a Flash as3 project and need to detect a pinch (move two fingers toward each other )

  • How to go back in Finder with touch gesture?

In Snow Leopard, I could to go back in Finder with two finger swipe. (equal with Safari's backword gesture)
Now, Safari support go back by one finger swipe, but Finder does not. How can enable this?

I think there might be a bug or two in how Finder responds to gestures.
    1) Finder does not use "Natural" gestures - the above solution does enable the Forward/Backward gestures in Finder, but they work exactly opposite from Safari.  Swiping left should got forward and swiping right should go backward.
    2) Finder requires 3-finger swipes for forward/backward, but Safari uses 2-finger swipes. This is annoying because I have to train myself to use different gestures for the same functionality. And it is also a true limitation bug because I cannot have both the "3-finger drag" and the "2- or 3-finger forward/backward for Finder" gestures enabled at the same time.

  • Finder Back/Forward Gestures Gone?

I am not able to use the Back and Forward gestures in finder in Maverics.
Does anyone know how to activate it or has this really useful feature been completly removed in the new version?

Gestures is not working like it did before. The side to side, forward back swipe, is very picky. Sometimes it takes four or five tries before it works. And yes I know how to do it. I have had a magic trackpad for about one year. And was greatly pleased by how it worked, BEFORE Mavericks. It has has indeed changed.
