Explorer starts using Quick Time to play clips "out of the blue" .

When I switched to Safari several years ago I noticed that Explorer did a better job at playing back movie clips so I kept using Explorer for only that purpose and Safari for everything else .
Yesterday all-of-sudden Explorer started using Quick Time to play clips that last week the Explorer player(?) used . Everything had been reset to use Quick Time .
I used finder to see if anything had been modified in Explorer in the last day and found a WAFF cache that was modified at the time of the switch . What is a WAFF cache ?
I put it in the trash and it seems to have fixed it . The clips play in the old manner (sizeable windows) . And everything else seems to still be working .
Does anybody know how and why this happened ?
eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Explorer 5.2.2 Quick Time 7.0.3

You'll find the browser settings in the Sys Prefs/QuickTime/Browser. You'll find "helpers" in the Internet Explorer preferences.
What are "helpers"?
I hadn't realized that Explorer used QTime. So I used finder to to tell me what happens when I download and for each clip it downloads a ;
1) Movie_0000.. IETemp Quick Time Movie 10MB
2)Orig_)0000.. IETemp MPEG Movie 3.4MB
and sometimes but I don't know if always a ;
3)IE Cache.waf 10MB WAFF file .
still wondering how the settings were changed and if the IE Cache wa involved ?

When i try to export my videos using quick time conversion FCE exits out on me. why does it do that?

Does it always happen at the same time during the export?
Can you play through the entire Sequence in FCE without any problems?
What are your Sequence settings in FCE>
Have you rendered fully prior to exporting?
Which export settings did you use?

  • Like night and day, render times just got ridiculous out of the blue.

    Hello.
Last night I finished a 16 minute video (due to client tomorrow) of 5D footage transcoded to Pro Res.  I rendered using the Vimeo HD preset in Premiere, uploaded to Vimeo, and got approval of the final project, with the exception of a handful of edits.  This render took less than an hour.
I make the changes requested (minimal stuff: shortening a scene here, lengthening one there), save, and attempt to render to the same Vimeo HD preset, and now all of a sudden Premiere insists it needs five hours to render a 16 minute pro-res video that took less than an hour to do last night.  Nothing has changed.  Restarted computer several times.  Tried rendering fil to different drives.  It's serious about the five hours thing, too.  I left it alone for an hour thinking it was bluffing, and that it'd finish as fast as last night.  Nope.  An hour in it still said it needed four more.  On top of all of this, the project's already rendered!  Green line throughout entire timeline.  Unacceptable.
    Specs:
    Early 2008 Mac Pro  (3.2 GHz 8-core)
    Lion 10.7.4
    Premiere Pro CS5
    32gbs RAM
Programs and project file on 1 tb boot drive
Footage on 4 tb CalDigit eSata drive
Trying to export to additional 4 tb CalDigit eSata drive
Any help is greatly, greatly, greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

So it's gotten worse.  I gave it a day so I could try to do research, went back to it this afternoon, and now it says it needs over seven hours to do a sixteen minute video that's already rendered.  Turning on previews definitely makes it go faster, but I'm concerned about what Mr. Millaard said about doing that, since this is the final version to be delivered to the client.  I guess before we go any further I should establish: am I right in assuming, given the specs I provided in my original post, that over seven hours to export a 16-minute video is unacceptable?  There are thousands of people cutting longer videos than this in Premiere that they shot on 5D's, surely they all don't take this long?  So frustrated!
    Thanks again.

  • My note 2 just started locking up and not functioning properly out of the blue...any advice.

My note 2 has been working great for over a year without any issues. This morning it locked up for the first time and is now having problems. Very slow response times and just not working as it should.
Any advice out there. Anyone else having issues today?

  • Why is my Mac not using Quick Time when I want to start some Apple tutorials?

I got a new MacBook Pro this April. When I want to run some applications that use Quick Time, it suggests that I should download Quick Time. When it takes me to the appropriate window, it tells me I already have Quick Time installed with the OS. Why is it doing this?

    Hello fmomade,
Some older video and software still requires an older version of QuickTime (version 7) that isn't included with Mountain Lion. It can, however, be downloaded and installed here.
    Installing QuickTime Player 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678
A Mac OS X v10.6, OS X Lion, and OS X Mountain Lion-compatible version of QuickTime Player 7 is available for use with older media or with AppleScript-based workflows. QuickTime Player 7 can be used to playback formats such as QTVR, interactive QuickTime Movies, and MIDI files. Also, it supports QuickTime 7 Pro registration codes for access to QuickTime Pro functionality.
To install QuickTime Player 7 on OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion
Download QuickTime Player 7 from here.
Double-click "QuickTimePlayer7.6.6_SnowLeopard". Note: This download is compatible with Mac OS X v10.6 or later.
QuickTime Player 7 will be installed in your Utilities folder.
    Cheers,

  • How do i get quick time to play all videos on a disc?

how do i get quick time to play all videos on a disc, one after another?

Having just looked at the website, I agree its sparse in information.
I have used VLC for  7 years when I bought my last Mac.
Its my default video player and plays 95% of what i throw at it. It plays large HD files smoother and more reliable than any other player.
Yes It will play QT and yes it has a useful playlist feature.
Look at the feature page: VLC Player

  • HT5409 I asked if AVCHD files can be played on Mac and the support site says to simply click on the icon and quick time will play it. A big lie. Just say it won't support the file type and tell us what apps to get.

I asked if AVCHD files can be played on Mac and the support site says to simply click on the icon and quick time will play it. A big lie. Just say it won't support the file type and tell us what apps to get. anybody?

I also had issues opening AVCHD files on case-sensitive filesystems.
You can try these steps to solve the issue:
Right click on the AVCHD file and select 'Show Package Contents'
Right click on the BDMV file and select 'Show Package Contents'
Rename index.bdm to INDEX.BDM (it seems that all files in the BDMV folder should be in UPPERCASE for Quicktime to open the AVCHD file).
Go back twice and try again to double-click on the AVCHD file (Quicktime should open a window showing the multiple clips, as expected).

  • Using quick time videos (for web)

    Hi guys,
In my project I am using quick time videos within director,
which work fine when it is published and play back in the
projector. However when I export for web, the videos don't play
back in the web browser. Is there something I am missing when
    exporting?
    Many thanks,
    Rich

Yeah, I did upload them in their relative folder. They are
    about 15MB each and 30 seconds long. I don't have a "dswmedia"
foler, what do I need to do with that? The error message I get
    is...
"This application requires an Xtra (QuickTime) that either
does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure
the appropiate Xtras are in the Xtras folder"
    Thanks!

  • Export using quick time

    Hi there everyone
I have just exported using quicktime and the appropriate settings in imovie, when I went into idvd to set up and bring in movie it said that it hadn't been prepared for sharing and to share using media browser. Do I have to also do this if I have exported using quick time ?
Or as normal am I missing something
    Thanks
    Tim

Mate trust me stick to the computers i'd say...... It was fun and I miss it alot but its not easy. We were farming a particular species called discuss hanni - asian i think and they are so delicate compared to others, they're the hardest to keep from dying and maintain a decent growth rate but they fetch serious money..... Its ok for the farms in japan and places alike as labour is so cheap but we were here in I Ireland and Labour is lets just say a wee bit on the expensive side. To cut along story short we were flying it we were the biggest farm farming that species in Europe and the first in the world to start using recirculatin water systems ( only use 5% fresh sea water per day ) - less pumping costs and manual cleaning labour costs. We were looking to sell 100 ton a year so needed appropriate investment - around 5 mill over 10 years - along came mr recession investors pulled out and bang. I now wake up in the morning look over the sea and see a ghost farm out on the point....... Thats why I have now ventured into the wedding business ( video booths ).......
Ireland is not in a good place at the mo....
    Thanks for help

  • Quick time 2 play DVD

Hello, I've downloaded quick time 4 times now and cannot get one that runs on iMac purchased 9/08. Error message when I try to play a DVD says I need another component and I get this page of other down loads that don't seem to apply to me. The DVD was burned on a PC. It plays fine on my daughter's iMac which is a year older using quick time. Any suggestions? Thanks. (The purchased DVD's play just fine on my iMac.)

The older iMac computer plays burned DVD's with the free downloaded Quick time, dame version I downloaded. (The applications folder program plays the purchased DVD's just fine, it won't play the burned ones.) I'd like my new iMac to also play burned DVD's some way.

  • I have AVI files that I need to be MOV files so that I can edit them in Final Cut Pro. I am going to use Quick Time Pro for this....do I have to 'export' it or can I just 'save as', or is there even a difference? Thanks in advance for your help!

I have AVI files that I need to convert to MOV files so that I can edit them in Final Cut Pro. I am going to use Quick Time Pro for this....When I have the files open in QT Pro do I have to 'export' it or can I just 'save as', or is there even a difference? Thanks in advance for your help!

I strongly recommend you use compressor to do the conversion (if it will open the files - since quicktime will open them, it will more than likely do it.
Compressor allows you to customize presets and save them and apply them to multiple files.  Although the interface may seem daunting, it's actually pretty simple.
Even if you can edit the avi in fcp, it's not a good idea.  Liable to cause problems down the road.

  • How do I export a Final Cut Express 4 movie using quick time conversion without stretching the image?

I have created a movie in Final Cut Express 4 using videos and still photos of various aspect ratios and resolutions.  Some of the photos are verticals.  When I try to use File>Export>Using Quick Time Conversion, my images end up being stretched horizontally when the video is finally processed.  I have tried preserving the aspect ratio but the video still ends up stretched horizontally.  What should my settings be in Quick time conversion?  I just want to make a video for YouTube.
    Thanks.  -Bob

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Do you backup your iMovie Events folder?

I don't because it's huge, and I figure, I could always just re-import the original AVCHD footage. For example, my Events folder is 1.1TB and it would cripple my Time Machine backup disk. I do backup my iMovie and iDVD Projects, however. A few questi
