Expdb and impdb utilities

Hello,
I'm in an ORACLE 10g database, and trying to use the expdb and impdb utilities, but it keeps saying the command is not found. exp and imp work fine. My host system is LINUX. Does something else need to be set?
Rae

I believe that Oracle versions 10g and later provide both the orginal pair exp/imp, as well as the performance-enhancing *dp (DataPump) duo of expdp/impdp.  The DataPump pair do not use the same syntax as the original export/import.  As I recall, the dp enhancements are fairly ingenious, if you have time to read up on the dp tech notes.

I have a WD Passport HD attached to my Mac. When it was last connected it went into sleep mode and ran out of battery. Now I cannot find my HD in Finder and Disk Utilities is telling me it cannot repair the HD. I can see the HD but the volume part is greyed out. Any ideas on how to recover my data?

There are other methodologies of scanning a HD
which involve data extraction, but loss of metadata is often the result if the directory is corrupt.
Metadata is the info on what the data IS.
Like having all your papers thrown in the air, its all there, but just a giant mess.
This is why you always always must have several external HD redundancies of your data.  One isnt enough, neither is two really.

Was that your only copy of your priceless data?  Just that one external HD?

  • What happened to the Get/Set Date and Time utilities from RT 7.1?

I'd like to use the Get/Set Date and Time utilities that were available in 7.1, but disappeared after that. I see that the 7.1 utilites  call a dll that does not appear to be installed with LabVIEW RT 8 and later. What do I need to do to use the utilites from 7.1 that do not appear in later versions?

In Labview 8.2 and later there are two directories for vi.lib. settime.dll is located in National instruments\Labview 8.2\Targets\NI\RT\ vi.lib
This is the dll you want to use in order to call it use the same Vi as in 7.1 (RT set date and time.vi) and link it to the correct dll.

  • Export and Import Utilities

    guys,
Does the import and export utilities come with the client install or do you have to install oracle database to be able to use import and export utilities.
    Thanks

If you are using Windows the path to bin should something like below, it will be different depending upon the OS and directory structure you chose during Client installation.
In the DOS prompt(if in windows) go to the below directory and type exp help=y
    C:\oracle\10.2.0\bin;
or see the path environment variable(MyComputer-->Advanced --> Environement Variables) is set to the above directory. If not set this variable.
In unix or linux you can export the above path variable or go to the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory.
    Eg:
    C:\oracle\10.2.0\BIN>dir imp*
Volume in drive C is Local Disk
    Volume Serial Number is 103F-E6B3
    Directory of C:\oracle\10.2.0\BIN

Can you use spotlight to search for Disk Utility? Is spotlight giving you any result? If yes, between search box (it will appeard when inside spotlight you will type Disk Utility ie) in spotlight and TOP HIT you have an option called show all in finder. When finder window will be open, find Disk Utility, click on it once so it will be highlighted and then use CMD+I (i for India) and check under General section what is appearing under "Where".

  • Relationship between domain entries and sbin utilities

    Hi,
I've been experimenting with the DC entries (under o=Internet) and the service.defaultdomain configutil settings in my environment to try to figure out what the relationship between them is. Let me explain further:
I have a single database of users under: ou=people,o=myorg.com,o=myorg, with UIDs as strings of numbers only (i.e. no '@domain' postpended). I have multiple domains for which I handle mail - i.e. dc=domainA,dc=com,o=Internet and dc=domainB,dc=com,o=Internet. The inetDomainBaseDN attribute for both DC entries points to ou=people,o=myorg.com,o=myorg. I have two physically message store systems - one exclusively for mailboxes of users in domainA, and the other for mailboxes in domainB only.
Everything appeared to be fine until a recent upgrade (6.3 -> 7.3), when certain tools under <msg install root>/sbin stopped working properly. For example, an 'mboxutil -o' throws back practically all mailboxes as being orphaned. Reconstruct commands similarly fail.
Upon digging deeper, it appears from looking in the LDAP logs that these utilities (having walked the mailbox database it appears), do lookups in LDAP for 'UID@domain', rather than 'UID'. For example, a mailbox called 'user/123456789/INBOX' gives rise to an LDAP lookup for '[email protected]' instead of 'uid=123456789', and hence the lookup fails.
The reason I mention service.defaultdomain is because this appears to have an effect also - i.e. if I change this to 'domainB.com', then the lookups in LDAP involvinf users in domainA start to work again (i.e. no domain is postpended in the uid lookup), so I thought this may have an impact.
My questiosn therefore is: how can I get control over this scenario so that the messaging utilities don't perform incorrect uid lookups and hence fail?
    Thanks, John.

Hi Shane, unfortunately we had a false dawn on this one - it appeared as though our problems were resolved after using the inetDomainAlias approach you recommended. While doing so has simplified the process of adding domains to our environment while maintaining a single UG ldap tree, we are still stuck. Let me explain:
The original problem was that several commandline utilities were appending the default domain to the uid when looking that uid up in LDAP - i.e. the mailbox might be called 'user/john/INBOX' but the utilities (i.e 'mboxutil -o') were searching for 'user/[email protected]/INBOX'. Through experiment, by removing the domainUidSeparator attribute from the dc=domain,dc=com,o=internet domain entry, the problem with the command-line utilities disappeared... however ... logging in using Comms Express seemed to 'flip' the problem the other way - i.e. now Comms Express logins were causing the uid to be looked up as '[email protected]' instead of just 'uid' - so now the login is failing. NB: logging in via pop or imap are not affected - it just appears Comms Express is passing the compound uid in. So we can have either successful logins in Comm Express with command-line problems, .... or .... proper command-line working but no Comms Express logins.
    Do you have any thoughts?
    From ucwauth.properties:
    defaultdomain = domain.com
    ldapusersession.defaultugfilter = uid=%U
    configutil extract:
    service.defaultdomain = domain.com
    DC Root entry:
    dn: dc=domain, dc=com, o=internet
    domainUidSeparator: @
    mailDomainReportAddress: [email protected]
    mailDomainMsgQuota: -1
    mailDomainDiskQuota: -1
    preferredMailHost: staffmail2.domain.com
    mailDomainStatus: active
    inetDomainStatus: active
    inetDomainBaseDN: o=domain.com,o=domain

  • Carbon Cloner, SuperDuper and disk utilities

    Hey all..
I'm trying to clone my current HDD to the new one.
    1) In carbon cloner, I can only select one partition. If I select the mac parition, will that also clone the windows (on bootcamp) partition?
    2) SuperDuper doesn't have clone option, but it has "back up all files" option, is that what creates clone? Plus, windows partition is not visible in SuperDuper, does that mean once i clone the mac drive i'll be also cloning the windows partition?
    3) i'm going to install windows vista, i already found website telling me how to do it. but i'll lose the data on windows xp partition, will the disk utilities image creator help me save the data on the windows xp partition? (including all files, programs and settings).

    1. CCC will not clone a Windows partition.
    2. SD's Backup All Files is the cloning function. It also does not backup Windows partitions.
    3. Rather than erase XP you can upgrade it to Vista.
    4. Disk Utility's Restore option will clone a Windows partition. However, I have no idea if the clone is usable by Windows unless the backup volume's format is MS-DOS (can't be NTFS because it isn't writable by OS X.)
To backup your Windows partition either boot into Windows and use Windows backup software or use the freeware Winclone - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Ir.vsr and ir.utilities package not found

    Hi ,
How can I add the above 2 packages . I can not find those anywhere.
I have Java(TM) 2 SDK, Standard Edition Version 1.4.1 installed in my PC. But when I try to import above 2 packages it says
"package ir.vsr does not exist" and "package ir.utilities does not exist" .

Thanks, actually I have gone to http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/mooney/ir-course/ and saw the source code ir.vsr package. But it includes a package ir.utilities* which I couldn't find anywhwere.

  • Carbon Copy Cloner and Disk Utilities

I am trying to clone my drive to re-image all my computers (27), I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my new image and it works well; however, If I use disk utilities to restore another computer to the new image several files that should be invisible are in fact visible (etc, tmp, & var). While does this happen and how can I fix the problem. Remember I have 27 computers to re-image and 125 student accounts to manage the fix has to be easy.

    From "Supported configurations" at http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
"Mounted disk image. Cloning to a disk image will (obviously), not yield a bootable volume unless you use CCC to restore the image to a physical partition or disk."
From this, I gather that you must use CCC to restore the image. Presumably this would require using Firewire Target Disk mode, booting from a Firewire connected drive, or booting from another partition with the other Macs -- otherwise you would be trying to replace the OS those Macs are booted from!

  • Recommendations for both Backup and Defrag utilities?

    Hi:
Well, we have finally broken down and purchased an external hard drive to perform backups... only to discover there is no built-in utility on the computer for doing so. Does anyone have an inexpensive (or free) recommendation for good backup utilities? Same goes for a defrag utility?
    Thanks! Rich

    Hi, Rich & Tom!
I've been using SuperDuper! lately and am really impressed with it's user interface and ease of use. However, the latest versions require OS X 10.3.9 or later to run this program and earlier versions apparently aren't available for download, at least from the developer's site. I've used CarbonCopyCloner (CCC), too, and it would be an excellent way to clone the startup volume to a volume on the new drive, resulting in a duplicate of the startup drive. The current version will work with OS X 10.2.x. If Rich purchased a FireWire drive (versus a USB drive, which isn't bootable with the G4), the clone should be bootable from the external drive.
Like Tom indicated, OS X already has automatic defrag abilities built in. Moreover, when one moves files from one volume to another one, the moved files are defragmented in the process (as long as sufficient free space is available on the destination drive). Thus, a basic defrag of the entire hard disk volume occurs when CCC, Disk Utility's Restore option, or SuperDuper! is used to clone the volume to an empty volume. I regularly clone for backup and find that this takes care of even huge video files that can sometimes overwhelm OS X's built-in defragmenting after a lot of editing. I have a defrag utility as part of Prosoft's Drive Genius, but have never once needed it. Moreover, I'm somewhat leery of running such a utility without having first backed up, which really negates it's potential usefulness, seeing that the backup cloning effectively does this in the first place.
Personally, having an external FW drive, I'd clone the current system to the external (or to a partition there), boot to it and test to insure that all went well, and then install Tiger fresh on the internal drive, using the Migration Assistant to transfer my user data and applications to the new OS. I'd then update my applications on the Tiger volume (and insure Tiger compatibility) and then test the new Tiger volume by running from it for at least a week or more before deciding to erase the old 10.2 volume. When satisfied that everything is stable, I'd then clone the Tiger volume to the other drive for backup.

  • Conversions between character sets when using exp and imp utilities

I use EE8ISO8859P2 character set on my server,
when exporting database with NLS_LANG not set
then conversion should be done between
EE8ISO8859P2 and US7ASCII charsets, so some
characters not present in US7ASCII should not be
    successfully converted.
But when I import such a dump, all characters not
present in US7ASCII charset are imported to the database.
I thought that some characters should be lost when
doing such a conversions, can someone tell me why is it not so?

Not exactly. If the import is done with the same DB character set, then no matter how it has been exported. Conversion (corruption) may happen if the destination DB has a different character set. See this example :
