Expanding Mainboard Memory..MSI 848P Neo-V

I want to know what I need to do if I want to expand the memory on my motherboard.  It says it has a 2gig max using non-ECC but can be expanded up to 3.2 gigs.  How do I go about doing that?
Or can anyone point me to some websites that explain this process, what types of things I might need to do it, that sort of thing.
Thanks

how big is the memory you have now first of all?

  • MSI 848P-Neo - Mobo don't start at all

    Hi,
I have a MSI 848P-Neo mobo with a P4 Ht 3.0 Ghz on it. New PSU 360W Enermax (12V 26A, 5V 32A, 3.3V 32A). No HDD or CD Drive are plugged. No card in PCI slot, except VGA in AGP Slot. 1 RAM stick in slot.
When I power on the system, the D-Bracket with Diag led light as follow:
    1 and 3 are red
    2 and 4 are green
I check in manual for signification but this case isn't in the manual.
I don't hear beep from speaker.
Can you confirm me that is the mobo the problem ?

Have you Clear CMOS Guide yet with power cord removed from the PSU 1st?

  • Problems with adding 1Gb memory to 848P Neo

I have had an 848P Neo since February now, with only 512Mb, but seeming as some games and applications I have been running are now taking 512Mb as a minimum, I decided to buy another stick of 512Mb PC2700 333Mhz DDR to take me up to 1Gb. But I struck a problem.....
With both sticks of memory in the machine, the computer fails the memory 'POST' test on reboots (not boots from power off, but when something makes it reboot. ie: BIOS or WinXP). When I do get into Windows, the Core Centre utility acts weird too. It locks up the whole machine, whether you are trying to 'restore' it, or adjust the FSB. It won't even shut down or Ctrl-Alt-Del with it (this is surprising as I have never had to turn off or reset it via the case, as all lock ups have been recoverable).
With either of the sticks in on their own, it works fine. eg: Stick 1 in DIMM 1 or 2/Stick 2 in DIMM 1 or 2. But when they both go in at the same time I get problems. Both sticks are of the same CL according to the Everest System utility.
I have been getting help from my magazines forum, but they seem to have hit a dead-end too. Thread is here.
I would also like to add that I don't think it can be because one stick is Kingston (I think) and the other PNY, as I took the Kingston out of my second comp (same memory) and it still wouldn't work.
I hope I can get this fixed soon.

How do you up the 'VDIMM'? lol.
I don't think it is a mixing prob, as I took the other stick from my other computer (all the numbers on the memory chips are exactly the same, except it is a green stick instead of blue), and the problem still existed.

  • MSI 848P Neo Series MS-6788 Model

    Hi,
I'm new to building PCs and I have just built a P4 2.8GHz 800FSB Machine with an 848P Neo Series motherboard.
    I have a few issues:
I cannot use a PS2 mouse it simply will not work.
With my PS2 keyboard, turning on num lock or caps lock causes the PC to lock up.
Is there some sort setting in the BIOS I need to change or is the board faulty?
Another issue I had which has now magically fixed itself - when I turned the pc on, I had to turn num lock on and then off to get the monitor to come off standby and to get the pc to start booting - any ideas?
Could you please help with with these problems as I don't have long to return the motherboard if it is faulty.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Maggioni,
Look on side on PSU.....somewhere the will be the different "Rails".... list 12V,3.3V,5V, in AMPS. IE- 12V+ = 20A etc.
Hmmm, as for Keyboard.....is it a standard 105 or 102? Maybe, it is an enhanced with extra keys? Wireless or Corded. (If wireless....try changing the batteries)
Also try changing keyboard....borrow or buy a budget one.

  • [845 Series] mb msi 848p neo-v problems with sound card

Since I've bought my new MB, I'm experiancing some problems with my sound card. WinAmp and MusicMatch Jukebox ( any version) does not support 5.1 sound system, but playing in stereo system. The soundcard AC97 is OK, cause Winows Media Player is working properly.Does anyone had such problem and solved it?
I must say that I've already used MSI MB, and all APPs worked properly with the same sound card. The difference is that my ex MB was based on old Intel processors, but not Presscot based as this one.

Have you installed the latest driver to
    the Realtec soundchip(ALC 655)?

  • MSI 848P Neo-V boot problem

    Hi!
Boot problem still persists. First I thought it was due to the lack of CPU microcode support (tried to use Celeron D 325, I didn't get confirmation for this support from anywhere, a bit disputed thing). Now tried with a 2GHz northwood Celeron with no success. All parts are unused. Maybe my memories (2 x TWINMOS DDR-400MHz 256MB with m-tech chips) are not compatible with the motherboard.
Just came to my mind, does P4 systems require a heatsink for a POST operation, mean is there some sensors which make the CPU to refuse to work if no cooler is attached to mainboard? I tried to make things work traditionally without heatsink for a quick lookup...
    -Thanks,
    netnode

I did not understand. Is heat sink mandatory? At least P3 and earlier did not require heatsink. Once a boxed P2 (buil-in fan) required to attach the fan cord to the mainboard to boot up, so I also did this.

  • MSI 848P Neo-V (MSI MS-6788)

    Hi,
Sorry for bringing a question about kind of prehistoric motherboard, but it still do the job for me (for now).
I have upgraded my hard disk to a 500Gb Samsung (SAMSUNG HD501LJ), which SATA II. I knew very well that my motherboard does not support SATA II and only SATA I.
However, as I wanted to check the HDD, I noticed using HWINFO32 that the HDD details about transfer mode are as follow:
    Ultra-DMA Mode: Total: 7 (SATA), Active: 5 (ATA-100)
So of I understand well, although capable of running in SATA I, the disk is still running in ultra-DMA 5 (=ATA 100), correct?
I have tried various BIOS setting according to the manual:
    Native Mode:
    ATA Configuration: PATA+SATA
    S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    PATA Channel Selection: Both
P0-1st/P1-2nd or P0-3rd/P1-4th (does not change anything)
    I have also tried:
    Native mode
    SATA Only
    P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    PATA Channel Selection: Both
    Combined Mode Operation: SATA First.
    S-ATA Ports Definition: P0-1st/P1-2nd
    Results are still the same.
    So few questions:
    1/ Am I missing something?
2/ Do I need to set jumpers on the MB or on the disk?
3/ Do I need to install specific Intel SATA driver (either during Windows install or after)?
4/ Is the BIOS configuration correct?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Cheers,
    Rv
PS: I am running Windows XP SP2.

Performance of S-ATA l and Ultra-DMA 100 P-ATA are just about the same so I wouldn't waste any time worrying about it. I compared 2 HDD's I have a few years ago, Maxtor 60 GB Ultra DMA 100 P-ATA and Maxtor 80 GB S-ATA l and performance was exactly the same for both of them.

  • CL3 Memory wont work on Intel 848P Neo Mainboard? any help?

    Hi,
I purchased Kingston DDR Ram recently and put it into my computer. It worked fine but sometimes I start computer up and it comes up with a message saying something is wrong with the memory timings. I dont think it is configured properly.
In the BIOS there was an option to "CONFIGURE DRAM TIMING BY SPD" and i set that on ENABLED. If i set it to DISABLED then there are other options that I have to set.
    These options are as follows:
    1. CAS# Latency [Options 2 or 2.5 Clocks];
    2. RAS# Precharge [Options 2, 3 or 4 Clocks];
    3. RAS# to CAS# Delay [Options 2, 3 or 4 Clocks];
    4. Precharge Delay [Options 5, 6, 7 or 8 Clocks];
    5. Burst Length [Options 4 or 8 Clocks].
These are the 5 settings i can modify and in the "[]" brackets are the options i can select from for each one. Could you please tell me how I am to configure this in order for the memory to work. The Ram voltage is set at 2.6v. The CAS# Latency only allows 2 or 2.5 clocks so im not sure if thats the problem or not.
The specifications of my computer as as follows:
    RAM - Kingston KVR400X64C3A/1G 1GB PC3200 CL3 184
    Motherboard - MSI 848P Neo (MS-6788 v1.0)
    Motherboard BIOS - A67991MS v1.0081203
Motherboard firmware - V1.0 initial release
    CPU - Pentium 4 2.53Ghz
Regardless of the settings I have done so far, if it works past POST and loads windows...after sometime it randomly resets. Any idea why this is the case? I suspect its the CAS Latency. The manual says you can select 3 Clocks but i dont see that option, just 2 or 2.5

The Kingston Site is not always correct or to be more precise:  it does not state the operating conditions under which DDR-400 is possible on this mainboard.  In this cases the problem is not the modules as such (they are able to run @DDR-400) if they are put into a system that supports that.
In your case the problem is the mainboard's chipset which can only make the memory run @DDR-400 when an FSB-200-MHz processor is installed.  You are currently using an FSB-133-MHz processor.  With such a processor, the maximum memory clock speed that the system can run at is DDR-333.  I just checked the Intel Datasheet for the 848P Chipset.  That is also the reason why all DDR-400 modules mentioned in the official MSI Memory Test List for this mainboard were tested with an FSB-200-MHz-CPU installed.
The only thing you can do to get aroung this "problem" is to install a supported FSB-200-MHz-processor.
    Quote
Also, when i look at my motherboard manual, it shows option for 3 as CAS latency but in reality when i check the bios its not there (which im assumin is reason y it wont work).
It would probably be there once a processor is installed that will enable higher memory clock speeds than DDR-333.  However, the actual CAS latency is only of secondary importance here.  The main question is why DDR-400 is not possible (which would automatically yield a CAS Latency of 3 by settings the values in the corresponding SPD Profile).  And as I said:  DDR-400 is only possible with an FSB-200-MHz-Processor.
With your current configuration, the highest possible memory speed is DDR-333 @2.5-3-3-7.  In case that runs fine & stable everything is working as it should.

  • 848P Neo-V

Hello, I've just bought a mainboard MSI 848P Neo-v, Intel P4 3.0Ghz Prescott, and a PowerColor Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. My problem is that all 3D games gets all messed up, and its getting worser the more you play, dots and stuff. I´ve tried everything i think, changed Agp 4x/8x, fastwrite, changed position of power to graphic card, new/old drivers, bios etc. but nothing works. When i istall PCalert4 it gives me a warning that 3.3V is down under 2.8V, and when i istalled corecenter it tells me the same and that vcore is up 1.7 - 1.8. Is there a way to alter does values? Like boost the 3.3V up.. I think it has to do with the graphic problem, does anyone know? Please help!

    Hi,
I would say 4.9Mb/s on such a large file is good....
    1GB = 1024Mb
    1Gb = 2.5 mins to transfer
Therefore 4.9Mb are transferred every second...... If you are looking for the 100MB/s that's PEAK and not actual......

  • Problem with 848p NEO V and GeForce FX 5600 point of View

    Hello there,
I have bought a mobo yesterday (848p NEO V) then when I tried to plug the graphic card (Ge Force FX 5600 point of view) the computer reboots just before entering Win XP PRO.
So I tried another graphic card (ATI 9200), all worked fine.
In the same way, I tried my GeForce in another mobo (ECS P4VXAS) and of course all worked fine.
Each time I tried the MSI mobo with the GeForce card (using diffrents drivers), it doesn't work.
Does someone know where could this problem come from?
    Thank you very much

  • MSI 848P -- need help

    Hi guys,
I just installed a new computer with the following components: MSI 848P neo motherboard, Intel 2.6GHz 800 CPU, 512MB DDR400 RAM, 80GB WD hard drive (IDE1 Master), 30GB Maxtor HD (IDE2 Master), DVD-RAM drive (IDE2 slave), ATI Radeon 7500 video card, Windows XP pro.
Here is my problems:  It takes roughly 30s or more just to detect the IDE devices.   Sometime, the system would not recognize the HDs and therefore It would not boot to windows XP (A warm boot will fix that).  Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I connected the sound header to the front audio and microphone connectors, and the cable TV cable to my ATI video card.  The ATI TV requires that I connect its audio output to the "LINE IN" connection in the sound card.   I don't seem to be able to play sound to my speakers connected to the back of the computer, the head phone connected to the front connections at the same time while having the "LINE IN" available for TV output.  Any advice?
    Thanks,

Are you sure that you have your "Boot Device Selections" set Correctly?....And how about the "On-Chip IDE Configuration" Settings? in the BIOS.....Go back and Double Check ..................Sean REILLY875
