  • Exporting Email From Thunderbird

When I made the full time transition from Windows to Linux, I selected Thunderbird as my email again, and imported all my Outlook Express mailboxes (and I have a lot of them) into Thunderbird. Thunderbird is a good mail agent, but I am getting worried about being locked into one mail agent again, much as I was with Windows.
Are there any programs out there that can EXPORT email from Thunderbird into some neutral format like HTML or XML or some such?
Ultimately, I would like to start using Sylpheed, but I can't see any way to get my email from Thunderbird to Sylpheed.
    Any ideas anyone?

The beauty of this method is that you do it all from the client itself.  You would launch thunderbird as you normally do and set up a second account.  That second account should be an IMAP server.  Which IMAP server you use and where it is located is up to you.  If you have an ISP that provides IMAP mail that would be easiest otherwise you could set up your own somewhere.
(on a side note, since I am not an IMAP expert I would recommend downloading a trial version of Communigate Pro from stalker.com since it will install and work quickly for your purposes)
Once you have both accounts active and working in the client just drag the emails from the folder on one account to a folder on the other.  Thunderbird will automatically transfer the mails to the other server for you.
I should also point out that this isn't a thunderbird specific feature -- even outlook express will do this.
    Good luck!

  • Export AddressBook card data to Thumbdrive

I occasionally need to update my iBook's AddressBook cards from my iMac (main computer, where I collect addresses).
How can I export/copy current cards to a thumbdrive, to then copy onto (offsite) iBook?
I do not want to copy the complete AB app every time I want to transfer the data.
    Thanks,
    PP

Thanks for the tip, but I am confused: when I select "All" in the "Group" column, one card is always highlighted, no matter what I do. It does not allow me to cannot de-select to a no card default.
In the "File" pull-down, under "Export", only type of "Export" shows up: "Export vCard".
I assume, selecting and exporting then only moves the one card that is highlighted/selected, not all?
Please clarify: Do I just ignore the highlighted/selected card in "all'?
    Thanks,
    PP

  • I have no option to export address book - Thunderbird 24.5.0 Win*

I wish to export my email addresses to create a back-up.
Running Thunderbird 24.5.0 under Win 8.
There is no Export button showing although there is an Import button.
Otherwise how can I back up my email addresses?
    Thanks for helping

You need to reinstate the toolbar and menu '''in the Address Book'''. You may also wish to restore these features in the Write window and the message view window.

  • How can I export emails from Thunderbird so that I can send the bulk file to my attorney?

I have about 100 email threads that need to be given to my attorney in both electronic form and hard copy. Obviously, hard copy is no problem. But how can I give him an electronic copy of the emails? It seems to me if I just copy the archive, he won't be able to access them.

In view of Matt's comments, and having confirmed that Outlook 2010 is also able to read .eml files, then I'd suggest that this add-on:

I am trying to export email from THunderbird to Mac Mail - all seems to go well but only 1 email is imported in Mac Mail. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated

You might have more luck creating a Gmail account, uploading all your mail there, and then using IMAP access.
Then you have easy access to your email from any device, and Gmail integrates really nicely with all your IOS devices as well.
Just remember to set Gmail up as an Exchange Account"

  • Unable to import Mac address book into Thunderbird

I have Address Book on my Mac and am trying to import it into Thunderbird. I have gone to Tools>Import>address books>text file. But when I try to choose Address Book in applications, it is not highlighted , so it is not an option to choose.
I have also tried to export it into Thunderbird: In Address Book file>export>Export group vCard and again, when I go to choose Address Book in applications, it is not highlighted so it is not an option to choose.
I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. Help please.

Close your Thunderbird completely and reopen it, still doesn't work
To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • Clipboard and Mozilla Thunderbird

I can't create a Transrerable object, using text/html, that Thunderbird composer can read. If I copy somethng from the Thunderbird composer, run the following lines
    Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
    Clipboard cb = tk.getSystemClipboard();
    cb.setContents(cb.getContents(null), null);
and tries to past it back in the composer, nothing happens. (Paste whithout formatting, however, works). It's no problem to paste to Word, Excell och Outlook.

For a while I was using Entourage but decided to move
to Mozilla Thunderbird and it's been ok but now I
want to move all my email address's and all the
folders where I store email back to Entourage.
Someone was kind enough to inform me on how to get
them from Entourage to T'Bird but now the question is
how to get them back as I had deleted them in
Entourage once I had them in T-Bird and over time
more have been created. Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.
Also, if Entourage won't automatically import the messages, there is probably an Export option on Thunderbird. I am afraid a Microsoft forum might not be much help and you may have to start with a Thunderbird forum first.

  • Moving from thunderbird to [suggestion?]

OK; so I'm finally having beagle up and running, but it doesn't index my emails since there's no support for thunderbird (at least yet). Does anyone feel like suggesting an email client, (and perhaps how a moveover is done bestly ) ?
    Cheers!

I can't seem to leave my Thunderbird.  ;-)  With all of the Extensions, I can have it do just about anything I want.
I've been running a couple others kinda in parallel to see if I can move away from TB at some point.  I tried Sylpheed and Sylpheed-Claws but seem to prefer Evolution or Kmail as the alternative.
My main reason for testing other options besides TB has been palm integration.  I keep hopeing that Mozilla will get SunBird developed a little better and integrate Palm in it at some point.
My wife likes Kmail/Kontact.  She used ThunderBird for quite a while and then tried Evolution, but she's finally settled on Kmail.
As to the best way to migrate to a different client:  I just export everything from ThunderBird and then import into the others.

  • Address book self-deletes contacts

Big problem: Lion´s Addressbook deletes my newly added contacts within minutes. This happened to my three or four times now. Newly added or modified contacts dissapear. They are not even in my Time-Machine-Backup though I´ve forced that app to write a backup immediatly after editing the contacts.
Yesterday I´ve switched to iOS5 and iCloud. Same here: Contacts vanish in every place (Mac, iPhone, iCloud) only minutes later. Have found 2 of them in Time-Machine but can´t bring them back (nothing happens when I hit restore). My fault was to believe that an exported Addressbook-archive would contain the data – but after moving all contacts to iCloud, that archive is completely empty!
Any suggestions? Have tried Onyx to maintain different operations, but no luck.
    Thanks, Speedy

It's Apple's viral marketing at work, and you're the (un)lucky one chosen to spread the word!
Have you tried disabling the sync in Entourage for a while, and deleting the extraneous entries in its address book? If while the sync is disabled you're not getting replicating entries in Entourage but still doing so in Address Book, you've at least knocked out one half of the equation.
I'm afraid I don't know enough about the inner workings of the Address Book database and sync services to offer much assistance if self-replicating entries still persist. Short of exporting your Address Book a file and erasing all entries and/or reinstalling Address Book, I don't have any other ideas.
Any one else have any ideas?

  • How do I import contacts from my other iMac to my new one?

I already have one iMac and just bought another one for our family. I don't know how to import my contacts from the first one so that I can have my contacts on the new one as well.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Open AddressBook on the older computer. Go to File > Export > AddressBook Archive.... Then move the file the new iMac and in AddressBook choose File > Import > AddressBook Archive.... This will overwrite the connects on the destination iMac, it doesn't 'sync' the contacts. If you have .mac the contacts can be synced.

  • Address Book Issues

I just this week finally upgraded from 10.4.11 Tiger to the latest Snow Leopard through the Mac Box Set. I had some minor issues with a few things, but my biggest problems were with my contacts in Address Book.
After the installation, I looked at my contacts in Snow Leopard and only 40 of 225 had migrated over to the new system! Fortunately, I had, of course, backed up my main drive as it existed under Tiger just prior to the system upgrade, so I restarted with drive 2, opened Address Book, exported my contacts file to drive 1, restarted again with drive 1, and imported the exported vCards file into Address Book in Snow Leopard. This seemed to work well enough, as all of my 225 contacts were back.
But then I decided I didn't like the picture I had attached to one of my contacts and decided to replace it with a newer one. I tried every approach I could think of but I could NOT get rid of the old picture. I deleted the old one several different ways and chose the new picture to replace it and then save the entry, but no matter what I did, if I went to another contact and back to this one, or stayed on this contact, closed Address Book and reopened it, every time I returned to the contact with the picture the old one was back. Argghhh! One of the things I thought was interesting is that every time I clicked to choose a new picture, the "new" one was there and I could "set" it, but it would not stay set when the contact was reopened. Finally, I had to resort to deleting that card and re-entering the information from scratch with the new picture, and that worked.
I suppose I'll never know why only 40 of 225 contacts migrated over when I went directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Some would probably say that's what I get for waiting, and maybe they're right, but does anyone know whether imported vCards are typically less editable than entries that are entered by hand?

Thanks for responding Herbert. I have not tried that. I'll be on-site on Thursday and give it a try.
