When attempting to open a PDF file in Reader sometimes get the "Expected a dict object" error message.

Did you ever find the answer to this problem?? I am having the same problem with
my Acrobat 9 Pro document. When trying to insert a page to the document (300 pages long) I get the error message "expected a dict object
Would appreciate any tips you can give me.

With the latest versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader XI and Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7 Professional 32-bit Service Pack1, we are having issues trying to open a machine manual PDF within the web browser. The web page is hosted locally with an Apache web server. Once we click link to the manual, the PDF attempts to download, but then we are prompted with an Adobe Reader "Expected a dict object. http: // localhost/Help/ait.pdf" information dialog box. The PDF then fails to load. Sometimes however it will load successfully without any issues. The PDF is roughly 34MB in size.
We have tried other web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and Opera) and they do not appear to have this issue. What could be causing this problem? Does anyone have a solution for this? Please let us know.

Tried to download the Photoshop Elements 13 manual pdf form. Stops. Says expects a "dict object".

you can't download the pdf manual for photoshop 13 elements. Goes about 2.4 mb in and then has error. Expects a "dict object". Can t cut and copy or paste the message, adobe program wont let me do that in the pdf download. Can you let adobe know please so I can get the manual and they can fix their download?? thanks. ken.

Which operating system and internet browser are you using?
Did you try right clicking on the pse 13 pdf and using Save Link As?
The photoshop elements 13 pdf from this page seems to download fine here on windows 7 with firefox.

Reader XI IE 8 plugin displays "Expected a dict object" when opening a FrameMaker 9.0.4 PDF

We have PDF manuals that are created with FrameMaker 9.0.4. Since we updated Adobe Reader to version XI users have been receiving "Expected a dict object" when opening the PDF manual using PDF Reader XI plugin in IE 8. The manual does open if we disable the plugin. The PDF manual is located at: http://www.otda.ny.gov/resources/fiscal-reference/FRM-3.pdf
Is this a problem with the plugin or with FrameMaker? We already tried Repairing the Adobe Reader Installation and there are no updates for FrameMaker

This message usually relates to uploading your PDF file as ascii or text, because, although it may look like a text file, it is really binary.
Select "binary" before uploading and it should work perfectly

Causes for the "Expected an array object" error

I'm using Acrobat Pro X and am getting the "Expected an array object" error recently when inserting a PDF that was created by inserting a smaller collection of other PDF documents, if that makes sense.
Oddly, or maybe not, I can build the second level PDF by inserting all of the individual PDFs one at a time. The error only occurs when I try to "build up" the larger document.
My searches come up empty as far as revealing what causes this error.
Anyone know what causes it?

How are you creating the pdf. Your comment about putting a publication together gives us nothing to go on.

TypeError: Object [object Object] Error message on website with parallax scrolling

My website, www.suchudance.org is having some error issues that have never surfaced before.
This is the error message I receive on a webpage that has never had this error before:
" MusejSassert: Error calling selector function: TypeError: Object [object Object] has no method 'on' "
I have parallex scrolling on the "tickets.html" page and that page, all of a sudden is no longer loading until I click on the Ticket menu button.
Does anyone know what is going on?

Hi Vipul,
I am having trouble getting this error. I opened your site and previewed it in the browser, using Chrome, Firefox and Safari. I tried going to the tickets.html page using the url and using the menu on your site but both gave me the same result and no JS assert. Is there something I'm missing? Is your site right now (http://www.suchudance.org/tickets.html) the expected result or are you getting the error on that as well?

Undefined is not an object error message

Hi there.
I'm just new to scripting in illustrator. actually, i'm new to illustrator too!
but i do have a programming background. right now, i'm just trying to familiarize myself with scripting for illustrator files.
i have an svg file that was created by our artist. i've opened that file in illustrator. i've also opened a sample javascript from adobe called "makelineargradient" and i'm trying to run this script against the svg file.
it worked fine the first time. but on subsequent compiles / runs, i'm getting the error message "undefined is not an object"
the line it's failing on is line 1:
if (app.documents.length > 0)
can someone point me in the right direction? I'm using the extendscripts tool to open and run the javascript file.

Be sure that you are targeting Illustrator, and not the Extendscript application (there is a dropdown menu at the top left.). I'll bet that yours is still set to Extendscript (it will default to this when opened.)
Also, you can add the line:
#target illustrator
at the beginning of the code to set Illustrator as the target.

"Expected a number object" error/warning.

Hey Guys, I am using LiveCycle 8 and Adobe Pro 8.
I have an 8 page form that I started in Pro 8, and now I have
tweaked in LiveCycle.
Everything is "almost perfect" for what I want.
Only problem is now I get an error that says,
Expected a number object
Expected a number object
This gives me two errors. Thus, I can't save the document either.
All I need to do to finish is resolve this, and then
Re-Do the Tab Order for it to be complete.
The thing is, it doesn't tell me WHERE
the error is, or otherwise I'd fix it.
I've already gone through the 500+ fields,
and can't figure it out.
It's not a Javascript error either.
Any help on this would be great help.

JavaScript is very lose in type checking, that is, JS does not verify or keep the type the same for an item and JS will change the type of an item form number to string if it looks like that should be done. You can use the "Number(cSting)" constrictor to force an item to a number in JS and might be able to format a number with the "Format(s1, s2)" function in FormCalc.

Mailer object error message "SMTP: invalid from address. SMTP error 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. d5sm35857280yhl.19".

I am trying to send an email from Lookout V6.6 using the Mailer object. I have an email address setup through GMAIL and have verified it works. Also, Lookout Mailer object is able to verify GMAIL server. I get the following error message when trying to send the email: "SMTP: invalid from address. SMTP error 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. d5sm35857280yhl.19". Anyone know what is causing this?

Another method is to use a SMTP relayer, we have deployed them in the past.

Loading from web a pdf file comes up with "expecting a dict object"

uploaded a pdf file to a password protected site. Have done this many times and have successfully read and downloaded pdf file from web site. On this occasion file attempts to download for reading then stops with message "Expecting a dict file" This file is successfully openned using "Internet Explorer"?

Updated Solution Center, get cannot create DIHPAiOFaxManger object error message on 'Send a Fax'

The printer is an OfficeJet J4540 All-In-One, running on Vista Home Premium x64. The orginal Solution Center faxed without any problems. I upgraded to new Solution Center and when I click on 'Send A Fax' I get this error message: "cannot create DIHPAiOFaxManger object". My OfficeJet can and does send faxes manually, but I would like to use the Solution Center. Please, help!!!

This might have been a quirk of the installation. So let's try to perform a complete and clean uninstallation and reinstallation. First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it. Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.
Then follow this link to download the full feature software and drivers for the printer:

Install that and let me know the result!
As an additional side note, you should also be able to use Windows Fax and Scan to fax from your PC as well.

Need help with Object error message

Hello, Forum.
In DW CS5 I'm getting an error message, "This page contains object tags that may not work properly in the most recent versions of Internet Explorer. DreamWeaver cannot convert these object tags.". Anytime I previously encountered this message, it ended with, "To correct this problem you can covert these tags to browser safe scripts. Do you want Dreamweaver to convert these tags for you?". Why does DW now say it can't convert the tags, and what can I do?

If I removed the MP from Service Manager, would that drop the tables in the DW and allow me to start again?

Illustrator Error - Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Expected a Dict Object

Hi all,
I am getting a strange error on Illustrator CS4 on my Mac.
Randomly when I open an existing Illustrator file it corrupts with the above error :-(
Once the file becomes corrupt we cannot open it and have to revert to a backup.
I have narrowed it down to files with multiple artboards.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

It may (or may not) be possible to rescue contents if you use the http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50032.html on both the corrupt document and a healthy older version, and instead of step 3 as described compare the coding, especially at the start. You may be able to replace/copy dissimilar code from the healthy document to heal the corrupted one, or to replace/copy similar code from the corrupted one to a copy of the healthy one.
