Expired acsm file

Starting Friday, when attempting to download books from my local public library, I started receiving an Overdrive error message stating, "Expired ACSM file. Please refresh the web page you downloaded this title from and try again. (error code 1069)."
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 and have not had a problem like this before.
I've searched the web and have done the following:
Double-checked my time zone, time and date on my device;
Uinstalled and reinstalled Overdrive; and
Deactivated and reactived my Adobe ID.
None of these have worked. Any idea what to do? Thanks in advance.

I've seen several messages about problems like this with library downloads
in the past two weeks.  I'm beginning to suspect that Overdrive issued an
update to their software that libraries are installing now.
IF - and I mean 'if' - your time settings on your computer are correct, AND
they have not changed since you tried to download your ebook from the
library, THEN something changed on the library's end of things (notice that
the syntax is the same as a programmer would use).  Since you're getting an
Overdrive error message, there's nothing that you can do with ADE to 'fix'
the 'problem'.  I'd go back to the library technical support and talk with
them.
Hope this helps!

  • How can I open an acsm file in ADE?

I am trying to write instructions for someone new to e-readers. Here is the issue.
We downloaded e-books from the Ottawa Public Library. The file offered was an acsm file. We saved it to the desktop. When we opened ADE and used the "add to library" function, it only looks for epub files. We can navigate to the file in explorer and click on it, then ADE opens the file and uses it to create an epub file, which it adds to the library.
My question is: Is there any way to avoid using explorer to open the acsm file? I would have thought that ADE would allow you to point to the acsm file and open it.
    Tks

The .ascm file format is a standard that was agreed upon by the industry
some ten or more years ago, and it's used by most, if not all, of the
epublication programs that are in use now.  That includes the Overdrive
software that libraries stateside use most of the time.  If you're having
this issue with more than one library, I'd check out one other area before
I give up.  If you have Windows 7 as your operating system, some of its
security settings can prevent the library software from activating ADE on
your computer.  I'm an XP person, so I can't pinpoint which ones to look
at, but there are others reading the blog that may be able to help you.
The library's technical support people may be able to help also.
You're incorrect on expecting ADE to find the ,ascm file on your computer.
That file should exist only during the transfer, and I believe that there
are some expiration parameters inside the file, so you have only a small
window of time to use it.  Remember that this file type is only a 'pointer'
    - it's not an ebook.
Bottom line?  This issue is quite rare on the forum, and there are
literally thousands of other users who don't have this issue.  It's not the
product.  If you are indeed 'fed up' with the ADE experience, you can look
into other epublication management software: Bluefire Reader, Overdrive
(which most libraries seem to use) and Calibre would be possibilities.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to install acsm file to read books on ipad?

Overdrive cannot open books because acsm file has expired.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with the purpose of this forum. This forum supports Adobe Reader, a PDF reader.

  • Cannot open .acsm files in Digital Editions 1.7.1.1085

i have downloaded an ebook in .acsm file but cannot open it in the latest version of Digital Editions.
.acsm files are correctly associated with Digital Editions on my system (i'm running Visa)
when i try to add items to the library, the only allowed extensions are .pdf and .epub.
    hope someone can help

Thank you for your answer, but I forgot to say that yesterday I also tried to download a file from your free library. Actually, I needed to be sure the problem didn't come
from my pc or from the ebookstore I bought the epub files from, anyway, when trying to open files I got the same window with the same message. I don't think
files on your library are expired ones too.
I selected France as region and  French as language, but I live in a french territory in the South Pacific, may this fact be a problem for reading epub files?
Is there any legal way to convert these urlinkascm files into pdf ones?
    Thanks

  • Problems with .acsm file

    Hello,
I've purchased the book "The Shepherd" with my LG 500 Android device.
The downloaded format is .acsm which I can't open in Aldiko.
I've tried to use Astro, reinstall Aldiko - but both of them didn't help.
I was registered with my Adobe ID all the time in Aldiko.
Please help me open "the Shepherd" book in my mobile device.
    Thanks
    Shlomo
    [email protected]

The .acsm file should look something like what I include below.  Open with any text editor such as Notepad.  Line spacing mught look different
If it doesn't look like that, the .acsm file is corrupt somehow.
When you do get a correct .acsm file and open it somewhere, it will actually download a real DRM encrypted .epub file.
You should be able to transfer the .epub file to another device and read it there as long as [a] the device has a DRM capable epub reader and [b] the device is registered to the same ID as the machine that first opend the .acsm and recovered the .epub.
I think you should be able to open the .acsm file and recover the .epub directly using the Bluefire app on the LG 500.  I don't see why that should work any better than Aldiko, though.
    Good luck

  • Unable to open .acsm files

I've just upgraded to ADE 2.0 and can no longer open .acsm files.  I've tried to associate ADE 2.0 to .acsm files via Windows 7 control panel and 'open with' but when I click ok, nothing happens - no error message but no acceptance of the association

E_ADEPT_REQUEST_EXPIRED could mean that a library loan has expired.
It can also happen if you get times or times-zones wrong.
There are quite a few bugs introduced in V2.0 that were not there in v1.7.2.
If you don't need the new features of V2.0, you might find an install of 1.7.2.
You can have both installed at once.
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • Can't add .ACSM files to ADE, message: "Error! Check activation"

I am using Adobe Digital Editions 4.0.3 with a NOOK Simple Touch, running on a 64-bit 2009 Windows 7 machine. Recently I have been unable to download my library ebooks to my Nook. The electronic library I am using (a derivative of Overdrive, I think) only allows the download of books in the .acsm format. However, recently, I am unable to open the books in ADE. Instead, the only option I have is Adobe Reader. When I select the 'Browse' option and choose ADE and hit 'OK', nothing happens and it doesn't show up as an option. When I try and manually add a file to my ADE library, I get an error message saying 'Error! Check Activation". The only thing I even got halfway working was when I downloaded ADE 1.7.2. I got the .acsm files into the library (still, I had to add them all manually through the ADE interface). However, my NOOK will not open these files, even when using ADE 1.7.2. These are the things I have tried:
-Downloading an e-book (in .acsm format) from the Digital Editions free book selections. Same issue
-downloading and redownloading Adobe Digital Editions 4.0.3 (and removing the other program)
-Downloading and redownloading Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.2 (and removing the other program)
-Deauthorizing ADE (Every time it just says "Unable to erase authorization. Please try again after some time.")
-Adding a book in ADE 1.7.2, getting ADE 4.0.3, transferring the book to the newer software, deleting 1.7.2, and syncing my nook with 4.0.3. Nook says it's not authorized
-Doing a factory reset of my NOOK
-Unblocking the .acsm files by going to Properties>General
-TRYING (and failing) to automatically associate .acsm files with Adobe Digital Editions. Like trying to open a downloaded file with ADE, I get no response when I browse and select i
(SIDE NOTE: my Adobe IDs all match. I know that is also not the issue).
I think the issue here is that something is preventing .acsm files from opening in ADE, and nothing in particular is wrong with my NOOK. My only guess (which is probably misguided) is that Windows can't process my request for ADE to be the program to open .acsm files because it's in the x86 program files folder and not the default Program files folder. I've never heard of that being a problem but I can't think of another reason.
If anyone has any ideas, please give them to me. I am actually typing all this for my grandmother, and she is going crazy without her library books.

On the deactivation issue- I just had a similar issue where I could not deactivate and had to manually deactivate by deleting the activation information from Windows registry. That might help you as well.
Follow the instructions below the disclaimer on this page: Error "E_AUTH_NOT_READY" | Digital Editions
Or if you are more computer savvy, simply close Adobe Digital Editions and then delete this registry key:

  • How do I open a acsm file with the newest version of Adobe Digital Editions

I purchased an ebook that was delivered in the the Adobe .acsm format.  When I downloaded it, I specified that the Adobe Digital Editions as the app to open the file.  ADE launched, loaded my old books but the new book was not loaded. I also tried to load the book from the ADE, but the book shows up as a grayed out item that I cannot select.  I am running the book reader on a Mac running OS X 10.5.8 and have downloaded the lastest version of the ADE.  Has anyone else had a similar problem? Thanks, Yvonne

I'm having the same problem. I have the latest Adobe Reader version, have Mac OS X 10.6.4, and I cannot open any .acsm file-old or new. I've also tried to load the book from the ADE, but the book shows up as a grayed out item that I cannot select. I've tried everything, but to no avail. I don't have any solutions, but wanted to let you know you're not alone in this problem.

  • "E_GOOGLE_DEVICE_LIMIT_REACHED" error when trying to open an .acsm file inside Adobe Digital Editions

    Good evening,
I get the above error message inside ADOBE DIGITAL EDITIONS. I did the following before getting this error:
    a) bought three books from Google Play
    b) Downloaded the three .acsm files reffering to the books from the google play online page and added them to library(in Adobe Digital Editions-ADE for abreviation from now on), without using any authorization.
c)the books opened successfully and with no problem.
d)I decided to make Adobe ID. After I made it I made authorization inside ADE and erased in the path ''C:\Users\SEA\Documents\My Digital Editions'' the three pdf files reffering to the books witch where downloaded after completing the steps b and c.
    e) this was where the problem began... from there on I wasn't able to redownload the books again inside ADE so I can read them without using the browser and when I try to reopen the .acsm files(for downloading the books and making them accessible inside ADE) I get the error message ''Error getting license.License server communication problem: E_GOOGLE_DEVICE_LIMIT_REACHED'' .
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this problem?

  • ACSM file doesn't seem to open (Mac OS 10.5.6) in DE

I downloaded a book and the .acsm file appeared on my desktop, but when I open it using DE, nothing seems to happen. It also seems like nothing happens when I drag the acsm file into the DE window. When I close DE and open it using DE, I get a message from DE saying "One or more downloads are not finished. Do you want to resume pending tasks?" When I click "OK," there is no indication that any download is taking place. Is there a way for me to see pending downloads in DE or another way to avoid this problem and get access to my e-book? Thanks in advance for any/all help!

Here's what I did.  I had the same problem when I tried to download an e-book I purchased.  I was using the Safari web browser, and when I clicked on my download link, it would just download the .acsm file to my computer's Downloads folder, not load the book into Digital Editions.  When I double-clicked on the .acsm file and told it to "Open with Adobe Digital Editions," it wouldn't do anything, either.  The solution that worked for me was to use the Firefox web browser instead.  In Firefox, when I clicked on my download link, it brought up a window that asked if I wanted to Open the file or Save it to my computer.  I chose "Open" and then chose "Other" from the application list, navigated to Adobe Digital Editions, and finally the download began inside Digital Editions.  What a hassle, but it worked.

  • Unable to open .ACSM file in Digital Editions on intel Mac OS X

I am on an intel based Mac running OS X and have recently purchased an eBook for Digital Editions.  I had previously purchased a Digital Editions format eBook and had no problems with it, and am currently able to view it in Digital Editions.  I have downloaded the .ACSM file for my new eBook, however, when I attempt to assign the file to open with Digital Editions, the Digital Editions program window opens, but no activity concerning my new eBook occurs, and all that is listed is my previously purchased eBook.  I have also attempted dragging the .ACSM file directly to the Digital Editions program window, as I have heard that this works on occasion, but still nothing.  I have only ever installed DE version 1.7.1 and have no previous editions that would need to be uninstalled.  Any ideas?

  • Server Error when trying to open .acsm file

    Hello,
I installed Digital Editions v2.0 on a Windows 7 (64bit) computer. I allowed this program to go through firewall.
I have authorized my computer using my AdobeID.
When trying to open the .acsm file to get an epub book which I just bought I get the following error:
"Error Getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_NO_TOKEN".
    Could you please help?
    Thank you.

Hi, I am having the same problem when trying to convert my books from Google Play to epub format on the computer to move to my Nook tablet. Were you able to get any resolution from the content provider? When you say that you erased everything before and after the fulfillmenttoken area, could you be more specific (i.e.did you remove all of the previous content or only the content located in that specific tag?) My html and xml coding is a little rusty so any information you could provide would be extremley helpful. Thank you so much!

  • How do I change the default program that opens .acsm files?

I am borrowing library eBooks to read on my Sony Reader.  I want to ensure that Adobe Digital Editions is the default program to open .acsm files, but am not sure how to do that.  Thanks for the help!

Right (control) click on the .acsm file > select Open With > then select Adobe Digital Editions.
Likewise you can select all of files in a folder with Edit > Select All > then Get Info and set them all to Open with: Adobe Digital Editions or whatever.
