There are many functional modules in SAP, like SD, MM, PP, FICO, CRM....etc..... you can choose any one of these based on your education and work background.
Get your self certified in that module and you are ready to enter the SAP world.

I haven't seen anything that really qualifies as the definitive guide to this particular certification, and the "free" sample tests I saw offered on the web had wrong answers to a lot of the questions. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from taking the test, but the availability of reliable material makes prepping for this test really tough.
When I took the exam, it touched on many areas of the product:
Core Content Server (profiles, security, admin applets for example)
Site Studio
Digital Asset Manager
Document Capture
Forms Recognition
Imaging
Universal Records Management
Information Rights Management
My experience and advice would be that you have to be aware of all of these areas (and I hope that I didn't miss mentioning any topic areas). You must be really strong in many areas to cover up for those areas of the test where your knowledge is lacking.
The questions are spread far enough around the overall suite where you realistically can't have more than one weak area of knowledge. As I recall. the test was 69 or 70 questions with a minimal passing score of 70%, so you are likely to see an average of about 8 or 9 questions per area mentioned above (more on some, less on others). If you've never dealt with Rights Management or Forms Recognition for example, you're likely to miss those questions, making your max score at best 56 out of 70, or 80% assuming you miss nothing else. That leaves you about 7 misses across the rest of the potential test material and still get a passing score.
The test is really designed for practitioners who have considerable experience in implementing the solution stack, as some of the questions that I saw could only be answered by someone who has done this for a while. I don't see this test as one where you can easily bluff your way through, or get enough reminders/hints from other questions to get through successfully, since the broad scope of the material that you must cover really doesn't lend itself to such hinting help.
I don't intend to sound negative on the test at all, but I want to set realistic expectations based on me actually taking the test.

Career advice for SAP Certification

Hi Experts,
I've SAP domain experience of about 6 years in MM module and wish to enroll for SAP Certification course. Can I know which of these institutes (Genovate or Delphi Computech) from Pune - India are best from both training as well as placement point of view. Interested in Faculty training program.
Also need to know if my academic qualification will hamper my placements after course completion as I'm Diploma Holder in Electrical Engg.

Yes, if you are planning to install new system(BW 7.3). No need for migration or use oracle DB.
BW 7.3 on HANA, where HANA will work as DB for your BW 7.3.

I am a third year undergraduate software systems engineering student (Canada) looking forward to get SAP certification before i graduate from University.

Types of Questions:
I Multiple options with only one answer correct they would be phrased as Please choose the correct answer
II Multiple options with options given as statements related to the original problem situation / scenario and the answers have to be marked in the form of True or False for each option ( dont know about the marking scheme for this)
Important remarks
There is no Negative Marking so you may take guesses for the ones you are not sure of.
One can browse to any question at any point during the test and can also mark it for review in case he / she wants to come back to it later.
In case you only look at a question and dont mark or attempt it, it will be displayed with an eye shaped icon with the question number so that you may come to it later.
The above maybe obvious for people who have attempted SAP certification exams before.
All the questions have 5 options, since the following questions have been placed on the basis of recall after the exam, they may differ in language and options, but they would surely give an idea of the pattern and the type.
A Total of 80 Questions to be attempted in 180 minutes time is more than enough to do all the questions twice over provided you know the answers!!! 
Distribution of Questions
The distribution into different sections like BPM / Mapping / Adapters / Design and configuration / Runtime and Overview might be different for different people in terms of the number of questions coming into each section.
The cut off for the XI exam has been revised to 60 or 65 (not sure) from the earlier 70%.

If you are in India, please contact SAP Education. They have separate evaluation process, without training you cannot attend unless you have trained with SAP / Authorised Training Center.
Please go through the blogs in Certification / Career space.

Here for each certification exam, you can see the syllabus.
You only need to study what is required for that exam, not the whole SAP basis.

I am planning to change my Career path from IT Analyst to SAP IS RETAIL Consultant. I am Currently working in retail company (UK Retailer) from last 4 years as IT Analyst involved in Mapping business requirements and Implementing new systems etc.
I don't have any experience in SAP, I am planning to join Certification course for SD+ISRETAIL and I Checked with one of SAP Authorized training Center and got overview of IS RETAIL.
Retail industry is booming accross the world (including India) i think there will be enough opportunities for SAP IS Retail Consultants(this is one of the reason for changing Career path) . I believe experience i have gained in retail domain from last four years will be useful in implementing SAP IS Retail to suit client requirements.
I would request your guidence and suggestion on this.

I feel you have made a genuine plan. As you have good industry knowledge you should be able to grasp the concepts easily. You experience in Retail industry can help you in your job search.
In india you can target cos like IBM, Accenture which have big SAP Teams.
I feel you should go for IS Retail certification, not sure why you wanna do SD.

Query on appearing for SAP Certification

I'm looking to know how do I appear for basis certification. I have been working for > 4 years and have been through the the course material for TADM 10/12. Please let me know if there is anything more that should be referred ?
The only way of applying for cert as known to me in India, is through sapteched or through training institute like siemens. Is there any other way for me to apply for certification & what approximate cost could it incurr ?

I am assuming you intend to appear for the exam in India. Earlier, you required your employer to sponsor your exam. You could not directly appear for the exam without first appearing for the certification course. But things could have changed now. You can also call SAP Education India at (91) 80 4136 5720 or email them.

Certificate for SAP Certification

I appeard for SAP FI certification on Dec 30, 2010 in Bangalore and passed it. I've not received any certificate from SAP yet. I have sent 7-8 emails to the local contact over last week and not even a single one has been responded. Not sure whom to contact to get a status update on certificate.
Not responding to emails doesn't reflect good on the company's part.
