Explorer Preventing Download of Flash Player (I think)

This post may repeat some others but I am not an experienced forum user, so . . .
Am running Windows XP and Internet Explorer 9.  IE now tells me I must install latest version of Flash Player, whichever one that is.  Following instructions I uninstalled whatever version of FP I had been running.  Uninstall confirmed.  Went to Adobe.com to download FP10.  Every time (I have done this repeatedly) this is what happens:  (1) click on button for Flash Player.  (2) On FP screen, click on "download" button.  (3) Very briefly (mere seconds) get a download screen but then (a) get IE error message saying that IE was unable to get to/stay with adobe.com due to problem with site. and had to disconnect.  Screen gives option of reconnecting with adobe.com but has never been able to do so.  AT SAME TIME, also get the following IE error message, which I quote:
"iexplore .exe Application Error.  The instruction "0x09be0068" referenced memory at "0x09be0068."  The memory could not be "written."  Click OK to terminate, click Cancel to debug."
The debug function does nothing.  This happens every time -- IE simply won't stay with adobe.com so as to permit me to download the latest FP (presumably FP 10-something).  Can't tell if error is with FP ir IE.  Already went to and tried to follow the "Troubleshooting Flash Player Installation" instructions from adobe.com, but with same result -- you get to a point where IE cuts off adobe.com as described above.  I posted this in another place on the forums site and a helpful person emailed me to say that "this thread is answered," and suggested I go here and start a discussion, and that help would be forthcoming.  I soitainly hope so.  Any takers?

Hi mollybeas, Thanks for starting your discussion. Have you tried the suggestion that Pat posted? If so did that work for you?
If not, let us know. It could be that IE9 needs an adjustment.
Something that you can check is go to Tools, Internet Options and under the Security Tab set it to Medium for the Internet Zone.
You can also go to this Adobe site and as soon as it opens, let me know if you see the Flash Player logo(Red F) animate(spin)
It will also tell you what version of Flash Player you have Installed.

If you tried Pat's suggestion and it didn't solve the issue, please describe what happened when you reply.
Thanks,

how do I download adobe flash player on my new imac

This is asking you to store persistent Flash Cookies (meaning, they are not deleted when you delete your ordinary cookies.) Some sites will not work unless you allow them. Here's how to prevent them from getting on your computer in the first place, while keeping Flash and these sites working.
If you use Firefox, get the Add-on Better Privacy, which will delete them when you quit Firefox.
Or, trick these sites into thinking they are actually storing this crap: (These directions are for Flash Player 10 and above.)
Using the following, no LSOs (Flash Cookies) will be stored and yet Flash is tricked into thinking they are. As far as I can tell all sites employing Flash will function properly; nothing will be broken, including Comedy Central with its streaming video content. (In the directions above, I had mistakenly recommended setting the Storage panel in the local Flash Pref Pane to not allow. It must be left as "Allow sites to store...." This was why the Comedy Central clip I had been trying to play wasn't working.)
First, to get a new, clean folder, start by trashing the Macromedia folder in ~/Library/Preferences. That's in your user Library. Next, do not visit the local Flash Pref Pane in Sys Prefs. Instead, go directly to Adobe Global Privacy settings in the Adobe Settings Manager and set Camera and Mic to "Always deny." Visiting the Settings Manager will automatically create a new, clean Macromedia folder.
(If you first visit the local Flash Pref Pane, the new Macromedia folder will lack the empty default #shared objects folder and its also empty enclosed folder (this is the one with a combination of characters and numerals.) I haven't tested to see what will happen if those two folders are not present. I assume, providing the Macromedia folder is unlocked, they would be created as soon as one visits a Flash site, but they will not be empty and this would defeat the entire purpose.)
If you visit the local Flash Pref Pane now, all the defaults will remain, except for the Camera and Mic panel, where "Always deny" will be checked. Next, it seems prudent to go to the Playback panel and check "Block all sites from using peer assisted networking." But, important, in the Storage panel, you must leave the default "Allow sites to save...." checked. This is how sites using Flash are tricked into thinking storage of Flash Cookies is being allowed when they are, in fact, not.
Next, go back to the Macromedia Folder and, using GetInfo/CMD-I, recursively lock all its enclosed folders. This means starting from the back working ones way up to the front. And, finally, lock the enclosing Macromedia folder itself. Nothing gets stored and everything keeps on working.
(Thanks to Anon at XYMer's for this.)
EDIT: Maybe something I don't know, but I don't think AdBlock in Safari will defeat Flash Cookies. There may be some Safari extension that will.
    Maybe this extension

Hi Terry, A post is the message that anyone has just typed in. When you replied to me, that was your post. I am replying to you so this is my post. Think of it as sending an email or mailing a letter at the "post" office.
Now right at the top of the last post (message) you sent me is a Post#, then the date and time and under that the thread subject "Re: I am trying to download Adobe Flash Player 10 and I keep getting......
The first time that you posted, you described your problem. The next post after that is #1 and so on.
The Adobe Flash Player forum works very much like email except there are a lot of "threads". A thread is what each message you see is called. Everyone that registers can start their own thread (subject). Then other people see it and can post to your thread and try to help you with your problem.
You did pretty good, you registered, and you started your first thread
Now do you feel somewhat more relaxed?  Hope so.
Take a look now and see if you can find the Post# and etc that I described above.

Close all Firefox windows before you run the installer.

  • How can I download Adobe Flash Player?

I think my computer has the minimum hardware configuration to download Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and I thought I had done it. Looking at the Flash Player window(?), however, I see a pencil with a slash through it and the line "1 item, Zero KB available". Does this mean it didn't download because I don't have enough memory? What do I do now? (I wanted to make a photo album from Kodak).

The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • Can't download Adobe Flash Player - but it tells me it has

I'm running Windows Vista and using Internet Explorer.
I am downloading Adobe Flash Player. I go through the whole process without any apparent problems, bugs, etc. At the end of the process it tells me that the download was successful.
But after this, I try to watch a video, or I go to the adobe website to check my current version, and it is apparent the Adobe Flash Player didn't download at all.
    So I am confused!
    How can I download it???????

  • When is it possible to download adobe flash player ?

I think it is too bad that you cannot download adobe flash player on your iPhone4
Why should this be such a problem ? You can do it on any computer, but not on your iPhone.
Please do something about it, or I will change to android, where it is no problem at all.
I really think you are wearing "too small shoes" not having this application as a opportunity.
Hope there are others in this community, who feels the same way.

"Why should this be such a problem ?"
Because Adobe does not make a flash player for iphone.
"Please do something about it, or I will change to android"
Are you aware that you are not addressing Apple here at all?  We are iphone users like you.
Change to Android if you like, because there is no reason at all to believe that this will ever happen.

    Hi..
Assuming you are using Safari ...
    Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure to uninstall the currently installed Flash plugin first.
Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

trying to download adobe flash player and i couldn't

    Hi,
    Try the following.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
    Flash Player Uninstaller.
When the download has completed, close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.  After this has completed, restart the notebook.
Next, download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.  Note: You may want to deselect the option to include McAfee Security Scan Plus before downloading.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if videos etc play Ok - if they do, close Firefox, open Internet Explorer and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component.  When done, restart Internet Explorer.

  • Having no luck in downloading adobe flash player.

HELLO,  I HAVE DOWNLOADED ADOBE FLASH PLAYER AT LEAST 12 TIMES. AFTER CLEARING INTERNET EXPLORER AND YAHOO MESSENGER.
IT GETS LOADED AND THEN IS NOT AVAILABLE. OR TURNED ON.
THE LAST TIME      IT WAS LOADED SAYS READY TO GO.  USED GOOGLE CROME
    HELP PLEASE
    RICH

As Mylenium said, Google Chrome comes with it's own embedded Flash Player.  Updates for flash player come through Google Chrome's update and can't be installed manually.
If you are installing flash through Adobe's installer/updater, you are only effecting the use of Flash Player in Internet Explorer/Mozilla.
If you cannot see flash in Google Chrome, you may want to check and see if the plugin is enabled.
