"Expanding" questions...Booster cables...etc.

Hello...I have several questions. So I’m gonna start off with that em blond about the internal workings of the Mac Pro, however I would like to be a brunette and learn As this could be really simple and I’m just making it complicated OR it is complicated…lol where em sure it isn't.
I have had this 1st generation Mac Pro for a year now and I would like to upgrade and expand on her. One, I’d like to upgrade the RadeonX1900 graphics card to the GeForce 8800 GT…sound be simple enough, right? But to that I’d like to add ‘two’ GeForce 8800 GT. As I noticed there is only one booster cable that is attached to the existing RadeonX1900…where I assumed I’d need more then one booster cable for this, right?
On that note would I need many other additional booster cables if I’d like to add other cards like more USB and Firewire ports? If that is the case how can I obtain this booster cables that accommodate more then one to supply power to the card units?
Lastly, when I configured and bought the Mac Pro i did it without the Bluetooth feature and I’d like to add this now. How can I do this?
Any suggestion and or help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks, Bri

You can install two GeForce 8800 GT if you remove the Radeon X1900. Put them in slots 1 and 2. Each will come with an auxiliary power cable. There are two sockets on the mother board for those cables. See Firure 4 in
<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWtechPCI/Articles/pciimplementation.html>
Be sure to get the correct version of the GeForce 8800 GT
<http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB560Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjE0NTg5NA>
Using the Expansion Slot Utility (/System/Library/CoreServices/), set the PCI Express slots to:
x8 x8 x1 x8 or x8 x8 x4 x4
Other PCI-e cards made for a Mac Pro shouldn't need any power cables. If you find one that does, look for a different one.

    Hi,
For many 17" (or 17.3") machines such as Envy 17, dv,  Pavilion 17 .... you can add a second HDD (my old loan dv7 has two HDD's and my current loan Envy 17 also has 2 HDD's). You would need the following kit:

  • Need PCI-Express booster cable pinout/connector pin matching

Does anyone have an upgrade card for the mac pro, like a NVidia Quadro 4500 or the ATI 1900XT? I need the pinout for the booster cable that comes with those cards so i can connect my 7800GT to the motherboard to get the extra power.
If anyone could provide the pinout for the motherboard connector, showing which pins have the ground and which have the +12V connectors i would really appreciate it.
An alternate pinout would be which pins on the video card side match which pins on the motherboard, which would be also very useful, something like:
    video card motherboard
    |-| <-- the clip |-| <---- the clip
    |1|2|3| |1|2|3|
    |4|5|6| |4|5|6|
    or
    video card motherboard
    |-| <-- the clip |-| <---- the clip
    |12V|+12V|12V| |12V|+12V|12V|
    |GND |GND |GND | |GND |GND |GND |
    Any help will be appreciated

  • Does ATI 1900XTX Need Booster Cable?

I just got a Mac Pro. I wanted to get the best video card for gaming, so I ordered the Mac Pro with just the standard nVidia FX 4500 card, and bought an ATI Radeon X1900 XTX (slightly quicker than the XT) from Buy.com.
Now I'm ready to install the thing. We tried just swapping cards and rebooting, but the monitor stayed blank. The fan was running on the card.
We then restored the original nVidia card, and everything is fine. I'm reading the Mac Pro DYI instructions for swapping video cards, and it mentions a power booster cable. It shows one hooked up to an ATI Radeon card, I assume the optional X1900 XT.
    * Do I need the power booster cable for my 1900 XTX?
    * Where do I get one of these booster cables?
    Many thanks for your help!
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Yes, the ATI card will need an extra power cable attached.
No, you can't use the ATI Radeon X1900XTX with the Mac Pro. That card is designed for a PC system. It does not have the necessary EFI chip that the Mac Pro requires.
There are only 3 cards that the Mac Pro will support at this time. They are the standard nVidia GeForce 7300 GT, ATI Radeon X1900XT and the nVidia Quadro FX 4500. Any card that you purchase that is not one of these (only available through Apple) will not work. Hopefully you can return it.
    Hope this helps,
    john

  • Where can i get a "booster cable"?

    Hi every body.
I have my mac pro for one month now, and i've noticed that i do not use my PC anymore. So i wanted to plug my 7800GTX to use it for gaming under bootcamp and have a little more power under 3d softs...
I saw that i can connect it via the molex power plug left into the superdrive bay.
Still i don't find this solution elegant, so i looked around and i found out that there is a "booster cable" for X1900 and quadro's.
But no way to find some place to get one!!
So if some one knows a place where i can get one, that will realy help me.
Oh and and i'm french, so i can get it only via web sites that delivers in my country...
    Thanks to all.
    See you.

Actually, I live in France too, and I could also use a booster cable (see sig.). Maybe there's a possibility for a group order ?

No, dude, if this guy can use it, so can most of his other neighbors. Let's point out a few things:
    1. This is very poor security, not to mention irresponsible of the neighbor to open his wireless to every person and pervert in his neighborhood!
    2. This guy still has NO control over who's using is, so of course bandwidth will be affected
    3. Until the neighbor locks it down to just 2 people, of course it will be slow
Let's start using our brains before we have the poor guy start deleting plists, getting the apple broadband utility, rebuilding his O/S, reinstalling the combo updates and/or repairing permissions (good one!) .... he simply has NO control over the speed of that which he's using/stealing.

  • My iPad mini with OS 7.1.2 suddenly will engage in uncontrolled actions such as opening and closing pages, switching between apps, expanding and minimizing pages etc... uncontrollably and I have to shut the mini down to stop the uncontrolled actions

My iPad Mini #1 with OS 7.1.2 began uncontrolled actions recently.  While reading a book in 3M Cloud App the pages would expand and then minimize on their own and then the uncontrolled action would open other apps and do the same by uncontrollably expanding and minimizing different pages in that app and then the actions would move on to another App and open it and expand and minimize pages and open different pages etc . . .  Initially I thought the problem was connected to the 3M Cloud Library App so I deleted it on my Mini iPad and also in iTunes on my iMac and downloaded a fresh app to install on my Mini.  However, that did not affect the problem.    The uncontrolled actions start in any app and begin every time I open my Mini to the point it is becoming useless.  Please help as I don't have a clue as to the cause of the problem or how to go about fixing it.

If this is still happening have you contacted APPLE support with the problem (same question to other posters).
If it is always after a certain length of time with active use - it may be overheating causing wear and tear on internal components.
Or - a bug in the software is causing sudden replay of what you just did.
Had similar issue with work owned IBM think Pad due to age and use in office area that was warm (not my choice) - it behaved as though the track mouse or keyboard was stuck - repeating same single character - open/close folders- would have to do quick shut down by pulling the pad out of dock and pulling the battery out -- solution - was to get new lap top after PC techs cleaned it and it still happened.

  • Question re cable to connect UPS to computer

The cable that connects my APC XS 1500 UPS unit to the computer seems to be defective all of a sudden.
I have no similar USB-to-RJ-45 cable handy.  Could I safely connect the data-out port on the APC unit to the spare Ethernet input on the G5-Quad with a regular Ethernet cable, or am I likely to mess up anything?
    Thanks in advance.

Well, I've heard back from "Shanmukhi" at APC.  Typical East Indian response:
Ramon, I understand that you are facing some issue with the cable. I am afraid to say that it is not recommended to use other cable rather than USB cable that ships with the UPS.
Other than that—and after exchanging the third email—they have not been helpful in the least.  Even after I've told them that a second, IDENTICAL unit is recognized when connected through the same cable and USB port, Shanmukhi gives me the usual nonsense about trying a different USB port, etc.:
I understand that the software has lost communication with the Back-UPS unit. If the UPS's USB connection is not being recognized, there are few steps that we can try:
    1. Perform Reboot of the system:
    a. Unplug the USB cable, shut down the PC, shut down the UPS.
    b. Switch on the UPS, switch on the PC.
    c. When the operating system is fully loaded, plug the USB in, and see if it is recognized.
    2. Check in your computer's Bios for the following settings:
    a. Legacy USB support should be ENABLED.
    b. Advanced Power Management should be DISABLED.
In case, the above steps do not resolve the issue, please click the link below for further assistance:
    http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=…
If you have any further question, please get back to me with the following details:
    1. Is the USB Host controller listed under Device Manager without an error?
    2. Does your computer detect the UPS via USB cable when the cable is attached?
    3. Is the USB cable attached directly between the UPS and Computer USB port?
    4. Have you tried different USB ports on your computer?
Looking forward to hear from you. I will be happy to assist you further.
All of that, of course, is totally irrelevant after I've told them that: "a second, IDENTICAL unit is recognized when connected through the same cable and USB port."
    Sigh…

  • Had to change my Apple ID because the original email address is no longer valid.  How do I change the iCloud user name on iMac?  I found instructions about signing out of iCloud and signing back end.  It asks questions about contact, etc.

Had to change Apple ID due to email address no longer valid.  Trying to change id for icloud...saw direction online about signing out of icloud and signing back in...when it ask questions about contacts, photos, etc. being deleted how do I answer those?  That just sort of freaks me out.

For the ones that give you an option, select the option you want (keep on the Mac or Delete). For the ones that are simply warning you, click on Delete from Mac.
They will all come back when you sign back on, since all you did was change your existing Apple ID to a new email address. It's the same iCloud account, just with a different name.
It's the only way to get your updated ID signed onto iCloud.

  • My Dell Vostro (running XP SP3) neither recognizes my iPad 2 nor my iPhone 4 correctly! I followed the troubleshooting guides and installed the latest iTunes. Both devices are recognised by my desktop PC running Vista using the exact same cable etc.

    Hello all,
my Laptop (Dell Vostro - running XP SP3) neither recognizes my iPad 2 nor my iPhone 4!
Both devices are working correctly with my desktop PC running Vista with the same USB cable!
I followed trouble shooting guides, checked that the drivers are present, installed, removed and reinstalled the latest iTunes (in the correct order together with the other Apple software components) etc. but nothing works! The interesting thing is that when I plug the iPad or the iPhone in the laptop's usb-port for a second Windows correctly shows the devices either as iPad or iPhone in the "Device Manager" with an exclamation point !!!    But then after a split second Windows allways switches the devices to Digital Camera and the correct iPad or iPhone disappears !!!     =>    That is why I guess that this is a driver problem!
Does anybody have any idea what else I can try?
Is there a manual way to install the drivers for the iPad 2 or iPhone 4?
Many thanks for your ideas and suggestions
    Edgar

Yes I know that (I always google first and ask later ). Too bad I find this out when it was too late. I was already on 4.3.

  • Mac Pro PCI Express Power "Booster Cable"

"Connecting the range extender to an Ethernet network so that the range extender could act as a wireless access point instead of a range extender."
Yes, I am essentially using it as an access point for the Mac Pro (attaching a simple ethernet cord in the back, it will automatically get a handshake with the network), and a wireless extender for my P.C. laptop and Power Mac G4.
If this doesnt work, I'm gonna move my cable modem and wireless router to my office (and attach Mac Pro directly to modem or router).
I dont want to have to buy a new Apple Router when I have a perfectly good D-link system going. It currently works with my roomates Powerbook and Airport Express Sation (air tunes), as we got it working last night. If all else fails, I wait till the new express card comes out and get it installed at my local store.

  • Mapping Question p3: .. etc.. namespace prefixes

Does anyone know why xi uses namespace prefixes like p3: p2: etc..?  I am trying to map based on an rfc as the target and a message from a wsdl as the source.  I can not test the map because it expects the test file ( from our partner ) to have all these P3:'s in it and it doesn't.  Here is a snippet of what is happening at translation ....
    <p3:Execute2 xmlns:p3="http://www.some/namespace/">
    <p3:transaction-limit type="Amount"><p3:value>99999999999</p3:value></p3:transaction-limit><p3:transaction-limit type="Number"><p3:value> 9999</p3:value></p3:transaction-limit></p3:daily-transaction-limits><p3:single-transaction-limits></p3:single-transaction-limits><p3:monthly-transaction-limits></p3:monthly-transaction-limits></p3:authorization-control><p3:request-type>Activate</p3:request-type>

    Hi Andrew,
the question is a little bit unclear to me. When I get you right, you have a WSDL that describes a message you get from a partner. You use this WSDL to define a Message Mapping. The Message Mapping does not work as expected. The fragment you have posted is probably what the Message Mapping seems to expect (according to the test panel). But the message you get from your partner looks different (it does not have all these prefixes).
I suppose that the schema contained in the WSDL (more precisely in the types-section) states that all elements have to be namespace-qualified (this could e.g. be done by having an elementFormDefault="qualified" in the schema). Thus, if the elements are unqualified in the message you get from your partner it simply means that the partner does not stick to the WSDL.
If this does not help you, I would have to see the WSDL and an example message that failed to work.
Note, however that there are different ways to express namespaces. If the document sent by your partner looks as follows:
    <Execute2 xmlns="http://www.some/namespace/">
    <transaction-limit type="Amount">...
it is logically equivalent to the one you posted, and the Message Mapping will treat them identical.
    Greetings

  • A few random questions- email, internet, etc.

Hello. I'm a new Mac owner...and a little frustrated. I've been reading forums and help pages for the last two months. I have several questions. What's the most effective way to receive answers? Post all, hope for the best? or one question at a time?
To begin, When viewing an email in mac mail I right click on a link. Sometimes my options include 'open behind mail' and other times it does not. What determines this? Is there a setting I can change to include it for all email?
Second, my internet connection is very unstable. I need to determine what and where the problem is. The typical situation is a server not available and I usually have to go to sys pref and redo the settings. Or I just start turning everything off.
As a new member to the forum, I've tried to read all the past posts I can and value the info found here. Please consider redirecting me if needed or sending me back to a pc forum if I cause too much trouble!
    Thanks-
    Tilly

    Hi Tilly,
No way we are going to turn you over to the PC hordes again...
Now I would say just fire off your questions and we will try to do our best and help you.
First things first: you might not be used to it from Outlook, but the Mail program of MacOS X is smart, and mightily so (most of the time, after all it is only a piece of software). There are intelligent algorithms in Mail that recognize certain patterns like e-mail adresses, phone numbers, Links, postal adresses etc.
Depending on what Mail thinks it recognizes it will offer you several options that are available to interact with that object. A short overview of the capabilities you can find in the help menu of the Mail application.
Concerning your internet problem it is difficult to help, I would need to know more: what kind of internet connection do you use, what exactly is the error message, do they occur when you perform specific tasks or just irregularly.
    Cheers Mate,
    Rene

  • What is make/model of modem currently used for telstra ultimate super boost cable internet

They have two models of modem for Cable 3.0 Internet currently, the CG3100 and the C6300BD, the CG3100 is the standard gateway, the C6300BD is the Max or the premium model. Both are capable with the Super Faster Speed Boost and able to provide speed of up to 100/2Mbps.

Hello The Good News is that I can guarantee the  CG6300 will go to 112 mb/s   and the CG3100  118 mb/s  (cable permitting, of course) The CG6300 will rarely drop a connection. Best wishes

  • Urgent: Solaris newbie question: group permissions etc

    Hi
I have a question on what is the best practice of working with solaris users and permissions. I'm using Solaris 10 and have created several users each with their home directory in /export/home. Then i have installed the sun webserver under /export/home/sun/webserver and i want all users to be able to use this, execute or copy over to the webserver.. would this be a valid solution or good practice solution tht i crete a group give it the permissions to read/write/execute and all the users i want to give this privilege to will be under this group. but then whats the use of having root like how would root user be different from the rest now...
    thanks...

If you just want them to be able to publish to the web, apache has a little built in script in the httpd.conf that will hook in a user directory. Read the /etc/apache/httpd.conf file for more info.
Whether this is best practice I am not sure. What you suggest will work but I would avoid it.
