Experiencing lots of audio stutters / choppy playback

With Adobe Flash Player in Youtube I am experiencing lots of audio stutters / choppy playback.  The problem started happening only recently and seems to be getting worse.  I am running Flash Player 11.2.202.208 in Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP (SP3) with a pentium 4.  I cleared my internet history / cookies.  I did a disk clean up and defrag.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash Player, and also turning off hardware acceleration in Flash Player.  What else can I do?
Thanks.

Hi Daniel,
I think the best approach at this point would be to gather system information and open a new bug report at bugbase.adobe.com.  Could you take a look at the following FAQ and gather the info needed and open a new bug report?  Once opened, please post back here with the bug URL.
How do I troubleshoot and report problems with Flash Player Video?
Thanks,
Chris

  • Stuttering, choppy playback? What gives?

Okay, I just got home with my new G5. I'm stoked. I hook up my external drive with my video clips. Last night I'm happy as a clam and playing with video footage... this morning I'm ****** off and frustrated because now FCP is playing everying choppy.
If I wanted this kind of performance I would have stayed with a Mac Mini.
What the heck? Help please before pack up the G5 and take it back to the store.

Sorry for my frustration showing, but with my post dropping to the second page of the forum I didn't want it getting lost in the shuffle. < </div>
Right. You'll notice all the newbies want answers right now. We're all volunteers. We handle what we can when our jobs and lives permit time to pay attention to the forums. You can often find answers in your manuals faster than we can post options.
The clips in the browser are not rendered. < </div>
You must render them for them to play in the native codec you have chosen for your sequence. iMovie uses DVstream which is not a realtime option in FCP.
I'm still on the learning curve of FCP so I don't know if I'm able to edit a clip in the timeline or how. < </div>
You cannot expect this forum to be a substitute for the 2000 pages of manuals you received with the applications. FCP is really complicated and deep and it takes a few months to get up to speed. That's m-o-n-t-h-s. We were all new to this application at one time or another. You've got a lot to learn and there is no shortcut. Start with the tutorials. They're very well done.
Rendered clips play fine on the Canvas but are still choppy and studder in the Viewer< </div>
Many things can display this symptom and many are only discernable if we can see your monitor. We can't. The most common newbie mistake is having thumbs visible on the sides on the Canvas window. That is, your Canvas viewer is set to be larger than the window in which it is contained. See the manual for how to adjust the size of the window and the playback screen.
My clips are on an external drive with about 97 GB available. < </div>
Good start, at lest we don't have to cover the basic capture scratch information.

  • Audio stutters in playback

    Hello,
After my ibook has been on for a while I get intermittent but fairly consistent stuttering in all audio playback (regardless of app). I'm running 10.2.8 w/classic active but can't seem to narrow it down to a conflict w/any other app. It usually takes some time to occur but once it's there, only a restart will resolve it (until it starts happening again).
I recently switched out my 256mb chip for a 512, but if the ram were the culprit wouldn't it happen right away?
Thanks in advance for any ideas

Thanks for the response and ideas Klaus,
I tried what you suggested but, unfortunately, the problem persisted. I'm fairly certain it's not an issue of inherent speed of my machine or its architecture or the os or version of quicktime. The same machine w/same system, playing the exact same types of mp3 files, has been working without these stutters for a long time, and nothing has changed w/my audio apps or the os. Also, the stuttering occurs on all and any audio app, even ones that I believe don't use quicktime (VLC etc...). This problem started only recently.
My hunch is that it could be a bottleneck of some sort or RAM or cache not letting go of or not flushing unnecessary data, or maybe a conflict w/an another app (though almost none are running when the problem crops up and the ones that are have been in use for a year or so w/out these problems).
So if I take the machine/speed out of the troubleshooting, I'm left to wonder if it could be the new RAM I installed. But, again, the stuttering doesn't happen right away and sometimes takes a day or so of the machine being on to start happening. but once it does, it doesn't go away until a restart.
**If it were faulty RAM, would the problem show up right away?
**Or is it a corrupt preference file somewhere, but, again, wouldn't that cause the problem to show up right away, too?
    Thanks again

  • Stuttering/Choppy Playback of smallish .mov files

Hi all... I have been running QTPro 7.0.3 and before that 7.0.2 and both had severe problems running Quicktime movies off my hard drive without skipping, and stuttering.
These are files that are no more than 500MB and I've got 2GB of Apple RAM in my computer. My processor is a 1.25ghz, but this still shouldn't be happening. Right?
Please help -- it's really annoying!
    -andrew

Same here. I have 3 solutions that work for me:
Use QuickTime Player 6.5.2 app (works fine with QT7.0.3)
    Use MPlayer / ffmpeg
    Use VLC player
My problem is not related to the audio settings, as 44,100 Hz is the only sample rate available in Audio/MIDI setup. It would be nice to have the QTP 7.0.3 Player work, since that's the default which opens when you double-click a movie.

  • Quicktime choppy playback

The Quicktime player works fine with 1080p video in full-screen mode but windowed it's choppy. Perhaps 5 fps for a couple seconds at a time, and 1 frame every three seconds the rest of the time.
CPU usage is 2% user, 4% system
VLC works fine full-screen or windowed.
I tried 32-bit mode. Still no good.
    Any ideas?

    Dear Ozcanuck
We also have a Sony Bloggie and experience problems with playback in iPhoto. I have found however that if you pay the videos through Slideshow in iPhoto they play a lot better without the choppy playback. You can turn off the background music so that you can here all the audio. It is a bit of a fuss but it saves exporting it and using up more memory etc.
I hope this solves your problem to some degree. it is annoying you can't just click play. It seems to be just affecting the Bloggie as my sisters lumix hd videos play fine with and without the Slideshow.

  • More choppy playback issues

None of the previous discussions have provided a solution, even though I followed all of their advice.
    I have a new project, started on CC2014 V8.2.0
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    Macbook Pro I7 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Working on 1920X1080 sequence, *no* effects, absolutely none
footage and project file  on external thunderbolt 2Gb Western Digital HD
After playing the sequence for a few seconds, it starts to 'hang' and 'stutter' and will not play smoothly.
    I have:
clicked "Maximum Render Quality" in sequence settings
unchecked "Composite in Linear Color" (although it keeps checking itself back on)
cleared all the caches, both within Premier, and using "WhatSize" app
    restarted, rebooted, re-everythinged
Still will not play smoothly.  Any suggestions? Besides going back to FCX that is....

    1. two weeks ago I completed a project with footage from the same camera, on the same computer, with the same drivers, and had no problem, so I have trouble believing it's the Nvidia driver.
    2. I did turn off, then on, then off, then on, etc. the GPU acceleration, no effect
    3. Again, the same project I completed two weeks ago was from the same external HD (You're right, 2Tb, sorry) and again no problem.
    4. I upgraded to Yosemite just a couple of weeks after it came out, long enough ago that I can't remember exactly when, but again have completed many projects since without this problem.
    5. I can play the mp4 files on any other program smoothly, VLC, Quicktime, RealPlayer, etc. so it's not the footage.
I went through the forums and tried every suggestion I  found, and it seems like there were indeed a lot of issues with choppy playback, and a lot of suggestions on how to fix it. None of the steps put forward have helped, and according to at least one of the forums I've read, that person was unable to find a workable solution. Starting from scratch seems pointless, since I just started this project fresh a few days ago.
I really feel like in the latest update from Adobe something else got screwed up and I have no choice but to live with it until they decide to acknowledge it and fix it.

  • Audio waveform causing choppy playback

Having issues with nearly all Premiere cc 2014 (8.1) timelines where playback with audio track expanded to show waveform causes bad, choppy playback. As soon as i collapse the audio track playback is perfect. Not very useful when cutting interviews and needing to see waveforms.
Running a late 2013 mac pro 3.5ghz 6 core intel xeon e5 32gb ram all footage stored on a lacie 6tb thunderbolt.
    Any fixes or help appreciated
    Thanks

Everything's on the internal drive - a 320 gig 7200 rpm WD.  Still has ~120 gigs free.  The thing that's really getting me is that when I unplug the USB audio adapter, the video playback is fine.
There is an external drive for TM backups, but I just unplugged that to see if it was part of the issue and it doesn't seem to change anything.

  • Audio and video playback stuttering...sometimes

I'm having issues with audio and video playback stuttering at times in several applications. It's the same kind of skipping or stuttering in each application, whether it's iTunes (version 10) or YouTube or Netflix (Safari). I can also hear it when I'm just adjusting the volume via the keyboard, the "clicks" stutter.
I'm not running anything other than iTunes and Safari at once, the iMac has 2 gbs of RAM, it's running Snow Leopard. It also will work sometimes for a while. I just can't figure out why it will work sometimes and not others. Any ideas about what the cause may be? Quicktime X have anything to do with it?

video playback stuttering at times in several applications.
    Quicktime wouldn't work either.
Until you max out your ram, you are pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place.  In the meantime, make sure you have the latest versions of
    Adobe Flash Player
    Flip4Mac
    VLC Media Player
    Perian
    Movist
I'm noticing that in general it's running extremely slowly now, even with only the browser running.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • Audio Stuttering

We are experienceing a audio stuttering problem on playback. Very annoying.  The ouputs are okay. It is just in the monitoring of audio. Any solutions? Thanks.
P.S. We are on a Mac and using AJA Kona 3 card.

I am experiencing the exact same problem on two brand new toshiba laptops.
Definitely wi-fi related, my problem goes away if I disable wi-fi - But it seems to be much better on some wireless networks than others - I suspected the security encription - I changed to WPA 2 from WPA  and things seemed to get better - but then after a week it went back to being bad again.
Skype, CD, MP3 on the laptop, youtube - all give the problem
Did you have any luck on solving the problem?

  • Choppy playback in fcp x 10.1

Since I updated to FCP X 10.1 I get choppy playback with almost all my clips. From old HDV to h.264 and even Poxy files play with audio drop outs, and mostly choppy. On the drive the files are hosted I get 240 MegaBytes/s. Editing is very unresponsive. Sometimes I have to wait for 10 or more seconds until the playhead is ready.
Seems to me like a bug, as that wasn't the case in Final Cut Pro X 10.0.9.

What you are experiencing is NOT normal.
I would try deleting preferences, and also checking the drive.
    How big is/are your library(es)?
If you imported everything into a big library that may be causing some trouble.
Also: how much RAM, and what does Activity Monitor report about RAM pressure? (don't worry if it appears that there is no free RAM, unless RAM "pressure" is high and/or there is significant swap space).
If I had to bet I'd say a very big library may be to blame. You may need to give a thought on how best to organize things with the new media management model. The solution depends on your workflow, but the ability to have manageable size libraries that you can open and close as needed, and move from one drive to another, together with the easy handling of managed or external media, open up a number of great possibilities.

  • How to fix stuttering song playback?

Over the past week, I began experiencing stuttering song playback in iTunes.  I tried to lower the sound enhancement settings to no avail.  Please help.  System:  XP Home, 32 bit.
Note:  Am using iTunes 10.7 because I had problems with missing tracks and error messages in the most recent version of iTunes.  Haven't had any other problems since the downgrade.

    Hello Ayanna R
Verify that you have done some of the other steps in the article below to resolve issues with audio playback. The only other advice I can give is updating iTunes.

  • ITunes 7.1 choppy playback issue on Leopard

I upgraded to Leopard today and updated my iTunes to 7.1. Unfortunately after doing so, I could not get any song to playback continuously. Some songs would only start after a few seconds or play for a second. Any guesses?
    Thanks,
    Sayaka

I've had choppy playback so much I could puke.
One reason seems to be if memory is filling up. See Activity Monitor and if the green part of memory is going away, that's one reason. Seems the only solution is to reboot as quitting all programs doesn't bring back any green and doesn't solve skipping problems.
Another reason is some other activity. If you're scrolling fast or crunching pixels in Photoshop, that could cause skips in the moment. It shouldn't, but it happens to me, and has been happening for a year or two.
But I think this latest release has some problem. Suddenly there's lots of threads talking about it. ANd I have it skipping with 3gigs of free ram free, and only Safari showing a simple page running on it.
The first song after I reboot, plays ok, but then it stutters, like fifty or a hundred periods of silence per song, scattered around randomly, each 0.1 to 1 second long. All songs finish, if you call that finishing, and they seem to take the correct amount of time to finish.
Maddening. iTunes is my stereo now!! will I have to go back to the old CD player?

  • HD video has choppy playback on timeline

    Equipment:
    New MacPro 2 X 2.93 GHz 6-Core intel Xeon
    12GBs Ram
Nvidia Quadro 4000 2048 MB video card
    Software 10.7.2
Video Card:  Kona 3 with 9.0.3 driver & 9.01 premier plugin
Videodrive:  7200 RPM 2 TB internal (not the system drive)  remaining space about 750 GB
    Adobe CS 5.5 software
I just switched from FCP 7 to CS5.5 including a new computer which I perceive is optimized for CS 5.5.  In playback my audio is choppy and dropping out some of the time, then if I stop and start the payback it will be fine, or sometimes there is no audio.  doesn't seem to be any consistencey in what will happen the next time I start playback.  On the timeline is a 1080i ProRes file I finished in FCP 7, then imported the video & audio file to Premier to make a couple of last minute changes.  Program is 50 minutes long.  I have the sequence setup as Kona 1080i compressed.  I imagine I have missed something very basic here, but don't have a clue what it could be.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thx...Jim Watt

    John,
I don't really think it's applicable in this particular situation.  I have just switched to PP for FCP-7.  All my FCP 7 shows are mastered in ProRes and this last one of course was too and it's the one I had to make a small change in.  I didn't see anything in the post you referred me to that suggests that PP cannot/will not play back proRes material.
At the moment I'm screening DVCPROHD 1080i material and I'm having the same problem with choppy playback/freezes and lost audio in the viewer.  I saw a post that came from Walter Biscardi for audio setup and followed that, which did seem to help a little, but the problem still exists.  This is what i did...
Audio...set preferences in Premier to "built in output" and also set audio mapping to same, set audio hardware to "built in output"  with caches at 1024
set computer preferences audio output to Kona card...
So I think this is some sort of setup that I have missed since I get identical problem with ProRes and DVCPROHD.  Any other sugestions will be most appreciated.  I'll give AJA a call tomorrow if I can't find a fix on the forum.
    thx...jw

  • Premiere choppy playback after update

    Greetings,
I'm having a rather bizarre issue which has just came about recently.
I've been running PPro CC successfully for six months without issue. After the most recent update to 7.2.2 I'm having choppy playback both in the source and program monitors. I'm editing mostly AVCHD from a Panasonic HMC80 camera. The choppy playback occurs regardless of resolution or frame rate. I even tried a standard DV file and that too is playing back not smooth. Changing the playback resolution to 1/2, 1/4 etc.. makes no difference.  Changing from Mercury software to hardware makes no difference. I tried creating a new project as well as clearing cache files, previews, etc.. and still have the problem. As a last effort, I re-installed my OS, and re-installed Creative Cloud and Premiere. The issue is still present. My hardware cannot be the issue as I've been editing successfully before. Nothing has changed except for the Premiere update. I've read elsewhere that others are experiencing the same issue. Any thoughts?
    Windows 7 Home
    Premiere Pro CC 7.2.2
    i7 [email protected]
    8GB RAM
    NVIDIA GT 425M

Im having the same problem. Didnt show up until after the 7.2 update.
Major lag on one specific spot in the timeline, and muting all tracks makes no difference on the lag.
I cleaned my project file, caches, downgraded playback resolution, tried the mercury playback function. Nothing. Now the choppiness seems to bleed into the rest of the project until it is all so slow and unplayable. I'm having a harder time finishing this project as time goes on.

  • Strange "Audio Stutters" in All Exports

    Hello,
What I can only describe as "audio stutters" occur at seemingly random times in my Premiere Pro exports created with Media Encoder. They are very brief but noticeable intrusions that sound like glitches.
All audio sounds perfectly normal in Premiere; there are no problems on the timeline. I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:
    Restarting the computer
    Restarting the software
Cleaning Premiere's cache through the preferences panel
Changing the Renderer to "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" in Media Encoder
Unchecking "Enable Parallel Encoding" in Media Encoder
These "stutters" occur in all exports; I have experimented with different projects stored on different drives, as well as with different formats (ie., H264 and Quicktime) and audio codecs (ie., AAC and MPEG).
The only way I have found to create an export WITHOUT "stutters" is by sending a sequence to Audition, creating a mixdown file, importing this file into Premiere, using it to replace the original audio, and then sending this single-audio-track sequence to Media Encoder.
I would love to be able to export from Premiere without having to run my audio through Audition. Any and all leads are welcome!
For your reference, I am running Premiere Pro CC on Windows 8.1, with a 3.60 GHz processor and 16 GB of RAM. I have 11 GB available for Adobe products. For what it's worth, I know for certain that I did not experience this problem prior to the 7.2 updates.
    Thanks in advance!

Clearing the Cache is best done outside of PP using Windows Explorer.  You can get the location of those files under Edit>Preferences>Media...
(On a side note, this Cache cleaning could use some improvement.  Please add your vote.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1369263?tstart=60)
If that changes nothing, it would be helpful if you could upload a file somewhere for us to hear the issue.
