Expanded air files

Hello,
We're using RoboHelp software to create our help files. The output is generated as .air file.
For deployment we're using InstallShield Basic MSI projects.
In order to include the help files we have 2 options:
1. Include the .air file in the IS MSI and run the AdobeAir installer (silent, eventually) to install the air files.
2. Include the expanded (installed somewhere and copied) help files / folders in the IS MSI and just copy them on the target machine. The expanded air files/folder do not require any other registration, etc, in order ru be used.
The first option would be the correct one, but I have 2 problems:
- I cannot (simply) fully identify the airinstaller.exe location (Versions/1.0/Ressources) considering that the '1.0' could be different on client's machine;
- A proper AdobeAir install will record the help package in the installed programs which will look weird as a distinct piece of software from our installed product.
So, I want to try the second option. This implies that the RoboHelp output .air file has to be first deployed (expanded) in order to get the list of files and folders.
Is it possible to set up RoboHelp so it generates all these files directly?
We are working exclusively under / for Windows OS.
Thanks,
Ioan

- I cannot (simply) fully identify the airappinstaller.exe location (Versions/1.0/Ressources) considering that the '1.0' could be different on client's machine; The Adobe Air product registration gives me references to Adobe Air folder, but not to the exact airappinstaller.exe location.
airappinstaller.exe? If you mean you cannot control where the AIR help is installed, wrong. Your author can create the .AIR file so that it installs the help to a specific location.
- A proper AdobeAir install will record the help package in the installed programs list which will look weird as a distinct piece of software from our installed product. Why would a Help be a standalone installed application?!?
I may be telling you something you already know but AIR is a technology used to create apps and you may be surprised just widely it is used and who by. The eBay Desktop app is one example. What the RoboHelp team did was create help as such an app.

  • DW CS5 "Get" bug in expanded site files view

    Hi,
    I just installed the CS5 Design Premium trial and have been playing with Dreamweaver. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the following issue...
    When in expanded site files view (showing both local and remote), selecting a file on the REMOTE site and trying to "Get" the file does not download the remote file. It instead tries to retrieve the remote copy of the file(s) selected in the LOCAL file list pane.
    If no file is selected on the local file list, pressing "Get" after selecting a REMOTE file from the list brings up the "Are you sure you wish to get the entire site" dialog.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Open expanded site files view (local and remote)
    2. Click on a file in the remote file list. For testing purposes, click on a file in the LOCAL list first, then select a remote file
    3. Click the Get button or right click on the remote file and choose Get.
    DW should download the selected REMOTE file if that was the last selected file prior to executing the Get command. (this is the action that DW CS3/CS4 does)
    I have submitted this bug in the official Adobe bug reporting system, but I'm curious as to whether others can reproduce this bug.
    Thanks

    @Murray, I think I have discovered exactly where the bug lies and how you may be able to reproduce it yourself...
    @quantumlight - do you happen to have your Site Files panel UNDOCKED and in its own floating panel??
    I work with Dreamweaver on a dual/multi monitor setup. I have my split design/code view on one screen, and the site files and code inspector on a DETACHED Files panel on the 2nd monitor.
    I did a full DW prefences reset and everything went back to the factory setting, with the Files panel docked to the right hand side of the DW program window. With it docked, I opened the expanded/split site files view and IT WORKED NORMALLY as is expected.
    However, as soon as I UNDOCKED the Files panel into its own floating panel and expanded the file view, the bug appeared and selecting a REMOTE FILE and pressing Get, asked to either download a copy of the selected LOCAL file, or if no local file is selected it asks "Are you sure you want to get the entire site"
    Redocking the Files panel back to its original position makes the bug disappear.
    I have tested this on two Windows 7 machines and one Mac Snow Leopard machine, both with the CS5 11.0.2 updates installed.
    It seems it's a Windows version only bug as both Win7 machines produced the bug, with the Mac machine NOT presenting the bug in either docked or floating panel state.
    Hopefully the Adobe DW guys see this soon and can work on fixing this bug in the next update.
    Do you think i should re-submit my previous bug report with this updated discovery?

  • When installing Windows 7 using Bootcamp, expanding windows files gets stuck at 65%?

    I was installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my Macboom Pro Retina with Bootcamp, and when it reached the "expanding windows files" stage, it got stuck at 0%. I waited a few minutes, and the percentage began to increase until it got to 65%, at which it stopped again. I left it for a while, but after coming back nearly an hour later, it was still stuck at 65%, so I canceled the installation by clicking the close button of the installation window. It froze after that. I could move my cursor, but I couldn't click anything. I got impatient and held down the power button to shut it down manually. When I restarted the Mac, it played the normal startup sound then went to a black screen with a blinking dash symbol in the upper left corner. It's now stuck on this screen. I'm scared I might have really screwed up my computer. What do I do?

    Edit: Fixed it by just holding down the option key when it restarted. Don't know why I didn't think of that before. I also removed the partial Windows download and the whole Windows disc partition using Bootcamp.
    I think the reason why it didn't work is because I used an OEM version of Windows 7, which is to say I bought the licence key off of some website for $35 and they emailed me with the key and an .iso of Windows 7. I read somewhere that using OEMs with Bootcamp is not recommended. But that leads me to another problem - I really do want Windows on my Mac since I have some programs that would only run on Windows and I bought PhotoShop Elements 12 for the Windows platform and to switch platforms I would need to upgrade to 13, which costs almost as much as buying the original. And I don't want to go buy a proper Windows installation disc, that would mean wasting the $35 I already spent.
    So is there any way I can actually install Windows safely with my OEM version of it?

  • Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Expanding Windows FIles, reboots

    Trying to do clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit to Lenovo Thinkpad  X140e laptop.  I boot up the DVD, get to windows advanced install, add AMD AHCI driver from CD and start installation. Anywhere from 7% to 70% completion of the "Expanding
    Windows Files" the laptop reboots with out displaying an error and because the install is not complete shows at "BOOTMGR is missing" message upon restart.

    I received an answer form someone in the Lenovo Support Community Forum.  Because this machine was a Preload Windows 8 with UEFI BIOS, he suggested opening a command prompt in the windows GUI installer (Shift -F10), run DISKPART with the CLEAN ALL option
    and wiping the disk.  Even though I had deleted all disk partitions via the Windows GUI installer, apparently there was a hidden partition causing a problem with Windows 7 install.  After wiping the disk, I went back to the Windows installer and
    clicked Next. It copied and completely expanded all the windows files!

  • Installing .air file on Windows 7 64-bit

    This batch command works in XP and in Windows 7 32-bit, but not in Windows 7 64-bit:
    @echo off
    REM
    REM  Set location to install to.  (This dir must exist or install wont work!)
    REM
    set INSTLOC="c:\producthelp"
    REM
    REM  Install help.
    REM
    AdobeAIRInstaller.exe -silent -eulaAccepted -location %INSTLOC% "Product Help.air"
    (product name replaced with Product.) We are using the latest (today's) AdobeAIRInstaller.exe.   We have tried using identical syntax to install other .air files from the Adobe site; they did not install either. Is there something simple we're missing here?  Is there a known issue with installing .air files on 64-bit Windows 7?  I couldn't find one at this site.

    I think the reason you have had no reply is that no one has an answer. The only thing I can think of is to ask if the AIR file installs if you run it normally rather than from a batch file. If it does, then you know where the problem is but I cannot help you with that.

  • "Sorry, an error has occured. The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged

    Hello-
    I have an air application that is distributed via CDROM, the app is signed by a code signing certificate and timestamped. In mid-August when my certicate expired my users started calling stating that they couldn't install our product due to the following error: "Sorry, an error has occured. The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author." From my understanding a timestamped application is taken at a point in time when it's generated so why would it matter if the certificate was still valid? I have since replaced the certificate and will need to redistribute to my (thousands of) users however when I test it out using a future date and time the same error occurs. Any information to help resolve this would be grately appreciated.

    my command:
    C:\Users\HOME USE\Desktop\AIR Development\HelloWorld>adl

  • Size limit for how much video can be included in an AIR file?

    I'm making an AIR app to play a video locally.  It is on a PC with no internet connection, so the video (fv4) is  included with the air install file.  Is there a size limit for how much  video can be included in an AIR file? I seem to get the "...file is  damaged..." error when I include a video over 200mb. I use Flash CS4 to  create and AIR is v 1.53.

    I'm authoring in CS4 on a MAC with the latest OS and 4GB ram.  It plays fine on the Mac.  On a WIN7 PC with all updates and 4GB ram I get the errors if the air file that contains a video file over 200mb.  I heard that AIR 2 should solve the issue and that it is just a PC issue.. Maybe...   I have not tried using ADT to package the file.

  • Including a PDF in an AIR File

    I have imported a Word 2003 manual into RH8, updated it, then generated both an AIR file and Printed Documentation output as a single Word document. After fixing formatting/style issues in the document, I then converted the generated document to PDF from within Word. Now I am trying to figure out how to attach the PDF so that when users access the AIR file, the PDF is also available to them there should they want it. (In the past, we have always provided PDF versions from our website but would like to instead include them in the AIR file).  I know it can be done because I saw a demo AIR file that had it....
    I realize that there is a print feature within AIR but that prints out everything annoyingly large. We have roughly 10,000 pages of documentation....and I haven't found a way to configure the size.
    So 2 questions really - how do I attach the PDF so it displays in the TOC tree (or elsewhere) and is there some way to adjust the print feature that comes with AIR?
    Thanks for any help or insight you can provide!
    Kathi

    Kathi,
    I'm not sure about the print feature, but in terms of packaging a .pdf file with the AIR output, I asked virtually the same question in a topic like four up from yours. If you back to the Adobe Robohelp AIR output forum, it will be towards the top and is called something like "Embedding PDFs". It turns out you add them as baggage files. Then, once they are in the Project Manager as a baggage file, you can open the topic you want the link to be in, hold down shift, and then drag the baggage file from the Project Manager to the topic. It will then automatically create the link to the pdf. One thing to note is that to actually make the link work, you have to install the .air file and then open it. If you generate the air output and then press on that View Output button, the pdf link won't work. You must click on the Install button. Let me know if the thread I mentioned does not answer your question. Thanks.
    Sincerely,
    Robert

  • AIR Badge + RewriteRule fails - Downloaded file is not an air file

    Hi everyone!
    I'm not entirely sure my problem comes from RewriteRule but I've searched this forum for topics on corrupted AIR files and the Install Badge and tried almost every possible tip with no luck so I thought maybe my special issue comes from it...
    Here we go:
    I have a server-side script that builds AIR apps which are supposed to be installed (via an Install Badge). Those AIR apps are not stored at a public URL (for security reasons) but read (via PHP) when a specific URL is called. Let me give you an example (with fake paths) :
    The server-side built AIR app is store at /srv/data/air/myApp.air
    A RewriteRule redirects calls to http://www.my-server.com/air/999.air to http://www.my-server.com/air.php?id=999
    The air.php uses the GET id to read the AIR file :
    header("Pragma: public");
    header("Expires: 0");
    header("Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0");
    header("Cache-Control: private", false);
    header("Content-Type: $mimeType");
    header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=$name;" );
    header("Content-Length: ".filesize($path));
    readfile($path);
    With $mimeType="application/vnd.adobe.air-application-installer-package+zip" and $name="999.air"...
    When accessing the rewritten URL directly with a browser, everything is fine: the AIR file can be downloaded and installed as expected.
    But! When using an Install Badge linking to that URL, I get the nasty "The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged" message...
    And here's what's stored in .airappinstall.log:
    Starting app install of http://(...)/9889.air
    UI SWF load is complete
    UI initialized
    Downloading file to C:\Documents and Settings\Quentin\Local Settings\Temp\fla19D.tmp
    Received HTTP Response Status event
    Response URL is http://(...)/9889.air
    Downloaded file is not an air file.
    starting cleanup of temporary files
    application installer exiting
    Hum... And I'm stuck.
    Thoughts?
    I have multiple Install Badges in the same page, do you think this can break things?
    I've try adding the AddType instruction in a .htaccess file but it didn't change a thing...
    Thanks in advance!

    OK, I've got news.
    Bad news.
    In fact I realized the appurl set in the Install badge is (obviously) not called directly but by a script located at http://adobe.com/apollo... So your my session is not available in the script that is called and that reads the actual AIR file. So I can't check wether the user requiring the file has the right to. At least, not the way I intended to do it...
    I will keep you updated if I find something!

  • Can't package native installer on Linux with Flex SDK 4.5 : Invalid AIR file

    Hi,
    We've moved our application to compile against the 4.5 SDK.
    We're compiling it with Flash Builder (on mac) into an air file and as our application is using NativeProcess API, we're packaging it on each platform into a native installer with the following command (linux example) : adt -package -target native app.deb app.air
    We think we fall into the same issue as http://forums.adobe.com/message/3271944#3271944 but for the 4.5 DSK.
    On Linux it used to work with the following environment (env1):
    - Ubuntu 10.10
    - Java Sun 1.6.0_24
    - Flex SDK 4.1.0.16076 + Adobe Air SDK 2.5.0
    It stops to work when we upgrade to the new Flex SDK (env2):
    - Ubuntu 10.10
    - Java Sun 1.6.0_24
    - Flex SDK 4.5.0.20967 (with the default embeded Adobe Air SDK 2.6)
    The faut message is "Invalid AIR file" and nothing is logged in the log file (/home/<username>/.appdata/Adobe/AIR/Logs/Install.log).
    1) The .air file is installing correctly on env2 (without the support of the NativeProcess as expected)
    2) We also tried to compile the project directly on env2 :
    amxml app.mxml
    adt -package -storetype pkcs12 -keystore cert.p12 app.air app-app.xml air.swf
    The .air file is installing fine but the packaging into a native process fails in the same way...
    3) We tried to package a native installer of our .air file on env1 and it works!!! (the installed application seems to work fine also on env2!!!)
    Are we missing something or does it seems to be a bug of the Flex SDK 4.5?
    Are there some restrictions to package a native installer with the Flex SDK 4.1 a air app build with the Flex SDK 4.5 ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mich

    Hi,
    Finally we figure out how to solve the issue.
    The packaging into native .deb installer fails as explain above because with the hole Flex SDK 4.5 (adt -version told 2.6.0.1920).
    The packaging is successfull if only Air SDK 2.6 is install.
    What is strange that both adt seems to be the same "2.6.0.1920" (found with "adt -version").
    Can someone from the Adobe dev team explain it?
    I suppose as the Flex SDK is not available for the Linux platform, the download only contains the Air SDK for Windows and Mac OS as opposed to the specific download of the Air SDK for te Linux platform...
    Thanks,
