Expanded iBook G4 Memory Dilemma

Hi, I have upgraded my 14inch iBook G4's RAM from the original 512 MB to 768 MB DDR SDRAM. The install went perfectly, and the system recognizes the 768 MB RAM. There is, however, a dilemma. After upgrading the RAM, I still notice some slow performance with my applications. The spinning wheel appears frequently sometimes with only a handful of applications running. Using the Dashboard widget iStatPro, I think I have found out why this is occurring. According to iStatPro (with just Safari, Mail, and Stickies open), I see the following approximated stats:
WIRED: 154MB
ACTIVE: 358MB
INACTIVE: 240MB
FREE: 9MB
The problem, it would appear, lies with the free memory. I have tried an application called iFreeMem to "optimize" the ratio of inactive to free memory. I have had fantastic results with transferring inactive to free memory. Unfortunately, iFreeMem is not free software. I was curious if there was a free (perhaps UNIX/Terminal) way of doing this optimization. It seems silly to have to pay for more memory, and then not being able to use it without paying for a third party program. I would appreciate any insight anyone can provide in regards to this matter. You have 249MB RAM available (Free and Inactive). The fact that Free is low (9MB) is good. This is OS X making the best use of your system resources.Reading OS X Memory Usage
If these figures are like this whilst you do your main work your should look elsewhere for your performance increases such as keeping at least 15% of your hard disk free and reducing the number of widgets in Dashboard at any one time.

That's a broad question - it's possible that other wireless flash drives may work, but it is doubtful that all of them will. I am mostly familiar with AirStash, and it has been around for a long time. There are also portable wireless hard disk drives such as the Seagate Wireless Plus or SSDs such as the Kingston Wi-Drive. You have plenty of options to consider.

I transferred a file in Good Reader and openned the file via ibooks (my memory is 1.6 Gb), but the file won't open in ibooks, i cannot even locate it so i repeated the process, open the file via ibooks, i had the same result, it won't appear in the ibooks, so i repeated the process, I had the same result, but when i looked at the memory now it is 0 bytes (from 1.6 Gb to 0 bytes) but still i cannot locate the file in ibooks. i restarted my ipad 3 but again i cannot locate the file.. please help me... At the top of iBooks, tap "Collections", select PDFs, or if that's already where you are, select any other Collections options to see if your file shows up. If this doesn't work, well, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Memory expansion on Satellite 2410

I am planning to expand the memory of my Satellite 2410-601. It has 256 MB DDR at present. I am planning on using one more 256 memory module to expand the total memory to 512 MB.
What I would like to know is whether I can use any of the DDR memory modules available in market? Would there be any compatibility issues?

It seems that the notebook is able to handle the 200-Pin PC2100 (266MHz) DDR SODIMM memory modules!!!
You could upgrade the memory up to max 1GB (2x 512MB)

Generally you shouldnt have any compatibility issues. Its only important that you use the supported modules.

No Bios Update for Satellite: L755D-S5204 / Inability to change Memory Settings in Bios

Ok so I bought two new 8GB of BLUE Kingston Hyperx 1600 MHZ Memory Modules with heat spreaders recently from newegg.
I installed them, and my system recognizes the full 8 GB, but when running CPU-Z the memory MHZ is registering in at 665.5 MHZ.
I want to be able to run my Memory at least the STANDARD minimum 1333 MHZ if not be able to change the MHZ if possible to 1600 MHZ. I CANNOT DO THIS WITH THE BIOS THAT CAME WITH MY SYSTEM, AND I CANNOT FIND A BIOS UPDATE ANYWHERE ON THE TOSHIBA SITE THAT WILL LET ME DO THIS.
My system Laptop Satellite L755D-S5204 has the basic Bios that came with the system. However I do not know or CAN NOT FIND any flash updates to update the bios so I can change these setting.
My question to Toshiba Tech support is it possible to clock my system memory higher, and how do I do this with a BIOS that doesn't let me make any changes to my Voltage to my Memory, and doesn't let me make any changes to system memory or memory timing settings??
When you figure that out and if you could possibly help me resolve this problem, please email me because as a computer technician I am really intrigued as to the reason why Toshiba doesn't have a FLASH BIOS UPDATE that will let you change the Memory settings, and Memory Timings!!

BIOS does not provide such option!
I have no idea what graphic card you have but for example the Sat P850-138 was equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphic card.
This GPU supports dedicated VRAM (default 2048MB)
The available graphics memory can be expanded using system memory, through TurboCache
In case the system memory would be expanded to 6GB RAM, the TurboCache technology could use up to 4,095 MB VRAM

Installing 64bit OS and memory expansion

Can installing a 64bit OS on a R61-5KM allow me to expand the allowable memory within the unit. I currently have WinXP Pro and I know that even though I have installed 4GB of ram, the OS can only work with 3GB, even though the BIOS states that I have 4GB... this doesn't aply to UNIX varient OS's has I have tried 32Bit Debian and it sees the full 4GB. My question is however, if I wish to later on upgrade to a 64bit OS... NOT WINDOWS flavoured, does the hardware permit me to install more ram? thanks

It isn't possible to expand the phone memory but you can free up phone memory by deleting files, messages and uninstalling applications you don't really need.

Insufficient memory error when loading a large Excel 2007 file

My Tx shows approximately 110 M free memory. I have the Documents To Go version 11 applications, as well as the 1.9 M spreadsheet on a 2Gb SD card. when I try to load the file, I get an insufficient memory error, and the device does a soft reset when I touch OK. I haven't tried moving the file to the device memory. Would that help? Is there anything else I can do to get the file to load?
Any suggestions would be appreciated

It means not enough dynamic memory, or the "RAM" portion of the memory. You have 110 MB of free program memory, which is where everything is stored, and is largely unrelated.
You could try buying UDMH, (palmpowerups.com) an app that expands the dynamic memory area.
A soft reset before opening the file may help too.
webosnation.com is another option for help.

Memory Notebook MSI GP70 2OD

In my laptop is installed 8192 MB memory (from factory).
My BIOS says: Memory 1 not present
Memory 2 8192 MB (DDR3)
The program CPU-Z says "only slot 3" has memory of 8 MB.
Does this mean that there is 1 module installed?
Can I install a second module of 8192MB and expand so my memory to 16384MB?
How can i do that?

Did you finish the BIOS update process? Is there any unusual messages show up during the update?
Tell which version you had and to which version you're updating to.
If you can't enter the BIOS menu, then I'd say go for RMA service.
Update:
You can only install Windows 7 under Legacy mode/UEFI with CSM.

IBook logicboard problem

Hello
My ibook logic board has failed. It shows all the symptoms that are described by apple.
Is there any way the logic board could be repaired? Is there any kind of fix I could try?
I have tried to get it repaired by apple, but it is out of warranty and out of the Expanded iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program as told by my local apple authorized repairer.
I would be nice to get it back on the road as it is a vital tool!
Any suggestions, tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

My brother-in-law recently bought an iBook G3 600MHz from eBay. It worked fine for a few days, then the display (backlight) started to go out. Pressing on the case to the left of the trackpad seems to temporarily fix the problem. This suggests a problem with the logic board. I connected an external display to the iBook and the external display sometimes works fine even when the iBook display goes blank. Sometimes the external display shows distorted lines, then it goes blank, even though the iBook display looks fine.
Perhaps the display processor is not making good contact with the logic board? Perhaps there is a broken trace on the logic board?
What is your opinion on how to repair this iBook? From the discussions I have read, replacing the logic board may only be a temporary fix to the problem since there may be a design flaw in the iBook.
Personally, I think my brother-in-law should purchase a PowerBook. Between my wife and I, we have owned 4 PowerBooks and the we have had only one fail after 3 years due to a bad hard drive. I replaced the hard drive for $100 bucks and it had been working great since.

USB 1.1 on an iBook Blueberry

I am working with an iBook Blueberry that has until now been a faithful old work horse. Recently I have been unable to printto another old work horse my Epson Stylus 740.
I am attempting to confirm, is the problem the printer, the iBook or both.
In the Chooser, I am able to select the proper printer but I am unable to select a port. That part of the Chooser window is blank.
In Apple System Profiler, Devices and Volume tab the USB0 port showes "No Device Connected" even though the printer is connected there.
How can I isolate this problem beyond this point? Your suggestions will all be appreciated.

Do you know if the printer is USB 1.1 compatible as well as OS 9.
To test in order to isolate the problem, do two things.
1.) Test the printer on another computer, plug it in to maybe a windows pc or another mac to see if its detected, if not, then your problem is probably the printer.
2.) Plug another USB Device into your ibook. (Memory stick, mouse, keyboard etc.) If nothing is detected then the problem is your ibook, either software or hardware or both. But hopefully it is not that.

Insufficient extended memory?

I am trying to flash my bios - windows me startdisk but when i start the command from the virtual Ram drive it says insufficient extended memory. Should I expand the "extended memory" in some way and what to do to flash my bios

I do noyt give private help as that does not help others.
It sounds like you have the Config.sys file fouled up in a DOS startup disl. Or you are trying to flash using a DOS program in Windows.
Personally my suggest is always to have Live Update create a Bios Flash Diskette. Not to have Live update to flash it for you though. Then use the diskette that was created to boot from. This way you get a disk that will work and that sets up a RAMdisk that you actually flash from.

Which is faster - Member formula or Calculation script?

I have a very basic question, though I am not sure if there is a definite right or wrong answer.
To keep the calculation scripts to a minimum, I have put all the calculations in member formula.
Which is faster - Member formula or calculation scripts? Because, if i am not mistaken, FIX cannot be used in member formulas, so I need to resort to the use of IF, which is not index driven!
Though in the calculation script,while aggregating members which have member formula, I have tried to FIX as many members as I can.
What is the best way to optimize member formulas?
I am using Hyperion Planning and Essbase 11.1.2.1.

Re the mostly "free" comment -- if the block is in memory (qualification #1), and the formula is within the block (qualification #2), the the expensive bit was reading the block off of the disk and expanding it into memory. Once that is done, I typically think of the dynamic calcs as free as the amount of data being moved about is very, very, very small. That goes out the window if the formula pulls lots of blocks to value and they get cycled in and out of the cache. Then they are not free and are potentially slower. And yes, I have personally shot myself in the foot with this -- I wrote a calc that did @PRIORS against a bunch of years. It was a dream when I pulled 10 cells. And then I found out that the client had reports that pulled 5,000. Performance when right down the drain at that point. That one was 100% my fault for not forcing the client to show me what they were reporting.
I think your reference to stored formulas being 10-15% faster than calc script formulas deals with if the Formulas are executed from within the default calc. When the default Calc is used, it precompiles the formulas and handles many two pass calculations in a single pass. Perhaps that is what you are thinking of.^^^I guess that must be it. I think I remember you talking about this technique at one of your Kscope sessions and realizing that I had never tried that approach. Isn't there something funky about not being able to turn off the default calc if a user has calc access? I sort of thing so. I typically assing a ; to the default calc so it can't do anything.

According notebook specification your notebook was offered with 4GB of RAM but it can be upgraded up to 16GB.
Compatible RAM modules for your machine are:
2GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M2G
4GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M4G
8GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M8G
Unfortunately this notebook model doesn't have memory cover placed at the bottom side so I think memory upgrade by notebook owner is not supported. Theoretically you can do this alone but if you remove some hardware components this will cancel the warranty so I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
Memory modules you can obtain on your own and just ask service to put it in the place. I cannot imagine it will be expensive.
