Experience with Apple Store in the Woodlands, TX.

The staff were very friendly. I had two week 37 units I had purchased at another location and over the last two days they exchanged both of them for me and went out of their way to hold a week 38 model.
I did have to register to see an "Apple Genius", but after seeing the problem he did not argue and agreed the blacks look reflective. We now have two week 38 models and they both look great and pass the contrast, gamma and white saturation test that you see failing here:
http://jdeats762.bravehost.com/iBadScreen.htm
I was not charged a restocking fee on either unit. I was also told by the staff that they had heard about problem from other stores, but did not elaborate. He said the rumor is "Apple is probably going to make an announcement and have us pull the week 37 units so they can't be sold". He didn't elaborate beyond that.
But buyer beware until that announcement and order comes from Apple Corporate, the Apple stores are still going to sell week 37 units, this isn't the Apple Store's fault, it's just the way they have to do business, even the managers hands are tied until Apple's corporate office puts out a statement and issues a command.
My experience with Woodlands, TX store was excellent.

The Walnut Creek store does at least some in-house repairs. (I had the top case replaced there once.)

  • Are Apple Stores in the US filled with noise?

I have a MacBook that has serious problems with its fan. The thing is always spinning and makes a whiney, grindy noise.
I've taken this machine in to the Apple Store in Tokyo two times to demonstrate the problem. But the "Geniuses" can never heard the fan noise.
Why not? Because the store has LOUD MUSIC constantly blazing from speakers mounted in every corner of the store. This is a tactic that I guess Apple believes makes the shopping experience exciting, but to me its annoying and makes it nearly impossible to get issues resolved with the "Geniuses." Half the time, you have to nearly shout for them to hear what you're saying. It's like trying to conduct business in a rock 'n' roll nightclub.
Anyway, I'll be traveling to the States soon, and I'm wondering if they blare music in the Apple Stores in the States, too. If not, Or, is this just a Tokyo thing?
    Thanks,
    GeeKay

Yes it is in the U.S. too. I would ask them if they have a quiet room in the back. If not, suggest to their manager that they get a soundproof room because some things must be listened to in a quiet room to detect such as fans, scratching hard drive and optical disc platters, stuck eject mechanisms, and the famous POST startup test (on Intel Macs, 1999 to 2005 Macs, pre 1999 Macs) and power supplies which have shorts usually only emit sounds that can be heard in a quiet room. Sometimes they are too noisy to detect the startup chime, which can be a real problem when resetting the PRAM, as you don't want the PRAM reset to go through too many startup chimes.
Edit: another observation is that it is so noisy, if you even walk into a quiet room after being in the store, it takes a few minutes before your ears adjust and are able to listen to ambient noises again.

I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work.
^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

my mac is running slow, the spinning beach ball constantly appears. it seems that when i am in the apple store with fast wifi its a bit better. genius at the apple store checked the hard drive, it's all fine. what can it be? can it be a software issue with the wifi?
also i noted that it has only been doing this since quite recently, before it was fine
    please help!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Apple store changed the motherboard of my MacBookPro. Have now problems with many Itunes songs.

Got problems with my MacbookPro. The Apple store changed the motherboard. Have now problems with many songs in my Itunes library. Do not have access anymore because Itunes says that I am using more than 5 computers which is not true. How to resolve?

iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420 - and another helpful post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17828050
You will have to deauthorize all and then reauthorize specific computers.  Changing your motherboard has apparently made iTunes think you have a different machine.

  • My iPad was stolen before delivery and i got problem with Apple Store

    So this my problem
i'm living in France and i order a lot of things at the French Apple Store online. So when UPS ship the packages, the iPad box was empty. I call immediately Apple store customers sercice. And they treat me like a jerk, i spoke to many differents persons, and each time nothings is done for a refund or an iPad replacement. UPS do not want to admit that somebody stole my iPad, Apple are doing nothing for me, and i can't speak to a supervisor to accelerate my case.
What can i do with Apple Store custommers service in this particular case, can somebody help me to find the good person that i can talk and if he can help me.
    Thank you

If the cardboard box that had your address on it was empty it is possible Customs forgot to put it back in the box.
If the box that said iPad with the photograph of the iPad on its cover is empty, but is shrinkwrapped, it is likely an error at the manufacturing plant.
If you were not at home when the package shipped, anyone could have walked with it off off the porch, re-taped the box, and UPS did what FedEx never does with Apple products in the U.S. and that's leave a box from Apple without a signature allowing them to drop off the box unattended. Unless of course you gave them a signature release, in which case, you can't trust your neighborhood anymore for doing a signature release.
If you were present at the time UPS delivered, and they delivered you a closed box, and you found no iPad box in there, it is possible it either got left at Customs, or Apple didn't ship the box right.
Regardless, UPS in the U.S. always asks the shipper to make shipping claims, which means you need to be persistent about asking for a manager. I don't know what it is like in France, but in all likelihood it is similar.
This is a user to user forum, so we can only give you our experience.
Sorry to hear about your loss.

  • Very unhappy experience with iTunes Store

Hi I'm writing this piece to share my unpleasant experience with Apple.
Before this event, I'm a keen supporter of apple products especially its iTunes Store. Instead of buying music album CDs from music publishing companies, I prefer to purchase songs from iTunes Store. My reason is if my songs are bought from the iTunes Store, they will be in the Apple's cloud. So whenever any of my devices does not have a song, I can easily download it from the cloud.  I can also play the song from the cloud via Apple TV without the hassle of turning on other devices like ipad, iPhone or my computer.  It was a wonderful concept and a great experience.
However, all these good experience crushed to ground zero after this event happened.  I purchased a music album from iTunes Store a year plus ago.  Recently, I found this album was not available for me anymore. I could not download the songs in the album from iTunes Store. Finding this a bit strange, I went to check the iTunes Store. I found that the music album was still available but the cover was slightly different from the one that I had purchased before. However, the album's title, the songs, the names of the songs and the artist are still the same in this album. But this album was not under 'Purchased' in my account anymore.
I called the Apple support. They said the current one in iTunes Store was a 'modified' album. The 'old' album that I purchased was not available anymore. Although the songs are the same, there was no way I could access the 'old' album which I had purchased. If I wanted to access the songs again, I had to purchase this 'modified' album again!  They could not tell me the reasons why a 'modified' album had replaced an 'old' album despite the songs, the album's title and the artist are the same. They said I should be responsible to back up the soft copy of the songs in my computer when I purchased the songs last time.  Next, they gave me links that point to the legal policies of iTunes Store. The support also said I could not escalate this issue any further. He said there was no one to escalate after him.
After this event, I think through and come up with my own conclusion.  There is no more attraction  for me in buying a music album from iTunes Store over buying a music album cd. If I buy from iTunes Store, I need to store the soft copy in my local computer. If I buy a music album CD, I also need to rip it and save a soft copy too. Worse is, although I purchase it in iTunes Store, my access to it in iTunes Store may be taken away any time. However if I buy a music album cd, assuming I have not done anything illegal with the songs, I don't think, on any day, a music publishing company will knock on my door and ask me to return the CD back with no refund.
In that case, buying a CD has more advantages. I can rip the songs and store them in my devices for my own enjoyment. I have the lyrics of the songs which most albums from iTunes Store don't have. I have nice physically wonderful music covers that i can ask the artists to autograph on them.  Some CDs also have DVDs attached. And one last thing, music companies will not take back my CDs!
I'm not sure any Apple management staff will ever read this but that is ok. I just hope my friends are aware of this.
One last last thing, I think this is:
"A small back leap for me but a big back leap for cloud business."
An ex fan of iTunes Store
    14 May 2014

There has never been any guarantee that anything will be available in the future.
You should never rely on this for your backup.  You should always keep everything on your computer and always back up your computer.
You seem to be over reacting a bit.

What is a quick alternative to launching an enterprise DPS app if Apple Store rejects the App? We are under a major deadline and can't wait for Apple to approve. We want to host the app elsewhere. How do we host our DPS app on our client's website? Thanks.

Unless I misunderstand the question, you can't do what you're asking to do. Apple doesn't allow you to bypass their store and host public apps on a website. The exception is an enterprise app, which requires an Enterprise account with both Apple and Adobe. This type of enterprise app can be distributed only within the company. If that's what you want to do, you can learn more here:
Digital Publishing Suite Help | Creating viewer apps for private distribution
Distributing enterprise iOS viewer applications with Digital Publishing Suite | Adobe Developer Connection
Another option is to add the development app to several devices and use those for your demo.
