Export 5.1 Surround sound and stereo workflow?

I have a 60 minute movie with the audio in 5.1 surround - using FCPX surround panner. The audio is in roles of dialog (interviews and voice-over), music, effects and camera ambience. Four roles total for four different types of audio.
I want to export four versions as follows:
(1) Quicktime mp4 (H.264) with surround sound
(2) Quicktime mp4 (H.264) with stereo version.
(3) DVD with surround sound.
(4) Master Prores version with surround sound intact.
Can anyone point me to a good workflow tutorial or any tips. One question is how my four types of audio are split into 5 channels when the FCPX panner uses many speakers for a certain role. Thanks.

I checked forums everywhere and there's plenty about editing 5.1 in FCPX but no one is clear on how to output this audio into quicktime!

  • 5.1 surround sound and removing grain

currently, i'm trying to remove video grain from adobe premiere pro cs4 without paying for plugins. i'm trying to use the remove grain effect found in after effects and then dynamically link it to premiere pro for exporting. However, on after effects, it seems to only export my video as stereo instead on 5.1 surround sound, and the video is a 5.1 surround sound. is there a way i can fix this? is there a way i can use the after effects plugin from within premiere pro? or is there another free alternative solution to remove grain in premiere pro.

Why bother with exporting the sound in the first place? Since you will replace the video in Premiere anyway with the original soundtrack available, what's the point? AE does not support anything beyond stereo, with or without plugins. I'm sure you can find a ton of plugins for Premiere dealing with noise/ grain removal, but if they are really good, they're certainly not free...

  • Does anyone know of a mini sterio with surround sound and optical input in Mac Mini form factor?

Does anyone know of a mini sterio with surround sound and optical input in Mac Mini form factor?
I use a Mini as the family media center and would like to have 5.1 or 7.1 sound for films but don't want a huge piece of eletronic equipment (I have one of those, but it isn't hooked up because it doesn't fit on the bookshelf). Years ago I used a PC and still use the Creative Audigy speaker system (Jimmy rigged to the Mini) that I ran from the PC. The Audigy PCI sound card obviously doesn't work on the Mini, so I just have two chanel plus sub. That has been fine since I switched to the Mini in 2007, but am updating to a new Mini in the summer and would like to upgrade my sound as well.
I also wouldn't be opposed to a USB soundcard that can drive the speakers. In fact, my wife would prefer smaller and less visible, ergo USB card hidden in the back.
    Suggestions?

Hello John, I figured it was a signal issue. All the speakers fire and the sound is great. I was running the speakers thru a Dell PC with a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, THX Certified, 7.1 soundcard using a fiber optic from the Mac Pro to the Z906's, it worked great until the Dell died!!! When I bought the soundcard from Creative I also bought the GigaWorks S750, THX Certified, 700 watt, 7.1 speaker system, used the speakers for 11 years and then the woofer/amp said "I QUIT" Creative quit making the speaker system and the sound card. The satellite speakers from the Creative GigaWorks speaker system still sound great (rated at 78 watt each) and are a little better speaker than the one's that came with the Z906 and the wattage from the 906 is sufficient to drive the satellites without any distortion. Thank you for addressing my issue, you confirmed what I suspected all along, just needed to hear it from someone with the same setup.
One last question, I purchased a Diamond Multimedia USB Soundcard, can't use the fiber optic(not supported by Mac) but the green, tan and black RCA's plug in and produces adequetly. When you plug your 906's into the Mac Pro using the fiber optic how do you set your speaker configuration? When I plug into the mac pro with fiber optic the 'Audio Midi Setup' does not seem to see the 5.1 configuration. Any thoughts there?

  • Surround Sound to Stereo

I just bought a cheaper sound bar for my apple tv. Movies and tv shows having stereo playback work great but anything that has surround sound playback does not. My question is how can i change all my movies in itunes to playback stereo and not surround sound?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.

  • Problems with HQ-2300D headphones. Lack of surround sound and other minor probs.

I've bought Creative HQ-2300D, and I am disappointed so far.
My first problem was instructions. I am not trying to insult anyone, but the booklet didn't instruct anything. It merely explained what the buttons did and what did the pictures mean (as if I can't recognize a notebook when I see one). The diagram did not include PCs, either.
Regardless, it wasn't useless as finally I've made the headphones & the decoder work. I was surprised that the cable connecting my machine and the decoder was short and thin. Very thin. Here's what I had in my bundle, aside from the decoder, headphones, and cheap Energizer AA batteries:
    http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0020qh6.jpg
"A" is used for connecting the headphones to video game consoles, I gathered, so I put it aside, since I needed to connect the headphones and decoder to my PC. I tried using "B", but couldn't fit the black thing anywhere. "C" worked. Did I get it right?
I tried music first. Horrid. Bass sounded blurred out and what closely followed could only be described as hands clapping with bass at zero. After messing around with settings, I've managed to reduce that effect to a minimum. Then I've tried watching a movie, and the sound quality was actually very good. Although I've been watching a DVD, I didn't notice surround sound.
Then I've tried games. Half-Life 2 and then Doom 3 with EAX patch. The sound quality is admirable, but I didn't notice surround sound. Is there anything I need to tweak? Also, there's faint noise after low sounds.
Are the headphones defected, or what?
EDIT: Forgot to mention my soundcard is X-Fi Platinum.

I'm really sorry for the double post, but after thoroughly reading the instructions again, I've managed to eliminate that faint static by pressing Dolby Pro Logic II and Dolby Headphones buttons simultaneously and holding them for 2 seconds.
But the surround sound is still absent. I thoroughly tested with the helicopter sound circling you, with both CMSS-3D on and off, I fired up Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 and tested if there's any difference between front and back, with both CMSS-3D on and off. I closed my eyes, and I couldn't tell where the sound was coming from.

  • Using ATV2/3 with non-HDMI Receiver and theater projector and also need iTunes downloaded movies to work.   I'm thinking to use the Toslink digital out for surround sound and an HDMI to RGB converter for video but not sure the iTunes DRM will prevent?

I have a theater with a Runco projector but non HDMI. alas, my receiver is non HDMI. Changing electronics and projector is a non-starter.
I would like to be able to buy HD movies on iTunes and watch them by streaming via Apple TV3. My plan is to capture surround sound from the TosLink digital out, which my preamp/receiver can handle. For the video, I need to convert the HDMI to RGB component to feed my receiver.
This is where iTunes DRM and HDCP issues might arise. I am under the impression that I need an non-HDMI compliant converter so that ATV3 can even talk to my receiver. It is my understanding that this is possible and takes care of the HDCP issue. But what about the DRM issue? All I want to do is buy and watch HD movies, no bad intentions. I find it incredible that iit might not be possible.
Anyways, is there a 100% certain approach even if it costs up to $300-400. Again, changing hardware is a non-starter so please avoid the obvious "buy an HDMI amp and projector".
    Thanks

  • My Skype used to have surround sound and now it do...

I was talking to my mate on skype when suddenly my computer switched off. When i turned it back on and called my mate on skype his voice wasn’t surround sound anymore.
I checked everything. Everything else is surround sound but only his voice isn’t, He has restarted skype and still nothing has changed. I’ve called the sound testing service and her voice is even surround sound. I’m really annoyed at this.

    Hi there
If you have a 2010 + MacBook Pro, then you will be able to play audio/video via the MiniDisplay Port to HDMI. You can purchase an adapter from here, or a 3rd party adapter from here.

  • How do i hook my ATV through my surround sound and then to my TV?

    Hi,
I have just bought a Samsung HT-Z120 to play music and video with my ATV through my TV. However i have a slight issue connecting everything together harmonously.
Currently i have 3 RCA components connecting the TV to the Samsung HT-Z120 (surrond sound system) and a HDMI cable connecting my ATV to my TV.
I need to connect the ATV directly to the surround sound but the connections i have left on my surrond sound and ATV are an optical output on the ATV and a audio out and video jack on my surround sound. I know this is a silly question as one is fibre optic and the other is analogue, but is there anyway to connect all this together?

    BPERRO wrote:
No unfrotunatley there is no HDMI output on the surround, neither is there an optical. All i have is 2 rca point and 3 rca component point. I bought it second hand thinking it was a good deal, however i now realise my mistake.
Im not sure im going to be able to make this work, unless there is a magic answer involving the two remaining audio jacks from the surround.
Thanks for both of your replies...
The Apple TV only supports HDMI and Optical Output. I took a look at your Samsung product specifications online and it is a bare bones unit. You will not be able to connect the Apple TV to your Samsung product.

  • I want to export a video file with 6 mono track for surround sound and the 7th track to be stereo.

I want to give my friend a video file, so when he imports it into avid, premiere, final cut etc. he would recieve 6 mono tracks (L,R,C,LE,Ls,Rs) and the last one to be stereo. but every time i export it comes as 7 mono tracks. and in the setting thats the only option

i think you would have to go with 8 mono tracks, 6 for the 5.1 mix and 2 more for the stereo. that or try to use 4 stereo pairs, but that would combine parts of the 6 mono (5.1 mix).

  • Setting up Apple TV with direct tv and surround sound from stereo

I am just setting up.  I don't have a audio cord that leaves my tv.  It is in seperate room.  Audio leaves dish box to audio.  Only getting sound on tv speakers, not surround speakers

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I assume you are saying you can't connect to iTunes regardless of how you set it up.
Do you have any internet services working on the Apple TV.

  • Surround Sound from stereo tracks

I was under the impression that you could mix Surround right on the FCP track in FCP 6. IF you can I dont see it.
    My files are Wav files
I have one stereo track for audio (two tracks).
    One stereo Music
    One stereo Effects
I want to put the narration on the center speaker and
the music on R L and also the rear R and Rear L
and the effects on the Front R and Front L.
Do I have to go into SoundTracks to do this or is there a way to do it in FCP6?

I was under the impression that you could mix Surround right on the FCP track in FCP 6. IF you can I dont see it.
    In your Sequence Settings, alter your audio preset to 5.1, you'll then get 6 outputs/busses - 1 stereo pair (for L & R) , 1 dual mono set (for C & LFE) and 1 stereo pair (for L & R Surround).
You can then 'mix' within FCP by sending the tracks in your timeline to the specific outputs. Though in your case, since you have pre-mixed elements, this might not work for you.
But, as Jerry says, you're best off with a dedicated 5.1 setup. Otherwise FCP automatically does a stereo downconvert for monitoring

  • I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?

I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?
I have a sony handicam and I imported the clips to iMovie and they lost quality and converted the audio to stereo. I want to import the project to final cut X and import the AVCHD in 1080p and surround sound and export the movie in bluray. Can I relink the clips without editing everything again?
    thanks!

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

  • ITunes and surround sound internet streams

    Hi all,
I'm looking to broadcast internet streams in surround sound and I want to select an audio codec which iTunes will play.
Does anyone know which surround audio codecs are supported for internet streaming?
    Best regards,
    Daren.

    Thanks for your reply Dave.
I had suspected that this was the case. I've been exprimenting with iTunes and haven't even been able to receive a stereo AAC stream. AAC and AAC+ only seem to be supported for files and not internet streams.
If anyone disagrees, please feel free to correct me.
Does anyone know if there are plans to support AAC and AAC+ in internet streams? ..and in particular for surround sound broadcasts?
    Best regards,
    Daren.

  • ITunes and 5.1 surround sound problem

The iTunes won't play my music in 5.1 surround sound. Now my PC is equiped with sound card capable of producing 5.1 surround sound and my windows media player is playing my music files in full surround sound. iTunes on the other hand won't do it for some reason.
All my sound and audio options in control panel are on 5.1 surround sound so i don't know what's going on with my iTunes...also all other programs play my audio and video files in full surround sound.
How do i get the iTunes to play my music in 5.1 surround sound?

If the files are just standard stereo MP3 files, iTunes is only going to play them to two speakers. Windows Media Player may do some kind of procesessing of the stereo signal to simulate surround sound and play to 5.1 speakers, but iTunes does not do that.
iTunes will play true DTS 5.1 channel audio files under certain conditions, but those are special files, not just standard MP3s.
