Explosion of spam on iCloud mail

I am getting enormous amounts of spam on my mac.com account during the last few weeks. Today at 6pm the total is 13 already. I have been able to set junk mail rules in icloud mail so that most of then are caught, but I do not understand why Apple is not taking action.
I have another (non-apple) acoount that is about 25 years old by now, with similar problems occurring many years ago. Mail of that kind never gets through. My provider has a spam filter that works.
The spam I am getting now has a few things in common. It is all from US companies, with addresses listed in their mails, and an unsubscribe link (which I refuse to use).  They use sender addresses like [email protected] (with arbitrary garbage before the @). A week ago I got lost of mails from similar companies from the address [email protected]
All of this is easy to filter out, but of course these criminals (the only correct way to decribe these people) will think of something else every week.
My main question: What can I do???
I have sent many of these mails to [email protected], but this seems to have no effect.
Why does Apple not use its massive legal department to go after these criminals? If they are "legitimate" companies, with addresses, they can be sued, right? Is there anything in US law that makes unsollicited advertisement with an unsubscribe like legitimate?

I am receiving at least 20-30 spam emails a day on my iCloud account from domains like that one.
Here are a few:
[email protected]
*@gil.com.au
*@esa.icsg-cloud.com
*@sdgveDt8.mac.com
*@createfreewebsite.org
*@gradehone.com
*@facteur.louisiana.edu
*@Wikipedia-K5P.org
I have turned off remote images loading and emailed spam@icloud every time I have received them, but to no avail.
It is getting ridiculous Apple does not have a usable email system with a good spam detection (like Gmail does). I'm going to have to stop using my Apple account because this is getting out of hand.

  • Spam ? icloud sorting out mails with specific url

    hi there,
after playing around with mails my wife didnt receive in icloud account i found that icloud is surpressing mails with http://www.bbh-basketball.de/ in body text.
That url is pointing to a website about basketball (german). No sex, no weapons , no whatever ....
Any idea why this happens ?
    Knut.

    Hello Kehring,
It sounds like you have a legitimate URL that you know is safe that is being filtered as Spam in iCloud Mail. Take a look at this information from the following article named:
iCloud: Identifying and filtering junk mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4899
    Troubleshooting false-positives
Due to the complexity of accurately detecting and filtering out junk mail, on rare occasions a legitimate email from a friendly source may be blocked from reaching your Inbox. This is called a false positive.
If you feel that a legitimate email message was inadvertently filtered, you may want to ask your friend to send a follow-up email to verify that the issue exists. If you notice that multiple email messages are being delayed, bounced, or not delivered, contact iCloud Support. Also make sure to check your Junk folder for email messages that were incorrectly marked as junk mail. To check your Junk folder at iCloud.com, choose the Mail application and click the Junk folder in the sidebar. Email messages in the Junk folder are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Where is "Spam" folder in iCloud Mail?

Is it possible to view the Spam email folder in the iCloud Mail? The Junk folder is there but not the Spam folder.
I messed up my OS and can't open the regular mail application on my Macbook Pro so I need to use the cloud version to get my email now but the Spam folder doesn't appear in the cloud mail.
    What's up with that?
    Thanks.

The "Junk" folder is the "spam" folder in iCloud email.

  • My ipad iCloud mail continually freezes ALL of my email when I get spam. How can I change that?

After the latest update, my ipad iCloud mail freezes when I get spam. It freezes all email. I have to go to PC, and erase the mail before I can use it again. So far I haven't found any settings on ipad or iCloud on the PC to limit what email I receive.
The spam messages cannot just be trashed from ipad.
There's got to be a way to stop the spam!
    Thanks, Kathyellen

  • Can anything be done to ensure/improve iCloud mail reliability in sending/receiving?

The tl;dr version of my question: is there anything I can do from an end-user perspective to improve the odds that my iCloud mail messages will be properly delivered to others, or incoming mail properly received by me? I like iCloud, but this is something I never worried about with Gmail, though I would prefer to stay with a single service for personal information management (i.e., iCloud) as opposed to going to Gmail or Outlook.com for mail/contacts/calendars.
    The slightly longer version:
I was formerly a Gmail user for many years. All of my hardware is Apple made, so iCloud makes sense, including for mail. I have multiple third-party email accounts forwarding to my @icloud.com address.
I have had intermittent reports of missing or delivered-to-spam messages which I sent from my @icloud.com address over the past couple months. Messages were sent from either the Mail.app on my MBP running Mavericks or from the native Mail app on iPhone. Software on both devices is always kept up to date. Messages appeared in my iCloud Mail sent folder without issue. No delivery delay/failure notifications were received by me for the messages which were reportedly not delivered.
The recipients in question had nothing to gain from lying and playing the "I never got the email" card. The destination addresses to which I was sending these messages were both institutional Exchange accounts (three delivered to spam, one not delivered at all) or Gmail accounts (one, with the recipient subsequently receiving my original message without issue when I forwarded it from my own separate Exchange account).
    Thanks in advance.

For the first part, that does beg the question whether this is something that is more of a problem with iCloud than it is other providers, for whatever reason.
I'm not a huge fan of anecdotal "evidence" in general, but iCloud mail does seem to have the worst reputation for missing messages when compared to Gmail or even Outlook.com, at least going by a quick search. For other iCloud mail users, does this ever concern you? Any former iCloud users who left for similar reasons?

  • How to turn off iCloud Mail in my online account

My icloud.com, me.com and mac.com addresses get loads of junk mail so I want to stop using iCloud Mail. I've turned it off on my iMac. my iPad and my iPhone, but can't see a way to turn it off online so that any mail sent to it just goes into a black hole or, preferably, gets bounced back to the sender of junk.
    With thanks

On the iCloud website, set up three Rules (click the cogwheel icon at top right and choose Rules) to move all messages addressed to [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] to the Trash. It will be deleted from there after 30 days.
You can't set up an automatic bounce, but in any case please, never bounce spam. Most spam has forged 'From' addresses so all you are doing is sending yet more spam to totally innocent people (who are probably already getting a lot of bounces because of this) and making a bad situation worse. Even if the 'From' address is genuine, I very much doubt any spammer is going to remove your address from a huge list  (they certainly would get a lot of bounces from actually dead addresses) - and in any case they can probably tell it's not a genuine bounce easily enough, so now you've just confirmed that your address works. Don't bounce it - just delete and forget.

  • I'm trying to verify my apple id but when i log into icloud to get the email it says 'the apple id has not been verifed.' So how do i verify my account if it wont let me log into to icloud mail?

I'm trying to verify my apple id but when i log into icloud to get the email it says 'the apple id has not been verifed.' So how do i verify my account if it wont let me log into to icloud mail? stressing me out please help me

You have to respond to the verification email that Apple should have sent to you by clicking the Verify Now link.  Make sure you check the email address you used to set up your iCloud account.  This would not normally be an @icloud.com email address.  Also make sure you check the spam/junk folder as well as the inbox.  If it isn't there, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right click Resend under your Primary Email Address to resend the verification email.

  • How do I add rules to a folder in iCloud mail service?

I have mail organized into an automatic spam filter in icloud mail that tosses it into a folder already. What I want to do is move some mail on a conditional rule statment like "If from: [email protected]" Move to "folder1" if mail from [email protected] is already in another folder like folder2. How do I do this?

You'll need to use a 3rd party image editor or Preview (its annotation feature):
Some Image Editors That Support layers:
    Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Imagerie - $38
    Acorn - $50
    Pixelmator - $60
    Seashore - Free
    GIMP for Mac - Free
    Xee 2.1 - free
Also watermarking apps can add text to your photo.  For a list of potential candidates go to MacUpdate.com and search from "watermark".
    Happy Holidays

  • ICloud mail not delivering mail from specific address

I'm having a recurring issue with iCloud mail. Email alerts from my home alarm company are being intercepted on Apple's server side, and are not being delivered to me. I called Apple Support more than a week ago to report this problem, and the representative added the email address to a "white list." This fixed the problem.... for about a week. Now iCloud is up to its old tricks, killing these emails before they get to me. Sounds like an overzealous junk mail algorithm on Apple's server side is mis-identifying this email address as a spam.
And the email is NOT being classified as junk by my computer. It never reaches my computer--it's not in any junk or trash folder on my side.

I use the term "Desktop" to indicate my iMac and my Macbook - the email is actually in my Mailbox on my Macbook. I move it from my Inbox to a folder on icloud. Then it syncs and the email is back in my Inbox.
Sorry my use of the word  "desktop" comes from 25 years managing Windows desktop computers.......

  • Still can't get to iCloud mail since 9/11 11amCST.  Help?

Can some one please give a realistic ETA and timezone when iCloud mail will be back up??
    <Edited By Host>

Only Apple can do that and they may not even know.

It's a really bad idea to post your email addresses - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove them.

  • Filters in iCloud Mail

how is it possible that my mail filters didn't catch this!?

There are multiple threads on this issue again in last 2-3 weeks.  Spammers are targeting Icloud from Europe and other times zones.   If Icloud has a spam filter, no it does not "learn".   I have stopped reporting spam to Icloud because it seems to make absolutely no difference.  I feel as if Apple does not really care about Icloud now that it is free (unlike Mobileme which was a paid service).   There was virtually no Spam on the Mobileme, which cost 100 dollars annually.  Icloud is free, so there is no incentive to have a working spam filter, I guess.

  • Mails forwarded from yahoo account automatically deleted by icloud mail.

Recently I have completely switched over to iCloud mail for sending and receiving all mails. There were two problems that I found. These are as follows:
    1. I am forwarding all the mails from my gmail, ymail and outlook.com account to iCloud.com account. But some of the messages don't reach (or probably are automatically deleted from) my iCloud mailbox. I have checked the junk email folder also. They are not there. Some of these emails like the promotional mails I have subscribed to and my Internet bill are not really spam. Still somehow they don't get into my iCloud mailbox despite my yahoo account forwarding them. Proof that the yahoo account is forwarding them is that all those emails were deleted from my yahoo account automatically after being forwarded.
Is there a way to correct this unwanted behavior of iCloud mail. I want all the mails to appear and then I'll decide what is junk and what should be deleted.
    2. The second problem is that if I disconnect my iPad from the wifi and then connect it again after some time, then the mails that I received in the mean time are not automatically pushed to my iPad from the server as soon as I connect my iPad to a wifi network. This didn't happen when I was using outlook.com account. I have to manually refresh the inbox now or wait for some new mail to arrive which will flush all the waiting mails in one go.
Please help me. The first problem particularly is very annoying, please help.

IMAP mail accounts have a remote view of the emails on the server.
You 'subscribe' to see the contents of server folders.
Only the headers are downloaded and when you select an email the folder is copied to a temp cache to facilitate quicker access to that folder.
These emails are not stored on your computer.
If you choose to 'synchronize' folders, then a copy of the folder is downloaded to your thunderbird Profile folder.
This means you can view those emails when in offline mode. These emails are on your computer, BUT as these folders are set to synchronize, it means that folder can get updated by the server, if emails are removed off the server and you synch, you will see all of those emails disappear from Thunderbird to synch and match the server.
So the best method is to synchronize the folder to get emails onto your computer, then go into 'offline' mode so that Thunderbird cannot connect with server.
Then move those emails into suitable folders in Local Folders.
The 'Local Folder' folders will be stored on your computer and will not be efected by the IMAP mail account even when you later select to remove it.
You can use this addon to create a backup of Local Folder folders and emails and also synchronised folders in offline mode.
    * https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html
Right click on folder in Local Folders (or a synchronized folder in offline mode)
    select 'Importexporttool'
then you have a selection of methods available.

how do I get my icloud mail on my desktop?

It's a bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove it.
Your signature says you are using 10.3.9 - is this correct? (If it isn't please amend it to prevent confusion).
Lion 10.7.2 is required for full iCloud functions. If you migrated using the 'email only' method you may be able to get your email on older systems with the old MobileMe settings. Failing that, you can set Mail up manually:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger
If you really are using Leopard try the Tiger instructions, but I don't know if they will work.

  • ICloud / Mail / cannot receive SOME emails

For the past few weeks, I haven't been able to receive SOME (but not all) of the messages that have been sent to my @me.com address.
    I do receive SOME messages.
When the same message is sent to both my @me.com address and another address at the same time, I receive the message on the latter, but not on the iCloud account.
The messages that are lost come from different mail services (so this is not just a problem with one email service provider).
The writers of the messages that do not come through receive no notification.
Theses messages do not appear in the spam folder either.
Any tips on why some of these messages are lost ?
Thank you very much in advance for your help !
PS / the lost messages do not appear on any of my apple devices (iCloud Mail, iPhone, MacBook)

Just to add further info: I check the Cloud Mail from a PC at work.
