Explorer hang & right click hour glass
Windows SErver 2012 R2 terminal server. All clients having the same issue. When right clicking an icon on the desktop to bring up menu (cut, copy, paste, etc.) or right clicking from Explorer the system goes to an hour glass. I have downloaded and ran
the Microsoft scanning tool and nothing was found on the server.
CrispyCritter,
Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if the problem persists.
Problems when right-clicking an element in Windows Explorer are often caused by faulty context menu handlers.
You can get ShellExView to see which shell extensions are installed and disable them one by one to find the culrpit:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
Also try running a Anti-Virus scan on the system and see if you can find something.
Hope this helps.

Bug: Quick Access (DE:Schnellzugriff) - crashes Explorer when right click
When I right click on any quick access folder to remove/edit, it crashes the running explorer.exe. I'll have to restart task via taskmanager manually.
Build: 10041This is not the usual behavior of the windows Server.
Please perform the following things
1) Perform a clean boot
http://technetfaqs.wordpress.com/2009/05/18/how-to-clean-boot-in-windows-2008-server/
2) Go to the safe mode and try to perform a virus check using the malicious virus removal tool
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830/en-us
3) If none of the above helps then you should generate the dump file and analyze it to find the root cause of the problem which is not easy for the new users. How ever if you generate it and put it to the sky drive I will try to analyze and let you know

Itunes wont even open. Double click = hour glass spin then nothing..
I'm having a problem with itunes8. When I doubleclick on the desktop icon, or access itunes from any shortcut or the direct EXE the mouse cursor turns into the hourglas for about 3-5 seconds, goes back to normal cursor, then nothing happens. itunes wont even pop up. I get no error messages, and I DONT get the BSOD like most are reporting problems getting. I get NOTHING at all.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled with the newer updated itunes8 installer and that still will not work. I also had itunes 7.7 downloaded from the other week before 8 was released, it does the same thing. It wont run either..
I was on the line with tech support last night (iphone tech, not itunes tech; they were closed) and we tried removing ALL startup items, installing, ect and it still did not work.
Does anyone have any idea whats up?Yes, I've tried that guide..
I spent 3 hours with tech support over the last few days and they have no idea what it could be
I've also:
disabled firewalls completely PLUS adding all Apple applications to exception list just in case
done COMPLETE uninstall of ALL apple products plus used microsoft install cleaner then reinstalling
tried booting up with NO startup items whatsoever and no services except microsoft services
Installed quick time separately first, then itunes
tried installing itunes 7.7
I thought MAYBE it was because I'm running a custom version of XP (Bariski edition) so I installed itunes 8 on my other computer which is running the plain old XP SP2 from MS and it actually did the exact same thing. It "pretended" (as i like to say) to load itunes then never popped up. -
Run script from explorer context(right-click) menu
Hi,
I have an existing powershell script which removes certain filetypes from a directory however it requires the script and shortcut to be in the directory I want to process. I was wondering if it was possible to put this script (or a VBS equivalent) in a central
location, create an entry on the explorer context menu that when run would call the script using the current directory as the directory that the script is to process.
I don't mind if this is entirely powershell/VBS/.BAT or even if there is some 3rd party app that can easily form part of the process. I'd appreciate any recommendations how to approach this.
ThanksThe context menus are defined by registry entries.
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\PowershellScript]
@="My Powershell Script"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\PowershellScript\command]
@="CMD.EXE /C Powershell.exe -File C:\\Scripts\\MyScript.ps1 %1"
%1 is generated by the context menu and is the folder name
The script needs to accept this path as parameter.

Even after closing down the application, the firefox task remains running in the background and must be killed with Windows Task Control.
Even deinstalling and installing the latest beta version does not solve it. Unfortunately I have to use Google Chrome Now.Ok. I disabled hardware acceleration. The only extension is the McAfee Scriptscan for Firefox 15.1.0, which was already disabled. I then disabled all plugins (Acrobat, Google Update, Intel Identity Protection (2x), Java Deployment Toolkit, Java Platform, MS Office 2013, Quicktime, Shockwave, Silverlight), which were all up to date.
Normal or safe mode still has same result. No startup, no option button and no customize.
Thanks for your help. Got any other suggestions? -
Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - Creating PDF from explorer (Right-Click) problem
Hello,
I am new here. I've searched the forums here and maybe I've missed finding the solution. We recently updated from Acrobat 6 Pro to Acrobat 9 Pro, and I can no longer get a PDF to be created in the same folder the Word, Excel or other file is located.
In otherwords, when I use (under Windows Explorer) the right-click option and Convert to Adobe PDF, Acrobat 9 Pro keeps asking me where to save this file! Under Acrobat 6 Pro, it would just create the file under the same folder unless I specified otherwise.
I have tried to look under the Word 2003 Adobe PDF "Change Conversion Settings" and I do not have the box next to Prompt for Adobe PDF file name checked.
Am I missing something? I would have assumed this simple process would have carried over from Acrobat 6 Pro. I really do not want to go through a bunch of processes just to save the PDF in the same folder. Under Acrobat 6 Pro, this was a simple task. I am not doing anything major, just converting various Word (.doc) files to PDF.
Thanks.Using Windows 7, Acrobat 10.0.1, basically the same problem.
Explorer > Right-Click > Convert to Adobe PDF
brings up the Save As dialog and if you'll notice the path in the address bar at the top, it defaults to the last folder in which you created a PDF.
In the Save As dialog, browse to the folder in which you want to save the PDF then click the Save button. This folder will stay in effect until you change it by browsing to a different one in the Save As dialog.
Using Acrobat X, I tried everything I could think of to get a fast, efficient way of converting multiple files to PDF (with the same name and in the same folder as the source files) and, unfortunately, the method described above seems to be the fastest. I tried drag and drop to an Adobe PDF printer shortcut and that didn't work at all--it did nothing! In Acrobat X, File > Create > Batch Create Multiple Files will present a dialog with options for saving to the same folder and keeping the same name as the source file, although it seems like the files process slower in addition to having to click 8 times (not counting selecting the files) before the process begins.
I fervently hope that Adobe will change Explorer > Right-Click > Convert to Adobe PDF back to automatically saving to the same folder as the source document. -

In addtion to auggy, please use the shellexview to ensure that the ShellStreams64 extension is disabled:
1. Download ShellExView v1.41 from the following link
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.zip
Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance
or reliability.
2.
Extract "shexview.zip" file and open shexview.exe. It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions.
3. Select all the non-Microsoft extensions in pink by press "Ctrl" in the keyboard.
4. Click the "Disable Selected Items" on the toolbar and click Yes.
5. Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
Hope this could be helpful.

Explorer crashes when right-click
Hi,
I've just starting having real trouble with Windows Explorer in Windows 8. Whenever I right-click on anywhere in a local file, or right-click on a local drive, Explorer freezes. I cannot even create a new folder without Explorer crashing. As
I can't right click anywhere, I can't take ownership of the folders to confirm that this isn't a permissions issue. I'm really at a dead end with this.
I have seen that people have had a problem with this in the past when right-clicking on items in the left-hand pane in Explorer, but this problem is much more widespread, as it is affecting every local folder. I followed the advice given in previous posts.
I downloaded ShellExView and disabled each item of the Context Menu type that was non-Windows in turn to see if that solved the problem. I then tried disabling all items that were non-Windows to see if that would work. Neither worked and I still have the problem.
The technical details of the error from the Action Center are below:

The only thing I have changed today is that I have uninstalled and reinstalled uTorrent as it was having a problem. Otherwise, I haven't changed anything in months, and this problem has only started today. I only discovered it when I was trying to create
a new folder to save uTorrent into!
I have also tried running fltmc.exe from the command prompt as an administrator, which prompted the following results:

(Sorry about the spacing) I am at a loss! Any help will be greatly appreciated!I have the same problem, and I have no obscure software installed, I installed a clean windows 8 2 weeks ago as I bought a SSD.

printer working fine prior t power outage. once power restored, printer will not complete initialization process, just hangs and a static hour glass is displayed, running windows XP professional, HP psc2510 wireless photosmart printer
This question was solved.
View Solution.Pull the power cord from both the wall and the printer for 10 minutes. Plug back in and try again. If that does not work, either the printer or the power supply is toast.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
I am employed by HP -
Windows XP. I used to use Firefox and it worked okay. I'm not sure why I downloaded a new version but it won't open. The window that says "Firefox Update" continues to try to load. Hour glass symbol, for hours. If I try to click on the Desktop symbol, Nothing. Then when I try to shut down, it's slow, programs won't quit, or it freezes. I've removed Firefox completely and tried downloading again with the same results. Even with the latest version. Shit. Whassup?
Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
'''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong. -
I'm using Firefox 8.0 on Suse 11.4 today is 11/28/11 the past 24 hours I've been experiencing this: I always try to right click on links and open in new tab, lately when I do so and move the cursor into the dialog box the box disappears. Also if I online shop say for clothing, if I want to change size's when I click the button to do so nothing happens when I want to scroll down and pick a different size, (I can hi-light the size and click on it then when the window scrolls back up the default size is still there. This isn't consistent with all web sites.
You can middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

BW Error on Portal, Right Click gets (Internet Explorer) Menu
Hi Experts,
Our Netweaver Portal is 2004s. There is BW system also in the landscape whose reports are fetched and displayed on the portal. I get the errors when I navigate to (Role) -> GroupReports (Workset) -> Cockpit - > Customer Projects -> Plan Cost Quality -> Market Unit.
Now when I click on Market Unit (in detailed Navigation), its generates a Chart (Image) in the content Area which has many Market Units on the screen. From the list of Market Units in this Image I select any Market unit then Right Click on "Market Unit"- >GoTo-> Projects : Plan Cost Quality by Company. (This right Click gets me BW TYPE of options for DrillDown etc).
It processes and gets me the Name of the Market unit in the NAVIGATION BLOCK. In this Navigation Block, if I right Click on "BUYING CUSTOMER", it gets me a Internet Explorer (Right Click) Menu (with options like OPEN, OPEN IN NEW WINDOW, SAVE TARGET AS..., PRINT TARGET etc ) and not a BW iView Menu that allows me facilities like DRILL DOWN etc.
There are these JAVA SCRIPT ERRORS at the bottom of the browser (left Side - with a message "Done but with errors on page"), when this page is loading after I do Right Click on Market Unit"- >GoTo-> Projects : Plan Cost Quality by Company.
Following are the Java Script Errors in order of NEXT:
1. 'SAPBWJSgdo' is null or not an object
2. Permission Denied.
Plz suggest what needs to be done to resolve this issue.
Regards
SaurabhThe note 783496 addresses your issue.

Update for RDP 8.1 Windows 7 SP1 changed explorer right click context menu
I have a 4 pcs and 3 nas drive on my network. previous to the update I could view my pcs and nas drives in explorers right pane left click one and access the folders on it. since the update I can no longer do this because "remotedesktopconnection"
has been added as the default (previously it was "open") to the right click context menu. can someone help me change this back so when I right click a network computer icon in explorer I only see:
open
AND NOT remotedesktop
open in a new window open
create shortcut open
in a new window
create
shortcut
the exact update that makes the change is: kb2592687Hi
Theoretically it could be done by modify registry. For example you could
modify right click menu on .exe file by changing values under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\
However there are some problems that I cannot define that what kind of “file”
the network computer is.
And I found no article specific to this.
If you really need to restore your context menu and also need this update, I
suggest you uninstall this update first. Then back up your registry, install it
again. This time using process monitor you could record all registry modifications during
this update installation. It might take lots of work.
I tried to do that for you, unfortunately this update has been deployed in our environment which cannot be uninstalled from update history.

Hi.
How to disable ''set as background'' from right click in internet explorer 8,9,10,11 by GPO in Win Serv 2008 R2.
People in my domain can set their background by right click in the pics on their IE, I enabled by GPO a wallpaper by default in ''Administrative Templates > Desktop > Desktop > Desktop Wallpaper'' and I enable too the ''Administrative Templates
> Control Panel > Personalization > Prevent changing desktop background'' at login people have the corporative Desktop but they can change by IE. What can I do? thanks.
<u5:p></u5:p>Hi,
I test this issue, actually, in IE 11, the option "set as backgroud" is grayed out after I applied policy Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization > Prevent changing desktop background, but seems not suitable for
other versions of IE.
You can try other solutions listed in the similiar thread
