Expand/Replace Hard Disks

We have an Oracle Implementation that is Live for 2 years now. We are using SunFire V100 servers. It is a 2-tier application, one for database and one for apps. The problem we have is that we are running out of Hard Disk space on our servers. Each server has 4 slots for drives and all 4 slots are full.
What would be the best available option to increase the storage capacity?
Is it possible to use Network Attached Storage(NAS) with Sun servers?
I would really appreciate any ideas/suggestions.
Thanks,

OOPS! I meant EFI labled disks. Is it enough to destroy the label, the first 34 sectors, expand and relabel? Or is there more of a trick?

  • Getting "replace hard disk error (#10008)" even after replacing hard disk

    Hi!
My laptop- HP Pavillion dv 6502- is 4 years old.
Recently, the hard disk supposedly crashed as I was not able to get anything other than a blank screen. I checked with BIOS diagnostics, and it showed error #10008- Replace Hard disk.
So, I went to an hp service centre and got the hard disk replaced.
My earlier hard drive was a Seagate 160 gb momentus 5400.3 disk.
New one is the Seagate 250 gb disk.
The laptop was working properly the day the hard disk was replaced. BIOS diagnostic status for the disk was "Passed"
But, the very next day when i tried starting the system, I got a blank screen again. I again went to BIOS and ran the diagnostic test. I performed the test twice. It took a lot of time to finish- jumping from Reaching till '80% complete', then jumping back to '10% complete', then '90% complete', then '10% complete', and so on.. finally showing '100% complete' and status : #10008 - Replace hard disk - both the times.
Then, I had to go out of station and so, I didn't touch my laptop for 2 days. When i came back, the computer was working fine and the BIOS test status said "Passed" for the disk
What could be the problem due to which my problem wasn't starting earlier- even after replacement of disk? Is it possible that the disk was not the problem in the first place?

    Hi!
Turned out the second new Hard disk was also not fine. I went back to the service centre and got the hard disk replaced again. This time the laptop has been working fine.

faild -replace hard disk 1 ( warranty id - error code 10008)

    Hi,
The error would indicate that your Hard Drive is failing and will need to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.

3.are there any ways to retrive the data from the old hard disk. You can try putting it in an external enclosure to see if it can be read from the OS of another PC you have access to. There is no guarantee that it wil work.
4.what are all the reason why my hard disk get destroyed? Sadly,It just happens. That is why many of us back up important information to an external hard disk.
please identify your notebook with the p/n from the barcoded sticker on:
the bottom of your notebook or on the first screen of the BIOS.
Please post that information here and I will be able to provide you with more information
If you notebook is still in warranty the hard drive can be replaced as a warranty item (at no cost  to you for the part).
    Kind regards,

  • Error - #10008 Replace hard disk 1

I am pretty sure my hard drive has gone bad from other posts I have been reading.
I dont need any data off of this device.  I actually was just about to start deleting old data so I could give this device to a family in need.  Went to start the computer to start this process.  However, when I went to do this it went to BSOD.  Messed with it a little bit, then I got BSOD.  I fillany figure out to run test and got the #10008 replace hard disk 1 error.
As I would still like to give this family this laptop, my question is:  Where could I buy a cheap replacement hard drive.  Is it hard to do? And I dont think I have a back up/ install disk to but on operating system.  What would I need to do to get that going and would it be affordable.
I am totally willing to put in the work to get it back up and going, but was woundering if anyone would be willing to give me some instruction on how to do this.
Thanks a million for any advice and help.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Regarding reinstalling the OS on  the new HDD, here are two options.
    1.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below - these will reinstall the operating system, all required drivers and nearly all of the original software ( the exception often being trials of MS Office ).  They will also re-create all the original partitions, including the Recovery Partition.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
    2.  Another option you could consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn ( Note: You may want to de-select the additional software offerings during the installation of ImgBurn ) to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  The Windows Image source is Digital River.
    Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.

  • Replacement Hard disk for Portege P2010 - Part number required

Can anyone tell me what the part number is for a replacement Hard disk for Portege P2010 is? It has the latest BIOS installed, can the HDD capacity be higher than the original 30gig?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi
Like Ivan said, there are no officials documents about a max size of a HDD.
I assume that you can use a 40 GB HDD but Im not 100% sure if the bigger HDDs will work.
    Please check this link:
    http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/devicetype-vendor-modelline-modelseries-partlist.aspx?devicetype=0&vendorlevel=ModelSeries &modelseriescatid=50972&partcatid=140744&filter =0
There you will find a 40GB HDD for Protg 2010.

  • Replacement hard disk for Satellite M30-604

Having problems with my hard disk and want to change it. Believe original was a IC25N060ATMR04-0 which appears to be a Hitachi 4200rpm 60Gb UDMA drive with an 8 Meg buffer. Can I replace it with a larger, faster drive? If so what spec must I have? Grateful for any ideas!

    Hi,
So, you just have to make sure that you install a IDE drive and not a SATA. The rest is obsolete since you dont have to take care for any specs like speed or cache. Just grab the biggest drive you can get and install it.
Thats all. In case of any questions just let your thougts flow into that forum here ;)

  • NB505-508BL Rebuilding replaced hard disk without recovery media

    Hi All,
I'm hoping for some help.  My brother has an NB505-508BL mini netbook.  It doesn't have a DVD drive, and so when he got the laptop, he decided he couldn't make the recovery media.
Last week his hard disk completely died, so I ordered him a new one.  I've just installed it and asked him for the recovery disk / image / media, which he hasn't got.
So I've been checking these forums and I can't believe what I am reading: Toshiba don't supply a link to a downloaded image for recover for software that the customers already own, but will charge an outrageous $30 to send out an image by post.
The main problem I have is that I like in the UK, so Toshiba wont send me the recovery disk or USB. So I pretty much screwed unless someone else can help me out with any of the following:
Is it possible to download windows 7 starter from Microsoft (or anywhere, legitimately) and install it onto the laptop, at least to get it going?
If I got windows going and downloaded all the Toshiba drivers from the website, would I be able to create the recovery media and re-image the hard disk to have the hidden partition with all the recovery data on it?
I'm desperate to get this going for my brother - especially as he spent a lot of money on the computer, and then I spent a lot of money replacing the hard disk!
Many thanks for any help -

    mini notebook NB505-N508BL
Probably your best bet is to have an acquaintance in the US or Canada request the recovery thumb drive and mail it to you.
       Order Toshiba Recovery Media
That's cheaper than purchasing a retail version of Windows and certainly much less trouble than installing all of the drivers and utilities (which are here).
Until recently it was possible to download Windows 7 for Netbooks from Microsoft. But that has for some reason been withdrawn.
You can still download Windows 7 from here. You'd want the x86 English version. That DVD contains all 32-bit Editions.
You can convert the DVD to a bootable flash drive.
Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7—Even on a Netbook
Note that Microsoft does not actually sell Windows. It sells product keys. Which edition you choose to install determines the price of the product key.
I'd guess you have a fighting chance of convincing the Microsoft activation people that Windows 7 Starter edition has already been paid for. If you're successful, they will issue a free product key for that edition (only).
This Microsoft toll-free phone number in the UK is for volume licensing, but maybe they will give you the number of the local Microsoft people for more info.

  • Replace Hard Disk ST336607LSUNG36G on Array Controller

    Hi,
There is a Sun Fire V65x server that runs Linux Red Hat Enterprise Edition 4.
This server has an Intel SRCZCR Array Controller.
The front panel has the disk light and warning light red. Also, one of the disks has a red/orange light instead of a green light.
The array controller advices there's one missing private hot fix drives missing, but the array also says SMART information is good for every hard disk.
I'd like to know how should I proceed to replace one of the disk.
From my point of view, and after reading the manuals, I have to shutdown the server, replace the hard disk, power up, enter the array configuration, choose I've done it always on Windows machines, but not on linux and Sun.
Repair Array Drives, and ask it to add the new hot fix drive. And that's all.
I understand there should not be do nothing at OS level, because is a Hardware array.
    Am I correct?
I've done it always on Windows machines, but not on linux and Sun.
    Thanks to everyone.
    Alex.

    Hi,
In your first post you state that the Hard Drive was failing, what led you to believe this?  Ubuntu seems to be easier on the HDD than Windows, so if there is a problem with the drive, it may just not be showing up yet.
Certainly, if there is a problem with the HDD, this would cause the failed recovery and buying a replacement set of Recovery Discs would be of no help.
Check the Hard Drive as follows.  Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

Indicating your location in your Public Profile makes it easier for those who respond to your queries. In addition, identifying your computr by processor speed will also be helpful.
Your computer will support a 2.5" Parallel ATA/IDE Hard Disk Drive. Here is a list of available drives. Use the filters in the sidebar to screen for capacity and manufacturer etc. then select and compare drives, or select the drive you like and Compare prices.

grateful for help on location of of the Hard disk on the Satellite A60-159 and any tips on removing and replacing the HDD.

    Hi
Well, I dont found any covers or slots at the bottom of the unit. In this case I think that you have to remove the keyboard and some other covers.
But if the warranty is valid you should contact the ASP for replacing because if you open the notebook or if you remove the covers you loose the warranty.
