Explicit Lyrics in song info?

A lot of my music is imported from CD, my mum's, my sister's, and my brothers' collections are all on my computer.
Problem is, while my sister is using my machine or in my room while i'm playing music, some songs come on that i don't want to hear. My mum's a bit old fashioned too, and she doesn't like hearing music with a lot of explicit lyrics in them.
Is there a music format that allows you to set explicit lyrics on a song so I can set up parental controls or party shuffle to stop them being played at certain times?

Andrew, don't let this one little thing stop you if you are considering a Macintosh. There are so many great things to offer for this to stop you dead in your tracks.
And, as Otto mentioned, it is really very simple to sort them all out, especially if you are going to be involved in what goes on the wee-ones' iPods. All it takes is this:
*tag all the music with explicit, like he mentioned. You can even use a third party app like Tag&Rename if the group is large.
*Create a smartplaylist. Set the condition to "comment contains 'explicit'", and check live update. This means any new music you tag with "explicit" will go on the list automatically
*CTRL+click on any check box in the playlist. All the checks will go away. This will keep them out of general playing when sensitive ears might hear.
*On the iPods, set the sync conditions to either only load checked songs, or select the playlists that will sync (this is great once the kids create their own preferences for the iPods). Either way will keep the less kid friendly music off the iPods.
Sounds like a lot, but 15-25 minutes up front at most, and the system pretty much takes care of itself after that.
And, just to be open, I use pretty much this setup myself. I have a fairly sizeable collection of live recordings from regional venues (and some national acts) that would pretty much fill up the iPod on their own. This setup lets me quickly decide what, if any, of them I want loaded. Same with holiday music.
Again, if this is the one thing that is keeping you from trying Apple computers, please, keep thinking about it! Visit some of the relevant discussions and ask some questions. There are plenty of folks that would be happy to give you the wisdom of their experience.
Either way, enjoy!

  • How can I add the lyrics for songs in MP3 format in iTunes for Windows? There is even no the 'Lyrics' tab in the 'Get Info'.

This topic may be old for you, but I searched everywhere on internet and there's still no solution. I even called the Apple Support and the contact support is taking so long to answer... I can't add the lyrics for songs in MP3 format in my iTunes 11.1.3 for my Windows 8.1, I clicked right at the song in my iTunes library, clicked 'Get Info', and there's no 'Lyrics' tab there. I tried several lyrics-adder programs but they just won't work. How can I add lyrics for my MP3 songs then?

You may find that the file is Read-only, which means that it cannot be altered.
However, you can change the Read-only in "Properties" using your file manager.
    1. The location (for the next step) of a song is found by looking n the Get Info/Summary>Where: of each song. Make a note of the location.
    2. Go to the location (on your computer) of the song, right-click it and the last item on the pop-up menu is Properties. Go into Properties/General>Atributes and turn off the tick in the box named Read-only. Now go back to your iTunes Library and try that song again. The Lyrics tab should now be there.

  • HT201272 I cannot Download  explicit lyric songs

I have bought music that is available in the Canadian ITunes Store that has both explicit lyric songs and non explicit lyric songs. The non explicit songs download without a problem but the explicit lyric songs just go directly to the iCloud and I cannot make them available to download to my phone. I do not have any parental restrictions on my account but still am not able to get the songs.

Can you download any other apps?

  • Searching for and deleting songs with explicit lyrics

Hello. Over the years my song library has grown a bunch, but my music preferences have changed. I no longer wish to suddenly hear a song throwing the F-bomb around. Since I listen on my iPhone and cannot delete the song immediately, I need to know if there is a way to search for songs in iTunes for explicit lyrics so that I can delete them from my library. Is there a way?
    Thanks for the help!!!!

Thre is not a way to do it directly that I am aware of but you can go down your song list and just look for the red explicit label and delete it that way.

  • How do you put lyrics onto songs that were imported from a cd?

I put the One Direction CD on my computer and I would like to put the lyrics on the songs so I can read them on my phone. When I click get info there is no lyric tab like on the songs I have purchased of itunes. How do I put the lyrics on? Thanks !

You'll need to import the tracks into your library first, then add lyrics via Get Info. one track at a time. Files in .wav format don't have tag support and can't take lyrics.

  • How do you block explicit lyrics in iTunes store?

My daughter can not buy explicit lyrics due to settings we have put in place but she can still listen to the short clips of the songs marked explicit.  Is there a way to block this as well?

    Hi,
I don't know - the filtering only seems to work searching my library - it is not available in the iTunes store. I have, however, found a solution in cyberspace:
    itms://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/advancedSearch
accesses the old advanced search interface. There are still a number of highly annoying issues, such as not being able to use boolean search arguments which would be necessary if you are looking for songs by Reed, or Chuck Berry, not recorded by themselves. As it is iTunes only provides you with a tiny fraction of the total number of songs and if you can't filter away those by the composer it is not very useful. In fact, as I think about it, I believe that this is a bigger issue. It's as if iTunes/record companies weren't really trying to sell the music...
Oh well. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm going to have to accept the situation as it is.

  • How do you put the lyrics of songs on your ipod?

My brother has on his lyrics to songs on his ipod and I was wondering how you do that.

You copy the lyrics. The you right click the song you got the lyrics for and press "Get info". Then you select the lyrics tab and paste them in there.

  • Sort by Explicit lyrics

I am curious if song files are encoded with an explicit lyric tag. I know it wouldn't be with all file types, probably just those purchased legally. ITunes posts an explicit tag before purchase on some songs, could that be stored with the file after purchase? I work with kids and it would be great to listen to my music without worrying if the next word is inappropriate for their "virgin" ears.

Yes, that's seems to be the only solution, however I was trying to get iTunes to do a Smart Playlist or something it for me, since I have over 11,000 songs in my library...

  • Explicit Lyrics (or lack of)

Hey i'm a new user to these forums, cos this is my first problem. I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but here goes.
Anyway i recently downloaded the "Expansion Team" album by Dilated Peoples. The download was fine except that the explicit lyrics (which i wanted) were cut out or played over etc.
The red "explicit" sign was there and there is no "clean" version for this album.
Is there anyway to get a refund or replacement or something?? Any help appreciated!!

You need to email the music store to let them know of the incorrect listing on there pages AND so they can refund you or offer the correct version. Here is the Email form http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/songs/

  • I want to add song info to music, but how do I do it with iTunes 11?

I wanted to add info to songs of local artists who don't have song info in the CD and mixed CDs that friends make for me! I don't know how with iTunes 11!

Select the song you want to add info to > go the the menu bar at the top and under > File select the > Get Info option. A new window should open where you can add all the metadata (CD, artist, name, genra, art, lyrics, and more).

  • Is there a fix for itunes match replacing my explicit lyrics?

Is there a fix for the explicit lyrics probem yet?

No. However you can turn off iTunes Match on the device, sync the explicit song, then re-enable iTM. Then your iOS device will play the correct version of the song.

  • Problem Editing Song Info

There are some random numbers in the lyrics section of an entire album i have in iTunes. I can erase the numbers and click next to do the same for the other songs, but when i return to the song info, the same numbers are back! I can replace the numbers with the lyrics for the song, but the numbers still show up on my iPod instead of the lyrics. How can I get rid of the numbers so that I can put the lyrics in that section and have the lyrics show up on my iPod instead of the numbers?

gonaners16, i guess this coud be something completely different. I have similar weired problems with my latest iTunes since a while also influencing the lyrics i have and see in iTunes in relation to what i have on the iPod.
1 modifications on iTunes lyrics do not appear on my iPod
2 if i remove the lyrics inside iTunes, old, often unformatted text shows up (this could be the text of Your old numbers). So it seems that i'm not able to remove this old text in iTunes at all.
The oly thng i could do is to reedit (or copy new text over the old). Seems to work fine in iTunes itself. But, it only seems. Synchronized to the iPod this does totally no effect to the lyrics on the iPod screen.
3 it has nothing to do with read/write permissions so far. But
4 it has to do whether You are using "MP3" fileformat or the original AAC-coded Apple format "M4A".
For whatever reasons (I do not know so far) iTunes modifies (i would rather call it "infect") MP3 files containing lyrics).
5 Approach for a solution: Editing of infected files ? No way. ==> Convert them to "M4A" using the onboard-iTunes coverter to AAC-version. And You are out of problems.

  • Mp3 tagging song info rename revert PROBLEM!!!

    Hi guys,
I can see that there are loads of people who have the same problem as me. That is... that itunes is a mp3 tagging nightmare. The problem is simple. after editing song information in itunes. sometime later, itunes will happily revert or change the info back to the original file name or only display a portion of it. Im sure you guys know what im talking bout. Someone suggested that u edit the ID3 tags with an external program. However, what i dont understand is that, my itunes last time had no problem whatsoever displaying the correctly edited song information. Suddenly, now it decides to randomly change whatever it feels like. Also, it is extremely troublesome to externally edit the song info. The whole point of itunes is to make it convenient and simple to use. What is the point of having itunes only to have to use another program to edit the info??? I have seen numerous other threads with the same problem as me. What frustrates me is that... why is Apple not doing anything bout it? and why arent they posting any solutions or answers as to why their fantastic software is behaving like a spoilt kid. Why are there no answers. It is NOT a small program. I have about 10000 songs and countless CDs. You cannot imagine what a headache it is to have spent months and months of carefully and meticulously editing the song info in itunes to perfection, only to start it up one day and find that 5000 songs are incorrectly named.
For Apple, this is just simply unacceptable.

Hey guys, i got this from the WMP help file...
"Update my music files (WMA and MP3 files) by retrieving missing media information from the Internet
Specifies that the Player automatically obtain and update missing media information for music files that are added to or are in Media Library, if the information is available. By default, the music files in your My Music folder are added to Media Library.
The Player attempts to update any missing media information in your music files by sending data about the files to a database operated by WindowsMedia.com if this check box is selected and you perform any of the following actions:
Use Media Library for the first time after updating the Player
Add files to Media Library by searching your computer
Add files to monitored folders, such as My Music
For example, if you have music files that contain the artist name but not the album name, the Player adds the album name to the file after retrieving the information from the database.
The Player also adds album art to files and music folders in your My Music folder."
In light of this information, wouldnt it be fair to say that WMp will only rename the files if they are physically added by the user in WMP? If i am not using WMP to play my mp3s, then why would WMP still be tracking and altering the file names?

  • I've imported several CDs that are "collections", with songs by various artists.  Only a PORTION of the song info appears in iTunes, and, when a song is "clicked-on" to play it, a message appears that the "song could not be found".  Any ideas ?

The CDs are imported into the "iTunes Media" folder, under "Compilations".   Each CD has a folder, with the name of the CD.  However, EACH SONG in the folder is assigned a sequential number as a prefix before the song's name.  For example "2-1 Sunshine of Your Love."  This prefix, I believe, prevents the song from being imported into the iTunes library.  The song's name appears in the iTunes library (with the number prefix), BUT no other song info (artist, CD name, time, etc.) shows in the iTunes library.   I am NOT designating these CD's as "complilations", but somehow, iTunes is arbitrarily assigning them to this "Compilations" folder, and then assigning sequential numbers to each song.    I am confused.  (My only remedy is to MANUALLY remove the prefix number from each song in the CD folder, within the COMPILATIONS folder, then "re-import" it into iTunes.  Cumbersome.)    Thanks in advance for any opinion, tips or guidance.

The numeric prefixes in filenames are probably the optional disc number, followed by the track number. iTunes will pick up the Compilation flag from the Gracenote CDDB database if you ripped the tracks with iTunes, or the flag may have been set earlier if these are existing tracks you have imported into a new library.  The iTunes naming convention is <Artist>\<Album>\[<D#>-]<T##> <Name>.<Ext> where Album Artist is used instead of Artist if not blank, and Compliations is used instead of Artist when Part of a compilation is true. Empty Artist or Album values are replaced with Unknown Artist or Unknown Album respectively. With Windows, file and folder names are limited to 40 characters. If more than one file is added with the same details subsequent tracks get suffixes to separate them.
If iTunes can't find a file that usually means that it has been moved after it was added to the library. Select a single broken track and press CTRL+I to Get Info. Look on the summary tab at the location that iTunes expects to find the file. Where is it really? Post back both paths and I might be able to figure out what has happened, and suggest a fix.

  • I would like to take a iTunes play list and put it on a USB drive for my car radio to stay in my car. Is there a way to do this through iTunes so you have all the song info and there's no number in front of the name of the song? Is there a program?

iTunes only syncs to Apple devices.
Assuming the media is not DRM protected, any of the media can be dragged and dropped from iTunes onto other drives (external, flash, etc) as the user chooses.
