Explicit Lyrics (or lack of)

Hey i'm a new user to these forums, cos this is my first problem. I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but here goes.
Anyway i recently downloaded the "Expansion Team" album by Dilated Peoples. The download was fine except that the explicit lyrics (which i wanted) were cut out or played over etc.
The red "explicit" sign was there and there is no "clean" version for this album.
Is there anyway to get a refund or replacement or something?? Any help appreciated!!

You need to email the music store to let them know of the incorrect listing on there pages AND so they can refund you or offer the correct version. Here is the Email form http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/songs/

  • How do you block explicit lyrics in iTunes store?

My daughter can not buy explicit lyrics due to settings we have put in place but she can still listen to the short clips of the songs marked explicit.  Is there a way to block this as well?

    Hi,
I don't know - the filtering only seems to work searching my library - it is not available in the iTunes store. I have, however, found a solution in cyberspace:
    itms://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/advancedSearch
accesses the old advanced search interface. There are still a number of highly annoying issues, such as not being able to use boolean search arguments which would be necessary if you are looking for songs by Reed, or Chuck Berry, not recorded by themselves. As it is iTunes only provides you with a tiny fraction of the total number of songs and if you can't filter away those by the composer it is not very useful. In fact, as I think about it, I believe that this is a bigger issue. It's as if iTunes/record companies weren't really trying to sell the music...
Oh well. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm going to have to accept the situation as it is.

  • Sort by Explicit lyrics

I am curious if song files are encoded with an explicit lyric tag. I know it wouldn't be with all file types, probably just those purchased legally. ITunes posts an explicit tag before purchase on some songs, could that be stored with the file after purchase? I work with kids and it would be great to listen to my music without worrying if the next word is inappropriate for their "virgin" ears.

Yes, that's seems to be the only solution, however I was trying to get iTunes to do a Smart Playlist or something it for me, since I have over 11,000 songs in my library...

  • Is there a fix for itunes match replacing my explicit lyrics?

Is there a fix for the explicit lyrics probem yet?

No. However you can turn off iTunes Match on the device, sync the explicit song, then re-enable iTM. Then your iOS device will play the correct version of the song.

  • Explicit Lyrics in song info?

A lot of my music is imported from CD, my mum's, my sister's, and my brothers' collections are all on my computer.
Problem is, while my sister is using my machine or in my room while i'm playing music, some songs come on that i don't want to hear. My mum's a bit old fashioned too, and she doesn't like hearing music with a lot of explicit lyrics in them.
Is there a music format that allows you to set explicit lyrics on a song so I can set up parental controls or party shuffle to stop them being played at certain times?

Andrew, don't let this one little thing stop you if you are considering a Macintosh. There are so many great things to offer for this to stop you dead in your tracks.
And, as Otto mentioned, it is really very simple to sort them all out, especially if you are going to be involved in what goes on the wee-ones' iPods. All it takes is this:
*tag all the music with explicit, like he mentioned. You can even use a third party app like Tag&Rename if the group is large.
*Create a smartplaylist. Set the condition to "comment contains 'explicit'", and check live update. This means any new music you tag with "explicit" will go on the list automatically
*CTRL+click on any check box in the playlist. All the checks will go away. This will keep them out of general playing when sensitive ears might hear.
*On the iPods, set the sync conditions to either only load checked songs, or select the playlists that will sync (this is great once the kids create their own preferences for the iPods). Either way will keep the less kid friendly music off the iPods.
Sounds like a lot, but 15-25 minutes up front at most, and the system pretty much takes care of itself after that.
And, just to be open, I use pretty much this setup myself. I have a fairly sizeable collection of live recordings from regional venues (and some national acts) that would pretty much fill up the iPod on their own. This setup lets me quickly decide what, if any, of them I want loaded. Same with holiday music.
Again, if this is the one thing that is keeping you from trying Apple computers, please, keep thinking about it! Visit some of the relevant discussions and ask some questions. There are plenty of folks that would be happy to give you the wisdom of their experience.
    Either way, enjoy!

  • HT201272 I cannot Download  explicit lyric songs

I have bought music that is available in the Canadian ITunes Store that has both explicit lyric songs and non explicit lyric songs. The non explicit songs download without a problem but the explicit lyric songs just go directly to the iCloud and I cannot make them available to download to my phone. I do not have any parental restrictions on my account but still am not able to get the songs.

Can you download any other apps?

  • Searching for and deleting songs with explicit lyrics

Hello. Over the years my song library has grown a bunch, but my music preferences have changed. I no longer wish to suddenly hear a song throwing the F-bomb around. Since I listen on my iPhone and cannot delete the song immediately, I need to know if there is a way to search for songs in iTunes for explicit lyrics so that I can delete them from my library. Is there a way?
    Thanks for the help!!!!

Thre is not a way to do it directly that I am aware of but you can go down your song list and just look for the red explicit label and delete it that way.

  • Explicit lyrics are automatically being censored...

I'm trying to import the 8 mile soundtrack cd, which has alot of profanity, and when i listen to the songs in my playlist, they seem to have been automatically censored. I'm not offended by swearing and I find it ruins the songs when lyrics are cut out. What can i do?

alright i made a mistake. i was importing my gfs copy, which is a censored version! oops... now where is my copy?

  • Can I find a clean version of explicit songs on itunes

Could someone tell me how to find clean versions of chart songs without the explicit content for my 10 year old daughter . all I seemed to be able to find is the one with lots of explicit lyrics not suitable for her ears .

Does anyone have an answer? Where can I find a earlier version of Firefox that will be compatible with OS10.4.6 ?

  • Parental Controls does not delete explicit song titles

If music has explicit lyrics, parental controls makes this music inaccessible. That's fine, but parental controls should also make explicit titles invisible. Why display the titles of music that cannot be accessed to children?

The Explicit controls in iTunes are only for iTunes store content.
If you RIP CDs or get music elsewhere, they are not marked explicit in iTunes.
Why not create a user account on the computer for your children and add only the content that you deem appropriate?

  • I bought the wrong album

I just bought the new "The Pack" album and it said "explicit" on it but it is totally censored. There are two of the same albums but one of them is probably the clean version even though it says explicit lyrics. How can I get my money back so I can purchase the right album?

The thing to do is call Apple (1 800 MY-APPLE) and have the good folks there direct you. I am not sure they will be able to refund your money ... but they may be able to work something out with you. No promises, but you can't win if you don't play.
But just an FYI, this is probably not the forum you want ... this forum is for iTunes U -- "U" as in "University" -- content creators. Unless you're involved with creating content for distribution within some university someplace, yuo're likely not going to get loads of help here.

  • Help NOT downloading apps to iTunes on my PC

I have three girls ages 9, 11 and 13.  they each have iPhones or iTouches and download a whole lot od what I call "CRapps".  We use a single itunes account because I want to be able to guard against explicit lyric songs and age-inappropriate games, etc.
I don't mind them having them on their devices. But every time I launch iTunes, it starts to download all 128 apps (5-15 MB a piece!!) to my PC.Can I tell iTunes on my desktop that I NEVER want to download all the apps that my family gets for their devices to my PC?  I've already edited my preferences under the "store" tab to NOT automatically download app purchases made on other devices, but it doesn't seem to stop it.
A corollary question:  Once apps ot in iTunes on my PC.  Can I delete them, without causing them to delete on my kids' devices?
Much gratitude in advance for any answers!
    Cheers

    Couple of questions
Have you backed up to this computer before?
Are those apps part of family sharing?

  • Best way to set up two new iTouches for kids

I have a two new iTouches for my daughter (8) and son (5). My iPhone is set up with iTunes on my iMac computer. Both kids have an a user account on the iMac. What is the best way to set up the iTouch's for my kids?
Do I use my Apple ID for their iTouch and sync it to iTunes on my iMac user account (same as my iPhone)?
Do I use my Apple ID for their iTouch and set up iTunes on their user accounts on my iMac?
Do I get my kids their own Apple ID and sync it to iTunes on my iMac user account?
Do I get my kids their own Apple ID and sync it to iTunes on their user accounts on my iMac?
Do I set up one Apple ID for both kids and sync to iTunes so they can have the same games and only pay once?
I also have an iPad that I sync to iTunes on my usser account.
    Thanks

I have the same dliemma. Daughter 8, son 6 - 2 new itouches for xmas - one library , my iPad, wife's iPhone ??
I was intending on just keeping one library (this does contain music with explicit lyric content etc) and manage their music via separate playlists.
As far as accounts and restrictions go, I was going to set them up with their own itunes account (using mail addresses only I can use). Load the account up with a voucher each.
The restrictions I was going to apply at the iPod (rather than the account) using a PIN I know - this way you can limit Safarii browsing (i.e. turn it off), youtube, and the age limit to the apps they can install and run - and the movie ratings allowed etc.
Happy to hear other ideas though - I'm intending on setting this up BEFORE they get them.

  • Why is the cloud giving me edited versions of my songs?

I have a great collection of music that contains explicit lyrics and had them all go to the cloud.  In just attempted to listen to 2Pac's All Eyez On Me, within the first few lines I noticed that I now had the edited for content version.  There is no way I can listen to 2Pac without the curses.  Has anyone else seen this?

  • HT1904 Hiding songs in my iTunes Match library

I have subscribed to iTunes Match, and now my entire music library is visible to my kids. I've got some songs that have explicit lyrics and explicit titles (think Team America: World Police soundtrack). Is there a way for me to hide these songs so the kids can't see the titles or play the songs either on purpose or accidentally if they pick up one of my iOS devices?

Had to drag-drop songs into itunes from drive.
