Explorer Thumbnails

I have upgraded to Illustrator CS4 and the thumbnails do not appear in Explorer. How do I get the thumbnails to show up for my ai files?

Adobe Illustrator introduced this shameful bug with CS3 and proudly is shipping the same bug with CS4.
Mac user have receive the misinformation saying that was MacOS (Operating System) fault, and at the same time, PC users like yourself were receiving the misinformation that the problem was with Microsoft OS.
The reality is that Adobe did not fix any of the bugs in version CS3, but they were very happy to sell you the new version CS4 with old bugs and new ones (like the Memory Bug). CS4 have less bugs than CS3, but some of the bugs on CS4 are very critical (Like the Memory Bug).
Since Adobe doesn’t care to fix its versions and it is only interested to sell you “The Next Versions”, the only solution for you, is to purchase a general plug-in for your computer to do what this lousy version is not allowing you to do, or...
If you bought the “Creative Suite”, you can use Bridge to preview the icons.

Windows Explorer Thumbnail View

Hi guys
I am making a photo gallery system software in the main window I want to show images in thumbnail view. however I see people that they use JButton to show each thumbnail I think that's unconventional so I am trying to create something like Windows Explorer thumbnail view but I don't know how do it. I have a class named thumbnail which will get an image and resize it to thumbnail and put a border around it but i don't know where to put that thumbnail. I think JTable is a good place since you can select the cells but then again i don't know how to add an image to a cell

Thankx actually I kinda got it working however there are two problems
1-how can i add images dynamiclly I mean I want start with zero row and and whenever someone imports an image to system I want to show the thumnanil of that in the table. meaning adding that image to next avaialbe cell
2-if i have 6 column and 10 rows that's 60 cells but imagine if i have added only 51 images added so that take 51 cells and 9 cells are empty which a row and half and the system has option to select all thumbnail (like explorer) but the problem is it will even select the cells that are empty since it is a table
if someone know how to do this or give me a hint i appreciate it

Explorer thumbnails with glitches in windows 8+

Hello again. I am having a problem with SOME thumbnails returned by IShellItemImageFactory. Some have black stains around them as you can see in this pic:

I don't understand what you mean. You yourself saw the glitch. When exactly does it magically go away? windows explorer doesn't have it. The MSDN sample does suffer it like any other program. What did your "expert colleagues" had to say

How to enable Windows Explorer Thumbnail Viewer to display PSD files?

Hi,
I am using Adobe Photoshop Extended CS5 (64-Bit) on Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit).
When using Windows Explorer to browse through file folders, I notice that the Photoshop files (.psd) do not display a thumbnail preview, like other graphic files do. How can I enable the Windows Explorer Thumbnail Viewer to display PSD files?

Adobe software doesn't provide a 64 bit codec and as far as I know there is no freeware to do it on x64 systems.
There are two pay-for applications that I know of: Mystic Thumbs and Ardfry's PSD codec

Photoshop CS4 .psd Win Explorer THUMBNAILS

How? its certainly not an option to be enabled in the installer or anywhere else for that matter....
And why are Adobe trying to force users to use that bloated and useless bridge ****? by not implementing default windows support for thumbnail generation of .psd files?
And if you haven't guessed I don't like bridge and if it were possible to not have it on my system I would surely make sure it never touched my pc.. so much for Adobe's useless installer forcing this onto customers.

like the lack of Explorer thumbnails but it is the result of an unresolved incompatibility between Adobe and Microsoft since Version 7.
We
users can't do anything about it, except use un-approved workarounds which may result in catastrophic loss of data.
If you are unhappy, write to Adobe not us!

Adobe Acrobat 8.1 Professional - Explorer Thumbnails not showing

Hi to all:
Recently I upgraded my Acrobat professional (part of the CS3 Design Premium Package) to version 8.1., and now the thumbnails in the windows explorer on PDF files are not showing anymore (in some files). It's only showing a simple sheet with the acrobat logo inside. Is there any way to bring them back?
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, 1.5 Gb memory and a 256 Mb. Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 Graphic card.

I have the same problem mentioned in the original post of this thread. It looks like the first reply misunderstood the issue. It is this:
In Windows Explorer on XP or Vista with Acrobat 7 (maybe 8.0 too, I don't know) the icon for a PDF file would display a thumbnail image of the first page of the PDF.
Starting with 8.1 (it might have been 8.0, but I skipped that version) the thumbnails are not shown -- only the Acrobat icon.
Before someone suggests it -- yes I have unchecked "Always show icons, never thumbnails" in the folder options dialog for Explorer. So that is not the problem here.
I have read hints about a fued between Adobe and Microsoft that brought this situation about. I am disappointed that Adobe is willing to punish their customers (again) as part of this battle.
With this and other lost features in 8.1 as well as the lack of response I have had over a licensing question, I have decided to switch to NitroPDF instead. If I have to, I'll write my own thumbnail viewer using the Foxit API.

Windows Explorer Thumbnail View and 7D Mark II RAW Files

I am running latest version of PhotoShop CC on Windows 8.1 Toshiba laptop. Prior to purchasing my Canon 7D Mark II, I could view Canon RAW files as photo thumbnails in Windows Explorer. Since upgrading cameras, I get generic thumbnails when I view a folder full of RAW files from the 7D Mark II. Is there a fix? I use Irfanview as a general file viewer and Adobe Camera RAW to open files in PhotoShop, but I seriously miss the ability to find a specific photo quickly in Windows Explorer.

may I suggest that you try to use Bridge to view and navigate between the thumbnails with the possibility of having the large preview of each image in more than Adobe Bridge updates with PS and Camera Raw.

64 bit Windows XP explorer thumbnails

Just upgraded a workstation in my office, and the new 64 bit system doesn't show PDS thumbnails in the windows explorer.
We used the psicon.dll before, but it doesn't work on the 64 bit.
Any suggestions?

Thanks to everyone for giving all the info. I didn't mention in the original post that in our office we also use Picassa for our library searches, which works pretty well, although it's not perfect.
For my purposes, I'm trying converting my folder of template files to .TIFs to see if that works for me.
Thanks again, and I hope that Adobe and/or Microsoft work this annoying problem out.

Thumbnails Freehand MX

In Windows 7 64 bit Freehand MX (11.0.2) installation by default does not display thumbnail in windows explorer thumbnail view. Is there a way to fix it?

Is this happening only in FreeHand?
Keyboard languages are set in System Preferences>International>Input Menu. Then check on the language(s) I don't know if this helps if only FreeHand is affected though.

IWeb - creating thumbnail - for browser tab / bookmarks menu

Is it possible to create a thumbnail that will appear in a browser tab,
(like when you save a site to your bookmarks bar and it has a thumbnail - ie, facebook or youtube.) Can I do this in IWeb for my website, or do I consult Go Daddy (my website host) to find out about inserting a thumbnail, for when my site gets saved to a bookmarks bar or menu?
Currently, when I save my site address to my bookmarks bar in ie, I get the explorer thumbnail, with my site name. I would like to add my own thumbnail.

Showing Photos in Explorer

Info: I have Windows XP Pro, I am using LR Version 1.4.1.
My problem:
When exporting photos from LR after editing, the view in explorer differs from the view in LR. Color is not what I edited it to be. When opening the photo in windows picture viewer, it looks the same as the LR version. But when I upload photos to the web, let's say myspace(via their uploader), they come out looking like the thumbnail version in explorer. I checked gamma, but to no avail.
By the way, there is a noticible change in the explorer thumbnail after editing, so I know it is working.

If you indicated the sRGB color space when you exported, and you still see gross differences between Explorer and Lr, then Lr is somehow not compensating for your monitor's color space accurately. Indicate how your computer is being color managed and we'll try to help you with that.
Note however, "sRGB" is only a
de facto standard for monitors in general. It will not match your monitor's profile exactly, but it should come close.
Edit: You should also give us some indication of how the colors change (eg, do they desaturate when viewed on the web?)

Lr 3.4 - Thumbnail and preview problem

I have a problem... I use Windows 7 64bit SP1 and Lightroom 3.4 ( I've tried Lr 3.3, which looks exactly the same). Unfortunately, my Lightroom can't see or have any photos' preview ( jpg, raw).
I've tried preinstall Lightroom, Windows, Service Pack 1 and Graphic Card driver, but it doesn't work. I have no idea what I should to do, to solve that problem. What's more for Windows Explorer thumbnail works correctly
If you have any idea or solution... let me know.

If you switch to Develop module, can you see the image?
If so, it's a corrupted preview cache, and we can talk you through trashing it and rebuilding.
If not, it's most likely a corrupted monitor profile. Recalibrate your monitor or at least set it to sRGB temporarily. http://www.lightroomqueen.com/blog/2008/12/28/corrupted-monitor-profile/ Use the Vista instructions in that link for Windows 7.

PDF Portfolio Cover - how to change this in Acrobat Pro 9?

in Windows folders PDF Portfolio files are displayed as follows:
1. Using common PDF icons (bad, because we cannot distinguish PDF from PDF Portfolio), or
2. If the folder allows larger pictures, then we see the standards Porfolio cover showing a "book",
the note about the needed version and a download button.
Question: is there a way to replace the standard PDF Portfolio cover (and symbol) by an user defined one?
Such information like needed version and the download button aren't useful for people which
already use correct versions. Notes like these should only appear on computer which cannot
corretly display the respective files.
For a meningfull overview I would like to display own contents. Is this possible?

The thing you're looking at is called the Cover Sheet - it's the page that users will see if their software cannot support Portfolios (or on Windows Explorer thumbnails), and is NOT part of the Portfolio navigator. In fact, the Cover Sheet is the "parent" to the entire document, and is nothing more than a one-page PDF file.
To view the Cover Sheet in Acrobat, choose View -> Portfolio -> Cover Sheet
You cannot delete it (as it's the only page in your document!) but you can edit it. For example, you could create your own design, and use the page thumbnails right-click "replace page" tool to swap in your new page. Be careful about the web link though, it needs to stay there to help your non-Adobe recipients.
If you want to change every Cover Sheet on every Portfolio you make, replace the default "coversheet.pdf" file within the Acrobat install (there will be a series of them in subfolders, one for each installed language):
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\DocSettings\CombineFiles
We do it all the time to add company branding to Portfolios created in enterprise installs.

Image Processor Jpg Files Cause LR to Stop Working

Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 1.4.1
Vista Ultimate 64 / 8 Gig Ram / Lots of Hard Drive space on Scratch Drive
nVidia 8800 GTS w/640 MB Ram
Image files processed in Photoshop
Exported via: File > Scripts > Image Processor (IP)
IP settings are default except the jpg output is set to 12/max
From the same PSD file, no modifications in PS
One file will cause LR to crash ("A problem caused the program to stop working correctly) the next does not.
Both jpg files open and display without a problem in...
- Photoshop
- Adobe Camera Raw
- Microsoft Office Picture Viewer
- Apple Quicktime Picture Viewer
- Windows Explorer (thumbnails)
I have saved two otherwise identical files, one crashes LR every time, the other opens in LR fine, every time.
This has been occurring in about 3 out of every 100 files saved via IP.
The next time LR is opened it crashes again if the 'bad' file is not renamed or deleted due to the automatic file updating process.
Trying to import 100 files requires importing them one at a time when this happens because there is nothing to indicate which file cause LR to break during the batch import.
If Adobe Tech Support would like the two 'identical' files they can email me and I'll send them along.

Renaming and numbering files question

Currently I like to bring my image files (named by the camera as something like IMG_4896,IMG_4897,IMG_4898,etc.) into the LR catalog, move the files into a Photo Collection folder, and rename them based on the date taken along with a sequence suffix, e.g. 2007_08_20 -001, 2007_08_20 -002, 2007_08_20 -003, etc. I like this system because I can sort by name in Win Explorer thumbnail view (inside one folder) and can see at a glance when the photo was taken. I find specific subjects using the keywording feature in Bridge or Lightroom.This works fine when I bring images in one date at a time. But if I were to grab a bunch taken on different dates, the sequence number just keeps on going up. I'd like for it to reset to 001 with images taken on different dates. Any way to do that. Not an especially important feature as I am able to work around this, but It would allow me to just dump images into a watched folder and let it go.
Also, after editing a days group of pictures, there will be missing sequence numbers representing the images deleted. It would be great to just be able to move the images into a Finals folder where they would again get renamed, but with continuous sequence numbers that reset when the date prefix changes and no-one would ever know how many I deleted.
To clarify, what I'm after is a final group of files that go something like this:
2007_08_20 -001,
2007_08_20 -002,
2007_08_20 -003,
2007_08_21 -001,
2007_08_21 -002,
2007_08_25 -001
What I'm getting is this:

Not what you are looking for (not sure if what you are looking for IS possible with lightroom), but the approach I took was to incorporate not only the date, but time into the file name as well as append the image number to end. I also add my initials to beginning on image, which allows me to quicky identify if the file is a picture I took or collected from someone else.
I use the following for renaming: CMD {Date (YYYY)>>}-{Date (MM)>>}-{Date (DD)>>} {Hour>>}-{Minute>>}-{Second>>} ({Filename number suffix>>})
This gives me a file name of : CMD 2009-12-05 14-52-05 (5645).dng
Not what you wanted, but does give ability to not only see image by date, but by time of day too and keeps each unique with filename suffix.
