Expanding speaker options?

A friend has a 20", G4 iMac with Pro Speakers installed. She recently purchased a set of wireless remote speakers for sound in the kitchen. The satellite speakers' transmitter plugs into the iMac's headphone jack. This does not permit simultaneous sound from both the Pro and wireless speakers. Is it possible to have both playing?
It is my understandiing that the Pro speakers have a jack different than the usual 3.5mm connection. If she were to buy aftermarket speakers with 3.5mm connectivity, could she then split the audio signal between the desktop and wireless speakers with a simple "Y" audio adapter cable? Would this get her sound in two areas of the house?
Thanks, dstaigl

Yeah,Apple Pro Speakers are a digital signal on a 2.5mm custom jack. I saw one guy on ebay had sold a pair of pro speakers with a 2.5mm - 3.5mm jack adaptor (I'm not convinced this actually worked though). The Y Piece and replacement speakers would seem to be the easiest solution (The other option would be Apple's Airport Express airtunes.)

  • Where has the speaker option gone?

I'm currently on itunes v.9. The speakers option, where I could have music playing from either the speakers on my laptop or from my external speakers via the airport, has completely disappeared, and now I cannot use itunes to play music at all.
How do I get the speaker option back? (It was in the bottom right hand corner of the menu bar.)
Thanks in advance for any advice on this!

I have restarted it - several times! It is most frustrating though. At least I have an ipod, so I don't have to sit in silence. Thanks for your thoughts, anyway.

My multiple speaker option stoped working when I installed my apple tv today,  can anyone help me?

Can you explain the 'stopped working' a little more - are you saying it crashes, freezes, errors, or just a straight open/close?

I am trying to fix a problem in streaming internet radio through an air port express device to my stereo system and have encountered dropouts in the music. I was told to,"Set Air Tunes to the multiple speaker option and include the computer". How is this done? Thanks for any help.

In the recent Jobs Keynote of the Mac Mini Intel and iPod Hifi etc. Jobs said that the update to add speaker option to video ipod menus is already out, but when you go to http://www.apple.com/ipod/download it is still 1.1, updater 2006-01-10

The 1.1 update has the speaker support for iPod Hi-Fi in it. You just don't see it on your iPod, until your iPod is connected to the Hi-Fi.

  • The airport speaker option not showing on itunes

I am connected wirelessly and can surf the net through the airport, but the speaker option is not showing on itunes. I have enabled it in the airport utility.

jackfsweeney, Welcome to the discussion area!
In iTunes->Edit->Preferences->Devices, choose the "Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes" checkbox to display a speakers pop-up menu at the bottom of the iTunes window.

  • No 6.1 Speaker Option in Control Pane

I have an Audigy 2 soundcard and the Megaworks 6. THX surround speakers. Through speaker setup in Creative's software I can choose 6. speakers and they test just fine. However, after loading a new game, Half Life 2, I found that I can not choose 6. speakers from within the game's options. Only 5. or 7. speaker options are available (besides all the lower end options).
So I went and checked what is set-up in Windows Control Panel -> Sound devices -> speaker settings -> Advanced -> and Windows seems to think I have 7. surround speakers.... It has no 6. speaker option....only 5. or 7. just like the options that the Half Life 2 game gives me.
I have the box checked in the Creative software to "Synchronize with Control Panel" but it doesn't seem to do any good.
Anybody have any ideas why Windows won't recognize that I have 6. speakers, or why it won't even allow me to choose the option of 6. speakers?

I'm having the same problem with mine
but i'm sure it used to work in the beginning

  • Audigy 2 ZS - Missing 5.1 speaker option on Creative Control Pan

I have an Audigy 2 ZS running the latest drivers for Windows XP Pro (according to the Creative Labs autoupdate page) outputting to a set of Logitech X-530 5.s. I cannot find any 5. speaker option on the Speaker Settings panel, or the THX panel, only 2/2., 4/4., and 7.. The 7. option is working, mostly, but I get a dead spot when the sound should be coming from my immediate right or left. Any way I can convince the software that I don't have 8-channel sound without losing my front center channel? Thanks!

  • Airplay will not give me "iphone" speaker option?

When in my Itunes and I try to change my speaker to "Iphone" it will only give "Dock Connector" and Airport express, why will it not give "iphone" as a speaker option?

Because you can only Stream videos and music from your iTunes library to an Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation), or music to an AirPort Express or compatible third-party device.

    Hi,
As a further test to identify whether this is a hardware or software issue, try the following.
    1.  Create a bootable Ubuntu CD - a guide on creating an Ubuntu CD and the download can be found Here.
    2.  When created, follow the guide on the link below to Try Ubuntu.
    http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/try-ubuntu-before-you-install
The 'Try Ubuntu' option runs the OS from the CD without the need to install on your HDD.  It will be slow running from a CD but let me know if you get audio.

  • Running iOS 7 voicemails will only play through speaker option

Received a sensitive voicemail. Tried playing it back through the earpiece on the device. The OS indicated that the audio was playing but no sound was coming out of the earpiece on the device. I proceeded to select the speaker option then hit play in the audio played through the speakers. I then on selected the speaker option plug in my headphones hit play and the audio came in through my headphones. I've already tried restarting my device I am running an iPhone 5 with iOS 7 the latest version. Any solutions or recommendations?

  • Siri only works when "Raise to Speak" option is activated

    Hello:
I have iOS 7 installed in my iPhone 5 and I have the following problem:
Siri only works when "Raise to Speak" option is activated. When I change this option and I try to talk with siri I do not receive any answer.
Please, could someone give me an idea to solve this problem!
    All the best
    jc

I am having this same problem.  The problem appears to be related to the microphone and must be a softwear issue.  The microphone works with other apps, and works when making and receiving calls.  It also works when I "raise to speak" to Siri, but it does not pick up any sound when I attempt to talk to Siri by holding the home button, or when pressing the microphone button on screen when in the Siri interface.  Is it possible that holding the home button to talk to Siri is somehow not activating the microphone?
I should also note that I have tried turning the phone off and back on.  I have tried the reset by holding the home button and the sleep/wake button, and I have even restored the phone in iTunes, although I did not set it up as a new iPhone, because I am not interested in losing app data, call history, messeges, etc.

  • No External Speaker Option.

I've had my Bose speakers for 3 years now.  All of the sudden my iMac only has an internal speaker option.
The Bose only work through the headphone jack now.  Thoughts?

well they do work with the audio out port (the "headphone" jack I spoke of). and that's how they've always worked (as it should.)
however the option now reads as:
    (  PREFS/SOUND/OUTPUT:  HEADPHONES/HEADPHONES PORT)
Why doesn't it say EXTERNAL SPEAKERS like it used to, is my question.  + I think the speakers sound worse. Maybe they are just finally going bad.
Oh yeah and Final Cut ALSO only has internal speaker playback option.
Tried the Audio MIDI before I decided to post this thread.
All devices are BUILT IN devices. Shouldn't there be an external output?
    Anyway, thanks!
