Export Alpha in a "Transparent" HD Project

I understand how to export normal fills and mattes separately in SD.
Is there a trick to exporting in HD?
I have a moving lens flare and I want a travel matte.
Right now, the matte snaps on as a solid white screen.
I want to keep this separate to be able to submit to iStock.

In After Effects, we use a product called Xmult. It samples a layer and creates a perfect alpha channel for it. It's the trick for using lens flares. I see no analog in Motion but you should be able to fake it by using channels. You want to shift all of the luma information to the alpha so you can crete a lovely matte.
Umm, no idea if this helps and can't check it. I'm not at my Motion machine for the next week.

  • Exporting Alpha Transparency for a PC from motion5...?

I am trying to export alpha transparency for a lower third I've done in Motion5.
I know that proress422(proxy) can be used , but this does not import well into my PC (premiere pro).
Is there anyway of creating alpha transparency from m5 so that my PC will happily recognise it ?
    thanks,

If you're using Alpha for *anything* -- you must use ProRes 4444 (if Premiere will accept it.) It is the only ProRes that supports transparency and the only export option in Motion 5 that supports transparency. (Older versions of Motion could export with the "Animation" codec which also supported transparency.)
If Premiere (on the PC) doesn't handle ProRes 4444, then
You can export just the alpha channel from Motion and use a "Track Matte Key" in Premiere (as I *understand* it -- I've never used premiere.)
On export, go under the Render options panel and set Color: to Alpha (default is Color + Alpha).
It's basically a B&W movie of the alpha data -- the "layer" is used as a luminance map in the travel matte key. I actually don't think it matters what codec you use for export -- it's not really transparency -- black is transparent and white is opaque.

  • Why can I no longer export alpha channels in the new FCPX update (10.0.6)?

While the new update is rich with new goodies- I am having some issues doing some things.  My main concern is the inability to export alpha channels in the 10.0.6 updated version of FCPX.
I followed the following steps, same as before the update.
I used the Keying effect to remove the greenscreen and did some cleanup using the "sample color" refining tool.
I cropped and resized the clip so that the actor is the correct size for my clip.
Now it looks great in FCPX, except that I now need to put that footage into Motion 5 and do some motion tracking and match move.
I export the keyed clip as Apple Pro Res 4444
Now when I import that file into Motion 5 everything that is supposed to be transparant is black!
Is there an additional setting in the new version that I need to fix in order to export alphas?  Is there a new way to do it?
I am operating Mountain Lion, OSX Version 10.8.2 with a 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor.
Thank you so much!  This is a key element in almost all the projects I do and now I am stuck!

You got me curious so had to test and validate some of the above, forgive me if I go a little OT in the process.
Have you set your background to checkerboard, I find psycologically this makes a difference, though in exporting it does not...
screen grab below, from 422 timeline, showing original, exported 444 and then imported file comp'd in and scaled down for differentiation in FCPX, note that the project render parameter is actually set to 422 NOT 444 as fox_m suggested, it still works.
This one below shows the above scenario exported 444, with background set to black in pref's, note the overlap showing transparency, again in FCPX. This is purely to illustrate that the checkerboard and black backgrounds are not relevant, only that the 444 on export is relevant.
Hopefully this illustrates that cropping and 444 exports are working.

  • Exporting Alphas

So I'm doing various effects on several layers of animation in Premiere Pro CS3...I've got a bunch of characters with shadows and reflections at their feet but I want to then export the characters and composite them over a background so so that I can do some fancy multiplaining backgrounds...only problem is I can't seem to preserve my transparencies...it exports a black background behind it.  I can't just make a green screen and chroma key it either because my shadows and reflections are semi transparent.  There must be a way to export from premiere and preserve the transparency/alpha...is it a setting that I need to consider or is it just dependant on which file type I choose.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Craig,
AFAIK - there is no way to export alpha in PPRO (except  flv Flash)
"You can't teach an old dog to bark", but let me try...
In CS3 (I don't have CS4) you can for example:
    1. Export Movie (CS3 still can), select a format/codec with alpha support, for example QT animation or uncompressed Video for Windows, and make sure to select the "Million + colors"
    2. Export AME, and there do the same as 1. but QT (except for FLV) seems to be the best alternative.
Anyway, Hunt sort of said it, so credit to him.
you would just need to choose Million + Colors
    To Hunt:
I got the best one. But, you know, since you weren't there, you'll never know

EDIT: Slow typing (me), but just saw that mentalcase (hopefully less than me) found the solution on his own, I'm happy for that.

Can there be any external hard disks - if so How is/are it/they formatted ? Must be Mac OS Extended (hfs) if used for Video.
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most but not for VIDEO.
What this means in Your situation is above me.
    • free space on internal boot hard disk? How much ?
    Video codec
    • streamingDV, AIC etc. (not .avi, .mp4, .m4v, .wmv etc as they are containers not codecs)
    Pictures
    • in what format ? .jpg, .bmp, .tif, else ?
    Audio
    • from where/what format ? iTunes, .avi, .mp3, .aiff, else ?
    The "com.apple.iMovie.plist" file
Many users has not observed that there are TWO libraries.
    • Library - at root level
    • Library - in user/account folder - THIS IS THE ONE to look into

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

You need more free space on your hard drive.

After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....
Where do Your material come from
    • Camera
    • External hard disk
    • USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?

  • I can not export my Final Cut Pro X Project

    Hi everyone
I am seeking help big time!
I have completed my FCP project on FCPX, but I can not export.
When I click on "export project" it does nothing and when I send to compressor or trying to export by using compressor settings or trying to export to media browsers ot apple devices, it says " failed" even before starting to export
All my files at my project are rendered alredy.
    I have re-installed FCPX
I have purchased latest version of compressor (4.1)
BTW I am on Mavericxs 10.9.1
    What might be the problem?
    Any help is much appreciated
Thank you in advance for the help
    Regards
    Yusuf

I have this same issue also, on my MacBook Pro. When I click 'export project' nothing comes up at all.
It's very frustrating and I have tried everything also:
    All files rendered
    Re-installed FCPX
The only change i've made since it has started happening was upgrading to Mavericks OS X 10.9.1. So it has to be something to do with that.
I was wondering and hoping if you have since solved the problem, and can help me with a solution to amend it.
If anyone else can help it will be much appreciated, and most thankful.

  • How can I export a file with transparent background?

    Hi all,
I know InDesign doesn't allow to export a PNG file, but I need my file to be in image file format with transparent background.
I'm still learning so I am stuck here. How can I export a file with transparent background?

If you can't get the PNG file export to work, you can export a pdf and open it in Photoshop, from there you can save it as whatever you like.

  • How do I export an image as transparent in CS4?

I just upgraded from CS to CS4; in CS, to export a photo as transparent (EPS) was super easy, there was such an option in the Help menu and was done with just a few click of buttons. In CS4 this option is gone and I can't figure out how to do this operation. Does anyone have a clue?
    Thanks ahead.
    A.

Is there anyone who can give a clear answer on how to easily create a clipping mask (with clipping path) around an object (item isolated from a photo using QuickMask mode in PS). Basically, i had a photo of a laptop and using quickmask I extracted it from all other elements in the photo leaving just the laptop with an apparently transparent area around it. I had also done this with an image of a person. I used to use the export as transparency wizard in CS2 to automatically make the clipping path around the object to help avoid issues with potential postscript printers.
I am getting alot of great assistance and I am grateful for those taking their time out to help, but I am not getting a clear direction on how to accomplish this one task in CS4 PS which appears to be simple and also confusing for others as there are alot of people on the forums trying to figure the same info out.
I understand InDesign may be better than AI for this layout work and importing this image there may solve all my problems, but for the sake of needing to find this solution for a task that was once possible and seems so simple, if someone can help by defining the new procedure, it would be appreciated. It would also put an end to the quantity of posts on the same subject.

  • Media Encoder export a different font from the project file

    HI
Media Encoder export a different font from the project file when I use a installed font
The problem doesn't occur when exporting directly from Premiere
    Any ides why?
    Thanks

Hi! This also happened to me quite a few times with different fonts. Your fix worked, thank you. I don't think it's the font since, like I said, it happened with a few fonts, but just in case I was using Mf Young & Beautiful in TTF format.
Are there any side effects to turning off "import sequences natively"?

  • Help export the graphic with transparent background and not braking the quality

hi I'd like some help please if its possible.
I've created a monitor graphic in Fireworks that looks like iMac and I would like to export it with transparent background.
the jpeg format looks great with no damage to the graphic at all but I can't have transparent background, although I changed the canvas fill to none. the png-8 format can apply transparent background, but damages the graphic.
    Here are the previews
    1st - the png-8 format
    2nd - thejpeg format
A ny ideas on how I can export the graphic with transparent background and not braking the quality??

  • Export to png with transparancy

    hey, can this be done?
export to png with transparent background
even setting the background of the slide to "none" doesn't work
if you can't achieve this, does anyone have any ideas how I could do a workaround?
    cheers, D

Ahh, I read this and thought you required the export. You essentially want to take an image from Keynote into some other application WITH transparency, correct? If so, you may want to take a look at Skitch.
http://www.plasq.com/skitch -currently in public beta as a free download
You could copy the items as you're currently doing, then open Skitch and paste them in. Your objects will appear with a white background. Next, click the color well at the bottom of the colors on the right hand side in order to bring up the color palette. Change the opacity to Zero, then hold down Shift, while clicking in the color well. The background is dropped out and you have full transparency. You can even use Skitch to resize the image to exactly the size you want it to be. Click and drag the tab and to export at that size.

    I have a 5minute video in iMovie'11.
I need to export in the highest quality for projection in a cinema theatre.
Please advise as to best setting to accomplish this.

If it looks good on your tv it will look good at the cinema.
The resolution will still be 720x480/576 if a dvd player is hooked up to the projector.

  • Export and re-import in to project keeping background transparent.

    Hi guys...
I have had some joy and some no so joy... maybe I am doing something wrong..
I have been using a smoke emmitter and "flattened" this and re-imported back into project to save ram or to duplicate the layer (for more smoke) and also again save ram. But sometimes the new import has a transparent background layer sometimes it is black. (Always I set all the other layers to not viewable) I have tried using keying to get rid of the black. But possibly there is a setting to keep any export/import back into project background transparent, if in a group above the bottom one. I am using QT animation setting for exports. DVC PRO HD 1080p
    Thanks.
Cheers for all this great help... invaluable for neubie..

Set your background to transparent (press apple+J to open the window you need) as it may currently be set to "solid" and render the movie out using Animation, as this preset will support transparency. That should do it.

  • Exporting alpha channel problem

i have simple file, no footage; just illustrator artwork. the only way i can see the alpha channel in motion is to have the project background (set in the project prefs) set to 0% opacity (i'm using white). when i do this, i can see that there is transparency using the pulldowns in the upper right. the problem is when i export a frame as a png still...the color looks like it is being premultiplied with black, as it's really off in the transparent areas. but i'm in a catch 22: the only way to get the color right is to set the background opacity of them project to 100% - and that negates the alpha channel.
can't i premultiple with white, as in ater effects?
    what's up?
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Heya,
Just change the alpha interpretation for the footage. Select the image and press Shift+F to shortcut to the Media tab settings. Change the alpha type to Premultiplied - White, or whatever you want.

  • Trouble exporting Alpha on PC

    Hi there,
I have some CGI shots that were delivered to me in Quicktime Animation with Alpha that I need to edit and return to the client in a similar format (with transparency).
Premiere CC views the clips with Alpha just fine. As soon as I try to export the clip to a format that I know supports Alpha (such as Quicktime Animation or DNxHD 185bit 4:4:4) the client says that "there is no alpha channel" in the footage, it is lost. As if the video exported not in RGBA but in YUV.
After a few failed attempts at this, I just moved the project to my Macbook and rendered the media there in both Prores 444 and Quicktime Animation, both of which had maintained the transparency just fine.
My question is - what am I doing wrong? I can't seem to get Alpha out exporting anything on Windows, while doing exactly the same in OS X seems to work just fine.

    Hi,
Still on CS6 here, but QuickTime Animation with Alpha export works fine. Just be sure to select "32 bit" under the VIDEO tab in AME, default is 24 bit. And before delivering to client, simply Import the clip you made back into Premiere and toss it on the timeline over any other media to check for alpha.
    Thanks
