  • Hi,  I cannot access Finder and get the following message. Can anybody help? The application Finder can't be opened -10810

    Hi,
In the last couple of days I have found that I can't shut down. When trying to open Finder I get the following message... The application Finder can't be opened - 10810.
Everything else seems to be OK. However I do have to sign in to Google Mail every time, where in the past it opened up automatically.  I am a really novice at fixing problems, so any help would be great.

The application Finder can't be opened -10810
"A number of people are having a problem where the Finder will hang or crash, followed by a Finder error message saying "The application Finder.app can't be opened. -10810." The general agreement among affected users seems to be that this is spurred mainly when accessing external drives, but there could be a few other related reasons."

  • The application "Finder" can't be opened. -600

I found tons of forums talking about the -10810 issues but never found one talking about -600
I had recently clean installed mountain lion, soon after that I got this 'the application "finder" can't be opened" issues. Some says it happens after the lateast 10.8.2 update. A forum says the solution is delete the finder prefs file. I did and everything was fine for 2 weeks then it happened again just now. When I search for answers online again, I noticed everyone's discussing the problem -10810, but my macbook pro pop up -600 instead:
The application "Finder" can't be opened.
    -600
So I don't know if the -10810 solution will be the same as -600 issues
I can open folders by double clicking it. However when I click the Finder.app dock icon, it will not switch to Finder, but if I use Command + Tab, it'll switch to Finder.app
Also if I click "open in finder" on the dock's stacks, the above -600 error message pops up, so Finder still works but cannot open from dock actions.
I can forced quit Finder but it cannot be open again from the dock icon, it doesn't solve the issue even if I reboot my Macbook Pro.
Is there any solutions? or I just need to keep deleting the finder's preps everytime this happens?

This happens to me on various apps. Firefox, Calculator, really any app. Randomly. The -600 dialog can not be focused though it is always on top. So I can't click "ok" ... I can't find the process in the terminal to kill it either. Fortunately I can save my work... But the only option I have is to restart the machine. It has to be the most annoying bug I think I've ever seen and nearly renders OS X useless.

  • The Application Finder Can't Be Opened

I have not used my iMac in a week.  Today when I clicked on Finder this message appeared:
"The Application Finder Can't Be Opened - 10810".  Finder version 10.6.8.  The other issue today is all my folders had disappeared from my desktop.  The files are all here, but the folders don't show up.
Anyone have this problem in the past and can provide me with help on how to resolve the problem?

There is already topic going on with this:

  • The application finder can't be opened -1712

    Hello,
I've already search in forum for this problem, however, I couldn't find an answer.
I've tried the option in the terminal typing: /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder &
But could only use finder while terminal was open, and I can't shut down or restart my iMac.
    What can I do?
    Thank you very much.
    Mariana

Force a shutdown by holding down the power button for a few seconds. Then reboot and test.

  • My MacBook Pro's finder application says: The application Finder can't be opened. How do I fix this?

I have tried all the fixes, but it still won't fix finder, is there any other way to do it. The terminal script didn't work either. Please help.
    Thank you.

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
If you can now open the Finder, go to - /Library/Preferences and trash the finder plist file.
Repair permissions - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
the update to 10.6.8 for free?
    Yes.  Use Software Update.
Updates are free.  Upgrades you pay for.

  • Error "The application Finder can't be opened -10810"

    Hi there,
I do not know what's going on at the office this week but our MacBook Pro gives this error when you turn it on. I cannot open the Finder and when I try to restart get stuck and nothing happens, so I force it on the power button. Although I was able to open a folder on the desktop.
I have tried this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4315534?start=0&tstart=0 but did not work.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Hi,
try: "/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder &" in Terminal to start the Finder manually.

  • Am getting code the application finder can't be opened-10810

Can someone be so kind as to tell me what this means and how I might solve the problem. Thank you in advance

Thank you so much. Fixed the problem.

  • The application finder can't be opened -10810

    how to fix "

Try a restart in safe mode. If Finder works there, start again normally and see if it is fixed. If not, run Console.app and see if any helpful error messages are being posted.
Have you added any 3-rd party software recently?

  • Every time I click on the finder symbol it says application finder can not be opened

I can not use my finder icon. every time i click on it it pops up (The application finder can not be opened)

Post the full text of the message, including the error code, if any.
Launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Enter the application name in the “Filter” text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any -- the text, please, not a screenshot
Then, still in the Console window, look under "User Diagnostic Reports" for crash logs related to the application. Select the most recent one and post the contents -- again, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

  • Error -10810 . the application Finder could not be opened

    Hello
I recently (about 2 days ago) updated my early 2008 Mac Pro through the standard software update and since doing so my computer has begun acting like it wants to crawl into a hole and die.
There are a number of issues I have noticed. After using the computer for maybe 10-15 minutes I am no longer able to select any applications from my dock and when trying to access the finder it becomes unresponsive. I can then no longer open any programs and if I am lucky I might be able to close whatever curnent program I am using. Sometimes when I try to open a finder window I get the error message -10810 'The application Finder could not be opened'
for a while I could not empty my trash as well although that now seems to have passed.
image icons for some programs in my dock have vanished but when i hover over the space where the iconused to be the program seems to still be there.
I have no idea when my comptuer might freeze. sometimes it's within 10 minutes and other times it is within 1 minute of starting. It's so bad that since updating my mac 2 days ago I have not been able to shutdown the computer properly and have to hold the power button to turn off.
I have tried doing a disk utility verify and it does not seem to find anything wrong with my hard drive.
can anyone help. It's a pain lugging this thing to my nearest Mac store as I don't have a car.
    I am using OSX 10.6.8
    thanks

10.6.8 means you don't have a Recovery Mode and all the more reason to use CCC religiously to have bootable backups.
CCC can verify the file integrity of every file
It is harder to verify the integrity of every disk block or sector
10.6.8 does not run on PowerMac and Mac Pro is not one of those anyway (the POWER part is IBM or MOTO/Freescale G-series of computers, Mac Pro is "Intel Xeon Inside")
Overdue to a new boot drive. Never apply updates w/o a clone. Updates have gotten better. Lion or ML would provide more security, drops support for PowerPC and Rosetta though if you have to use older programs.
2008 uses FBDIMMs which even with their ECC can have problems (new FBDIMMs are cheaper, $60 4x2GB, better, run cooler, all of which helps). Garbage in / Garbage Out and same somewhat goes for disk drives too.
A good choice today is a SSD of 120-250GB for system ($90-170) and 1-2TB drive for media and data ($90-160)
And don't rule out your graphic card, still using the OEM 2600xt? 8800GT? good time and reason to upgrade.
Need a newer but not newest? OWC has 2009 4,1 starting at $880 used which are less trouble and handle Mountain Lion better. Yet to see what the requirements will likely be for 10.9 when it comes out later.

  • Error message "the application APPLICATION_NAME can't be opened. -10810"

All of a sudden I started getting the error message "the application APPLICATION_NAME can't be opened. -10810" whenever I attempt to open an application. Sometimes all of the applications will work, but then all of a sudden one or two applications will turn unresponsive and I will get the above message whenever I attempt to open any application. Does anyone know what this error might be, and how I might go about fixing it?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Application Finder can not be opened

Last night I went to my Mac Pro running 10.6.8 and discovered all of the icons on my Desktop have disappeared. When I clicked the Finder in the Dashboard, I get "Application Finder can not be opened -10810". The menu bar at the top of the screen only appears when I have an application like Safari running. I have run Disk Utility and Repair permissions and they say everything is fine. Don't want to just flounder around.

Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.
