Experiences Using Kingston Ram

Hi,
Anyone her using this Kingston HyperX DIMM Kit 1024MB PC3200 DDR CL2-2-2-6-1T KHX3200K2/1G?
Please post your experiences in here, I'm not able to get pass POST with them.
May other voltages/timings help?
Thank you in advance.

  • Has anyone used this RAM in there Mac??

    Greetings
have just found some RAM that is Mac compatible
Corsair 1Gb DDR2-667 SoDimm for Apple Mac
and am wondering if anyone is/has used it?? Being Corsair I understand this ram to be of very very good quality but have only ever been using Kingston RAM as recommended from Renaissance (New Zealand Supplier for Apple).
Your thoughts and answer will be much appreciated
    Thanks

Yes I added the same 1GB Corsair back in May 2006 to the stock 512MB. Replace the 512MB with the 1GB then put the 512MB in the other slot. Slide them in untill you feel then stop, then give them a hard shove to seat them into there slots. After you have seated both modules close the ejector clips and replace the cover.

That extra 1GB will make a big difference, you'll love it.

  • Qosmio G50/402 - How to use 8GB RAM?

I have Qosmio G50/402 with 8GB RAM installed although the useable is only 4GB.
Is there any way to use the 8GB?

    Hello
    This can have different reasons.
Firstly you have to check if your notebook supports 8GB RAM. Check the specifications of your chipset but as far as I know Qosmio G50 should support 8GB RAM.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know what OS you have. To use full 8GB RAM you have to use a 64bit OS.
And what type of modules you are using exactly? In worst case the new module isnt compatible with your notebook. Normally the best option is using two identical modules from one manufacture, e. g. Kingston. I have very good experience with these RAM modules for notebooks so I can really recommend it.

Once it's poped, you can't get rid of it, it gives you an 'Ok' option, but if you press it, it just loads again, and you can't press the 'x' or it just comes back.
In order to get Skype working again I have to 'End Process' in task manager (Where I see it using 1GB Ram), and then re-start skype and it's fine.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Any chance of allowing FCPX to use more RAM?

    Hi everyone!
Is there a chance of allowing Final Cut Pro X to use more RAM? It seems to use about 10-20% of the 16 GB of my MacBook Pro: even after quitting all the other apps. The speed result on rendering, transcoding and exporting is quite slow. And the activity monitor shows that the mac using very little of its resources, as shown below, during the process of exporting a 30' movie:
    Many thanks in advance!

OK, the processes you specifically mention are also heavy GPU processes, which Activity Monitor doesn't report.  A MacBook Pro does not have the most powerful GPU around, either.
And, the codec you're exporting to will matter a great deal, as mentioned.  Long-GOP will take much, much longer than all I-Frame codecs.
As for Handbrake, it only uses the CPU, so you will see at least one core (100%) of your multicore CPU in use.  FCPX and Motion use the GPU, which reduces useage of the slower CPU.

  • Kingston RAM OK rather than Apple approved?

I'm in Ottawa and I've been quoted by a shop that claims to be an Apple reseller who supplies Kingston RAM cheaper than the authorised Apple reseller. The price difference is significant.
I would be happier using the Apple authorised but am tempted by the Kingston product.
What does anyone think about inserting the Kingston RAM.
I have an ibook 933MHZ and want an extra 512 MB
    Thank you all

I have 1GB of Kingston RAM in my iBook. As long as they'll guarantee compatibility buy it.

  • Kingston RAM and MacBook / MacBook Pro?

    Hello,
I am finally going to be buying my MacBook Pro C2D in the next couple of days and have a question on Kingston RAM.
I am interested in the 2.16 model and loading it up with 2GB of RAM. When I went to the Apple boutique here in Canada, I was told that if I order my computer from the Apple site with Apple RAM it will take 1 month to receive!!!! Is this true? They told me they could get the model as advertised on the site (2.16 Ghz, 1 GB RAM and 120 hard disk) and put in Kingston RAM instead.
They said that Kingston RAM is supported by Apple and will greatly cut down the wait time and I will end up having my computer in a couple of days instead of a month. Is this a sales pitch they are pulling on me? Does it really take a month for a C2D with 2 GB of RAM (in the base model)? If I use any other kind of RAM am I voiding my warranty? The price they are quoting me is not really that much cheaper than Apple's so I don't know what the big deal is unless there is something I am missing here.
I am opting to get the lower model with more RAM instead of the 2.33 model with 2 GB since I don't think I will be using the 256 video card and I can save 400$ in the process. I love the 15" screen which is my main issue for wanting a MB Pro over the MB. I know the MB would be fine for me, but not the 13" screen. I plan on keeping my system for a good 4-5 years and I think the 13" screen will not meet my needs.
Any help you could give would be MOST helpful as I need to be purchasing my MB Pro by the end of the week. I will be starting teacher's college very shortly and need to get my system as quickly as possible.
As usual these forums are a GREAT resource! Thanks much for any help you could pass on!
    Cheers,
    Mark

It will not take any longer to get if you order it from Apple. It won't void your warranty installing RAM yourself either. I ordered my MBP from Apple, got it in about a week and installed an extra 1G of Apple-certified RAM from here. It's been working fantastic.

Could you please tell me if KVR400X64C25/512 Kingston ram are ok for a MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R mainboard?

One stick in slot 1 seems to work but using both sticks in 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 just results in a hang with dleds indicating 'early chipset initialization'.
Can I ask what slots you're running and did you have to fiddle with timings, volts etc to achieve DDR400?
According to the Manual(Chapter 2 - Page 8) for DDR400 You would want to try Slots 1 & 3 for this ram, If It's Double Sided, If It's Single Sided ram then slots 2 & 4 should get You DDR400. But since You've tried that, Then You have double sided dimms and need some single sided ram dimms, As according to the manual there is no way to run 2 double sided sticks at DDR400 in those slots, Since You would need 2 Single Sided or 1 Double Sided Dimm to run at DDR400 in either Slot 1 and/or Slot 2.

  • Upgrade eMAc using Kingston 1GB PC3200 400Mhz

    Hello guys
Just want to get some clarifications. Is it possible for me to upgrade my eMac G4 1.25Ghz using kingston 1GB PC3200 400Mhz memory. i have two stick in my collection after upgrading my office pc with higher one.
    thanks

I should probably clarify the "high-density" issue. High-density RAM is common in peecees and pack more RAM into fewer components. Example: a high-density RAM module may have only eight black chips; low-density would have 16 for a module of the same capacity.
When certain high-density RAM modules are installed in a Mac requiring low-density RAM, it shows up as exactly half its rated capacity.
So that's why it's the RAM density and not its speed )PC3200) that is at play in your situation.

  • Can i use 533 ram ??

can i use 533 ram with my board :  msi 865pe pls ??????????

Most suitable PSUs for any system will be like Antec TruePower 480w, Enermax Noisetakers 470w, Enermax 465watts, PowerPC 550watts, OCZ 550watts etc.
Like I said, 533MHz RAMs are meant for o/c'ing so there'll be no official statement that it'll be 100% supported as the highest stable for a FSB 800MHz CPU is DDR 400MHz RAMs which are reconisged by Intel and anything higher than that is considered for o/c'ing purposes.
If you die die wants to buy the DDR 533s, I recommend Kingston or Geil Golden Dragon series. You may want to check out what other users are using for their RAMs vs Mobos.

    Hi,
For this problem, in my opinion, it would be better to make troubleshooting with Windows startup diagnosis tool, you can refer to the contents of the link below for more details:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/10128.tools-for-troubleshooting-slow-boots-and-slow-logons-sbsl.aspx
Since you said it work fine in Safe Mode, you can also check is there any program start up with system, then try to disable them for test if Windows works fine.

  • Can I use kingston ddr 333 along with Kingmax ddr 333

Ok I wanted to add some more memory to my system I have 2 x sticks of 256 ddr 333 Kingmax right now. I would like to add some more ram but I cant seem to find Kingmax memory online I can find a stick of 256 but not a 512 I see alot of Kingston 512 stick and 1 gig can I use Kingston along with Kingmax ram? I dont want to spend too much on this upgrade since I will be upgrading my Mobo and Cpu in a few months and this memory would be too slow for a new system.

lol!  Its not 1994 anymore.  Where have you been?  Mixing DRAM speeds, capacities, and timings has not been a significant issue for years now.  Memory controllers are designed[/i] to accomodate separate timing and speeds for each memory bank.

The TwinBank architecture is designed to provide a high degree of flexibility, scalability and upgradeability.  Its technical benefits include:
    • Both 64-bit and 128-bit operations.  In 64-bit mode, the DIMM can be located on either MC1 or
    MC2.  In 128-bit mode, both MC1 (DIMM0) and MC2 (DIMM1/DIMM2) are utilized.
    • Both controllers are functionally identical with all control and timing parameters independently programmable.  This allows asymmetric DIMMs with different memory organization, size, and speed to be used on MC1 and MC2 and still provide the full performance benefits of the 128-bit memory system.
    • Support for odd total memory size; eg. 64MB + 128MB = 192MB, while still taking advantage of

Both of the memory controllers on DualDDR are functionally identical with all control and timing parameters independently programmable.  This flexibility allows the users to populate up to three asymmetric DIMMs in any organization, size and speed.  DualDDR simply adjust to the lowest common density that will facilitate 128-bit bandwidth, allowing a wide variety of different DIMM combinations to operate reliably regardless of the individual density and latency characteristics.

Do you think memory controllers have become less[/i] sophisticated since the days of VIA VP3 Socket 7 (which, BTW, also supported arbitrary DRAM mixing)?
The ability to run different speeds, sizes, and densities of DRAM isn't just an accidental byproduct of advancing memory controller technology.  It is intentionally being built-in[/i] to the design to accomplish this.

  • 648 Max - Identifying but not using both RAM modules

    Hi!
I'm totally new here, just stumbled across this forum while googling for a solution to my problem, so please excuse my lack of proper terminology if that should occur.
I have the following system (data obtained from Everest 2.20 and own brain):
P4 2,80 GHz, no OC, no HT
    2x Crucial PC2700 DDR-DIMM 1024MB 2,5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz
    MSI 648Max (MS-6585)
PowerColor Radeon X1950Pro AGP 256MB GDDR3, no OC
    Thermaltake Toughpower 850W Modular
    Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 160GB IDE
BIOS (this is my weak spot...) Everest says BIOS type AMI, dated 28/1/2003, no info other than that
WinXP Home SP3 + all updates AFAIK
In general, the system is originally ready-built Fujitsu-Siemens system from 2002 (i think), but heavily modified by me (RAM upgrade, HDD upgrade, several GPU and PS upgrades).
My problem is that the computer only occasionally uses both RAMs (i.e. showing 2,00GB RAM in My Computer's properties). More often than not, however, it only shows 1,00GB RAM. AFAIK this problem is pretty recent, and did not occur when the RAM was new and installed by me. I have tried to systematically testing the two different RAM modules separately in each of the three DIMM slots, and the computer booted and ran Windows desktop at idle without problems in all configurations. I therefore dismissed the possibility of both MB and RAM failure, and reinstalled both modules in DIMM 1 & 2, where they have always been located. The computer ran with 2,00GB of RAM for a day, then reverted back to only 1,00GB the next morning. Tried moving the RAM in DIMM 2 to DIMM 3, and the computer ran another day on 2,00GB. However, this morning it was back to 1,00GB again.
Through all this, Everest 2.20 has always detected both RAMs in the correct slots, but have displayed 1024 and 2048MB memory on the System Summary page. Rebooting the computer without dismantling it and fiddling with the modules does apparently not change the usable amount of RAM back to 2,00GB when stuck at 1,00GB.
Anybody know what the issue might be (since none of the components seem to be faulty by themselves) and how to solve it? Please keep in mind that my BIOS skills are shoddy at best (but successfully flashed the BIOS once by help of an official guide, no stability issues after the upgrade), so detailed instructions regarding that might be a bit over my head. The same goes for overclocking or manually adjusting any voltages or freqs, which I've never tried.
    Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Apparently a total power-off reboot (power down, PS power switch off, push and hold power button till lights go out, switch back on, power up) seems to reset the RAM to the correct amount of 2GB. Any clues?

The voltage to the memory might need to be raised one notch.  That adjustment is done in the bios.
You can download the motherboard manual from this link.  http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=3576&type=manual
Section 3 page 27 thru 28 cover the adjustment of the memory voltage.
This is for a retail motherboard.  I do not know if your motherboard has this in its bios.  It is in a section under Frequency/Voltage Control

  • Any use for RAM pulled from stock 24" iMac?

    Greetings!
I am about to configure and order an iMac that my employer, a big university, is buying me as a workstation. They spring for a bottom-of-the-line 20" iMac. I'm going to use my own funds to upgrade to a 24" iMac. I want 4 GB of RAM in it. I can buy first-rate 3rd party RAM for about $50-60 less than Apple's upgrade cost at my university's special ordering and configuration page. This isn't a lot, and reckon using Apple's RAM might help if something goes wrong (I've heard that some problems are blamed on 3rd-party RAM). But upgrading aside from Apple might be more attractive if I could figure out anything to do with the 2x1 GB sticks I would be pulling from the machine. Can anybody suggest a likely use for them? I have a G5 DP 2GB machine from 2005, but I assume this RAM can't be added to that.
Any suggestions for how to use that RAM would be very much appreciated. I am also posting a separate question about upgrading the stock video card to the GEForce model.
    Thanks in advance!

I haven't really answered my initial question: what use can I put the 800 DDR2 SDRAM pulled from the iMac to? If I can find something to do with it, then that changes the price equation further in favor of 3rd party RAM. As it is, for non-generic RAM the savings is about $50. One hears that Apple often blames technical problems on 3rd party RAM. $50 might not be worth it to run that risk. But if the 1 GB chips could go into, say, an old iBook G4 (well, I'm sure that won't work) or some other technology I have around me, then I'd have a reason to have those chips in addition to the ones running the new iMac.
You quite piquantly pointed out that they ought to have some use, but that you have experienced the same dilemma. I'm hoping somebody else might have a bright idea here.
