Expanding & Dropdown Hotspots

I use RoboHelp X5. I currently use in all my help screens
expanding and dropdown hotspots. I use the dropdowns to display the
business rules of a screen and another for the field and button
names and descriptions. I use the expanding for words in a topic
that need a description.
Everything has been working fine until today when I went in
to edit some details in the dropdowns and there it was empty!!!!
There was nothing displaying HOWEVER when I clicked on ‘View
Selected Item’ and clicked on the hotspot word of Business
Rules it displayed the contents of the hotspot. So why is it in
editing that I now cannot see the contents and when you view the
topic and click on it.....it displays? Can someone please help me?
I'm desperate……

Have you tried enlarging the window when editing to see if
the text is there somewhere? Also try clicking in the editing
window and then hitting Ctrl A and Ctrl C then switch to Word or
Notepad and hit Ctrl V.
I am wondering if a style has been changed so that, for
example, you have a six inch left margin and just cannot see the
text.
I once needed a dropdown that was heavily indented and I saw
that effect.

  • RoboHelp HTML 9 - CHM file Different color shown for text of dropdown hotspot.

    Dear all,
In Design view of Robohelp, I see all dropdown hotspot text are green.  But when I preview or genereate the topic to CHM file, all dropdown hotspot text are blue like color of hyperlinks.
I don't understand why it behaves like that. Please tell me.

I recreated your index keywords and have identified what is going on.
When you click on CTV, Accept it opens the correct topic.
Now notice what happens when you start typing app after CTV. The highlighting goes to Enable so when you press Enter, Rh opens the highlighted topic. The highlighting will go to the last sub keyword. Try adding Zulu.
I will see if I can create something similar tomorrow using another authoring tool.

  • Editing dropdown hotspot content

We need to make extensive edits to our content, most of which is in drop-down hotspots.  Each topic within the project has lots of drop-down hotspots, and often several layers of hotspots nested within other hotspots.  Whether or not this was the best way to design the topics, it was done way back before my time and now we have to live with it. When you open the dropdown hotspot for editing, RH opens a small popup window, which you then have to resize. Is there a way to control the size of the popup when it opens, so that it always opens to maximum size?
I've tried opening the topics in other HTML editors, trying to find something that would display all the content at once, but haven't had any luck so far.  Anyone have any ideas that would help?
    FWIW,
When you have nested drop-down hotspots you have to open, resize and rearrange each popup, so you wind up with layers windows within windows.  It's a nightmare for editing, so let that be a lesson for anyone considering setting up their Help this way. :-)

    Thanks for trying.
Copying to a blank topic is probably just as tedious as resizing, but I'm going to experiment with it a bit.  If it's even a little bit easier, multiplied by 1700 topics it might be worth it.
As far as editing in Notepad or something, I'm fine with it, but we have some in our group that aren't very familiar with HTML, so I don't think it would work for eveyone.
The real answer, of course, is to get rid of those drop-downs, but that's a whole new can of worms.

  • "Add Bookmark" = expanded dropdown list

When I want to add a Bookmark in Safari 3.0.4, I click on Bookmarks / Add Bookmark, and I get a little window asking where I want to keep this bookmark. If I click on the drop-down list arrows, a very lengthy, fully-expanded list of all my bookmark folders and sub-folders, opens up. I've got a lot of sub-folders, so it takes a lot of time to scroll down to the bottom.
In Firefox, if I recall correctly, that drop-down list is collapsed - in other words, only the top-level folders show up until you start drilling down into the specific sub-folders you want.
Is there any way to get Safari to show me just the top-level folders and then let me drill down to specific sub-folders? It'd be a lot easier than scrolling through every folder and sub-folder I have.

    Hi all,
Unfortunately, there's no way that I know of to do what you've described. Hopefully someone will come along with a solution. While waiting though, perhaps you could also give Apple your feedback via the 'Report Bug' toolbar button.
That said, I have been a long-time user of Saft (shareware) and it provides an 'Add Bookmark Here' function to the Bookmarks menu, and to each subfolder therein. It's not an ideal solution, especially since it's a paid plugin, but I thought you might find it interesting.

  • CHM File Compatibility with 64-bit Applications

Does anyone have any experience developing HTML Help (CHM)
for 64-bit applications? Are the 32-bit CHM files created with
RoboHelp compatible on the 64-bit platform? Thanks for your
    help!

    Hi,
I happened to notice this post and thought, "Yikes, we run
our CHM files on 64-bit systems all the time and we've never
    checked whether they're working properly."
So I did a systematic check of the following on a 64-bit
system (Windows 2003 Server). Fortunately, everything worked
exactly as it does on 32-bit versions. Phew!
Context sensitive help works (pressing F1 in the application).
All links worked, including popup links.
All expanding and dropdown hotspots worked.
Both Index and Contents worked fine. Contents updated
automatically when I move between topics (as is specified in our
    project).
Search functionality worked fine. Search options, too.
Favorites worked fine. These reappeared even when I closed the
help and reopened it (as they should).
All of the above also worked when I opened the CHM file from
Windows Explorer (rather than from inside the application).
    Regards,
    Eileen
P.S. I should add that the help was compiled using RH7.

  • Please help with a DropdownIndex Component.

    Hello all,
I have a DropdownIndex component on my table. The user can click on it and choose some an account number from a drop down list. But if there is no number, how can he add a new account number?
The component set to readOnly - false. But I still can't input some text, like I do with the InputField.
Please help me with a solution.

    Hello Maksim,
    thanks for your advice.
You are right. It is not a good approach to add elements to each drop down.
I have already tried DropDownByKey. My question is:
Is it possible to remove a key from the table, so, that the user choose only from the values. Because I don't have keys for my field. In the table field keys are shown, is it possible to show only values instead of it? Can I change the look of the DropDownByKey-Table?
    So my scenario:
A user see value in the table, click and expand DropDown, where is the table, without keys. The user can choose the value he wants and it will be shown the table.
    Please help.

What exactly do you want to do with Designer? You need to install the Designer repository in a Oracle database before you can use Designer.
I suggest that you read the Repository Installation Guide (installed with the product or on OTN) and then go through the Designer Tutorial on OTN (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/designer/9i_collateral.htm#tut) to understand some Designer concepts.

I suggest that you read the Repository Installation Guide (installed with the product or on OTN) and then go through the Designer Tutorial on OTN (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/designer/9i_collateral.htm#tut) to understand some Designer concepts.

    Hi,
You could probably post your question in the Database Installation for a better reponse.
    Hope this helps.

  • Script error when viewing two specific topics from application

We are connecting a web help project to an application. We are getting the following rather non-descript scrip error when launching two of the help toics from the application.
Continued strange behavior is that we do not get this error if we launch the index_csh file from Window's explorer and navigate to the topic or launch the topic itself by clicking on the file itself. Any ideas? We have hooked up a .chm file in the past.

    Hi there
Do the errors disappear if you remove the hotspots?
    You said:
So, we are calling the webhelp from an application and on the ones where there are glossary hotspots, we get the error message. I do not get the error message when I open the help file via windows explorer.
So you are saying the WebHelp is stored locally? Is the application the WebHelp supports stored locally too?
Does the same thing happen if you insert an expanding DHTML hotspot?
    Cheers... Rick

The dump is from Oracle's 1.3.1 VM, not from your 1.4.1 VM.
Looks like the native code called by getAllOracleHomes is croaking.
How about you uninstall all of your Oracle installations (if any), clear out the Oracle registry keys, and start again?

  • Creating a dropdown menu from an image hotspot

How do you create a dropdown menu from an image hotspot? For
example, this website is a single jpg image with links generated
from hotspot coordinates on the image. Can I have someone click on
a hotspot and a dropdown menu appears?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Unfortunately, everyone knows, but nobody wanted to tell you.
    Given this fact -
    > this website is a single jpg image with links generated
    from hotspot
    > coordinates on the image.
one can assume that you are not very experienced with DW or
    even with HTML.
In that case, the practical answer to your question would be
    "no".
To create a 'drop-down' menu, you need to have a full web
    page (not just an
image with image maps), containing a menu HTML structural
    element. While
you *could* just place hidden elements on the page that would
    only be
revealed (i.e., drop-down) when your image maps are rolled
    over, the
practical reality is that this would be an extremely awkward
    construct, and
not only most likely beyond the ken of someone who is
    inexperienced, but
    also just plain 'not right'.
Sorry to give you the bad news.

  • Positioning of expanding hotspot?

    Hi there,
I'd like to set the position of an expanding hotspot in correlation to the trigger. How can I do this?
    Target situation
The expanding hotspot is shown directly beneath the trigger (here: button "Chapter B"). I want the hotspot to appear beneath the trigger but aligned top. So all hotspot content is displayed on the right of the trigger and expands only down. This is shown as model in screenshot "Target Situation".
    Problem 1
The first problem is, that the first line of the hotspot content is aligned with the line/row the trigger is in. This happens if I insert the whole hotspot content as a single image. So the first lines expands up. See screenshot "Problem 1".
    Problem 2
The second problem arises if the image is inserted in two parts to have a workaround for the top alignment. The second line within the expanding hotspot is displayed left aligned under the trigger - not left aligned in the hotspot. See screenshot "Problem 2".
I figured out several workaround with transparent placeholders. But how can this be resolved in a clean way be positioning the expanding hotspot?

    Hi there
Why aren't you using Drop-down hotspot for this? It would seem to offer just what you are looking for.
    Just curious... Rick

Uhh, wouldn't that defeat the purpose? Why not simply insert
the text and format it accordingly?
I thought that is the reason for the expanding text. To keep
it hidden until the user wishes to see it.
    Cheers... Rick
