Export as a Catalog (Multiple folders)

Hello everybody
Now it seems to be the time to divide my huge catalog in two (or three maybe).
But here I faced a problem: How to export several folders, that are in different parent folders?
LR "Export as catalog" command only seems to export one folder
(parent or child), but I can't choose several folders, that are in different parent folders fo example. I would only do a new Catalog for some of my pictures, the picture files would stay on their old location. Is there a way?

Export as Catalog exports either all or the selected pictures that you have filtered in the filmstrip/grid, regardless of their folders.
> How to export several folders, that are in different parent folders?
1. Ctrl-click on each folder you want to exports as catalog.
2. Choose Export as Catalog.
3. Uncheck 'export negatives', uncheck 'selected only'.
Now you'll get a new catalog that references your photos at their old locations. The photos may be from any folder in your original folder hierarchy.
> "Export as catalog" command only seems to export one folder
That's if you invoke that command via right-clicking in the folder list. Use the menu, or Alt-click the export button instead.
> I would only do a new Catalog for some of my pictures, the picture files would stay on their old location.
They will, if you uncheck the 'export negatives' option. Otherwise Lightroom will export negatives in subfolders of your new catalog and reference those newly created files instead of the old original files.
EDIT: And, yes, why divide? How many pics you have in your catalog?

  • Can I export multiple folders at the same time, keeping the album structure

I'm exporting all of my photos from 2010 so far. Is there a way to export multiple folders at the same time, while keeping the existing album structure? It seems that when I try it, iPhoto exports them all to the same folder.
I really don't want to do this one album at a time, and here's why -
I'd like to select all of the albums, then export, using the plugin, to WalMart so that I can order prints.

    Check out [iPhotoToDisk|http://www.iphototodisk.com/index.html]
I'd like to select all of the albums, then export, using the plugin, to WalMart so that I can order prints.
Why not upload to Walmart from iPhoto? Check out the first option here:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Export Keeping Multiple Folders Intact

I read one work around for this involving creating a temp collection, etc. Is there an easier way?
I would like to export multiple folders keeping the folder structure intact. Tell me there's an easy way to do this.

This plug-in from Tim Armes should do what you ask http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1822 522

  • Export multiple folders while keeping folder structure

I want to export multiple folders at one time.  I select the folders in LR and then all the photos in those folders.  When I look at the exported photos they're all lumped together (and the keywords are gone, if I do one folder at a time the keywords remain)
Any way to keep the folder structure while exporting multiple folders?

  • Indesign Export to Multiple Folders?

    Hello All-
This is my first post and I hope I've found the right place....I've been digging and can't find an answer to my questions.
I'm wondering if there is anyway, after a datamerge, to export the individual images/records (as jpgs) to specific (multiple) folders?
I'm working on high volume youth sports (football) photos and want to create Memory Mates (composite image w/ players name, number, etc) in bulk.
I have a directory structure like this...
    c:\...\Kid1\Image1.jpg,Image2.jpg
    c:\...\Kid2\Image1.jpg,Image2.jpg
    c:\...\Kid3\Image1.jpg,Image2.jpg
And a properly formated csv that reflects this directory, w/ full files paths for each image....so the data merge works great.  The problem is, once the data merge is complete, I need a way to export each record, as a jpg, back to the directory that the images came from.  So the final directory would look like this...
    c:\...\Kid1\Image1.jpg,Image2.jpg,Kid1MemoryMate.jpg
    c:\...\Kid2\Image1.jpg,Image2.jpg,Kid2MemoryMate.jpg
    c:\...\Kid3\Image1.jpg,Image2.jpg,Kid3MemoryMate.jpg
good Lord I hope this make sense.
Any help would be greatly apperiacated!

    Might be scriptable...

  • Problem upgrading windows 3.6 catalog (freshly exported) to LR4 catalog on Mac

I've recently moved from LR3.6 on Windows to LR4.1 on Mac, creating a new catalog in the process.
Now I wish to access my original catalog on the Mac so I first did a full "export to catalog" on the Windows PC (to first consolidate multiple folder locations into a single top-level folder) to an NTFS volume on a USB disk.
Mac obviously read-only on NTFS (in basic config) so I then copied the catalog from the USB to a newly prepared Mac disk. (I'm sure I read somewhere recently that you should do something permissions-wise on a newly prepared disk but can't for the life of me find it now).
I then tried opening the copy of the exported LR3.6 catalog from the new Mac disk & immediately get prompted to upgrade it to LR4.x so click OK.
A few seconds later I get a failure with an error complaining the catalog is corrupted & forwarding me to an LR1.x support page.
As I only have USB2.0 on the PC the export takes hours (280Gb) as does the copy from the USB 2.0 disk to the new Mac disk (via Thunderbolt).
Is there something I can do to "fix" this supposed corruption?
I haven't (yet) tried re-opening the USB-version of the catalog on the PC as it isn't fired up ATM but I have no reason to suspect genuine corruption.
    Any suggestions appreciated!
    Paul

Yep, don't bother to export as catalog.
Look at the catalog on the Windows machine and make sure the folders are shown as a hierarchy (http://www.lightroomqueen.com/blog/2008/12/17/i-have-a-long-list-of-folders-can-i-change-i t-to-show-the-folder-hierarchy/) and set them up that way if they're not.
Then copy your existing catalog over, without needing to export and without needing to copy the files again.

  • Schedule a Webi report to multiple folders in BOXIR2 InfoView

    Hi All Expert,
I might need your kind advice on what is the alternative way to do the below in BOXIR2 InfoView.
In my InfoView, i have several sub-folders under one folder. For eg, i have one "Sales" folder which contained multiple sub-folders as "SG", "CHI", "MYS", "JPN" and etc. I have one webi report created which have a country name prompt in the report and exported to each different sub-folders which the report prompt have been selected for each country name before export to the sub-folder. Eg, "SG" sub-folder have a webi report with "Singapore" as country name in the folder. All of the sub-folder's report are using the same webi report design.
My problem now is i need to open each of the webi report in the sub-folder to everytime when i need to perform a schedule or perform changes on the report design. If i have 12 sub-folders, i need to open 12 times to perform changes one by one or schedule the report to run one by one.
Are there any other alternative way to schedule one time then BO will copy the relavant report or instance to the multiple folder?
    Appreciated your kind advice.
    Regards,
    Chee Koon

    Hi
a publication object allows you to schedule X webi reports (which reside in several subfolders in your system) at once.
If you want to first to create/overwrite copies of your report in X subfolders and then schedule them all at once then you have to go with the SDK (even in BO XI 3.x)
You can find more information about the SDK here: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/sdklibrary

  • Search multiple folders and muiltiple files and combine to single file

I want to search multiple folders for muliple files and combine to single file name. The files I'm searching have same format, but where named
differently in each of there processes. Now I want to combine based upon -SearchFor .. I'm having a problem with -Filter $SearchFor
    Code:
    Function Search-Files{
    Param([String[]]$Locations,[String[]]$SearchFor, $AppendTo)
    Begin
    If(-Not (Test-Path $AppendTo)){New-Item $AppendTo -ItemType File -Force}
    Process
    ForEach($Location in $Locations)
    $Files = Get-ChildItem -Path $Location -Filter $SearchFor -Recurse
    ForEach($File in $Files)
    Get-Content -Path $FIles.FullName | Out-File $AppendTo -Append
    End{}
    Search-Files -Locations "\\servera\public\t1\usa\saleshist\","\\serverb\public\t2\usa\saleshist\",-SearchFor "dodetail-cm.txt","somstr.txt",-AppendTo "\\virt1\Saleshist_data_load_files\saleshdr.load.csv"

I think you might want to use -Include instead of -Filter.  Your -Include parameter accepts wildcards, i.e. *.docx or *somstr.txt
Your command to actually append the content should be:
    Get-Content -Path $File.FullName | Out-File $AppendTo -Append
You had $Files.FullName which might behave unexpectedly, if at all.
Your actual command has several issues.
    Search-Files -Locations "\\servera\public\t1\usa\saleshist\","\\serverb\public\t2\usa\saleshist\" -SearchFor "dodetail-cm.txt","somstr.txt" -AppendTo "\\virt1\Saleshist_data_load_files\saleshdr.load.csv"
You had commas following the lists of locations and searchfor terms, did that even work? Without seeing your source files or your target file I can only advise you so much, but ideally you would import-csv and export-csv.  Depending on the contents,
you may be able to get away with get-content and out-file though.
I hope this post has helped!

  • Selecting Multiple Folders in PSE 9 (W7 64bit)

I previously had PSE 6, running on XP SP3.  I could select multiple folders and filtering typically included all of my pictures in all directories, not just for the current folder.  Now, I can't select but a single folder and when I search, I can only see the results for the folder I select: a single one.  Is this a "new" feature of PSE 9 or am I missing something?

Yes, Folder Location view now mirrors the OS.
Use thumbnail view to search the whole catalog. Use the time line slider in folder view (Ctrl+L) to scroll down all your managed folders.

  • Select Multiple Folders for Keywording

I'm trying to select multiple folders in the catalog simultaneously in order to add the same Keywords to all of the photos in all of the selected folders without having to do it folder by folder. But although the folders are shown as selected in Navigator, nothing shows up in the main view, and the Keywords section is grayed out. Is there any way of doing this?

Hm... Lightroom remembers filter setting individually for each folder and even for group of folders. So, even if you can see pictures in one folder and see pictures in the other folder, it could be that a combination of both has a filter applied.
    Try unchecking
    i Enable Filters
from the Library menu while you have multiple folders selected.

  • Why does "export as a catalog" crash when following directions?

These are my steps: I select a set of folders, then all the photos, then "export as a catalog", choosing to export "smart Previews", and not "export negative files".  The process starts off fine with a flash window saying so, followed by the upper left progress bars tooting along. Unfortunately, after a while the screen says Lightroom has crashed. I restart Lightroom and then immediately close Lightroom with an integrity check and catalog optimization each time and get no warnings about problems. Have followed the procedure four times, with identical results, twice after a complete reboot. In short, "export as a catalog' fails catastrophically, not politely.
My computer setup: LR 5.7, Windows 8.1 x64, 32GB of memory, latest Intel chip, OS on SSD, saving (trying to export to) to large, on same SATA controller, mechanical drive. Hoping to eventually save to USB 3 drive. Windows Resource Monitor shows "free" memory at all points in the process. Have second SSD for camera Raw cache fwiw.
Lightroom status: LR catalog has ~110,000 photos. Successfully created "Smart Previews" for all photos before trying the Export as a Catalog process. About 20% of the 110,000 photos are from Nikon D800 and are RAW/DNG, thus large. The size of the "negative files" is about 1.8TB. The size of the Smart previews catalog is 109GB.
Other, probably related problems: When I select (control A) the 110,000 photos, LR becomes very sluggish. Click selecting the menu has erratic and delayed selection. Eventually, I am able to select the menu items and initiate the "export as a catalog." Otherwise, everything operates "normally."
My concern is that it appears that Lightroom cannot handle 110,000 photos, but I am hoping that some other explanation might exist.
    Bill Bane

    Rikk,
The basis if my question is this: Adobe touted "Smart Previews" as a super new means by which one could edit/rate/keyword photos without needing the hardware associated with handleing the "negatives files".
My goal is to export my photos (smart previews) and let my wife rate and keyword the photos on her own computer. The Smart Previews version of my 1800 photos database (which is over 1800GB) is only 109GB. This can easily be handled with a USB 3 drive (and perhaps even a SSD one!).
Each time I "export to catalog" to gain this (advertised) functionality, Lightroom crashes. If you or someone else has done an "export as a catalog" of a total database, with a photo database this large, then perhaps I should suspect my setup. Or, perhaps there is some other explination?

  • Keyword tag search across multiple folders?

In using windows XP aand Photoshop Elements 9.  My photos are located in multiple folders and sub folders.  I can tag photos in various folders, but when I use a tag to search for photos, i only get results for whatever folder is open in Organizer.  I cannot get it to return photos in more than one folder.  All the folders are "managed" and all are subfolders within the "Catalog."  What am I not doing or not understanding?

oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!  I thought I was going crazy!

  • Losing collections when I export/import as catalog???

I have 174k photos in my LR3 catalog and am finally getting to the point where I'm seeing serious slowdowns. For the past month or so I've been backing up and optimizing my catalog VERY regularly -- which helps at least temporarily -- but it's time for a better solution. I shoot a lot of road races (5k, half marathons, etc.) and I'd like to be able to archive old race photos to a separate catalog and then periodically move additional batches of photos there. After bouncing this off the folks at lightroomforums.net, here's what I ended up doing:
    1. Backup and optimize main catalog.
    2. Select photos from old races, making sure to have all filters turned off, so as to be able to grab ALL relevant photos with certainty.
    3. "Export as Catalog..." and specify a name ("OldRaces") and location. I'm checking the first box ("Export selected photos only") in the dialog and leaving the other two unchecked, because I don't want to do anything with the photos/negatives themselves.
In the future, I'll want to be able to move more races from the Main catalog to the OldRaces catalog be exporting/importing as catalog, but for now I have a more pressing concern. When I followed the steps above, my Collection Sets appear in the OldRaces catalog I just created, but they don't contain any of the Collections they're supposed to, and therefore no photos. Here are a couple of screen captures to illustrate, looking at part of the photos from 2008...
    The original "Main" catalog: http://grab.by/7ObA
Same thing in the new "OldRaces" catalog: http://grab.by/7Oby
Note that ALL photos from 2008 have been exported/imported as catalog, following the steps above, and should show up in their respective Collections. On the advice of LightroomQueen, I've since made a couple of changes, all to no avail:
    - Using the 08DD Set as my test case, I removed "08DD-" from the name of each of the 3 Collections, so that the first few digits DON'T match the name of the Set.
    - Same thing at the next level, renamed the "08" Set to "2008" so the name of a Set didn't match the first two characters of it's child Set.
    - Updated from LR 3.2 to LR 3.3 (on a mac, btw).
After each of these changes, I've exported/imported as catalog. Sorry to say none of this did any good. The "2008" Set is nowhere to be found; the "08DD" Set now sits at the top level of my collections, alongside "08" and "09" and it contains no photos.
LightroomQueen also suggested right-clicking on a Set and choosing Export as Catalog, but that's not an option for me. I can do it with Collections (same miserable results) but not with Collection Sets. Similarly, I don't see this option when selecting multiple Collections and right-clicking.
From everything I've read, I'm doing precisely what I should do for the results I need, but something's clearly not working properly. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Update...
After updating to 3.3 and renaming all of my collections and collection sets so there are no instances of parents/children sharing the first few characters of their names, I started over. In the Main catalog, I selected all 25000 photos I've tagged with the keyword "archived" and exported them as a catalog named OldRaces. Perfect. OldRaces has two top-level collection sets: 2008 and 2009. Each of those sets contains several appropriate sets corresponding to specific races. Each race set contains the appropriate collections, and those collections contain the photos they should. Done, right? Nope.
I next switched back to the Main catalog to continue where I left off with the 2009 races. I selected another 6000-ish photos from the next couple of races and exported them to a new catalog called "Temp." I then switched to the OldRaces catalog and imported as catalog from Temp. I now have around 31000 photos in OldRaces, but none of them remember that they belong in collections.
Those 6000 photos represented three races, each in its own collection set under the umbrella of the 2009 set. After importing them to OldRaces, those three sets are at the top level of collections rather than falling under 2009. Not a big deal as I can move them easily enough, but the real problem is that those three sets are empty. Each set should contain several collections which hold the photos from that race, but they contain nothing at all.
Next step, I relaunched LR with the Temp set I had used as an export/import middle ground. (As an aside, why in the world do I even need to do this? Why doesn't LR's Export as Catalog command have the capability to designate a target catalog so I can export directly from Main to Old Races? It seems unnecessarily complicated to have to export to a temporary catalog only to turn around and re-import into the desired catalog. Another question for another day, I guess.) In the Temp catalog, the 2009 collection set is conspicuously absent but the three race-specific sets are there. More importantly, each contains the collections -- and, in turn, the photos -- that they should. So it looks as though exporting from the Main catalog is relatively glitch-free. The missing 2009 set bothers me but doesn't cause any real problem that I can see. The problem seems to be importing from the Temp catalog to the OldRaces catalog. Given that the 2009 set didn't survive the export to Temp, I can't expect it to miraculously reappear in OldRaces. So the import to OldRaces gives me the sets it should but not the contents (collections filled with photos) of those sets.
Does this shed any more light on the issue for the gurus out there?
    Thanks!

  • Shortcut to close multiple folders in List View

In the Finder, in list view, I have multiple folders open (using the triangle by the Folder name). I'd like to be able to close all the open folders at once. I know that holding Option while clicking the red Close button on a window will close multiple windows and I want to do something similar with the folders.
I'm sure I knew how to do this once but can't remember now.
    Thanks,
